I had a disappointing experience at Visionworks. Upon arrival, I provided my name and insurance details. After confirming my insurance, the receptionist told me I had coverage up to $150. During the initial process, I requested contact lenses and also wanted my lens prescription. I was offered an additional test for $35, which I declined. After my exam, I was directed to a different associate for payment. This is where the issues began. She told me I owed $80 for my appointment and $199 for a 6-month supply of contacts. I was shocked to hear that contacts were not covered under my insurance, nor was just getting the prescription itself. When I explained that the first associate had told me I was covered, she clarified that the coverage was only for glasses and frames, not contacts. At no point during the process was I informed of this, and I feel that such important information should have been communicated upfront, just like they mentioned the optional machine fee. The associate apologized and acknowledged that it should have been explained earlier but insisted that I would need to pay $80 if I wanted to leave with my prescription. This is the second time I've had a bad experience with Visionworks, and I will no longer be using their services. read more

What an amazing experience. My husband and I went to America's Best and the optometrist could not get my prescription right, after going back several times. He point blank did not care. So I called Vision Works with hope that we could get our prescription right. The optometrist at Vision Works at the Owings Mills location, was patient, very thorough, knowledgeable and explained everything to us. I am so pleased! This is a great location to visit if you have anxieties about wearing glasses or if you have eye concerns. The staff here is ALWAYS super friendly and helpful. Every time I have come in I have gotten the best customer service. This past visit the manager gave me suggestions on glasses I had not thought of, even explanations of why one style lens worked better for me over another. When I picked glasses that she didn't think looked super on me, she actually gave me her honest opinion! She was also super great at checking for me whether my husband's insurance or mine had the best benefit. The highlight was when I had a bit of a coughing fit because there was a tickle in my throat and she brought me a bottle of water. I'm so happy that my husband's insurance is accepted here bc I truly wouldn't want to have to change eye care places! read more

I should have read the reviews before coming here. My first appointment seemed to go fine, but when I left and couldn't see very well in the new contacts, I was alarmed. When I called them back and came in to see what was wrong with the new prescription, they told me the doctor gave me the wrong contacts when I left and I was wearing the wrong contact prescription for over a week. I had to be examined again, got the correct contacts, but had to come back a third time to be checked again. The third time I came in, I waited almost an hour to see the doctor and no one there understood why I was there again. I asked to simply take my contact prescription with me to order elsewhere, but told me they couldn't release it until I saw the doctor again. After waiting and finally seeing the doctor (she stepped out to get Starbucks), I was given a prescription and thought I was done with the place. Nope, when I got home, I realized they gave me a spectacle prescription and not the contacts prescription. When I called today and asked that they email me the correct prescription, they told me they could only fax it. That they don't have internet? Biggest waste of time and worse yet, I'm now a little worried that the prescription they finalized is even correct. read more

This is my very first rodeo with being prescribed eyeglasses so I have no other vision store to compare this one to, but the customer service here was pretty good. Being a novice I had NO IDEA how pricey prescription eye glasses could be, but I digress. The staff was pleasant and were operating according to the newly established protocols, you had to have an appointment and they were staggered. They took our temperature, asked us the very familiar standard "have you been sick" line of questioning. After passing that test, you were given gloves and tray that they disinfected. We were asked to place any glasses that we tried on on the tray as oppose to placing them back on the wall so that they could sanitize them prior putting them back. They had a pretty decent variety (wall-to-wall) of frames. Dina was my Sales Rep and she pulled up my coverage and broke down all of the cost involved and needless to say I was...let's use the word...UNAWARE...lol. So because it was my very first time and I believe in price comparison shopping, I decided not to purchase right away but to shop around. If I find that the prices for eye ware are pretty consistent across store brands then we will definitely be back. Outside of the sticker shock, the visit went pretty well and they presented a very professional atmosphere. Staff was very accommodating. read more

