I've been hesitant to leave a review, hoping my experience was just a one-time issue. Unfortunately, it wasn't--my wife also had a disappointing experience, which suggests a pattern. At the end of the year, I ordered new lenses for my frames, knowing my insurance would renew the following month. I provided my updated insurance info and was quoted just under $100 out-of-pocket for new glasses. The office manager confirmed the quote and told me they'd save it in the system. They took measurements and asked me to call after January 1st to finalize the order. On January 3rd, I called as instructed. The staff member said she'd place the order and call back for payment. A few hours later, she did--but told me I now owed over $600. I explained that this must be an error, as I had been quoted under $100 just a few weeks earlier. She said she'd check and get back to me. Later, the office manager called and insisted I was mistaken, claiming no such quote was ever given. I asked her to review the records, but she said she already had and stood by the higher price. While I have a lot of respect for the doctor himself, the handling by the office staff has led me to take my business elsewhere. It's unfortunate, but I can't trust a team that doesn't stand by their word or treat patients with accountability. read more

I really tried to give this office the benefit of the doubt, but after my recent experience, I won't be returning. The staff ordered the wrong prescription for my glasses, and instead of taking responsibility, they tried to pin the mistake on me. To make matters worse, I was forced to pay out of pocket to fix their error. Mistakes happen, but how a business handles them says everything--and in this case, the lack of accountability and professionalism was incredibly disappointing. I expect better from any medical provider. I'll be finding a new optometrist and would caution others to be careful when dealing with this office. read more

It was finally time to get some glasses. After 34 years my eye's have had it!! I went through tons of reviews like I always do to help make a good selection and found Dr. Hinkleys office. With Covid-19 they are taking extreme precautions for your safety ( do be patient) and the office is immaculate! The staff is wonderful and helpful with KAYLA being the highlight of my visit! I made an appointment and they scheduled me three months out and then they when they called me tell me my appointment was up and I wasn't available I was a no call no show and now they're charging me a $50 service fee. for no service. Dr. James & Dr. Hinkley as well as their staff are excellent! I recently got a contact lens stuck in my eye which ended up scratching and irritating my eye. I stopped by their office (without an appointment) and Dr. James was able to squeeze me in within 15 minutes! Gave me some medicated drops and within a day or so my eye was back to normal. I visited here yesterday with my daughter and her 2 yr old daughter for an eye issue with the 2yr old and was amazed at the kind and patient care we all received !! They were especially patient with our little bundle of energy ( the 2 yr old). I've been a patient of Hinkley Optometric for at least 4 years. I love the care my teen daughters and I receive. We have had eye care for many years and with many different optometrists over the years and Hinkley is by far the best experiences we've had. My prescription is not easy but they have listened to my needs and I always go away satisfied with my care, the exams and the with the professionalism displayed, from the front office staff to the the doctors and the expertise of the frame process. My oldest daughter has had glasses for years and requested contact lenses. I was nervous but they spent a lot of time getting the prescription right and helping her, from lens placement instruction and caring of her contacts. Well, I defiantly would like everyone to know that this is the eye place to go! My daughter have been seen here and my husband and i were to be seen but because of the covid19 we had to cancel our appointment. My husband out of no where had a ruptured blood vessel and his eye was not looking right, i called Dr Hinkleys office and even though he was not a patient they were still able to take care of him. My husbands eye started to get worse and no one ophthalmologist would see him if he wasen't refereed out by his pcp or an optometrist so i called Hinkleys office and Dr Zardo DEFIANTLY went over and beyond to make this happen !! Mind you my husband is not a patient yet with them. He was able to be seen by an Ophthalmologist and we are truly thankful to the receptionist that got our call and Dr Zardo that went that extra mile !! I have worn glasses, nearly every type of contact lens, and have had eye surgery more than once. I have a collection of negative experiences. I picked up my new glasses today and the only misinformation was that it could take a few days, possibly a week to get used to them. Wrong! I have been wearing them for over 4 hours now - shopped, drove, stairways and library! They are visually accurate and so comfortable- also much prettier than I've had in over two decades. The Dr. was patient, informative and answered all of my questions. The assistant was wonderful helping me to choose the frame, measured excellently for focal variances and adjusted them beautifully upon pickup. My observations during the short waiting periods are that any individual working in this office would provide this excellent level of care, so not naming names. Just go here! read more

