The usual stores have very similar frames with very similar profiles for much wider faces. Occoquan Optical has a completely different feel than the stereotypical eyeglass shop. Rachel has created a calm, airy and bright environment with individually curated hand-selected frames. It's clear that Rachel has considered multiple types of customers- the range of styles, shapes and sizes is incredible! I went to the shop three times- to browse glasses, to pick a second style and purchase both, and then to pick up my glasses after the lenses were done. Each visit was as enjoyable as the first! Rachel is personable, attentive and warm. Conversation flowed easily and she loved on my baby during my first visit. She also put up with my indecisiveness! Not only did I pull off at least 30 frames from the walls, but she even started a poll on Facebook when I was unsure which pair fit my face best! By the end of the appointment, Rachel understood my style enough to select a second pair of glasses off the wall- which I ended up purchasing! Really disappointed in the quality of service here. It was my first eye exam here, and also did a…read morecontacts lens fitting, where they informed me it would be extra for having astigmatism. No problem, things usually cost more when you have extra problems. They told me my preferred Lens was going to be discontinued after end of 2022, so my order would be the last and then I would need to switch to another brand. I ended up also getting some samples of a different brand to try. I was promised 2 weeks for my contacts to arrive. 2 weeks passed, no contacts, i call and explain what's going on, they call the supplier, call me back, say another two weeks but they're working on it. Repeat this for another three months or so. I understand delays but the fact that I have to 1) call them EVERY single time to ask where they are rather than be informed proactively that they are delayed again and 2) explain my story every single time I call, I assumed eye doctors would also use patient notes, is ridiculous. Then, I tried the samples, unfortunately, they didn't work for me and never settled on my eye or were sized incorrectly (blurry no matter how much eye drops). I called about 6 months after my eye exam to see if I could try another brand. They told me I would have to come back in and get resized and pay another $100+. I ended up going to another provider where I walked out the door only payed $20 for a new exam, under $50 for the lens fitting, and no extra charge for astigmatism. AND they gave me two different samples to try from the beginning, followed up how they were feeling etc. Th difference in level of care at Steer Optical and my new vision center is night and day. Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

We then went into Lens Crafters and as I was waiting for my wife, I noticed we were given the prescriptions for glases/contracts and the credit card receipt for the payment made but not an invoice for breakdown of the charges. I went back into Steer Optical examination office to request an invoice, and the receptionist stated that they needed to refund for the Optomap retinal exam, which my wife did not receive. My issue is why did I have to request an invoice for the refund to be recognized by the receptionist who accepted the credit card? The total should have been $49 for the contact lens fitting for my wife, but we were each charged $49.

She gave me space as I walked around and looked at the different work bags, but she was absolutely available and happy to answer any questions I had. I had come to the mall for a Tumi bag, and dangit I was going to get one. As soon as I came back Afia greeted me again - and she remembered me. Granted it had only been 5-10 minutes but still, that meant a lot. I picked up the bag I couldn't get off my mind, and took it to the register. To my surprise it was an extra 25% off (it was on the clearance table but I wasn't sure if the clearance signs applied to the orange stickers or if the orange stickers were representative of the final discounted price - it's a lawyer thing to think that way lol). Anyway, she was so helpful, let me know I could monogram the bag for free at any Tumi store (not outlet one though), and also highly recommended the bag I was purchasing. I was in the store wearing faded leggings, dirty sneakers, sweaty as heck from just having hiked 4 miles - and the whole time I felt welcomed and not once judged. So, whoever manages that store - know that you have a wonderful employee there. She's a gem!! Fantastic customer service aside, this was a very clean, easy to navigate store. Turns out, soft cases were surprising my preferred choice! I had lots of questions and she answered them all in great detail and was pleasant throughout the experience. I did shop around at the other two luggage stores in Potomac Mills, but the experience here was hands down the best. I have a really young face and I wasn't exactly dressed to impress that day, so I was actually brushed off as a non-serious buyer in the other locations. I'm actually used to this and was kinda expecting it when I went into Tumi. However, they actually had an associate go out of their way and make sure all of my questions were taken care of. At no point did I feel like I was being pressured to buy something - it was just an overall great experience!