Extremely rude and slow customer service. Took their sweet time talking to each other and running around the store, instead of helping the overload of customers. Multiple phones are always ringing and almost never picked up. I don't mind waiting, however, the workers did not seem to know what they were doing and wasted a lot of people's time. Very poor customer service! Someone left a message on my phone to let me know that my son's new eyeglasses were ready for pick up. So we went to their shop, waited for our turn till somebody acknowledged us and tried to help. This lady got my son's eyeglasses give it to him and left and attended to other task and totally ignored us after. Did not even bother to check if the new eyeglasses fits well. Then I tried to get her attention and she signals us that we were done and we are okay to leave. I have to ask for a case, since it's a new one then when I ask for a cloth she told us we need to purchase it! Seriously! Maybe we also need to purchase her time so she can at least check if the eyeglasses we got fits well. So I scheduled my appointment online and within the next day received a call for insurance information. I was a bit worried based off of other reviews, but I had a great experience! The lady who checked me in was super friendly and explained the process well. The optometrist who saw me was friendly and the actual vision check was quite easy! The standout was Gloria who helped me pick out my frames and lenses! She was a doll! She helped me look through all the frames and was so patient! I probably tried on about ten or so different frames. She also made several suggestions based on the style of my current frames. I ended up going with a pair that she suggested! Gloria also helped break down what my insurance would cover and showed me the prices for all the different options. She made what normally seems like a stressful experience an easy fun one! Also covid procedures were good and I felt safe (temperature checks, masks, and wiping down of equipment). Overall, I would definitely recommend this Visionworks location . read more

3/27/14 HELLO!!!! I know you see me!! I arrive for my 5:00 PM apt early! No one in the store (2 employees in the front at the time) acknowledge or speak to me. A few minutes later another woman walks in late for her 4:30 appt and the older woman speaks to her and starts processing her! GREAT, this is how this is gonna go!?! A few seconds later a lovely younger woman with fiery red hair (HOT) come out front and ask have I been helped. I say no and she immediately starts on me. Gives me the forms to fill out and leads me to the waiting area. Once I fill that all out I bring it back out and then she tell me to wait. I go back to the waiting room which is nice, clean, and quite. Moments later she comes back to give me solution and an eye case to take out my contacts. Then she does some eye testing stuff out there before I am called into Dr. Levy room. She was a very pleasant and informative doc. Answered all my questions and filled out my forms for my insurance claims for reimbursement. My eyes haven't changed much so didn't need to purchase anything different or needed new glasses at the time. So I am taking back out to the front desk where the lady who didn't acknowledge me takes care of the billing and payment. She had a difficult time entering my updated info in the system so of course this takes a lot longer. FINALLY she wraps things up and I finally get out the door. Definitely will be purchasing my glasses from somewhere else, but the convenience of this place to where I live is the ONLY plus right not. I just picked up my 2 pairs of glasses from this Visionworks location and the customer service was excellent from start to finish! From the moment i walked in everyone was extremely nice and helpful. The eye exam was quick and the associate who helped me pick out my frames was great and very charming . The guy who rang me up along with a newer girl who was training were so kind and helpful and we even had a few laughs. Excellent customer service. I bought my glasses here a year ago. This was my second time going to a VisionWorks, but my first at this location. The shopping experience was just what I wanted. No pushy salesperson. I let them know I'd find them when I needed them and they were cool with that. The frames are nice. Same style as boutiques in the area, a little lower quality (which is why it's not 5 stars), but READ On! When my glasses got damaged (broken nose guard, slightly crooked lens from falling asleep with them on) I stopped by and they replaced both nose guard with new ones, checked the lens, and thoroughly cleaned the glasses. I was nervous because I hadn't asked how much this would cost, but when the very friendly salesperson handed my glasses back to me she said "Have a great day!" That was it - excellent service at zero cost is just about unbeatable. read more

