This was my first time at Vision Source and I'll be returning. This is not my first rodeo with eyecare professionals and I felt welcome from the minute I walked in. Everyone was friendly and pleasant. My waiting time was reasonable and the testing was as expected. Once I saw Dr. Morgan who clearly explained all the test results answering any questions I had. My eyes were dilated and I'm still waiting for the effects to wear off (I've had this before - for people with blue eyes this is a common occurrence). Waiting time for the new glasses is longer than some other mall companies, but hopefully will come out right the first time. On the whole it was a good experience. read more

This place should not be in business,very dissatisfied with this company. I was waiting for my girlfriend to get her contacts looked at because they didn't get it right the first time and they took two hours, there were several other people complaining about how long they have been there and they were there longer than what we have. Her first visit was four hours and then this visit was about two, They got the first pair of contacts wrong and then they ordered the wrong lenses for our glasses and then they told us that they would just give us our money back if we're not happy with their service and that we are no longer welcome there. I was recently in Rio Rancho for a short trip and was in need of a new prescription as well as glasses. I went to Vision Source Rio, and was certainly glad I did so. I saw Dr. Morgan and she took great care of me. She was very friendly and quite knowledgeable when I asked her a few specific questions about some minor eye issues I had been experiencing. After my exam, I worked with Analyssa who helped me pick out a great pair of glasses. She was patient and kind. Overall, I had a great experience. I definitely recommend them. read more

Went in for an eye injury because they were the only place who could see me right away. The dr was extremely rude and told me to let him "do his job" when I told him I was only injured in the left eye. I had to go back the next day (Saturday when they weren't open) and he told me to bring someone with me since no one else would be there. I brought my 6 year old son and had my friends 17 year old daughter drive me since I still could barely see. He yelled at my son for walking out of the door of the exam room (he wanted to go to the car for his ipad). He told me I needed to come in a 3rd time for follow up and I went somewhere else because he is so strange and rude. He's just very socially awkward and doesn't understand how to interact and react to people. Probably not a good profession for such a person. We will not be back. read more

Worst Optometrists I have ever been to! They said they take the VSP eyeplan but then try and file the bill under your health insurance plan. My bill using my VSP was over $260! They said they had detected cataracts in both eyes and that I would soon need to have surgery within the next few years to replace my lens - All this medical MISinformation from an optomatrist! They said that because they detected cataracs in my eyes they then had to file under my health insurance and charge me more. I went to a real eye doctor (opthymologist) shortly thereafter and he said there was nothing wrong with either eye and that there were no cataracts detected. Lesson learned - never to go into a place where they require you to sign a multi page waiver document at the front door ! read more

I was just seen by Dr Planitz last week for my yearly eye exam. I was able to be seen on just a day's notice. My regular eye doctor, Dr Clatanoff, was not available. I was in and out in less than an hour. Dr Planitz was very personable and provided clear explanations to all my questions. I've been a patient at Rio Eye Care since 2000, and I've had nothing but positive experiences. Dr Clatanoff has been amazing to work with due to my medical condition with my eyes. I never feel like I'm just a patient with him (or Dr Planitz). He has assisted me with referring me to the best available doctors for my eye surgery. He has been very open to feedback from me. He is very thorough when researching to ensure any questions I ask he has an answer for. When there has been mistakes with my orders, Dr Clatanoff has always done the right thing and has personably made sure my situation was resolved. I think the fact that my wife and 3 kids have been going here almost as long as I have, that it shows the level of trust I have with this place. I've seen some people complaining about the optimap. I everyone is entitled to their opinion. I personally prefer the optimap over having my eyes dilated. It provides a clear picture for the Doctor to not only ensure the current health of your eye, but it also gives them something to compare your eye to year after year. Makes it easier to spot issues. And correct problems early on. To me, it is worth the extra money to help protect my vision. Please don't fault a doctor for wanting to use the best that technology offers to help them do their job. I've also seen some complaints about the pricing at this place of business. First off, they provide a wide variety of frames to work with. For the people that are economically conscious, to those of us who like to have some style because our glasses are a necessity. I prefer Oakleys. Yes, they are on the expensive side. But Oakleys are expensive anywhere. My wife is on the opposite side of the spectrum. And Rio Eye Care has options that fit her needs and her budget she has set out for frames. As for the lenses, I have never once been pushed into purchasing anything that I did not want. Of course they have offered me extra options that I have declined. They are a business. They are looking to make my vision experience as great and perfect as possible. But when I have politely declined some of those options, they are cool with it. There is no high pressure sales atmosphere to deal with. And there has been various times I've asked Dr Clatanoff to try out new technologies for different types of contacts or eye procedures that were extremely expensive. With his research, and with his understanding of my eye condition, he has educated me on why some of the requests I've made would not work out for me. If he was just in this for the money, he would have allowed me to try some of those technologies out. I hope people will find this review helpful. It's normal for people to post less than desirable experiences. But I felt it was important to let people know of all of my family's positive experiences We've had with both Dr Clatanoff and Dr Planitz. Thank you and your staff. I've been going here for a long time for my annual eye exam and I never had any issues. The doctors and the staff are courteous and friendly over the years and my exams normally take about an hour. On 8/30/16, I called to setup an appointment for my eye exam and they were able to get me in the following morning. Also, I would like to welcome Dr. Morgan to Vision Source Rio. read more

