Stay away. I needed a quick prescription update and decided to support a local shop. Everyone was nice when I went in. I didn't need glasses but since my insurance covered the glasses they convinced me to get something so I made a choice on the frames. When I went back to pick up the frames the young lady put a cleaning cloth in the case with the glasses and handed them to me and said have a good day. Wait ....... wait right there!!!! Every, I mean Every time I have ever bought glasses the optician ALWAYS puts the frames on my face and makes sure they fit and asks me to read something just to make sure I can see properly. Not this time. I took the glasses out of the case and put them on and the sight was completely opaque. I told her I can't see ANYTHING. She said you have to be in front of your computer. Ridiculous. I knew there was no sense in talking to her so I took the glasses and my prescription to another optical store and they looked at the prescription of the new glasses and told me not only was the prescription off but it was completely wrong!! Its my second time to come here, first was my own appointment and next I went with my friend. Dr. Davis, Liz and Kasey were wonderful. I love the vibes in that optical clinic, welcoming and warm. Families come in and out while I was waiting for my friend. Everybody was served and happy. But there was a guy, who came in so rude and shouted because he cannot wait for a minute. I saw how he changed the atmosphere of the whole room because he called police and security because he feels discriminated, Woe, he wanted white glove service I think. Terrible customer service! One of the ladies did not even acknowledge us when we entered the shop and it wasn't even busy. Didn't even bother to say hello or ask if we needed help. Then another lady came, tried to help for a few minutes and then as soon as we turned around she was on her phone and couldn't hear us calling her because she had her headphones on. Don't go here... Awful awful awful! Where to start? Awful experience feel traumatized & screwed over! Searching for an eyeglass place in the hood and came across this spot. I met the doctor who insisted to change my prescriptions based on his opinion, of an astigmatism in my left eye. After receiving the new glasses, I kept returning I explained they are falling off my face -left eye feels pressure- they simply said " get used to it". Glasses still blurry. After a few times going back finally they agreed to redo the exam ( no charge) with another new doctor. Turns out the prescription was off! They agreed to do the fix - and charge me another $75 -For their redo. They rushed me out before actually really checking the glasses. But when I got home the new glasses are blurry. Called asked for owner. Was told manager in tomorrow-called next day. Manager gets on phone a presides to yell at me saying the owner got your message. I said when can I hear from them? Or I can call back. (48 hours which is standard business practice) Which set her off. Screaming you can call as many times as you wish saying I was harassing them. Then hung up on me --- Abhorrent behavior from someone who claims to be a manager. Called insurance they NEVER put it through first time. VW claiming it's not covered. #1 I am covered for exams and 2 pair of glasses. #2 I am covered for any redos, I should not have been charged the $75. Nor for the 1st exam. I went to Vision World looking for a new pair of glasses after having my Cazels for 10 years. They were friendly and the doctor (Optometrist) seemed to know what he was doing when checking my vision and measurements. When I came to pick up my glasses, the lenses were not the right prescription because everything was blurry, which led me to believe that it was either the doctor that is incompetent or the lens manufacturer, either way, this should not happen for a pair of glasses that cost over $800.00. The receipt they give you after charging you says nonrefundable rather than telling you beforehand. I intend to sue them in small claims court where I'll provide evidence that this has happened to many of their clients. NEXT, I receive a credit card statement, not s bill from Vision World. I could not use my insurance, I could not use my Flex Card. No wonder their always empty. I am not picky with medical service but my experience here really was subpar, so I respectfully am giving a warning to anyone lucky enough to stumble across the Yelp reviews before associating with this business. I had an eye exam scheduled and while I was waiting, already I got a bad feeling overhearing all of the sales pitches going on in the background. They were trying to sell people $600-700 glasses which is absolutely ridiculous even with add-ons. No pair of glasses should cost the same as a new iPhone. Now comes my eye exam which was super brief and the doctor was kind of off-putting. The room for the exam was a tiny room in the back with no space to walk or sit comfortably so that added on to the unsettling feeling. The instruments were