Glasses and contacts are affordable if your on a budget. Staff should be trained on customer service, although polite the customer care is subpar. Purchased contact lens, staffer came out with two boxes and handed them to me. I had to ask for bag and complimentary starter kit (small bottle of solution and storage case). Staffer appeared as if she did not want me to have one or it was too much trouble. Could be a great place to shop if staffers were a bit more hospitable and customer friendly. After a long day at work, I hurried to my appointment at Vision Works. As I walk through the door, I received a warm greeting by a number of the staff. When there seemed to be a problem with my insurance, one of the staff seemed determine to locate my information and she did. Dr. Shao Hsiao was very entertaining. Once my exam was over, Kiana worked patiently and pleasantly to help choose a pair of frames for me. I was upset because the doctor did not tell me I needed glasses. I started stressing over the idea of wearing glasses but she assured me that wearing glasses was not the end of the world. So unprofessional. I had to make four trips back following the retrieval of my incorrectly written prescription. They do not have one set optometrist but rather those on a rotating basis. This shows there is no commitment to customers. Don't waste your time. And when I informed them my prescription was written incorrectly I am then asked, "but how do you know?" They number they wrote up I have not worn in over 7 years. Much work to be done here. I feel sorry for those who have been given the wrong prescription. Keep looking! read more

This was my first time visiting the store. I went to get a contact lens exam. I called at about 12:30pm asking for an appointment and luckily, they had one available for 1:30pm the same day. I rushed down to my appointment and was greeted. My paperwork was ready and I waited for about 5 minutes before I was taken back. Staff was very social and friendly. The doctor was very nice as well and quick. She listened and joked around. The recommended that I get classes too and recommended a current promotion. Had the first appointment of the day and the front doors weren't even unlocked, despite it being opening time. In my appointment, the optometrist seemed frazzled and couldn't get the equipment to work for a while. At the end of the appointment, I pointed out that the optometrist hadn't dilated my eyes yet, though I'd clearly stated I wanted that done on the intake form. She responded that she didn't have time and if I wanted that done, I'd have to come back for another appointment... She assured me I wouldn't be charged for the second appointment, but that's not the point. Another appointment? I used vision works on Reistertown, a few months back. Needed new prescriptions for me and my daughter. We both are covered by the military insurance Tricare Prime. I found them on the Tricare site listed as a provider. I used them once last year for just my daughter and had no real issues. This year was another story, while the actual optometry appointment for us both went well, once I presented my daughter's ID with her sponsor's(my ex) member ID I was told that they would not be able to accept the benefit number and would require her sponser's ssn# which I dont have access too. So instead of the $30 I budgeted I ended up spending $80. During this I even called up a Tricare representative to verify that the benefitiary number was valid,who was then told it didnt matter because the visions works computer system was not updated and would accept the ID number, but would not process later, and they couldnt be troubled to have to bill me(or "track me down") if this occurred. SO basically because their system is not in compliance I was inconvenienced and a little embarrassed and had to pay out of pocket to receive my daughter's prescription. I feel like if their computer system is not up to date they should not be advertising that they are a Tricare Provider. Plus, while I understand she was doing her job the person who handled this transaction, was not customer friendly, if this is such a problem with the system I as the customer should not have been penalized. I did not buy our contacts or glasses from them and will be going somewhere else when our next prescriptions are needed. read more

I picked up his glasses, & decided to schedule an appt. for myself another day at 1:30 p.m. As a pregnant woman, unfortunately I fell really sick prior to my appt. I called the office at 1:36 p.m. & was told the doctor would not see me b/c she decided to go to lunch instead. I was literally about to park my car. After they asked the doctor to still see me, she said no. Never will go back to this location. A complete waste of time. read more

Just about a month ago I took my prescription to Visionworks. This was the first time that I had been back in over ten years because of the problem that occurred the last time that I tried to purchase eyeglasses with this company. Ten years ago my glasses ended up getting re-made twice before the prescription was correct. This time I am out of four hundred dollars and still a month later do not have my glasses. I was advised my glasses were in for the second time only to find the prescription was still not correct. I called again and was advised the glasses would be ready on Friday of course that did not happen. Once again I have not received a phone call. I received the glasses from the Reisterstown, MD location. Is this how customers should be treated. read more
