After six years with LensCrafters, my wife took me to this clinic and had already told me about the excellent customer service. Dr. Orathay and his assistants, Lacy Joslin and Jamie Lewis, were always very friendly, which makes a big difference compared to other optometry clinics. They don't look at your face with a dollar sign. My prescription was for transition lenses, which didn't work for me, and they agreed to exchange them for bifocals. When they called me to pick up the lenses, everything was EXCELLENT. For the prescription change, they also gave me a small refund to my debit card (something unexpected). this was my first time (and my husband's) going to an optometry office that wasn't target. dr. t was very nice and quick with explaining eye problems and finding the correct lens. i gave the office girls a little bit of a hard time because i was looking for a new style and then when i found the ones i liked i decided i wouldn't get them because they weren't fully covered by my insurance. the ladies were super understanding, clear about insurance coverage and nice (i think one was shadowing). they send message reminders for the appt and when your glasses are ready. i'll probably be back again next year. read more

Since moving to Modesto, I've established my vision care at this place for past few years. I love the Optometrist. She's very nice and caring; very thorough in her assessments. The only problems I have is with their other staff. The first time I was there, they incorrectly charged me a higher price for my contacts; ultimately they refunded me and ordered me the right amount of contacts. I gave them the benefit of doubt, went back the following year, got my yearly eye exam and ordered new set of contacts. No issues at the appointment; my optometrist was lovely. The issue came afterwards. I called to ask when I can pick up the contacts and they said I can pick up anytime. I went there and low and behold, they said appointments only and was so rude about it, thinking I was lying about being told I can pick it up. I'm not the type of person to lie or say things falsely. It's their lack of training their staff that led to this issue, not the patients fault. I guess the final straw is I referred my coworker to this place awhile back because I think the Optometrist can help her with her eye issues last year. She liked the Optometrist for sure but just recently this year, she gets a call from them saying her glasses were ordered and card billed. My coworker did not order any glasses and freaked out. So I'm guessing they mixed up patient information. I guess this is the first and last time I'm referring anyone to them. What an embarrassment! The two stars is for their Optometrist only. I have been going here for quite a few years and everyone is so nice and welcoming. All the doctors I've seen are very patient and answer all my questions that I usually have. When I've chosen my glasses, I get new ones every year, they run through my costs with me so I know what to expect. I don't know about other reviewers, but I've never been surprised with another cost because I've been walked through my bill on my actual visit. I work in customer service as well so I know things can be difficult, but I've never had an issue with anyone in this office, and I will continue to keep referring my friends and family here. read more

I have been to many Optometry offices over the years and am glad I was introduced to VF always get knowledge on my eyes health and if my prescription has changed since my last visit something that I had always been considered about when I wasn't a customer here. Would recommend any one of the doctors at this location. I am now comfortable enough to wear contact lenses that they provided to me. I struggle with a high stigmatism. So many styles of glasses that I am able to choose, usually end up deciding on a few pairs because there are many options fortunately. read more

Every time we order glasses here they are delayed for weeks. This year they arrived at a reasonable time. Well I called weeks later to see if my glasses were ready. Do NOT got to this place!!! Ive been going here-for a while, and first They cut me off cause We missed an appointment due to having Chemo that day. So the following year I booked again everything fine. I called today to reschedule, she asked me if we been there before I say yes, and before she asks me anything else she say: What type of insurance you have? "Plan of San Joaquin", ...... then says: Ya we are not booking until a month or so. I ask, What if I had private insurance? We can book right away! Wow!! This place has lost their customer service and their sympathy towards ppl. Shame on you Dr. Nancy E. Shoji ********** Thanks for sharing that Medi-Cal information, Was that so hard to do?? I've been coming here for years. A Loyal customer. After today and after I get my glasses (since I already ordered them) I will never come back. Just take a look at all the bad reviews that just goes to show you how horrible this place is. They don't care and do not care to make things right with their customers. I had an adjustment on my prescription sunglasses today (not purchased at their store). I signed a waiver for this reason. After adjusting when they brought my glasses back to me I couldn't see anything! It was so blurry I even tried wiping them clean and the lady said she already cleaned them. We tried to readjust and nothing! I still can't see out of my $250 sunglasses that were just purchased 5 months ago. I asked her what cleaner she used could that have caused damage? They said the adjustment probably changed how the glasses were sitting on my face?! It makes zero sense to me. After asking for my total if EVERYTHING I decided to proceed with getting regular seeing glasses not sunglasses. They called me a few hours later and told me they forgot to charge me the $50 for my context lense exam. AYFKM?! How about a discount or waiving the fee since your worker ruined my sunglasses I now need to replace. On the waiver I signed it said nothing about using a cleaner on mt glasses I did not authorize that! I called to say that and they are still standing by they did nothing wrong and they will do nothing to make it right. This business owner should look at being something else, because he/she is lousy. I'm a real estate agent. I do business everyday and I do everything in my power to make it right with clients. Guess that's now how this place works. read more

