I've lived in Washington for nearly 10 years (albeit not consecutively) and I was fascinated by all the obscure and intriguing history that I learned on this tour! I know, I know, it's a ghost tour, and the ambiance and vibe last night definitely made that a more plausible possibility even to a skeptic like me, but Tony is such a fabulous tour guide that he provides both education and thrills with the retellings of the many little-know histories behind such Washington DC sites as the Dolly Madison House and the Hay Adams Hotel. Though the tour is nominally an hour, Tony encourages lots of audience questions and doesn't cut things short, so we went a bit over, and it was nice not to feel rushed. It was a beautiful night with a perfect crisp early autumn chill (I guess we're not really early autumn anymore, but when it gets too chilly late in the season I stop going outside so this was just right for me). The group was large and enthusiastic, and we actually all met by the building of the US Treasury, where we split into two groups under two tour guides. I was very impressed by Tony's knowledge and presentation skills, and his sense of humor made the tour so much fun (spoiler alert - there were a few BADUM-ching jokes). The tour is a leisurely pace, and all I'll say, which you probably know if you've researched this tour, is all the sites are in the vicinity of the White House, probably less than a quarter mile. I won't share any more spoilers, but I'm happy to say that for out-of-towners and locals alike, this is a very fun way to spend an evening in DC. It's a very wel-organized and managed outing, but I really have to give the credit to Tony, seriously such a talented guy and an excellent host for this hour spent in the nation's capital. read more

Our tour guide Stewart was great!! He was very knowledgeable and you could tell he really enjoyed the stories he was telling the group. Being able to learn about some spooky tales while also getting to know more of the unknown history of DC was a great experience. My wife and I decided to take one star off due to a couple issues that had nothing to do with Stewart: 1.) The ticket says to be at the departure site at 7:45pm and look for your guide that has a lantern. However, we arrived about 7:40pm with no tour guide to be seen, Stewart was a few minutes late due to a Metro issue and he unfortunately did not carry a lantern. (Tardiness was not his fault) 2.) We purchased the ghost "plushie" as a souvenir but what we received was quite disappointing (photo attached), definitely not worth it. When you think of "plushie" you think of a stuffed animal sized object, this was not it at all. So, if you're looking for a neat walking tour at night, DC Ghosts is absolutely a good go to, and if you're lucky enough to get Stewart as your guide, make sure to ask lots of questions. read more

This was so bad. Barely any knowledge of the buildings or history or bars. Every other tour I had been on it was pre-arranged & we felt like expected guests when we arrived. We had to wait to order. We learned nothing about the establishment. It felt like we were on a bad date as our guide complained to us like we were unpaid therapists the whole time. Listened to the host's life story like captives. He Complained about how the women at the Women's March were granted privileges & that he is a "savant" of history & undervalued. The tour was the same story every time: Some employee felt a cold breeze or a tap on their should and boo a ghost. Host only talked to directly to my friend. We are Midwest polite, so this was weird. It was 2 of us & the guide. He called us when we were 2 minutes late. It was so awkward We left early. Not fun. I can't believe we paid to be a captive audience for someone to complain. Not worth it. We (party of two) did the ghost tour with Tony, and he was wonderful! We did the extended tour in October the night before Friday the 13th to celebrate Halloween. Tony was very knowledgeable about all the historical landmarks and was great at sharing all the ghost stories throughout the hour and a half tour. He even gave us enough time to take photos with a great view in front of the White House. Very glad in our decision to do this tour! read more

Stuart was great at relaying the stories of ghosts and how they linked to the historic buildings and history in general. Very entertaining. Our EMF was flashing danger at the decanter house! Only issue is on the confirmation email there is a link (address) and map, we clicked on the address and walked to the African American Museum, then tried to call the office on the email and the phone number says to email. It was very stressful to try to get to meeting place on time. I wished the correct address was linked so that there was no mistake. Luckily Stuart allowed us to join 8 minutes late and join in the extended tour. read more

As someone super interested in true crime and someone who has a girlfriend who is not, this was enjoyable for both of us immensely. The tour guide was very knowledgeable, friendly, and overall personable. Our tour guides name was Jennifer and trust me if you have her it's guaranteed to be a great tour. It was somewhat difficult to find the meeting spot but the herd of people and easily visible tour guide helped a lot in Washington, DC. First and foremost John was great. He knew his stuff, rolled with a ton of punches, and was entertaining. As a DC-ite I learned a lot which is what I look for in a tour. That said, DC Ghosts has A LOT of work to do. Our tour group for Boos and Booze was massive, so big that we weren't allowed in to a lot of bars on a Saturday night. This tour was billed as a haunted pub crawl and I wouldn't call it that with how few bars we actually saw. I got one drink during the entire experience and the second bar that was willing to serve us was at the end. By the time the server came around at the second bar the tour was over and my family wasn't interested in sticking around. The tour group had to split up to go into the first bar to get drinks and then come back out to the lobby where John was telling the stories. I missed a bunch of interesting stories at the InterContinental because of this. The group was so big it also made it hard to hear in some places, like the hotel lobby. DC Ghosts should either cap the Boos and Booze experience to about 10 people (not the nearly 20 that we had) and have reservations for tour groups at the bars or not sell a haunted pub crawl. I had such high hopes for it but the logistics made it hard to enjoy at times and I felt bad for my family who were visiting that I chose this tour for them. read more

Scheduled the nighttime ghost tour as a last minute activity for me and my 12yo daughter. We loved it! Our guide Stuart was extremely knowledgeable and the stories were so interesting. He was very attentive and encouraged questions, and even chatted with my daughter on the walk between sites. Had a great night with family learning the history of some of the people that lived in the buildings I pass by in DC every day. So cool to see a different side of the city at night! If you like architecture and historical drama this is the tour for you. Lots of breaks during the walk as well. Great for all ages. My 9 year old had a blast looking for ghosts!
