Professional optometrist, support staff was nice but a little scatterbrained, glasses were very pricey, and anti-reflective coating is $100 (others provide for $40-$70.) Dr Lin--Great!! Front Desk Staff--Horrible!! Absolutely the RUDEST front desk staff anywhere!! I ordered a several hundred dollar pair of prescription Coach sunglasses from Vision Dynalmics. I was told when I picked up the glasses that they had lost the protective case for them. They ordered a replacement case, and when it came in, I made another trip back to Vision Dynamics to pick the case up. Unfortunately, they ordered a case that was much too small, and the sunglasses would not fit inside. They promised to order another case in the right size this time. Tonight there was a very rude message from Shirley of Vision Dynamics telling me that she was tired of holding on to my case--why hadn't I picked it up?? Shirley went on to say that if I didn't pick it up soon that they were going to "price it, and sell it to another customer." I couldn't believe my ears!! Very in depth eye exams here! Love the doctors and staff. The pre testing you do with the tech is very in depth. Other offices don't do half of these tests. The doctors really check all areas of your eye health and educated me on proper eye care. The eye care consultants helped select my glasses, really took the time to find what looks best on me and gabe me all my options before leaving. Anytime I have issues with my previous glasses, they are always willing to help too. Costco/other offices don't do this... I really saw the value in my experience at this office. So after living in the East Bay for several years...I am slowly migrating the doc network out from the big City.....I had a hard time letting go, you know, any excuse to head into that "big City".....but the glamour has started to lose its luster....who knows, maybe I truly am a "Country Mouse" ? Despite my moment of self-realization above....Vision Dynamics rocks against all standards - City or Burbs! Dr. Lin (who prefers to go by Amy) has an INCREDIBLE manner with her patients. I had the joy of rolling in here on a Saturday afternoon with two wee ones in tow.....her staff was fully prepared with a bucket of toys and the lure of a Baskin Robbins coupon if they were behaved the entire time. Amy was very thorough in her review of sight (or lack thereof - ack!). She was descriptive in a non-doctor type fashion, yet you left the office feeling you understood what just went down. As for frame selection...this place beats my old place in the City....by a mile! A full selection of the newest Coach, Prada, Dior, LaFont...you name it. Super friendly service in person, however I was told my glasses would come in a couple weeks ago, when they didn't I called Vision Dynamics and they told me they'd check in with the lab and call me right back, then days past and I never got a call back, so I called again. Another person told me the same thing and even confirmed my phone number but never called back. It wasn't until the third time I called that I finally got a call back about the status of my order. I always enjoy my visits to Vision Dynamics. I have consistently received exceptional service - both from the Doctors as well as the office staff. My last visit was with Dr. Lin and she took extra time to walk me through my prescription changes and the overall health of my eyes. Helena spent a lot of time with me (as she always does) helping me to select my glasses. She gives honest feedback on what looks good (and what might look better) and I trust her opinion. Kept walking by this place but had I known everyone was so nice and there was a great selection of glasses, I would have been in earlier. Edit: The problem is the accuracy of the exam/contacts afterwards. The contacts I got weren't the correct strength and instead of the doctor fixing the issue right away, I had to go through a lot of back and forth with the front desk providing me different contact strengths to try out. It was pretty frustrating for them to keep guessing instead of providing me contacts with an accurate prescription. I was finally able to get them to schedule a re-exam with the doctor after a few weeks but it was a lot of hassle for no reason. It was not worth having to pay the high price of both an eye exam and contact consultation (which was never mentioned that it would be an additional price until I went to pay). I have had glasses and contacts for many years and this was the most I have ever paid for an eye exam, not worth it. read more

Our family all wear lenses (four of us have glasses and contacts) and over the many years we have been patients here, we all have experienced outstanding service at each and every visit. I see Dr. Lin and recently ordered a pair of prescription sport sunglasses and absolutely love them. My wife, who has a very difficult to fit astigmatism, had only good experiences with Dr. Yamada and expects the same great service in the future. We always get plenty of trial contacts to test new fitments. They do seem to carry a majority of high end frames and such but this is not a discount optometrist (been to those in the past!) and we have always been able to find the perfect set of designer frames at a reasonable price. Insurance issues can be tricky but the staff always does their best to solve any problems. Rosa is great! We have often dropped in without an appointment with pesky adjustment issues with the kids (in sports) and the staff has always been very friendly offering plenty of assistance and guidance. I got a prescription from them last year and it was so strong that I rarely used the glasses, thankfully I kept my old pair. I am not sure why I went back this year. The visit started off fine, they charged $39 if you don't want to have your eyes dilated, I am not sure if should cost that much but I was on a lunch break for work so I selected it. The assistant who did the initial part of the exam was terrific and initially I thought the doctor was terrific but then as the exam continued I felt like I was getting a bit of a sales pitch on contacts and glasses. What really annoyed me is I paid for my prescription, had to ask for it, and I had not noticed that is said 'to be used at vision dynamics only'. Because I felt like I was getting a sales pitch I went to another place the next day to order the glasses and thankfully they agreed to fill it even though the Visual Dynamics was claiming I could not use it elsewhere. It think this might be a no no with Federal Regulations, you are supposed to receive a prescription and you are not supposed to be required to purchase at that place only. I obviously won't be back. read more

From the reviews it sounds like I am not the first person who had to deal with the infuriating staff. In my opinion they are not competent. I spent multiple visits trying to get the right prescription for my eyes and their team could not figure out how to collaborate with the doctor on this. Every time I called I would have to explain the situation and they would then ask me the same questions the doctor already asked. Instead of listening to what I wanted to do I would waste time answering the staffs questions. Finally I gave up, as I ran out of contacts and they couldn't figure out the multiple conversations I had with them what I wanted to do. It was almost a month after I had my original appt. Feel bad,the doctor was actually nice and I thought she knew what she doing-heard she not there very often anyway. Good luck to anyone who needs to work with them, I am heading to Target Optical in Walnut Creek and or getting my contacts from Costco. read more

I've been going to Vision Dynamics since 1987, when it was Dr. Yamada's practice. Since Dr. Lin bought the practice, it has morphed from a highly professional, non-nonsense, dependable resource into a marketing nightmare, where every service has a charge and the staff appears to be pushing some new service at every turn. And they are high-pressure salespeople--Dr. Lin included. When I got glasses there 3 years ago, they had to be sent back to the lab twice to get the prescription right. This process took more than a month. This time, the prescription was goofed up again, and I'll be waiting at LEAST 4 weeks. That's if they give the lab the correct information for this second attempt. My daughter stopped going to this practice after she was charged for "contact lens fitting" after she had already been wearing contacts for several years. Vision Dynamics is a shame. OK, I'm feeling really old. It's been getting more difficult to focus on things up close, particularly reading. On the spur of the moment a few Saturdays ago, I decided to bite the bullet and see an optometrist. I was able to get an appointment that same day with Dr. Amy Lin, and I had a really good experience. Amy is very warm and personable, and did a great job explaining what was going on with my eyes in language I could understand. At the risk of being accused of "age-ism" I tend to like doctors that are young enough to be up-to-date on the latest research and technology, but old enough to have lots of practical, real-life experience. Amy clearly knows her stuff, and they've got some gagets that excite my inner-geek...the one that took an image of my inner eye was particularly cool. Anyway, the end of the story is that I needed reading glasses, and they hooked me up with a pair that I like and fit my huge head. Very positive experience with Amy and the rest of the staff, and I'll definitely go back again. read more