I had issues with this office 4 years ago, and I guess somethings haven't changed. Went in on May 2nd for my appointment with the promise that we would have our contacts and glasses within 7-10 business days, that did not happen. Our contacts came in on time and so did my wife's glasses. My glasses came in yesterday 5/24; 22 days later!!! When I followed up on my glasses the first time they told me the lab cut the wrong lenses for the frames, only to be called back and be told that my frames were now lost... So were the lenses cut wrong or were my frames lost... I still have no idea. I had to go back in and pick a new frame because the ones that were "lost" were discontinued. The lady told me that it would be another 7-10 business days because they would need to order the frames from the manufacturer 3-5 days (guess the original mistake didn't qualify for an overnight rush delivery, to make good on their mistake), and then send them to the lab for the lenses to be cut. Meanwhile my wife was having issues with her contacts, they didn't fit correctly and her vision was blurry. She called to follow up and come to find out they gave her the wrong prescription... Well they aren't taking responsibility, because they "don't know how or where these contacts came from". When I brought in the contacts to show them they were the wrong ones, every lady in the building had a deer in the head lights look, and no one had an answer. Like every business they offer a product and a service and like other businesses mistakes happen, or the products good but service is bad or vise versa. This place fails every category, the product wasn't what we paid for or received in the time given. And the service was awful.. During this entire process my wife and I were given attitude and made us feel less than. Ultimately we left with very nice glasses, and we will wear them hoping we get the inevitable question "where did you get those glasses? They're nice". Because I am going to enjoy letting everyone know where exactly I got these glasses and how horribly Vision Faire Optometry conducts business. read more

I went to Kaiser back in my town for an eye exam. I needed a new prescription so I looked around their glasses selection... but there wasn't anything I liked. I asked about the prices and they were really steep at $500 or $600... especially with the terrible vision I have. And, Kaiser didn't cover glasses. :/ I need to wear glasses all the time, but it they had to be affordable. I'm a broke college student. I wanted to look somewhere else. I asked anybody I could ask about any place that offered nice glasses at an afforable price. My cousin referred me here. They had a pair I really liked, and at an afforable price too! I was so happy. They really do have good service. The staff are very nice. The problem is that it is a two hour drive. But was worth it when I went. I was able to see my family and get nice glasses. :) read more

Where to begin. My vision was wrong and yes I wore the new prescription for over a month and even worse the sales people added more features in charging me for features I did not ask for. When I expressed my concerns to the Manager she said she didn't have authority to reverse the charges. I've come here for many years but but never again I am done with this place not to mention it took them weeks to get me my glasses and when it was finally ready I ran into this garbage!!! I can only come on Saturdays and was referred here by my boss, I realize it's late in the day but I was told I could walk in, there was not a soul around and was refused...guy who came to door said they close in 15 minutes but it was 4:13, he did not even want to set an appt, I totally got the feeling that he would not help me he was heading home, all the lights were off and everything inside. I just received my latest pair of glasses from Vision Faire Optometry, and am very pleased! The frame is high quality (it was actually difficult to choose between a few different designer frames they had in stock) and the prescription is spot on. In terms of the service, the staff was pleasant, and most importantly to me, competent. They scheduled my appointment efficiently and were polite to interact with. Receptionist/staff very nice! 3 stars because i went in for an appointment but couldn't have the exam done due to my vision prescription being really high & i wanted to continue wearing contacts. Optometrist couldn't perform a thorough eye exam or a contact lenses exam because she says she cant even recommend contacts for me even though I've been wearing them for 7+ years & other doctors have OK'd she couldn't OK it & told me to go somewhere else. I have been going to this office for well over 10 years. I've always had good service, BUT, my last visit was very disappointing. Went through my exam fine and picked out a new frame and add ons for my lens. I also ordered new lens for another pair of frames. During the process I was told prices and what was covered under my insurance and what was not. The optician, who was new, had a print out from my insurance right in front of her going over prices. At one point she even checked with another employee about something. I was given a total and paid. Later that day I received a call from the optician that the frames I picked were more than my insurance would cover. She said she was doing the right thing by calling me and informing me she had made a mistake and needed my approval for the extra $46. Apparently my only option was to come back to the office and pick out a new frame or pay the difference. I requested the office manager return my call so that we could discuss this further. Her stance was the same. Inconveniencing a loyal customer apparently takes precedence over their employees mistakes. It's really not the amount that bothers me, it's the absolute refusal to do the right thing. If you want a customer to come back or refer new customers, which I have done in the past, you don't treat their time so nonchalantly. I will no longer be doing business here and will definitely not be referring this business to anyone. read more

