Unforunately, we did not see any ghosts, BUT this was still a super fun tour and I would definitely do another one! Our guide was engaging and very knowledgeable. Since all the museums are closed at night, this is a fun night time activity if you prefer not to go bar hopping instead. I would say PG-13 for the tour because I would think younger children would get scared at the ghost stories. It's an interesting way to hear about the local history that the museums don't feature and get a nice night stroll at the same time. We went in November, so I would suggest to wear something warm because when you stop walking, it gets pretty cold. Terrible. Boring. Our guide was inexperienced. It was not exciting. You should expect to walk around a few blocks while other people walk and scooter by yelling. You never go inside any buildings. Anyone could give this "ghost tour" by charging people to walk around few blocks telling old history stories. The EMF is bunk. All of the right ingredients were there for this to be one of the best tours ever. We walked past amazing sites rich with US history and drama. Yet, the tour guide could not deliver a story in an interesting and engaging manner. At no point did her stories draw me in or capture my attention. My family was completely bored. I did learn a little about US history but that was not the point of the tour. In multiple cases the guide told a story as she flipped through her phone looking for a related picture -- boring! This isn't some tour for people who want cheap scares and costumed employees jumping out at you. This tour is for people who are interested in the dark history behind one of the supposedly most haunted places in America --- Lafayette Square. Think of this as a story-telling tour during which you get to see the White House, St. John's John's Church, and the Hay-Adams hotel, among other things. You get a deep history (each fact is corroborated by at least three independent sources, and many of these sources can be found in the Library of Congress in the way of diaries, journals, or letters from the people involved), full of betrayal, sordid romance, insanity, suicide, duels, tragedy, and death. The tour guides are the only ones that show up dressed in full Victorian garb, and they are very good story-tellers. They encourage you to be skeptical of the ghost stories, but that's what makes it all the creepier. Sometimes, touring guests actually seem to catch unexplainable or interesting flashes of ... something ... on their cameras, and everyone crowds around to look. Several owners who bring their dogs testify that their dogs act strangely, either more aggressively or nervously. It's a great tour, great fun, and a very interesting learning experience if you want to know more about DC. I definitely recommend it!! DC Ghost Tours is a fun and unusual way to spend an evening, especially around Halloween. The Lafayette Square tour had minimal walking-- basically from one side of the park to the other. At about six landmarks and buildings around the square, our guide told us a story about its history, which (obviously) had some spooky elements. Suicide, murders, affairs-- Lafayette Square has a rich history and (allegedly) many ghost sightings. Some stories were more engaging than others, but none too scary for kids. DC Ghost Tour was 90 minutes well spent. I enjoyed learning about DC history and Lafayette Square sites. Who knows........ maybe you'll spot an orb! Or the ghost of Abe Lincoln! read more

Well originally we had purchased tickets for the Lafayette tour which 3 hours before became cancelled because the tour guide became ill. After reading the descriptions online the Lafayette tour is the one my friend and I really wanted to go on-so that was the first letdown. The company did leave me a message and offered me the Capitol tour or a refund in the ticket price also the tour was 1 hour later, my friend and I were pretty planned so we took him up on going on the Capitol tour which was second letdown. When I called him back he seemed a little curt and rude (uhm sir your inconveniencing me-not the other way around). So we go to the meeting place they ask you to meet 15 minutes prior to the tour actually starting. So my friend and I are right on time because when you are going in a group you want to respect everyone's time...well we sign in and we wait for other people to come and when these other guests come some of them are not on the list (they haven't paid yet or reserved tickets)...so our tour guide has them call their office to pay so needless to say we started LATE and after she does start and tells us what we are going to do on the tour she keeps on getting phone calls from the company and is interrupted. I also hate that she asks for gratuities...she was like if you liked the tour and you want to contribute to....insert name here....retirement fund I am able to accept gratuities. So finally we are moving-our tour guide while a little odd and goofy did know a lot of information it was more historical rather than spooky or scary. Much of the history that she was talking about came right off the History Channel and the spooky parts were very short and not well told. During the walk she found someone that was near her hometown and that is all she could talk about with these individuals, she didn't do a good job of bring people into the fold. The walk was short and sweet so while there was a little walking it wasn't so much where someone elderly or a small child couldn't handle it. Bring a camera to take pictures of some of the landmarks at night...you go to the Folger Library, the Supreme Court, the Capitol building the front and the back-like I said not a lot of buildings. We spent the largest chunk of time at the Capitol building. She was talking about the DC the demon cat and when she was telling she was stating why they had cats at the Capitol Building is because the people who were coming to the Capitol Building were just eating their McDonalds...then she realized what she said and said 'sorry I realize they didn't have McDonalds back in those days'...yeah lady we recognized it too. I wouldn't recommend the Capitol Tour to anyone but maybe next time I'll try the Layette tour perhaps with a different and better tour guide it would be more educational and entertaining. Because I was bored and annoyed by our tour guide. Perhaps good for kids. Get a good walking tour book and save yourself the misery. I was very, very disappointed. read more

This was a good ghost tour (based on my ghost tour standards anyway.) Our tour guide was knowledgable of the history of Lafayette Square (even the history that didn't include ghosts). The walk was easy, stories interesting, and you get a gorgeous view of the White House by night. It took me to an area I probably wouldn't have been inclined to visit on my own and it was a beautiful area (by day or night.) Ghost tours (when they're done right) are a fun way to take in history and sightseeing. This one was done right with a mix of historical stories/ background as well as personal stories of hauntings that have happened on tours. read more

