This is clearly a Water Taxi

I booked the Potomac Cruise Experience in Washington, DC for 13 family members to celebrate my daughter's Medical School graduation, and unfortunately it was a huge disappointment. However, the actual experience did not match what was advertised or what we paid for. We were told we would be on a double-decker sightseeing cruise with narration highlighting the national monuments and landmarks along the Potomac. Instead, our family was placed on what was essentially a Water Taxi with no narration. The experience we received appeared to be the same type of ride that typically costs around $15-$20, yet we paid about $30 per person expecting a true sightseeing cruise experience. With a group of 13 people, including seniors, this was especially frustrating. The limited outside deck area was extremely small, and our family had to squeeze together just to take a graduation group photo. Boarding was also very difficult for some of our elderly family members, and the vessel did not feel ADA-friendly or accessible. To make matters worse, when we arrived at The Wharf, we actually saw the double-decker sightseeing boats that had been advertised -- just not the one we were placed on. That was incredibly disappointing after planning this as part of such an important family celebration. This was not the graduation experience I expected or paid for.

I recently went on the Holiday Dinner Cruise with City Cruises in DC, and it was such a unique and memorable seasonal experience. If you're looking for something festive that shows off DC in a completely different way, this is worth considering. Food and Drinks They offer a holiday dinner menu that may shift depending on whether you go around Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year's. Here's what I tried: Blue Crab and Potato Chowder Very good, rich, and comforting on a cold night. Pan-Seared Chicken Breast Also very good. The mambo sauce, a true DC tradition, absolutely slapped. Orange Olive Oil Cake I am usually not an orange dessert person, but I love olive oil cake, and they did a great job with this. Light and flavorful without being overpoweringly citrusy. Before we set sail, I had the chance to try shrimp wontons and mini beef Wellington bites. I was with a special group, so I don't know if these are typically offered and I wouldn't count on it being a standard part of the experience. The bar selection on board was also very good and had plenty of options. To set expectations, this is not meant to be a fine-dining, award-winning chef situation, though the food is solid and enjoyable. You are not going on this cruise primarily for the food. Atmosphere and Experience The real highlight is the atmosphere. The views of DC at night from the water are stunning, with monuments and bridges lit up around you. It feels festive, peaceful, and special, especially during the holiday season. This is a great option if you have family visiting or you just want to do something unique for the holidays. It's a fun change of pace from the usual seasonal activities and a memorable way to enjoy the city. Overall Good food, great drinks, and truly incredible nighttime views of DC. I highly recommend this experience if you're looking for something different to do during the holidays.

My family had an excellent time on our Father's Day cruise! I would say for the price this is a fair experience to have. We were supposed to cruise on the spirit, but there wasn't enough people for that boat so they combined our party with the odyssey ship. The ship is supposed to start checking in 45 minutes early, but our check-in started a little late which resulted in the ship taking off about 15 minutes late. My husband and I got on the boat last and it was a little chaotic with the seat arrangement even though the ship wasn't completely full, but it's fine because we were still quickly seated. The mimosas were flowing the entire cruise and we were able to get a lot of food. There were three different types of salad, breakfast eggs, sausage, bacon, French toast, salmon, boneless chicken thighs, beef cut, and chicken tenders and french fries for the kids. There were tons of desserts and fresh fruit. Everything tasted so delicious! The DJ was cool! He played all of the line dances lol the staff was so amazing. They ended up teaching a lot of the dance moves for everyone to learn. The staff on board was just so exceptionally kind, helpful, and very genuine. Our server even offered to watch our baby so me and my husband could enjoy a dance together. Her name is Candace and she is so so so so great!!!!!! Our cruise was a total of two hours and we got to hang out when it docked at the end for another 10 minutes. Probably because they started late. It was a great time and the sites were amazing. I think my only complaint would be I wish they would bring out food refills at the buffet quicker because by the time I got in line, some stuff was missing that I wanted and I had to wait a while to get it like salad.

