I tried putting a review on Google but it wasn't working.I even took pictures of the signs posted of hours and the fact that the place is dark, locked up and CLOSED at 4:40 pm on Thursday March 11th, 2021.The hours state Tuesday-Friday 9:30 am-6pm.I was told when I was here last week, that they'd be closed a couple days but open back up again Tuesday this week. It's now Thursday and during "Open"hours but they are very much CLOSED with no sign out of courtesy to costumers/clients.This upsets me because a great deal of planning in one's week&work schedule, and the fact i have to cross route 9 by foot with no crosswalk,I have a nurse mother who was run over,so I get very nervous crossing hectic roads!I planned my whole week around coming here today and simply wanted to place my order and do my purchase for a couple new pairs of eye glasses.I must mention that this is at least the second time this has happened where the place is closed when they advertise to the contrary.I have tried calling ahead but you never get an answer so it have to try and risk it because they are entirely unreliable as a "business".I mentioned this to the eye doctor/owner and he kind of mumbled around it.I only have a couple days to complete my purchase in order to apply the costs towards my medical deductions for the year.I don't know if i have time to go elsewhere and decide since I had my choices made with what the selection was here. Furthermore, the $99 advertised &promoted to me, magically transformed into $219, they knew my script ahead, so why tell me $99 from the get-go if they knew id cost more!? When I questioned the steep hike in price out of curiosity as anyone would,"Oh it's your specific prescription",that's only for plastic. Why aren't people honest from the start anymore? Why tell a costumer one thing to switch it to a rip-off later, why not just tell me the legit price right off?The owner is creepy as hell!He gave me a mean weird look when he was saying something about kicking people out of his store after i commented on how nice the lady is that works here and how she didn't say I was ugly in any of the specs, he goes on to say that he has told people to leave that do that, but the way he looked at me was very irrate and nasty,as though being focused on me.I also found it creeps how you can't lock the bathroom door and they are on top of your every move here! You have no space to browse freely,I can put pairs I try on aside.I do appreciate help/feedback,but this was just too much hovering and plain strange. The lady is terrific here and if not for her,id not have come back. She's friendly and warm, kind/helpful.They do not have enough people working here&I imagine it likely has to do with this owner and his mean/off personality. He truly looked at me in a scary way as though he wanted to tell me to leave when I was nothing but pleasant. If it bothers him I did my own thing and looked around, put the glasses in a basket I tried on and kept my mask on,that's his own problem because their policy isn't practical or realistic.Too many costumers&not enough staff and some of us don't want you on top of us all the time.He seems to get irritated and angry at the nicest people. If I had time id go elsewhere but I did enjoy the lady he has working here!I suggested this owner hire more help if they don't want us wondering around alone.I was on my phone at one point busy with my own business but they were not available anyhow.I am not sure why he seemed angry when I am the kind of costumer a place most desires!I am also intensely loyal/big spender!I am also not sure why they randomly close and don't answer the phone although the lady did answer when i was in there and had problems with the line.I think the place is mismanaged and it's hurting their reputation. The owner has some kind of psychological problems that he could be so mean&that's definitely not appropriate/conducive to running a successful business with the public. If not for the delightful lady I don't think this place would have much going for it.I didn't have much freedom to look at more brands, they should be open more or at least when they claim to be,so we could look and not have a helicopter hawking over us!Another costumer drives up only to be confused&upset too.She said the same thing I thought,no note out of courtesy even. They seem to be open when they want. Same goes with their faulty phone line/lack of bothering to fix it.Either something bad happened &I hope is not the case,or they just don't take business seriously and lack consideration to their costumers.Bad attitude in all areas of judgement.Wish I could have looked in peace and not felt uncomfortable.I came here because no appt required but I think I prefer that to an overcrowded/mismanaged place with creepy elements or CLOSED during hours of supposed operation.lf they want to be on top of everyone, they should be doing appts like other places, but that would require them to have to be OPEN & committed, wouldn't it?

Debra and David have been exceedingly kind and forbearing, as I have broken my new glasses more than once--and they obligingly worked with me to fix my problem.

I was an optometrist medical client at MyEyeDr at 22 University Dr, Amherst, MA 01002. I went there…read moreright when they took over Dr Wadman's optometrist office which I went to for over 10 years - & I was assigned the male optometrist there (I do NOT recommend him, I've heard okay things about the woman though), after I'd called ahead several days before to make sure I had enough for the the contact lens fee secured, I was there on time at the date of my appointment. After a 45 min wait for my appointment I was seen, because they were running late - it happens, sure - but then without prior warning I was denied the contact lens exam to get my contact lens prescription. That was why I went there. I was able to pay for its cost in addition to the glasses exam covered by my masshealth health insurance. The male optometrist, who I was meeting for the first time, cited that a lack of previous years of having any relationship with me as his patient (after his practice kicked out my last doctor so how could I even have that?!) meant he couldn't trust me, a 30+ year old adult, with having a contact lens prescription and he would be liable. He refused to give it to me even though he told me that he knew what the prescription I needed was. He decided he wouldn't, was aggressively smug about his decision for the remaining 20 mins of our appt during which I begged him to change his mind during the remainder of my eye exam. By the time I left I was practically in tears from how he spoke to me. I left a review on another platform, and they deleted it because I do not wish to share my legal name. DO NOT go here if you want contact lenses - only go to get a prescription for glasses. If they guarantee you anything more, they are possibly lying to you like they lied to me. I was hugely let down when I wanted and expected I could get a prescription for contact lenses here. After they denied me care, I was unable to afford a new eye exam's full cost myself elsewhere, so I couldn't get contact lenses with the eye exam covered by my insurance for another 2 years (the doctor knew this about me, which is why he was able to talk to me like that and act so smug knowing he'd face no ramifications) until MassHealth could cover a new one again for me, at a new/better optometrist than at MyEyeDr in Amherst, or any MyEyeDr I imagine, where in my experience they refuse to give out contact lens prescriptions when they are paid for that exact service. PLEASE don't make the mistake I made and expect both the truth and also the care you would normally get from optometrists from them. I will never go back to the building that doctor denied me care in, my experience was too negative for me to try to set foot in there again.

However, the experience was as good as it possibly could have been- they seemed really prepared and educated and after a bunch of specialized machine scans they told me the news in a really kind but straightforward manner. I had my eye exam, and a new prescription was written based on that exam. My new glasses were awful. I went back for a follow up visit to see what correction was needed, another prescription was written and again, the glasses were awful. I went back a third time, was finally listened to, and another new prescription was written. Not surprisingly, the third set of lenses were the worst of the three and absolutely unusable. I have requested my complete records back in order to move on to a new provider and I was told that my records now belong to Balin Eye & Laser Center and that I have to request my records in writing and pay $0.50 per page to have them copied before they will release them to me. Dr. Brown was nice but his prescription(s) weren't correct for me and my new glasses are totally useless to me. In addition, the entire office space and exam rooms are outdated and in need of updating at the very least. The patient use rest room had wall paper hanging off the walls and the ceiling fan was filthy with dust when I was last there. Good luck if you choose this eye care center.