I always try to do a ghost tour in new towns, I really enjoy this sort of stuff. We did the tour of LaFayette Square. It was about an hour and a half and walked you pretty much around the square. It was very easy walking. You go outside the haunted spots and listen about the creepy things that happened there. I thought this was really interesting and the tour guide tried to make it fun. It just wasn't my favorite tour but I would try the other one that they offered because I like this kind of stuff. I would just probably do it with a groupon if they ever get one. read more

I booked a tour last night for 8 pm. There was about 13 of us waiting at the specified location and no one ever showed up. I tried reaching out to the number and email on the site and that was provided via the confirmation email and the only response I got back was that a tour guide was at the location and left by 8:05 because no one showed up. How is it even possible that an entire tour group could all show up to the wrong location? Save your money and your time. Im having to go through my bank to get a refund since these people have since stopped relying to my emails. read more

This was a great tour at night! Our guide was Kristen and she was full of awesome facts about the ghosts of LaFayette Park. We took our niece who had never been on a ghost tour in DC and she loved it! The tour started in front of the Dolley Madison House and ended at the White House. We will definitely do another tour with Washington DC Ghost Tours next time we're in town. This review is for the DC Capitol Hill Haunts Tour. My original tour (Ghosts of Lafayette Park) was canceled, but it was my last night so I switched to this tour. Our tour guide was very nice, but the material of the tour was not what I was expecting. The tour guide made a point at the beginning of the tour that she would only tell us about stories that had been collaborated by 3 or more sources. The base of a story seemed to be well researched, but to add flare it was usually spiced up with a story from a security guard or janitor. This tour was not worth it. read more

The Capitol Hill Tour is terrible. The stories are thin, repetitive, and some seem made up. Also you will be asked to take pictures, and asked 20 times whether anyone has spotted any orbs. The most exciting part was when the tour guide scared the bejeezus out of one of the attendees by shrieking. read more

Order your ticket by phone before 8PM. My sister showed up with cash a little before 8PM and the guide would not take it. The guide directed my sister to call in and get a ticket. My sister called and got through and the woman was flustered because my sister called so late. We showed up at 8PM, while my sister was still on the phone, but the woman would not sell two more tickets because it was "after the deadline." I tried to call but the call went to voicemail. I didn't take the tour, since I hadn't paid, but my wife did, because she didn't care. What on Earth is happening with this "business"? Our tourguide was actor Chad Eric Smith. His delivery of stories were beyond what you would expect. The stories were historically accurate and full of suspense at every corner. The white house and the square looks awesome at night. I would definitely avoid the bus tours and walk with Mr. Smith around LaFayette Square if you dare. read more

This tour was a lot of fun. Some of the stories were more compelling than others. We got an orb when we took a photo at one point in the tour - a little goosebumpy. This was a total waste of money. A friend of mine went on a ghost tour in Alexandria and said it was a really cool, historical experience. This was a very tedious, painful experience. A few of the stories might have been cool if they hadn't been drawn out in painful theatrical detail. We basically walked around a square and heard a few stories about people who had been killed there. Maybe it was our tour guides first time or something, but this was seriously bad. We gave some pity laughs and feigned interest. If there had been a way for us to leave without being obvious and rude, we would have after the first story. An hour and 45 minutes and $15 down the drain. And they don't give refunds -- we checked. read more

I recently went on this tour and it was absolutely amazing! Our tour was very educational and entertaining. Our guide, Chad, was very thrilling. He knew just when to take the dramatic pauses and when to lure us in. Aside from that I felt like I could go on forever hearing about the different stories of love and tragedy all over the square. I did the lafayette square tour. The tour itself was really fun and informative but the booking agency is horrible. When I called in for information I was told two different things and was extremely confused about the details. I found more info online and booked online instead. I couldn't find where to meet the guide so I called in and the reservation agent said she lives in Florida and has never been there before so she was no help, I told her I wanted by money back because this was at 6:55 and the tour started at 7; I had no hope of finding it in time. The agent took my info and said they'd call me to refund me once they talk with a manager and I never received a call back. It felt like a scam for money. As I went to leave the park I saw a woman dresses in a large dress, and she said she was doing the tour. She had her dress tucked into her street clothes so you could see both, she complained about the rain and how she wished they would have cancelled it. She didn't have a lantern, hers is broken and she wasn't where the agent had told me to go. Overall it was extremely confusing and frustrating to find it but once it started it was fun. read more

This company cancelled it's tour because it didn't have anyone to guide it that night. Now, I've tried to reschedule, and because of some time limit on rescheduling, they won't honor my $17.00 so they get to keep my money and I don't get to go on the tour. The guide was friendly but the stories stupid. Here's one: there was a barber who worked in the Russell Senate building who did a great job and always had clean tools. He died. The barber who took over for him didn't do a good job and his tools weren't clean. Then on the 1-year anniversar of the good barber's death, the new barber started doing a really good job and cleaning his tools! Was it the ghost of the good barber? My husband said, "No, he just got 1 year of experience under his belt!" read more

The lady conducting our tour was very knowledgeable about the history of DC, but she gave us more of an in depth history lesson rather than a ghost tour. She would continue for about 15-20 minutes at each location about the history and then would throw in the "ghost" part at the end in about 15 seconds. I was disappointed in the tour. We recently went on another tour in another city and absolutely loved it, but were let down by our "history" tour provided by Washington DC Ghost Tours. Great historical information. Our tour guide (Mike) was extremely knowledgeable, would answer questions and was an overall good storyteller. If you are looking for a "ghost hunting" experience, this isn't it. You don't go inside anywhere but you don't need to. The stories are enough...there have been a ton of tragedies in a very small area.