We did the basic sightseeing cruise leaving out of Alexandria, VA., on a Sunday afternoon. I found a Groupon for the cruise so the price was great. The narrated information about what we were seeing was loud enough to understand most of the time. It's a great way to see the sites of Washington, D.C., from another angle. The service was great with all questions being answered about where things were on the boat. We were on the top deck and all passengers up there must come down before the boat goes under the bridges. The narration was kept fun and educational as we made our way to the harbor.

So much fun! We had about little over 60 friends and family join us for the 4th of July!

Such an amazing and memorable experience! We chose City Cruises to celebrate our retirement in style. Our guests loved every second aboard the beautiful National Elite yacht. The service and food were impeccable. The wait staff were all gracious and super friendly which made for an absolutely lovely adventure! Would recommend them in a heartbeat to anyone. If I had more thumbs I'd rate more than two thumbs up!

We did the premier bottomless brunch cruise and had a blast! We ended up arriving a bit before boarding time and I'm glad we did. The line started getting very long, and upon us getting on board we realized they immediately start the food buffet prior to the cruise taking off. This meant we were one of the first tables to be called to get food. They also kept the drinks flowing and the music was great. It is a very lively atmosphere and if you get tired of the music you can walk along the boat deck and enjoy the weather and view. This is definitely a fun activity to do on a nice weather day.

    Salmon and chicken lunch entrees

Went on this plated lunch cruise with my mom while she was in town. It was overall a nice random getaway from the house. The ship was nowhere near even half full but there were plenty of staff to support and serve us. We were able to get a window seat luckily. The DJ was nice and pretty hype, and played the oldies and line dances as if you were at an American wedding. The scenery wasn't fantastic but I liked that the DJ also served as pseudo tour guide and pointed things out on the left and right. Loved the glass ceiling and all around windows that allowed a lot of light in without having to leave the cool of the air conditioning. It was too hot to hang out on the outside, but I liked the option. The food was ok, a lot of the items didn't match the menu description. The salad with arugula and strawberries was pretty good, refreshing and light for summer. The soup was on the salty side but also good with a few shrimps in it; I don't remember a feta mousse. The mains were not impressive... Chicken and salmon were both dry and pretty overcooked. The vegetables were scarce, and sauce was meh for both. I think the salmon was supposed to come with succotash and potatoes but you can see that the vegetables were almost non-existent and there were no potatoes that I could recall or see in the picture. The desserts were the stars. The chocolate cake was not too sweet and I loved the crunchy cookie crust - I didn't taste the Kahlua if there was any (which I don't mind). The basque cheesecake was good too -- the blueberries were not macerated and there was no chocolate sauce or vanilla bean sauce, so there's a menu discrepancy or something... But overall we enjoyed both desserts. I think it's a steal to go on a 2hr cruise and get a meal for ~$60pp including tip (we had a discount), and I'd still do the $80ish full price if I had a group celebration or if I had visitors in town. It really is a nice way to spend a few hours in the day, we had a good time -- you just can't expect too much on the meal.

We booked the Odyssey Bottomless Mimosa Brunch for our Class Reunion! Let's start with the cost. The cruise was reasonably priced for all the mimosas you could drink. The brunch included a variety of food such as eggs, potatoes, french toast, bacon, sausage, fruit, salad, etc. The food was decent and there were enough options for all dietary restrictions. The service was impeccable. The gentleman assigned to our group kept the drinks flowing and did his best to accommodate all of our requests. I would recommend bringing cash to tip the waitstaff because they go above and beyond. The ambiance was nice. The DJ played a variety of music and it was high energy the entire time. After eating you have the opportunity to get on the dance floor and explore the ship. Now, one huge issue was the glass ceilings and lack of air! As the ship sailed the temperature rose and we had zero defense against the beaming hot sun. We literally felt like we were melting. People started to create paper fans out of the menus and that wasn't enough. We tried to go outside to catch a breeze and there was nothing stirring on the water. We were sweating profusely for well over 30mins. It might have been a combination of champagne and sunshine. I would recommend this cruise in the fall or winter. It could truly be a great experience if it wasn't too hot. Also, several of the people in my group wanted the buffet to stay up a little longer, but I know they took it down because it sat near the dance floor.