not wiped down and I felt gross, especially during this pandemic, to put my forehead and chin on the placements. I saw grime and dirt from previous patients still on the surface. Furthermore, I thought I would be getting a complete eye exam with eye pressure checked and dilation and all of the other procedures that usually come with an exam. The exam however, took all of 5 minutes and the doctor sounded impatient and belittling at some points, probably because I am a young patient (the first thing he asked when I walked in was how old I was) so he thought it would be fine to talk to me like a child. I don't even know if my eyes are healthy. So he writes a prescription with some changes, and honestly, I don't trust it so I didn't bother getting a copy of it and definitely didn't bother purchasing anything from their selection. This is an unprofessional establishment which is sad because I recently moved to this neighborhood and thought it was good to find an optometrist so close. I will be taking my eye exams back in Brooklyn again, even if it means that I'll have to take it during my breaks in classes. read more

I went in 06/06/20 to fix a rubber piece from the nose area on my glasses I had made there. I am a patient there I was willing to paid she said $10.00 I would have to leave them because of CV-19. Did not know what she meant she said she didn't have a technician. I told her the young lady there sitting down fixed them for me the last time I was here. She repeated herself about CV-19. I went across the street to Metro Optics they fixed the rubber piece and they even adjusted the fames I had on in seconds. I was so grateful I asked how much she said nothing. I went back to Vision World and asked for my prescription I will never go there again. They just lost a client that spent over $500.00 there and was going to make another fame but I won't go back even the doctor who saw me there was unprofessional I should have listened to my intuition. Never again when your in need that's when you see people respond... So funny, as I went to write a 5 star review, I noticed a few 1 star ratings and I just had to read them: I couldn't help but laugh. The customer who complained of a foul odor and hot facility in the middle of summer, clearly is unaware of what New York is like during the summer; I'm confident the AC was addressed at some point that day. Then, the other reviews speak to insurance, costs and the up-sale; something else I am intimately familiar with as I am employed as a medical biller. It is the patient's responsibility to understand their coverage and ask questions if they don't. As far as the up-sell, that is apart of business and they have the option to say no. Now, as for my personal experience, it has always been stellar. My five year old daughter and I both wear glasses and we have been filling our prescriptions here for two years. My most recent encounter was this past September when my daughter lost her glasses. The insurance they sold me during their "up-sell" spiel actually saved me $400.00. Additionally, Jennifer was amazing and was kind enough to ask if she wanted to have her eyes rechecked before they filled the prescription, which was just a little over a year old. She did not have to do that but took the time to do so anyway; we were not charged for the exam. I could be here all day with highlights on the service they provide, but honestly, it is not about the service they provide but the level of expectations some patient's have. I am an informed patient with realistic expectations; perhaps this was not the case with the previous reviews. read more

So I haven't updated my lenses prescription or got a new frame in at least five years. So reluctantly I went in to see if I can get an eye exam and maybe see if there was a frame I was interested in. I have to say, the staff there were all incredibly kind and helpful. They were all willing to answer any questions I have and even went as far as to help me pick a payment plan that's perfect for me. The optometrist surprised me. I was expecting a cranky old doctor who thought he was better then you but I couldn't be anymore wrong. ***CUSTOMERS BEWARE*** As other reviewers have commented, it is a very shady establishment. They lie to your face about your benefits and try to push overpriced merchandise. I went on 11/10/2019 and was greeted by a woman behind the counter. She took my Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield card and explained my benefits. After my eye exam, she said my insurance doesn't cover eye contacts. They charged me $125. She also tried selling me contacts: 4 boxes for $450. She was really pushing it on me. I felt uncomfortable and paid the $125 and got a script so I could purchase contacts elsewhere. I checked 1800contacts and found my contacts and I paid $600 minus $100 with mail-in rebate for 8 boxes. She tried tricking me into giving her more money and taking my mail-in rebate for herself! Furthermore, she didn't write me the correct script! 