My tour was 5:30 Sat Aug 3. Our guide Riley and Driver Bryan were awesome. The whole group was present and we were picked up right on schedule and at our 1st brewery DC Brau in record time. I booked a tour for my boyfriend's birthday and we had an awesome time. Our tour guide was Isaac, who was super informative and funny and was able to impart some beer knowledge onto us. We had a full van and by the end of it all bonded with the other guests, which was cool. We went to 4 different breweries, my favorites being Port City House and Right Proper (they have a brewery cat that lives there!) but enjoyed all of the stops. The "lunch" was actually more filling than what I was anticipating from reading the reviews on here. It wasn't gourmet food by any means, but I didn't leave there starving. We had pretzel bits, quesadilla, a few wings, a fried mac and cheese ball and small salad, because you know, health. Overall, I loved the tour and it was a great introduction to the city and its brews. read more

Steve was our guide for a Friday 'Sip of DC' tour. Bottom line: this was absolutely worth the price. I thought I knew the breweries in DC, and found a couple I didn't know about. I also learned about beer history (didn't know much about it) and the brewing process (know a little bit about it, but not super interested in it...but hey, you're sipping beers as they talk brewing process, so it makes it 'palatable'...I'll see myself out after a few more words) Not every beer is going to hit with everyone, simply because everyone has different palates and preferences. If you go in with an open mind and an adventurous spirit, you'll enjoy it. Get to know your driver, and your fellow passengers, and fun will happen. I found beers whose styles I rather dislike, but which surprised me with how good they were. Credit here goes to Steve, who's a Level 2 Cicerone. Took a four brewery DC tour with Isaac B, and it was first class all the way. Isaac's local knowledge about breweries, the brewing process, grist, fermentation - it was outstanding. Isaac is an encyclopedia of brewing information. The beer and food pairing was amazing, and the other folks on the tour made the experience that much more memorable. Definitely recommend five stars for the service, beer selection, and overall friendliness in an era where it feels like good service is a thing of the past. Super fun!! That's how I would describe our Sip of DC tour....aaaand I was able to learn a few things I didn't know about beer. We were supposed to do the tour in 2020, right as Covid hit so we've been waiting over 2 years. So glad we finally got the chance! But anyway...we went to 3 different breweries and each them had their own unique feel. I was expecting wine tasting type pours, but each of the sample pours were plentiful. The guides choose great samples for us to try based on what we told them we liked. Which brings me to a special shout-out to Jaime, the Beer Guide, and Nick, the soon-to-be Beer guide. They were both absolutely amazing!!! Very knowledgeable about beer and its history, I appreciated that. Thoroughly enjoyed the evening brewery tour hosted by Barry. We visited 4 very different types of breweries and sampled 17 different craft beers. Barry's knowledge about all aspects of the process and his love of beer really made this trip great for me. Tip - for folks who don't drink 5-6 glasses of beer in a night on a regular basis, make sure you eat some food beforehand and along the way. Whenever I'm going on vacation somewhere, I'll often look for some local breweries to visit. Ok, fine, it's usually the backbone of any trip I'm planning. Now you know all my secrets of trip planning. As with many major cities, the space for brewing in the city proper is super expensive and you'll find most of the breweries a bit outside the city. Such is the case with DC and I can say I definitely would not have visited most of the places we stopped if I hadn't gone on the tour. Our first stop was Hellbender Brewing Company, where we sampled their beer and our tour guide brought us into the brewery to talk about the brewing process and special equipment Hellbender uses. The second stop was at DC Brau, for more beer samples (we were able to choose from their tap list) and another behind the scenes tour from our guide. If they have their Corruption Nitro when you're there, I'd highly recommend giving it a try. Our next stop was at Brookland Pint - not a brewery, but a great craft beer bar. Here, we were given a few samples and then had the ability to order any other tasters we wanted while having our dinner (chicken wings, salad, quesadilla). Our final stop was DC Chop House back in DC, where our tour guide left our group after showing us the brewing operation there and letting us sample some beer. It was a totally enjoyable evening and I never would have made it to Hellbender or DC Brau otherwise (as I was sticking with public transportation on this trip). I got to try some local beer at Brookland, but was a little disappointed it was just a craft beer bar and not an actual brewery. I was also disappointed that the itinerary for the evening wasn't released ahead of time, which I understand DC Brew Tours may not be able to do because of arrangements with the different breweries; we ate dinner and did a full sampler at DC Chop House the night before and would have chosen somewhere else had we known it was going to be one of our stops for that evening. On other brewery tours, we've been able to hear a little bit from the brewers at different locations and our guide was 100% knowledgeable and entertaining - but I do kind of wish we had heard from *one* brewer at one of the tour stops (another thing that just may not be possible with scheduling/staffing). I think my last suggestion would be for DC Brew Tours to consider doing hotel drop offs at the end of the tour - it's something I would have gladly paid extra for (especially not knowing the final location ahead of time). So, all nit-picky "I wish" kinds of things add up to make this a four star review instead of five. This is a great tour if you want to try some of the farther afield brewery options in the DC area without worrying about driving or spending half the day on public transportation. For lovers of craft beer and breweries, I couldn't recommend this more. It was exactly as advertised (maybe even more). We have been on a number of food/beer tours, and this one might just be my favorite. We visited 3 different breweries, all very unique and interesting. At each stop, they lined up 3-4 healthy sample pours of some very tasty beers. At one of the stops a brewmaster chatted us up with some fun tidbits about their business. And at another we munched on some top notch grub. But the best part of the experience was that we were shuttled from place to place in a comfy and very clean van, driven by our fantastic tour guide Seamus! He was full of both beverage and DC trivia, and he made the trip one to remember. A good time was truly had by all. read more

