My significant other and I had such a great time recently at VIP Café! It was our first time visiting, although we've known about the restaurant, and that Coach John Wooden dined here, for a long time. I had an appointment in the neighborhood, so we decided to stop by afterward. From the moment we walked through the door, we were greeted right away and made to feel like we were regulars. We got to pick our own table and once we did, someone stopped by right away to give us menus and take our drink orders. The menu is big and we let our server know it was our first time visiting. There is so much to choose from, so we needed a couple of minutes to see all the options. It was finally between a couple of things for us, and we asked for recommendations. I was told that the hollandaise sauce on the benedicts was really good, and I decided to go with the Irish Benedict, which had corned beef hash. It was delicious and the poached eggs were perfectly cooked! The home fries were so good...crunchy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. I loved the various memorabilia on the walls, especially everything related to Coach John Wooden. Several years ago, I had a chance to meet Coach, and he holds a special place in my heart. The overall vibe at the restaurant was friendly and welcoming. The service was attentive and friendly. The food was top-notch coffee shop cuisine. We loved meeting Paul, who was very kind. I would love to go back and try some of the lunch and Chinese options. We had parked on the street but were told that they validate in the parking area behind the restaurant. We'll keep that in mind for our next visit. read more

Family owned restaurant where service is top notch. It's nothing fancy just eat breakfast brunch café. There were so many things on the menu. They even have Chinese food on your menu if you wanna mix it up. Luckily I went with enough people that I was able to try other dishes. From the moment we checked in, to getting seated, getting our food or to enjoy each bite, it was just all around great way to start the day with a delicious breakfast. We keep coming back here for their breakfast burritos. You can order them for pick up (which we do) or enjoy breakfast from a massive menu in their vibey restaurant. The inside is as old school diner you can get, with booth seating and a wrap around bar. They serve mimosas for those looking for a boozy breakfast. Unassuming, you'd never expect a place located in an office building to have great service, and great food. They seem to have a lot of people who are regulars, they've got cute decor with photos of 90s and then some celebrities... a bit fun to try to guess who these people are... anywho. Both times I was here I had Chinese food for breakfast. First time was chicken broccoli and the second time was the wonton soup. Not the best but it hit the spot especially since finding Asian food at a restaurant early in the morning isn't exactly easy. They've got good coffee, and they cook their eggs just right. I would highly recommend this place and from the looks of it, so would many other people! read more

Such a cute little diner! Came in around noon and was promptly sat. I opted for an iced vanilla caffe latte and the bacon breakfast burrito, while my partner ordered the hungry combo and upgraded the biscuits to a short stack of chocolate chip pancakes. The burrito was grilled, and it gave it a nice crunch. The stuffing was great. As for my partner's entree, I definitely found my favorite. I had the most amazing late lunch! The restaurant is absolutely charming with a vintage feel, but it's also very clean and lovely upgraded feel! I ordered the Chinese salad with a crunch and chicken & waffles. Oh my goodness - they are incredibly delicious. The salad is so refreshing and the chicken is super juicy and tasty. I highly recommend this place. The staff was extremely friendly and there's even 90 minutes of free parking validation in the back, which is a great bonus! read more