My family and I decided to cruise with Odyssey for my bridal weekend. For $160 per person, I would have expected to receive Michelin Star quality food. The vessel looks nice from the outside. The cruise itself was lovely, and we actually sailed over to the National Harbor. The views of the historic DC landscape from the water was stunning. Some room for improvement would be the temperature of the food. Majority of my party said their food was lukewarm. The drinks were $20 a pop, and the alcohol was absent. The DJ played a few upbeat tracks, but I would have preferred a wider variety of rap, hip hop, & R&B. The service was good & everyone I encountered was friendly. Hopefully they improve the food & cocktail program in the future!

We did the City Cruises as an an opportunity for restaurant week. Having been on one before let's just say, you're goin for the cruise itself, not the food. The bread was fine, salad was plain, but my gnocchi was really good. The food was not hot but warm. The dessert buffet was alright, general cafeteria food. Definitely the point is to be outside to get views and I was sad we didn't cruise Georgetown like we had before. I think this is great as a one time thing with out of town guests during the summer or great for something like restaurant week.

We saw City Cruises as an option for DC restaurant week, so you know we had to go! We arrived about 30 minutes before the cruise started and we were seated right away. We got a bread basket and then our appetizer salad. The salad was a little sad, it could have used more toppings. We then got to order our entrees and drinks. The included drinks are coffee and tea. For the price, I wish we got one soda or alcohol beverage. While we waited for our food, we got to stand on the outside of the ship. The outside of the ship has a deck that you can walk around and look at the view. When we got back inside and they had set out our food. They left lids on the food to keep it warm, which was appreciated. I got the salmon and it was very good. Around this time they had a DJ that started playing more party music. We danced some and then went back outside. They then have a dessert buffet with peach cobbler, different cheesecakes and fruit. The cruise experience took a bit over 2 hours. We parked at a garage at the wharf and it was $37, so I'd recommend taking the metro. I enjoyed watching the skyline, though we were a bit bummed that the ship turned before we got to see the Kennedy center or Georgetown. I would recommend everyone see DC from the water, it is definitely a bucket list experience.

Many thanks to the hardworking staff who assisted our tour group of 110 on the evening of March 1, 2025. Karen (server), Luis and Ephram (server assistants) were so attentive to our tour group's needs. Appologies for my forgetting to get the DJ and food runner's names. The students had a blast! A special thanks to Vin for his guiding assistance in leading us back to our two motorcoaches post-cruise

From the wharf, we are able to take water taxis to Mount Vernon, Alexandria and Georgetown. There are one way tickets and round-trip tickets available for the water taxi. The taxis travel during the day and in the evening, but they do not go to downtown Washington DC near the monuments. The sightseeing cruises leave from the wharf and pass the monuments along the Potomac with views of the Lincoln Memorial, the George Washington Memorial.... There are one hour and two hours sightseeing cruises, but none of them are at Sunset. The last ride is at 4:30. They offer round-trip cruise with three hours to explore George Washington's Mount Vernon Garden and estate.