My wife and I booked an After Hours DC Brew Tour for our trip to Washington, DC. Tour started during peak hour traffic, so some slowdown was to be expected. I definitely appreciated that we were notified of the situation ahead of time, and picked up very shortly afterwards. We drove in a comfortable van with about ten other folks. Our driver, Isaac, was a friendly, knowledgeable, and funny individual. He took us to all four breweries on our tour, gave us a general history of the location we were visiting, and described to us any pertinent items of interest. Again, he was very thorough when it came to discussing specific beers we were tasting. All four stops had different atmospheres, ranging from very small operations to more pub/restaurant-style settings. It was great to have this level of variety within the one trip. Of course, while not every beer was a winner, there was definitely enough to enjoy by the time the night was over. We'd definitely do it again and recommend it. read more

He was funny and tailored some tastings to our personal favorite styles. The tour itself was awesome. I was expecting to just do tasting but I got a behind the scenes look at some awesome breweries. Beer: Good Food: Good Tour: The guide was extremely knowledgeable but too soft spoken. The tour seemed to have a bad set up (too loud in the breweries) to hear all of the fun facts that Liz was spewing out at us. They provide us beer from a pitcher that gets split between each of the guests which gives an illusion that some guests are getting more bang for their buck. Price: For the amount of money the tour costs, we were surprised to reuse the same beer glasses at each stop. This was really unfortunate when you got a beer that you hated. There was a lot of chugging involved to choke down a beer just to try something better and still struggle with the residue of the beer right before. We knew we were bound to find a beer we didn't like but we didn't know we'd have to choke it down. It was unfortunate that the whole group felt this way. Not being forced to reuse cups would have been a great remedy and much appreciated. After mentioning this in a review of the tour, the manager said you could have asked to get the cups washed out which would have been nice to know before hand as the impression we got was to finish the beer or don't get anymore. It was a decent experience because of the beer and the company but I can't honestly say that I would recommend the tour anytime soon, especially at $95 a person. You're better spent trying out some beer joints on your own. At least until this beer tour gets itself a little more situated. read more

A 5 hours tour of some of the nicest breweries in Virginia and Washington DC. Our driver and beer guide Max was very nice and kind. He drove 8 of us in a van and immediately started a conversation to break the ice. I was with my boyfriend but even for singles it would be a great chance to make new friends and get to know people. The best brewery we visited was Port City in Alexandria. The tour in general consists in visiting the breweries, learning more about the brewing process and production, and of course beer tasting. Tour canceled twice! Didn't get to go. I booked the Sip of DC Tour two months in advance of our trip to DC. We booked for a Sunday evening. Two days prior to the tour, I received a call from the company. They did not have enough people to proceed with our tour and could I move to another day? I asked about moving to Monday. No, there were not enough people for Monday, either. I was asked to move it to Wednesday night. We had plans to get up early Thursday morning to go to Baltimore, so I wasn't wild about Wednesday night, but we still really wanted to do the tour, so we decided to move our plans around . I should add that when we were moved to Wednesday night, this was for a longer and more expensive tour. We were not charged for the upgrade, which was nice, and is why they received one star. So, on Wednesday (the day of the tour) at 12 noon, I receive a call from DC Brew Tours. Our tour was canceled due to a medical emergency. I said I was sorry for whoever had experienced the emergency but they didn't have a back up plan if somebody was sick or had to call in? I was informed that they attempted to secure another guide but were unable to. We were asked about rescheduling again. I brought up Thursday. No, that was not an option as they were not able to secure another guide by then. Could I do Friday? I explained we had an early morning flight on Saturday, so we decided that was not a good idea and we were offered a refund at this point. The gentleman I spoke to on the phone was very polite but not especially apologetic about the situation. I get that unexpected things happen in business, but why not say, "Hey, I am really sorry you were canceled twice. We get that you are here from out of town and want to make sure you do not miss the tour. Is there some way we can make this happen?" I understand they have a schedule but once you are canceled twice, on short notice, maybe try to be a bit more accommodating? In closing, I see this company has received many good reviews and its unfortunate we were not able to go. Based upon my experience, this tour may be a better idea for area residents who are able to reschedule to another day and time on short notice (much like flying stand by). But for tourists this tour is not a good idea. People make reservations and plans for other things, while in town, and if you are canceled on short notice, it may be difficult to find another date they offer you. I don't know, something really seemed off about the whole situation. It is not unusual for people to get sick or for kids to get sick. I found it strange that there was no back up system in place , should a guide be unable to make it. I also found it strange that the owner, who takes time to respond to every review, did not try to reach out or offer a simple apology. read more
