After going on several food tours in the D.C. area, Virginialicious is the BEST! With the goal of inviting others into Korean culture and food, Mina guides guests to five of her favorite Korean restaurants in Annandale, home to the third largest Korean community in the U.S. Joining her tour on July 13th, here's my experience. 1) Meeting Point: Once you purchase your ticket, you're sent clear instructions on where to meet and how to find Mina. The meeting point is at a large strip mall with a large parking lot. Once you check in, Mina gives you a name tag with your name in Korean. Our group had around 11 people. Once we were all there, Mina introduced herself, the flow of the tour, and asked that we all introduce ourselves briefly and any connection to Korean and Korean food. 2) Tour: It's all walking, but it wasn't that bad. All five restaurants are only a few blocks from each other. Each restaurant had strong AC and kind staff. Each restaurant already had the food ready when we arrived. Mina would do an intro of the food and then we'd dine. Come hungry! Every spot was unique and provided quality food. Two places included beverages and all gave us ice water. Also, Mina is funny! She's such a great tour guide and worthy of a generous tip at the end. 3) Ending: You end where you start with a wrap up and a surprise dessert from Mina. read more

Our 1st time taking the tour and it didn't disappoint! We walked to 5 different restaurants, all fairly close together and with a wide variety of authentic Korean food at each place. The tour guide Sun Gi, was awesome! Very knowledgeable native Korean lady who shared interesting facts about Korean culture all along the tour. At each stop our food was hot and ready as well as delicious . We tried bulgogi, tofu soup with beef, kimpop, Korean friend chicken, jajang myun and many others but have forgotten the names of the dishes. The rice noodles were amazing too. A group of 6 of us joined SuJin and 4 others for the Korean Food Tour in Annandale. Several were motivated by their love of KDramas and the food that seems to be a part in each. SuJin was a great guide. She informed us on historical and geographical differences on the foods we were tasting. She safely shepherded the group through Annandale traffic to 5 locations with different delicious food styles. Everything was great and different from what I might chosen without her guidance. Delightful. The minimal distance walking tour includes 5 different restaurants with 5 different specialties. My favorite was possibly the seafood pancake, which I've had before at other restaurants, but this one KNOCKED IT OUT THE PARK. My sub-group of 6 all agreed that this dish was one of our favorites on the tour. It was somehow pillowy and crispy at the same time. Gah. Second favorite was a grilled pork, I'm likely going to make a trip back to Annandale for these two places. The pacing of the tour is really good, you aren't rushed to eat, but you also don't sit around waiting for the next thing AND you learn about Korean food and culture the whole time. A fun thing about a tour like this, is that you get to try foods you wouldn't think to order for yourself, but even my 'meat and potatoes' dad was raving about many of the dishes. I went on the walking Korean Food Tour last month with my husband, his brother and my sister-in-law, my brother and his partner, our niece and her partner. We had the most fabulous time! Wow.. I had an absolute blast on this tour! I've had Korean bbq and some other Korean food here and there before, but Mina seriously brought the vibes with some unique finds (all local family owned restaurants-- major plus) and awesome stories (she is legit and have actually lived in Korea and is so knowledgeable!!) My friend and I had SUCH A GREAT time on this tour of Koreatown in Annandale with Virginialicious!! Loved that we were able to try out 5 restaurants. We walked after having a great taste, not too big, not too small, of Korean cuisine at each restaurant. The walks were 5-10 minutes max and it was a great way to work off some of the calories we just ate, LOL. At least that's what I told myself, lol. Our tour guide, Sujin, was AMAZING. So sweet, accommodating, patient, and so knowledgeable. We learned about Korean history and culture and even learned a couple of drinking games. By the end of the tour, we were very full but I made sure to order some Korean fried chicken from Pelicana, the last stop, to bring home to my boy friend. We plan to visit Pelicana soon. Virginialicious even sent all of us home with a delicious free gift for dessert. The whole experience was well curated and planned and they even donate a portion of their proceeds to a food bank. Annandale, VA is known for its large Korean community and a plethora of mom & pop Korean restaurants. Sadly, I don't know much about Korean cuisine, so my friends and I signed up for this food tour. We went on a Saturday afternoon and it was, as advertised, 3 hours (2pm-5pm). We visited 5 restaurants within a 2-3 block radius and tried a variety of dishes. Each was wonderful - and now want to go back to these restaurants and sample their other fare. I think our group's size was 10 people, plus our guide Mina. Mina was great too - raised in South Korea, but has been in the northern VA area now a number of years - friendly and able to link the food we were trying to stories of how it figured into a normal Korean life / culture. Great value for the price - and we were completely full too! Note - you do walk to each restaurant, so just be prepared for that - but they are not very far from each other and it gives you time to make room for the next bite! read more

Outstanding way to spend a Saturday afternoon - wide variety of Korean cuisines, 5 distinct restaurants, good explanations of the various dishes and their origins and cultural roles. Guide (Susan) was knowledgable, fun and managed to keep the group moving at a good pace among the 5 restaurants. The dishes were varied but as others have said the "seafood pancake" stood out for me.