If I could give a no star I would. Everything was amazing the staff, the waiting room, the doctors ... until i got to the payment portion. First getting a quote of $800 for an eye exam and contact fitting and evaluation. Wondering how I'm supposed to pay this or even know before what the price would be I questioned it. After questioning it the young woman who was helping stands up and tells me she can see what she can do. I waited and she comes back with a brand new price of $200. So where did that quote come from? I question it again telling me she didn't put my insurance in(as my insurance won't cover the exam) She then leaves again and comes back with a new total of $167.. Now having to pay $167 for an appointment and no contacts. Must pay in full before I get my glasses and my contacts. I suggest you ask for totals and make sure they take your insurance before even making an appointment. They also charge you for a eye scan that you have no choice they will do it anyways. Yes it says in the policy but there was never a price. So an appointment for an eye exam is already $200. How? read more

These are quite possibly the rudest people i have ever met in health care. My daughter was 6 days away from her annual check up and tore her last contact, a day before her graduation party. Her dad is in the military and tricare would not cover the visit because he hadn't been a year. These people would not budge on giving us a temporary pair and said that because we never did a follow up visit we had to pay full price, over $300. Both the receptionist and I'm guessing office manager or billing person treated us as if we were bad people, holding my daughters eyesight hostage because we didn't follow their rules. read more

The office staff and the techs were great.. dr. Planitz was terrible! quick to try to sell products, never explained what the exam showed. I had to ask the check out clerk what if any diagnosis there was, to which she said, " oh ya, your near sighted and have astigmatism". When i asked to see the doctor to talk about this, " she was with another patient". It would have been nice to have a discussion regarding the exam findings. Now, I have questions I guess I'll just have to google.... read more

I had the option of going to EyeMart or Wal-Mart to have my eyes checked, I chose not to because I wanted the best (not the cheapest) eye care that was in my area. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, and Dr. Clatanoff was extremely helpful in fitting my contacts! read more

I have been going here for about 5 years and have found both doctors to be thorough and professional. I love the Optomap which allows them to save images from year to year for comparison and they have been able to do testing of other medical related eye issues in a reasonable time frame. Overall, the best you'll find in the city, even if their frames are pricey. You can always get the exam there and buy glasses/contacts elsewhere! read more

Horrible experience they charge 40 $ for an exam not telling in advance and we're rude and inconsiderate

My wife and I both went in for a yearly eye exam checkup at the same time, and they had us sign some paperwork saying that we would have a optomap done and that most insurance does not cover it so we would need to pay out of pocket for that. I went up and asked how much it cost, and they told me $40. They also told me it was office policy to have it done, and I could not opt out of it, they would refuse to see me without it. I was angry at that point, but didn't want to go to the hassle of finding another optometrist, so I dealt with it. We got our glasses and everything done, and the bill was $385.00, which they told me didn't include one of the optomaps because they were billing the medical insurance. Turns out the medical insurance didn't cover it, so the insurance is saying I owe $257 for that procedure. I got the breakdown of the bill from the eye insurance, and it was saying that the optomaps were $40 per eye, which was not made clear, and neither was it at the time of paying the bill at Rio Eyecare, so it cost $80 to have the optomaps done, in addition to the eye exams and the glasses/contacts. I'm not planning on going there again if I can help it. read more

I needed to get my eyes looked at, but my regular Dr. could not get me in. When these guys got me in the same day I called I should have wondered about it? Little did I know that not only did they take my insurance, but after all was said and done, they still wanted an additional $400.00 and some odd dollars. My overall experience with Vision source was not a pleasant one. The exam they offered was decent and have no complaints. Ordering my glasses was another story, I won't go into the long details but I had to go back four times as they couldn't get it right, after the final time I asked for a refund which they kindly provided. I went to Costco where I got two pairs of glasses for half the price of what I paid from Vision source for the one pair and Costco got it right the first time. In summary, if you need an exam this place is fine, go somewhere else for your glasses. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Clatanoff for 15 years or so. My husband was less than thrilled to go to the eye dr in general, but I knew his experience would be wonderful with Vision Source Rio-and once again, they did not disappoint! The entire staff is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Dr Clatanoff makes us feel comfortable and our overall experience is always positive! Although we only visit annually, everyone in the office remembers us and treats us like family. We will never go any place else! read more

We LOVE Rio Eyecare! My entire family gets checked there every year. The staff is wonderful -- especially with our son. The frame selection is always changing and we either find just what we need or they find it and order it right away. Plus, the warranties on frames and lenses are phenomenal. I used to go to a discount one-hour type place, but I will never ever go back. The dramatic difference in quality of lenses and frames is simply not worth it. read more

They gave me horrible service. My copay is $10. When I left and went to pay they charged me $51. When I asked why they said it was $40 for a eye health scan that insurance doesn't cover. I was so side blinded that I just payed and then called the next day. The lady was rude to me. I said that if their is anything my insurance does not cover I should always have an option and nobody verbally told me about this extra fee. She said it was NOT an option! That it was required by them. I said that is wrong to force a patient to have to have something done that comes out of their pocket and not insurance. She said, "if you don't like then you can find another provider!" I was sooo mad that they would treat a paying patient like that.