1800contacts said she gave me a eye glasses script. Luckily, I explained what happened to 1800contacts and they said they would work directly with the MD and send me my contacts. I felt like I was tricked so I called my insurance later that day and they explained I should have paid $75 and the location is in-network. When I went back a few days later for a refund, they said we did it outside your insurance. I asked why would you do that and she said because I explained that's what we were going to do. An absolute lie and it makes no sense why they wouldn't use my insurance. Why take my health insurance card if your not going to use it? When I show her my benefits printout she said they are out-of-network. Another lie! She just kept lying and it was apparent I wasn't getting my money back. So I left and decided to write this as a warning to whomever is shopping for glasses. DO NOT SHOP HERE! They will lie to your face about your benefits and try to bully you into paying more than you should. read more

This is my first and very last time doing business with this place. I went here for my annual eye exam and was greatly disappointed. To start things off, there is a horrible odor thoughout the establishment. It also was a very hot day 7/27/26 as NYC was in the middle of a heat wave and the air conditioner was not working correctly. The doctor does not spend enough time making sure that you are getting the best eye glass presciption. The exam lasted a total of five minutes. I am still not sure that I have the correct prescription. The worst part of this experience was after the exam. The employees who work here are extremely rude and unprofessional. They tried to rush me along when I was selecting a pair of glasses and then refused to give me a paper copy of my prescription. I had to call my insurance and have a representative speak to the doctor and tell him that it is against the law to withold a patients prescription; and that if they did not release my prescription to me that they would be fined. Needless to say after that they were happy to oblige. I will never recommend this place to anyone. read more

I wanted to like this place considering its close location to me and its accepting my insurance but I had a really uncomfortable experience with the staff there. The optemetrist, for all of the three minutes I saw him, was fine but the staff had me feeling belittled and disrespected. I just think if someone is paying for a service you should respect their needs, also a thorough acknowledging of what the law is regarding giving prescription requests would be wise too. I wish I could give this place a negative star! I would not recommend this place to anyone. Stay far away!! We had a terrible experience. We went here because they participate in our vision plan. We walked in a couple of Saturdays ago to get glasses for our 2 daughters. We wanted the glasses with nothing extra only with what the plan covered. Of course they did the old upsell where they try to get you to get things like shatterproof coating and other things. When we insisted we didn't want it she said we had to sign and she just flips over the invoice and has us sign a blank page. So we go to pick up the glasses today on a Saturday. The kids get their glasses. We notice the place empty and ask if my husband and I can be seen by the optometrist so we can get glasses as well. The girl then tells me that they don't see patients with our plan on Saturdays, that we'd have to be seen during the week 9-5pm and 5 is the latest! (This place is open 10-7 weekdays btw) I tell her I can't come I'm working. I walk out disgusted I'm thinking "What I've never heard of such a thing. We were just discriminated against!" We decide to visit Davis Vision down the street, and come to find out that some of the things they said weren't included are actually covered by our plan! So it would seem, besides horrible customer service, that they're charging people for covered services! read more

I was very nervous at the beginning, but unknowingly he made me feel very comfortable. In addition to an eye exam I purchased 2 complete pair of glasses! Betsy, the sales woman was very friendly and helped me decide which glasses suited me the best. It took me a long time to decide, but she didn't rush me, she was very patient and told me to take as much time as I needed. All of the sales women were very friendly and eager to please. If I could give a zero, then I would opt for -5 instead. I am looking for a particular frame shape, so I've been browsing various stores to find THE ONE. I went in and the person was busy with someone so I walked around looking, until she was done. When she was done she asked 'can I help you' and I said 'I'll let you know in a moment, I'm still looking.' I continued looking, and when I was done like 1min later, I saw her on her phone. I waited like 6-10 secs and pointed asking who is helping me. Her daughter -or whoever- looked dumbfounded saying I don't work here. The lady (with red hair, like 37yrs) didn't come over right away. When she did, I said I'm looking for a certain shape, walking over to the case and pointed at one. She looked at me incredulously asking 'you want to try them on?' -wtf do you do before buying glasses?