I've been coming here since I was a child and so has my family, and this place is just not the same anymore. The current staff (NOT including the eye doctors) are always rude and make so many mistakes! My dad was giving the wrong prescription for his glasses, my sister was called in to pick up her glasses only to come in and be told "sorry we don't have any glasses for you and the ones you ordered are no longer available....mind you, she had received a call literally two hours earlier saying to come pick them up!! And if you have medi-cal be prepared to be treated differently and given a run around for an appointment! I always pay for my yearly contact fitting, I get a pair of contacts and a small solution, this time when I asked for my solution I was told "no we don't do that's only if you buy a year supply of contacts" !! Ive never boughten a year supply of contacts there because I get them way cheaper at Costco! And the girl was acting like I didn't just pay for my contacts?! She has the nerve to say "well you can just take the solution" like I'm trying to get a tiny free solution?! I've always been told it comes with the contact fitting because you buy a pair when you get fitted and she was calling me a liar! That was the last straw for me.... I will no longer return here and will take my business elsewhere. Sad because I've been coming here over 15 years! But Nancy Shoji is a great eye doctor, just needs new staff with better customer service! read more

I was greeted when I walked in. Reception was friendly. I waited only a couple minutes before going back for some preliminary tests. Then I went into another room and waited 2-3 minutes for the doctor. She was amazing. One of the friendliest women I've ever met. Very kind during my exam. She explained everything very well the entire time. When she was done I was taken out to pick new frames. I waited for maybe a minute and someone came to ask me about my preferences. She then spent 15-20 minutes helping me choose frames until I found ones I loved. She never made me feel rushed. I had the best experience coming here. I'm so glad we chose this place. read more

The doctor and staff were great...until I told them I just wanted the prescription to have my glasses made through Costco. At that point, you would have thought I dropped a bomb. The doctor and staff turned cold and rude. Well, I'm sorry, but my insurance won't cover a $700 pair of glasses. My out of pocket is more than what Costco charges. Frames are way overpriced at the optometrist. They could have at least thanked me for my business. After all, they were well paid for their exam services. Truly the worst optometry I've ever had the displeasure of going to. The staff was extremely rude especially the woman with curly hair named Chendre. Also the optometrist is just as cold and rude, and just laughed when I complained about the rudeness of her staff. Be careful what the doctor offers; she'll offer you an extra procedure on you such as contact lens fitting and a laser consultation and won't even have the decency or common courtesy to warn you that it's not even covered by your insurance. The doctor was also constantly trying to upsell me on their glasses and contact lenses, and I kept on telling them all I want is a prescription so I can go get my glasses at the place where I usually like to go and they made it so damn difficult for me. I practically had to pull teeth to get my prescription from them. read more

This is the second year going to VFO for my annual exam and eyewear. I absolutely love Dr. T who provides excellent care, and is super friendly, and knowledgeable. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about her staff. These ladies have made quite a few mistakes with my eyewear this year and now my glasses have been sent to the lab for the third time. I feel they lack the proper experience in the field because they don't know what they are doing. My husband went to return my glasses and the young lady explained that the order has been corrected and she see's nothing wrong with them. She insisted her examination showed there was no progressive on the lenses. When I called she finally read the order and said the lab added progressives instead of removing it. Now completely frustrated all the little things like, different total amounts, or calling us and telling us our glasses are ready only to drive down and find out they are not; is annoying. To be fair, there are new faces, but they look like they are right out of high school so this may be the reason why they do not understand what's going on. At this point, I just want my glasses and hope I do not have to wait another two weeks for them because the lab is located in Southern California. read more

The people are nice, but the quality of their products is poor. The lab they use is incompetent and only provides a one year warranty, where most other places offer two years. Double check everything before you leave, go outside and check tinting and scratches. Go for the exam, but purchase frames/lenses somewhere else. read more

I brought my grandmother in a few weeks back to pick up glasses. A lady sitting at the front desk with black hair and black sweater (I didn't get her name, which now I wish I did) never greeted us, treated my elderly grandma very poorly. When my grandmother asked questions about her lenses she was very short with no personality as if she was trying to rush us out of the office. When I scanned the office it was pretty empty, not sure on why she was being rushed. The fact that my grandmother has known Dr. Nancy Shoji for years that treatment I find UNACCEPTABLE! If you plan to work in a customer/patient care setting you should always give your 100% each time. read more

Had a very bad experience with one girl in particular, was very rude, condescending and generally unhelpful, rolled her eyes when I asked a question and tried to up sell my 9 year old son on his glasses. When I asked to speak to the office manager, she told me that "she wasn't in right now", after I left and my son confirmed that it was not just me, I called ( 5 minutes time) to find that the office manager was in, and she was almost as rude and condescending as the girl! The staff is great there! I have been going to Dr. Shoji for almost ten years! The selection of glasses isn't always so great. Out of those ten years, I've only gotten glasses from them once. I find that Costco has more of a variety. For women, there's a lot of somewhat childish looking glasses. A lot of purples and pinks. Not something an adult woman would want. For some odd reason, every time you get a checkup & order contacts, they charge a contacts fitting fee. They only helped me and fitted my contacts once when I first learned how to put contacts on. It's been years now yet they still charge that fee. Doesn't make any sense. Overall the staff and doctors are great! They're speedy with pretty much everything! They know what they're doing 99% of the time! It's just these little unnecessary fees that they throw in here & there that kind of ruin it. Would I go here again? Yes, a hundred times yes! read more