This has been our local breakfast place for 15 years. First, I was pushing a stroller with a two year old. Now we are celebrating our teenagers' birthdays. In between Paul and his family, along with Jackie, and Jorge have helped us celebrate birthdays each year, give us a big bowl of whip cream for their awesome pancakes. All the while they always say how happy they are that we are there. For birthdays pre or post-game meals VIP's is so great. Can't recommend enough. What a delightful diner! We got a comfy booth for a reunion with one of our most cherished couple friends, and had a wonderful time! We were there 8:30-10:30am on a Friday morning and while there was a modest rush around 9:30, the place was never packed out. Our server told us she has been there for 26 years and her recommendations were fantastic! I enjoyed the breakfast burrito and bites of the table pancake--the berries and cream and the syrup were delicious. I can't believe we haven't come here before! VIP's is the quintessential diner (or as we used to call them back East, Coffee Shop). The effusive owner always greets you with a big hello as you walk in, and the staff of servers is likewise very friendly. The place was built a while back, so it has a retro feel, and although the furnishing are on the older side they're very well maintained, so there's a comforting, homey feel. The menu features most of the usual, diner breakfast and lunch items, with a number of specials available, though prices are generally quite reasonable with or without a special. The cooks work efficiently, and orders come out very quickly. Eggs are prepared as requested, as are the meats and hash browns (crispy and hot). Omelettes are substantially crafted and very filling. My one pet peeve here is that they tend to use imitation cheese (especially the "Swiss," which is really that very fake, slightly sour processed white American from the 1970's). I understand the economics, but using real cheese would really boost the quality of things. Other breakfast items, like pancakes, are equally well made and tasty. And lunch items like a classic BLT, Grilled Cheese or Burger tick all the necessary boxes. There's metered parking on the street, or they will validate parking in the adjacent office building. This is a nice, convenient and very satisfying family-run diner that's very much worth checking out. read more

After my last review, we have visited several times and we have never been disappointed. Somehow, none of the breakfast spots I have tried have pancakes as delicious, light, and fluffy. The service is always fast, courteous and efficient, but what I really love about this place is the traditional American laid back atmosphere. The menu is extensive, so it should be easy to find something you will like. We went right around opening and we were able to seat ourselves right away. They have inside booths and counter seating. Along with outside tables. There is street parking and behind the building paid parking that restaurant validates. The pancakes are bland even with syrup and the egg whites omelet needed seasoning. The Americano coffee was good. They have a variety of creamer and jellies/jams. I probably won't be going back, because pancakes are what I like for breakfast. This was my favorite place in all of Los Angeles until now. I would always invite my friends and recommend this place for the food, the great atmosphere, and the service. Last Sunday we went with my boyfriend and his friends. We understand that it was busy, but the waitress was so rude to my boyfriend's friends. I felt so embarrassed because it was their first time there and they were just asking questions about the menu because they had doubts. However, the waitress was very upset by the questions. She said, "You see, we only have one steak," and "Wow, so that's for us because my friend doesn't speak English." Well, she's an old lady trying to eat something that she likes. Additionally, I ordered my steak well done, and it was all raw and dry, as if it had been reheated. My review for this place has always been 5 stars, but wow. This was our second visit to VIP's Cafe on Ventura Blvd. Both times were with the same people, and we were a party of 4 for brunch around 11:00 a.m. Both times we chose to sit out on the patio in the shade as weather was lovely. Both times we were attended to immediately upon sitting and never had to look for anyone for extra coffee or a hot sauce request. The food was excellent. The pancakes were light and cooked perfectly and the others egg dishes were also delicious. Toast came at the same time and staff was polite and smiled when approaching. My side of fruit had a fresh cut banana and some melons. We had no wait either time which were on weekdays. Will definitely recommend to others and return again. read more

What a gem! Went there for the first time today and plan on returning in the future. Food was cooked to my exact picky specifications and tasted delicious. I ordered the corned beef hash and 2 eggs, with hash browns and a biscuit. It was perfect, but a lot for me so I'm looking forward to my leftovers! I ordered biscuits and gravy over the phone for pick up. When I arrived, I was excited to see that there was a dedicated parking structure, and the restaurant offers parking vouchers for customers. I walked in and I was greeted right away. It was very cozy inside and felt like a family restaurant. There was lots of pictures up on the wall showing restaurant staff with public figures through history. My food was super fresh and still warm for me when I got around to eating it about 10 minutes after picking it up. The portion size is very generous, and the biscuits and gravy are so tasty. I'm quite the biscuit and gravy efficient so I've been craving these for a while and these are the best ones I've had in couple years. Food was mediocre at best. The hash browns were burned. Eggs were lukewarm & toast was swimming in butter. The French toast wasn't anything special either. The service was fast. Our server was nice however I'm surprised she didn't send back the burned hash browns prior to bringing it to our table. I didn't eat them. It didn't seem to phase her.