- Telling me that the one I like might not be there tomorrow, trying to sell me on the 'buy now' b.s.. Already aggravated, I told her that I know her rules--I came there before. She handed one to me, I tried it on, and she immediately went back on her phone a few paces away, turning her back to me. I was appalled at the service. I stared like laser beams were going to come out of my eyes, hoping she would turn around and see my dissatisfaction...she didn't and the daughter just sat there staring back and forth, not hinting at the lady. After a min (but what felt like 3) I said to her, I was not done. She came back and gave me another. No pleasant service, no recommendations, silence. I said to her the style I was looking for; she and I walked around and back looking for that....Silence. Not even recommending something that looks like it. Silence. Fed up, I started to walk out. Not a word to her, just an Irish exit. There was not even a peep from her. (The other place I went to today told me about a style that was coming in next week that I would like and to come back later.) I peeked in as I passed by, and she was already on her phone again. I can't even say that it was poor service because there was basically no service at all. Acting like her ish doesn't stink and she will serve only someone worthy enough. The last year when I went there, I ended up going to metro optics two doors to the left. I wonder if she and her team was the reason why. The fact that I wanted to sign up just to give this review should tell you something. Anything worse as a customer than not feeling worthy? Save your time and breath and go next door to metro optics; They are nicer and they have a better selection. Spend your money somewhere that deserves it. This place is horrible. Like the first review, I was told my insurance didn't cover a lot that I later found out were covered. Within an hour of me placing my order was when I found out they charged me so much more than what I needed to be paying for. I went back and tried to cancel my order and they told me no refunds and no exchanges. Told me they would give me store credit. What was I going to do with store credit to a place I never wanted to come back to? Manager did not care to help. And yes like in review 2, there was An amazing Jennifer who makes you feel like she's really there to help you. She does her job very well to not tell you the actual costs of things and what your insurance covers and makes it seem like everything is a deal. When in reality, it's not. I was quite apprehensive, after the single and terrifying review written. I'm usually not one to write reviews but my experience merited one. Despite my skepticism, I had already scheduled an appointment and since they took my insurance and I work in the area. I decided to bite the bullet and go through with appointment. Especially since I vowed to not go back to Metro Optics, their receptionist as well as salespeople lack any customer service skills. Upon arrival to Vision World, I was greeted very warmly and with a smile by Jennifer a salesperson there. Whom proceeded to get me set up to see the Doctor. Also providing me with information about what my insurance covered and answered my questions in a professional manner. After about a 15 minute wait for the doctor, I was examined. The exam was thorough and the Doctor was pleasant. Furthermore, upon finishing my exam the doctor explained to me I needed glasses for both distance and reading and he recommended a no line bifocal. Which I was reluctant to accept but nonetheless I knew was inevitable.. Since I wore glasses for driving already and had been experiencing some difficulty or blurriness for near. In addition, the Doctor handed me back to Jennifer. Whom reassured me she would take care of me . Being new to the whole bifocal deal, I didn't want to look and feel older than I am. Jennifer took the time to explain to me about their generic, premium, as well as digital lens. I felt very at ease with her definition, input and knowledge of the lenses. She kept it simple and to the point. I even felt like I learned a thing or two. She proceeded to help choose a frame that I was comfortable and was quite pleased with the way it looked on me. Which is an achievement in itself since I never been quite the eyeglass person. I also splurged and added the transition lens which makes the lens go from light to dark. Which she recommended and gave me a quick demonstration on how they worked . Since she had it in her glasses. It made the glasses look like shades. I chose a Prada frame which is shaped like a sunglasses and made with the heavier plastic look that's very popular now. Their selection of frames was perfect and I'm looking forward to picking up my glasses. Overall my experience from start to finish was great . Class act place and staff !! read more
