We began using North Georgia Eye Care three years ago. On each visit Marcie Fambrough, the…read morereceptionist, has been short and curt almost to the point of rudeness but we liked Dr. Cara Robinson and assumed Marcie would have a good day at some point. We purchased glasses and contacts from this office even though they were overpriced compared to online sources. My nine year old son wanted to try contacts since he is beginning to play sports and wanted to try an alternative to glasses, so on our last visit we asked if we could sample some disposable lenses to see if that might work for him. After being treating as a nuisance once again by Marcie, we had an exam with Dr. Robinson. I told her our wishes and for some reason she acted more irritated with every question we asked and said he may be too young to try contacts because the normal age is 12-13. When I asked if it was an option she said it was, but seemed to question again: "Why?" For sports. "Does he practice adequate hygiene to have contacts?" We were asking for disposable so there was no cleaning involved, and my son is meticulous about his personal cleanliness. "Other kids at school are dirty" We homeschool. "Why did we not want UV protection?" I personally had a reaction to UV coating in contacts and the option was available so MAY WE TRY IT PLEASE? The interrogation came to the point of me asking , "Is there a reason this request is so difficult today?" In which she responded to my son "I am ultimately liable for your eye health - you don't want to lose your eye, do you?" Terrified, he went into another room to learn how to insert his contacts. The employee had him wash his hands three times. "Oops, you touched your hair, nope, you touched your face..." to the point where he was now in tears and wanted to forget the whole thing. I have worn contacts for 35 years with no issues and have never experienced this type of treatment from any office or optician. The assumed positive out of this experience was that we had paid for our son's contact prescription. After requesting this from this office, we were told there is no prescription for him even though we paid specifically for a contact exam. I am disappointed and disgusted with the lack of professionalism of your office. I would like to receive what we paid for in good faith or refunded our money.

Lately we've experienced more of the latter and, as a result, will try a different provider next year. Eye exams have always been patient, thorough, and accurate. Last year, the Doctor became mildly irritated with my wife raising concerns about a box of problematic contacts affecting our daughter, as if the issue did not exist. We decided it may be a fluke and came back this year. This year, my son and I have had several problems with eyeglasses we ordered. I asked for Trivex and the best anti-reflective coat available, but we received polycarbonate, Cristal Rock AR on mine, and Cristal Easy Pro AR on my son's. However, my son's lenses have a blue hue in the reflection and Easy Pro should look green (see pic). Additionally, my invoice listed DuraVision Platinum, which would have a blue hue and green is clearly visible in the picture. We did not receive certificates of authenticity for Transitions or Crizal, which both companies say should've been included. It took just over 3 weeks to receive my glasses. Our insurance was blamed, but I would have gladly paid full price and filed a claim directly with them. Instead, no updates were provided and, once I inquired 10 days later, they ordered them after seemingly forgetting. I asked at that time to cancel my order, but they refused. Since receiving the incorrect lenses, I asked to have them replaced, but they again refused.

I took my broken glasses in to see if they could repair - even though I was not a client. Jenny was super kind and helpful and got me sorted out. This happened on a Friday lunch time. I knew that…read moremy prescription had expired quite some time ago, so I figured I would need one of those as well. Being the procrastinator that I am (I'm a college student. What can I say?) I took the risk of calling the morning I was leaving town to return to school. I was sure they would tell me that I was going to have to come back to Athens another time, but they didn't! I was so amazed. I went to Thomas Eye Center right away and I wasn't even through filling out the paperwork before they were leading me into the room to start the exam. The people there were so nice to me and didn't make me feel bad about calling at the last second. And they really knew what they were doing! I've been to a lot of optometrists in my day, and no one has ever been has comforting and easy to work with as these guys. Especially the doctor, Dr. Noriko. She was younger, maybe mid twenties, but was obviously very knowledgable and trustworthy. I honestly probably would have let her touch my eyeball if she needed to, I had that much faith in her. And she was calming. Being in any kind of doctor's office makes me a little uneasy, but her voice was really soothing and pleasant to listen to, and she put me right at ease. The doctors there were very efficient. I must have been in and out of there in 45 minutes. Or, at least, I would have been if my father hadn't needed to speak to the lady handling the insurance and money issues. He can be a little wearing when it comes to money, but she was very patient and kind with him, which I admire. Needless to say, I don't think I'll be going anywhere else for my optical necessities. I want to tell everyone I know in the Athens area to go to Thomas Eye Center on Baxter St., and don't forget to ask for Dr. Noriko!!

Seems more expensive than other similar services in the area Very expensive for sending replacement glasses if you need them mailed in the US---I was told overnight delivery to a US address would be $80-$100 , so we used US Postal Service overnight for $34 (and that included $200 insurance).