You can sit either indoor or outdoor on the Boat. If you are indoor, remember to wear a mask. There is also a bathroom on the boat, as well as a snack counter. This is a fun experience for out-of-towners, but also something that took me quite a while to try as a local! Definitely a great experience to take a day trip to Mt. Vernon this way, which is what I did. Pros: Easy to find: The boat is bright yellow and says "water taxi" in black letters on it. It is impossible to miss it, I would think! Very helpful for the directionally challenged! I boarded at the Wharf, but I know that there are numerous stops. Quick Onboarding: Getting on-board was a very quick process. It is advised by the company that you arrive 15 minutes early, and I can see why, because the water taxi quickly boarded folks and took off punctually. I was able to book the trip online, and received a QR code, which I showed to a man with a scanner who was boarding people on the boat. Sooth trip: Overall, the trip was very calm and smooth. We made good speed, but nothing super fast, as there were many paddle boarders and kayakers on the water. I am sure that the bumpiness or smoothness of the ride is largely out of anyone's control, and more dependent on the weather, but my ride sure was relaxing! Fun facts, but not too many!: As you make your way on the water, the speaker shares a few fun facts about buildings that you pass, and some history on the land you see. I thought that the amount of information provided was good-- enough for me to learn something new, but not annoying or nonstop. Space: The water taxi that I boarded, which left around 8:30, was crowded but not overwhelmingly so. I actually found a spot near the bottom entrance of the boat, which was a pretty unique place to sit, and extremely comfy! No one else was really too close to me aside from the friend I traveled with, so I felt I had good space! Transport to fun places!: I took the water taxi from the DC Wharf, to Mt. Vernon-- the trip was about 80 minutes each way, and made stops all along the way. I could have also gotten off in Old Town, Alexandria, for example! This is a unique way of visiting these spots for a reasonable price. For what it's worth, Mt. Vernon was awesome too! Cons: - The confirmation emails that I received after booking online were a bit confusing, just in how they were organized and worded. As I read the email, it seemed that it was listing my initial departure time incorrectly. Eventually I figured out what the email intended to say, and was able to access my QR code, but I did have a little initial confusion there.

Definitely a must! We rented the entire boat for my friend's birthday and had a blast. Two hours…read morewas just enough time to see all the quintessential DC landmarks (and even planes from DCA!) The crew was phenomenal and the water was actually pretty cool. I'm definitely booking this again.

My partner and I booked the "DC | The Ultimate VIP Date Night Package: Private Hot Tub Cruise for…read moreTwo" for our anniversary, trusting the explicit promises of a private, exclusive, and romantic experience. The reality, however, was a masterclass in deceptive marketing and a complete failure to deliver on the core tenets of the purchased package. While the on-site staff were professional and understanding, the business practices of SeaTheCity, under its owner Adam Schwartz, are profoundly misleading and warrant serious scrutiny from both consumers and regulatory bodies. Our expectation of privacy was not a mere assumption; it was a guarantee cemented by the company's own marketing language. The booking page for our "VIP Date Night Package" unequivocally states: "Private luxury Hot Tub for two - No sharing, just you and your special someone." "Group size Date Night Package is Limited to Only 2 People." "Set sail on your own VIP hot-tub boat." "...your private Washington D.C. escape." These are not ambiguous statements. They are direct, material promises that form the basis of the purchase. The phrase "Limited to Only 2 People" and the explicit "No sharing" clause leave no room for interpretation: the experience sold is for one couple, and one couple alone. Upon arriving an hour early, as instructed, we were informed by the crew that we were waiting for "the other couple" to arrive. This was not a private charter; it was a shared excursion. The very foundation of the "Ultimate VIP Date Night" was a fabrication. To be clear, the package we purchased was being sold to multiple couples on the same vessel, at the same time. The crew, to their credit, acknowledged the misleading nature of the company's advertising. While we were eventually issued a full refund, this gesture fails to remedy the situation. A refund does not compensate for the ancillary costs of transportation, the time wasted, the meticulous planning for a special occasion, or the profound disappointment of having a long-anticipated anniversary celebration collapse at the dock due to the company's duplicity. This is not a simple case of miscommunication; it is a textbook example of false advertising. From a legal standpoint, SeaTheCity's practices are deeply concerning and expose the business to significant liability. To the attention of SeaTheCity management and its owner, Adam Schwartz: Your marketing materials constitute a legally binding offer, and your failure to provide the advertised service is a breach of contract. Furthermore, your advertising practices fall squarely within the purview of deceptive trade practices as defined by federal and state law. Material Misrepresentation: Under consumer protection laws, including the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Act and D.C.'s corresponding consumer protection statutes, an advertisement is deceptive if it contains a representation that is likely to mislead a reasonable consumer and is "material" to their decision. The promise of a private, exclusive boat for two is not a minor detail; it is the central, defining feature of a "VIP Date Night Package." Your representations are therefore unequivocally material. Reasonable Reliance: A reasonable consumer purchasing a product advertised with phrases like "Private...for two," "No sharing," and "Group size...Limited to Only 2 People" will naturally and justifiably rely on these statements. You are cultivating an expectation of exclusivity that you knowingly fail to meet. Bait-and-Switch Tactics: This practice borders on a classic bait-and-switch, where customers are lured in by an attractive offer (a private cruise) that is not actually available as advertised, and are then presented with a lesser-quality substitute (a shared cruise). The fact that other couples are booked onto what is sold as a "Private" package for two is a willful misrepresentation. Continuing this practice exposes your company to potential legal action from consumers, class-action lawsuits, and investigation by the D.C. Attorney General's office for unfair and deceptive trade practices. The civil penalties and damage to your brand's reputation would far exceed any marginal profit gained from this deceptive booking strategy. This review serves as a stern warning to future customers: scrutinize every claim made by this company and do not expect to receive the private experience you are sold. And to the ownership of SeaTheCity: I strongly advise you to consult with legal counsel and immediately rectify your advertising and operational models to align with ethical standards and the law. Your current approach is not just a disservice to your customers; it is an unsustainable and legally perilous way to conduct business.

