Recently I went into Eye Q Optometric with my mangled Ralph Lauren Prescription sunglasses. As I was visiting Danville, I googled eye doctors and found Eye Q. The Doctor attempted to bend the frames back for me which was a near impossibility, but was unable due to the delicacy of the frame. The doctor went above and beyond what he had to do, by looking up the frame on google for me and providing the information I needed to make a purchase of the exact frame which I ended up doing. Although I live in San Mateo which is too far for appointments, I would highly suggest this office for anyone needing service. read more

I had an eye irritation that really bothered me for a couple days so I needed to be seen today. Dr. Tim Tieu was recommended and agreed to see me during his lunch hour. He spent at least 35 minutes with me and was so thorough, professional, and really wonderful. He spent time to investigate and deal with the problem, treated my eyes with drops, and prescribed an over-the-counter medication. He said he has been at this location for 20 years. The best eye doctor I have found to date. Used to go to Costco to get my eye exams and contacts... but decided to try this place out of convenience. The doctor was WONDERFUL, very professional, yet also easy going and easy to talk to. He really spent a lot of time finding me just the right contact prescription and even found a problem with my eyes that other doctors had missed. I felt like it was the most thorough eye exam I have had to date. Ordered my contacts through them and they arrived quickly. I love this guy! Thorough exam, thorough explanation, honest about pricing on contacts and glasses. So honest, in fact, that I will order through him to support his business...even though I could get lenses and glasses cheaper else where. Plus, he talks to you like an adult, explains what he is doing and why, and asks about other healh issues that could affect the eye. I recently got a new prescription for glasses.. So I went to Eye Q Optometric Designs and they were very personable and friendly and I was able to pick out the frames I definitely wanted which were like aviator glasses. When I came back for my glasses I could not see out of them. Even though Dr. Tieu did not prescribe these he took me inside and checked the lenses with the original prescription and then checked my eyes on his equipment. He found that the left eye was a little different and the right eye was totally different than what was prescribed. he then showed me the original lenses in a frame and then had me look through with the new prescription. Wow.. i could actually see. He gave me the options of going back to my Dr. with this one and having my Dr. re-examining me or having him fill it . This entire time he was very friendly, and patient and walked me through every step of what he was doing. I felt so comfortable with him and with the lenses I was looking through that I told him to go ahead with the order. I now have my new glasses, they look great and I can actually see clearly out of both eyes. I would recommend Dr. Timothy Tieu to anyone for exams and for their glasses. I returned to the store to talk to someone about my glasses which I had picked up that were giving me headaches. The receptionist seemed annoyed and didn't even look me in the eye. To boot, she briskly walked away while I was talking to her, which totally bugged!! She consulting with Dr. Tieu, and I was told to wear them for a week. A week!! If I couldn't stand them for 30min, how could I wear them a week? I asked if I could talk to the Dr. and I was told he is very busy and I could try him on another day. It took me 3 days of pestering 2 different receptionists to finally convince the Dr. to check my glasses and prescription. He got the prescription right the second time around - no headaches. I am totally okay with mistakes that get fixed but not with the way I got treated. Service may be good when you open your wallet the first time but certainly not if you have a problem. read more

Dr Lieu is very thorough and good. Very pleasant and friendly. He does very detail retina and other exam. Also, this was the only place so far that gave me an accurate and good insurance detail on my vision. My company had a great plan and I learnt abt it, thanks to EyeQ. Made my decision to see Dr. T based solely on all these other super positive Yelp reviews. Making an appointment was fast and easy, and I was able to go in for an eye exam the same day I called. Dr. Tieu was friendly, caring, efficient, knowledgeable, and professional -- traits that I didn't even know were that important for an eye doctor, but that I later realized make for a great customer experience. I know a little bit about optics and lenses, and Dr. T took the time to explain the physics behind the vision problems I was having, which was very helpful to understand my own eyes. I have been going to Dr. Tieu for over 4 years to provide me both glasses and contacts. My last time there has been a disaster. I won't be going back. To make a long story short my glasses were not made correctly, it took a month to get them back and they still are not correct. But the reason I am writing this review is more to due Dr Tieu's staff's lack of customer service. Here are a few highlights. Each time I would call to check on status they knew nothing and said they would call me back. They would never call me back. I would call back again and they would tell me they would have to call and check on my order the next day. I would call back the next day and they hadn't called for status yet. No one would remember me or what was going on with my glasses (you'd think a small practice with just 2 office support people would remember me when I called). 2 different times I stopped by the office at 5:20 (they close at 5:30). Each time the office was closed with the receptionist inside. When I would knock on the door, she was reluctant to open it. I guess she was more concerned with going home a few minutes early that accommodating a patient. Yesterday, I went to return my glasses that were still not correct. When I arrived, there was a sign on the door that said "be back in 5 minutes" (this was 1:20 p.m.). I waited in the 100 degree heat for 10 minutes and no one ever showed up. Dr. Timothy Tieu is very knowledgeable. But he seems more interested in showing how smart he is than in answering your questions. Also acts impatient to get the exam done fast. His staff promised one price, but he refused to honor it. He could improve by learning to imagine himself as the patient experiencing his brusque manner. Then practicing a more friendly, caring approach. Better staff training on friendliness and on practice details would help too. Also, this is a small store with limited inventory. We walked in and the receptionist completely ignored us until she was done helping an 8-year-old boy try on glasses. I then asked to see Dr. Tieu becaue I had a question about my prescription. She told me that he was not there. When I said I'd come back tomorrow, she actually laughed and told me that he'd be too busy and that there was no point in coming back.