I have many problems with this place, mostly surrounding the front office staff. The doctor and technicians I saw seemed competent. * To start, it took forever to get an appointment. * I was talked into progressive lenses and told that if I did not like them I could change them to single vision. Guess I should have clarified that I would be charged for the change. You would think if someone says you can change them if you don't like them it indicates there would not be a charge. * It took 4 weeks to get the glasses. After my appointment I needed to provide additional information for the order. I called the next day and got the voicemail so I left my information there. When I called 2 weeks later to see if my glasses were in the order had not even been placed. Turns out they were not checking their voicemail because the person that knows how to get into it is gone and no one thought to figure it out. So my order finally gets placed after having waited 2 weeks for nothing. * So 2 weeks goes by and I called to see if my glasses were in and they were but I hadn't received a call to that effect. * After picking them up and trying them for 24 hours I knew I could not get used to the progressive lenses. Basically you have to move your head to clearly see what you want to see. Not like single vision where you can move your eyes anywhere on the lens and still see clearly. I return the next day to get the process started to get the lenses changed and I was told that I did not give it enough time. I had to try them for a week. Are you kidding me? I was there for 2 hours taking with the manager and was almost brought to tears. I just want something I can see with. So I waited a week and went back to the office to submit the order. Another 2 weeks goes by and I finally pick up glasses that I am happy with. * For some reason I decide to give them another try - mostly because I was too lazy to find another office because I really needed to get computer glasses. This visit went smoother but come to find out...they WAY over charge for frames. I got a pair of Valentino frames and was charged $345 but online shows them as low at $153 (list price shows $252) - for real. I also wanted to get prescription sunglasses and found them online for $100 cheaper. * After finally being done with this office a YEAR later, I get a bill. Apparently, when I picked up my 2 pair of glasses the incompetent office staff only charged me for one. Since you never get a receipt from them, I had no idea that my charge was only for 1 pair. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. A lot of other offices now have an updated selection. read more

Things just get working with this place. My husband called 2 weeks to go to schedule an appointment. He's told, once again, they don't have any openings. He was put on a call list to call if anything opens. That's unacceptable. He has extremely bad Vision, he can't see without his glasses and he does a lot of driving, especially with our kids. He broke his glasses and needs to be in as soon as possible! I will not ever understand the reason for not being able to schedule a patient for an appointment. Especially in a situation like this, where this is your field of expertise and should know what is considered urgent or not. I work in the dental field and could never imagine a patient calling in saying their teeth are hurting and not being able to get them in. That's what we are there for! During my conversation and in asking more questions about why they cannot book an appointment, I find out that he has the option to come in and mediately, if he's a cash paying patient! I then proceeded to ask if he was to come in as a cash paying patient would they not be able to build his insurance? I'm told no! If they have him down as a cash patient, they will not use his insurance. This is seems illegal and fraudulent! You can not knowingly charge a patient with insurance your cash prices! In addition to that, you are not booking a patient based on their insurance coverage? They are not treating patients equally in Fair. This is ridiculous. The person I spoke with today, Jessica, was previously extremely helpful and accommodating. This time, not so much. Of course the blame is put on the fact that there were so called changes made. She did offer to have the manager call me. I don't need to be called and told the same thing as second time. I'm not one to continue up the ladder to try to get my way. If they lose out on a family of 6 as patients, while then they lose out. They don't deserve my family or my business. I will definitely be switching offices, do not go here! I will also be contacting my insurance company to report my experiences with them! read more

We used to love this office, sadly the last few years they have had too much turn around in staff and our experiences have declined. The staff randomly found we owed for updated lenses for my son they say we received 2 years ago yet I never ordered or took possession of. We've been in the office multiple times with nothing ever said until recently. After being told it was taken care of, my son was selecting new frames after his exam and the office manager accosted me in the middle of the office about this billing saying we were no longer welcome if I did not pay the $150 bill in question. Red flag HIPAA violation as speaking where other customers can hear about billing is not allowed. Sadly we will not be returning thanks to the office staff. To top it off they went out of their way after we left to email me the statements and the pick up date they have we were out of the state for two weeks then. Scam billing!!! I will say Dr Hinkley and Dr James are great at their jobs. We always appreciate our exams with them. read more

Our family have been patients of Dr. Bruce Hinkley for nearly 30 years. We have always received excellent care from the front office all the way through the exam process. I took my 89 year old Mother-in-Law to Dr. Hinkley's office for the first time today. From start to finish the experience was positive, professional and very sensitive to a senior. Dr. Hinkley's staff were wholeheartedly accommodating. I have not experienced a health provider as skilled and patient in treating someone of advanced years as Dr. Hinkley. He spent unrushed time during her exam and facilitated her having the confidence to relax and give accurate feedback. It had been 6 years since I was seen at Hinkley Optometric. I called for an appointment and was seen the next morning. I love this place. The office staff was so friendly, a lot of smiles and laughing. Dr. Hinkley explained everything during my examination. He's so kind and makes sure you understand everything about your tests.