I recommend the breakfast option if you have a good appetite and it's a good deal. Mount Vernon has a food court and restaurant in their visitor center, but nothing special. The $50 includes the round trip ferry cruise, admission and mansion tour of Mount Vernon. The cruise leaves at 8:30a and takes 1.5 hours to reach Mount Vernon as it passes through the Potomac River. Throughout the ride, there is some commentary about some sites we pass by. You arrive at Mount Vernon at 10a and have to meet back at the port by 1:15p, leave by 1:30p and return back to DC by 3:00p. I thought it was a good amount of time to tour the mansion and explore Mount Vernon grounds, along with the visitor center that has a George Washington exhibit. Highly recommend the Spirit cruise!

Taking a tour bus cost roughly $100, and this was only $45 regular price- I was able to get a promo code online which made it about $40. You have to pick up your paper tickets at the dock before you board around 815. Then you set sail around 830 and arrive at mount Vernon at approx 1000 am It's about a half mile up to the house from the docks, but there's stuff to see along the way. You can also catch a shuttle that runs every so often. You get about 3.5 hours on the grounds to explore. I've heard some people say this isnt enough time - I can kind of see where they are coming from. Mount Vernon is huge! But for me personally, I felt it was enough time to hit the high lights. They served food (I had a breakfast sandwich) and drinks (including alcohol) on the boat for a fee. My coffee and sandwich was under $5 which seemed very fair. The bottom two decks are enclosed and the top is open - view from the open top deck is worth it. you pass lots of sights like national harbor, fort Washington, Alexandria, etc I went more towards the off season so in summer I can see it being packed. In fall it was not so busy that you felt crowded but not so empty that it felt weird. The boat leaves from 600 water st. I highly recommend!

The boats have Bluetooth capabilities so bring your phone and connectors. Life jackets are required and depending on your time slot you'll have a good amount of time to go out and come back. Steering can be a little slow so as the driver you have to be aware of your surrounds and abide by boat etiquette. If you've never steered a motor or sail boat before you may want to take a lesson or hire a captain. Handling the boat in rough water would be difficult without sone experience. All in all we had a really great time and I'd rent again but do a longer session so we can go further down the canal. Definitely recommend for all my water enthusiasts.

I booked on Father's Day and there was a lot of double and triple bookings that took place which turned my 2-hr 1:30 booking into a 2-hr 2:15 booking. I had baby boomers in my party so explaining what was going on to them became a little tedious. Even with that hiccup, Benny & Vusi still delivered great customer service, they were helpful in instructing us how to use the boat, as well as personable and professional. Once on the water, I truly no longer cared about the scheduling situation. With that said, I will very much likely be back.
