This place is such a gem!! It feels like a restaurant in a treehouse. So many areas for seating, every corner you turn it feel like there's more and more areas with tables. Perfect place to take out of towners too! You can look out onto scenic greenery, and it's just the perfect place to unwind. I ordered an iced matcha latte and it honestly wasn't the best. And I'm a huge matcha lover. For food, I got the disco club sandwich, without realizing it comes on glittery blue sourdough haha. It was definitely a fun one to look at and take pics of, but the flavor was just OK. Next time, I'd get something else. Definitely not inexpensive too, the sandwich was $27. I finally made it to Cafe on 27!! I have been seeing it all over instagram and I pass it every week driving the canyon. I have been wanting to visit for the last few years. Well I finally made it to this beautiful magical tree house vibe of a restaurant! I absolutely love the rustic charm of this place. They have it decorated so beautifully with amazing views. When we arrived it was pretty cold for the summer. So to warm up we all ordered lattes. I was pleasantly surprised with how tasty the chai and vanilla latte was. I almost wanted to order another one. The menu was a decent size with lots of options to choose from. What made it more difficult was, you can order breakfast, lunch, or dinner at any time. So my dilemma was what do I order at 9:30 in the morning. I ended up ordering the lobster eggs Benedict with the potato bravas. It was tasty and I loved the crispy seasoned potatoes. I probably wouldn't order again because I want to try more of the menu. I love trying many things and sharing so you can find your favorite dishes. I pointed out the crispy wispy chicken sandwich to my niece. It sounded delicious .... And it was!!! I made her give me a bite. And then our group also ordered the Tuscany toast with pesto and burrata and prosciutto. It was really good. Another shared dish was the Irish Mac Enchiz. It was really flavorful. It was served in a bread bowl. I'm glad we shared this because it's definitely heavy being in the bread bowl. But it was really good with the Gouda, cheddar and pastrami. My friends also ordered different types of waffles and they both loved them. After a beautiful brunch we went and explored all the different terraces and views because it was too stunning not to! I can see myself going back a lot more now and bringing friends to experience this magical place. The only thing I don't like is dealing with the parking on the busy canyon road and how crowded this place can be. I will never visit on a weekend. It gets insane. Super aesthetic and peaceful spot in the Topanga mountains (the drive there is beautiful), and they even have a cat roaming around the cafe. The food is decent, but you're really paying for the immaculate vibes and treetop views. Great place to go with friends & family, just be sure to reserve well in advance as they book out so quick and are very busy. Probably the most picturesque place I've been to while enjoying a meal (or a treat and a drink) I've ever had in the Los Angeles area. I came in on a Sunday almost a closing and I was by myself. I also had eaten lunch. So my experience here was really just for dessert and a caffeinated beverage. I was seated relatively quickly and the was approached by one of the most friendly waitstaff folks. And since I was alone, I was able to sit along one of the outward facing counters with wonderful view. The ambiance was top notch. I took advantage of a deal they had where if you buy a bag of the coffee beans (I make a lot of my own coffee at home anyway), you get one of the coffee/tea drinks for free! I also ordered a slice of the orange cake based on a rec from my waitress as my treat. Enjoying the slice and beverage by myself really allowed me to just soak in the entire experience and it was a great one. Would definitely love to comeback and try their menu items. I just live pretty far away so I'll have to wait until I visit one of my friends who lives relatively close by. Because of the popularity and the tight, winding road parking nearby can be tricky. Our wait for weekend brunch was over an hour, but the outdoor seating overlooking the canyon made it worthwhile. My eggs Benedict had a heavy, cheese-like hollandaise, all of the fat apparently but little of its traditional buttery richness. The breakfast potatoes were greasy and had a reheated taste. My friend enjoyed her avocado toast, so that may be a better order. The staff is friendly and they work together. It's important to know, when ordering steak and eggs in places like this, the type of steak you're getting. They used tenderloin. The chimichurri was more lemony. I'd recommend to make reservations prior to going here, especially on the weekends because it does get quite busy and crowded. It's quite the popular place, and now I understand why. If you're coming for the treehouse vibes and stunning views, Café on 27 absolutely delivers just come prepared to wait. We were blown away by the beautiful, spacious outdoor setting. It truly feels like a scenic escape. It does get extremely busy, so reservations are a must. We had a 1:30 reservation, checked in early at 1:00, and were told we could be seated sooner at 1:15, but we weren't seated until about 1:35-1:40 after checking back in. Expect a wait even with a reservation, and I recommend coming with four people or fewer to avoid longer delays. As for the food, the Wispy Crispy Chicken Sandwich is a must-try absolutely delicious and to die for. I ordered the Hearty Tuna Melt, which was also excellent and something I would come back for. The iced coffee was great as well. For dessert, we tried the Fluff Giant Pancake (ricotta blueberry pancakes with berry maple syrup), but unfortunately it was underwhelming and lacked flavor, so I wouldn't order that again. I have been here multiple times already, but was able to come with my kids for the Yelp event. They had not been previously. It was an excellent surprise for them, especially as my older kid is soon off to college. I'm trying to make every memory I can with him, in hopes he will want to come back to CA to visit. The valets are attentive and professional. Ok...On to the actual restaurant. I must admit, I normally go to a restaurant and order the same thing over and over. I am a creature of habit and am cautious to try anything new. Luckily, the previous times I came the people I went with forced me to try everything. It was always a great. On another trip the other guest ordered about seven things to taste a bit of everything. So in turn I tried a bit of all he had ordered. The only thing I was so-so on was the lobster roll, but I'm not a fan of lobster. He liked it a lot. But I digress. On to this visit, I stated I info above to preface the fact that I felt safe to order something new. I tried the veggie sandwich (sans onion) and it was great. The caramel latte hit the spot. My small one got the Daddy's special waffle. The waffle was fluffy and light, but it was a bit sweet with everything else that was added. But melted ice cream was a nice sauce for the waffle. The kid loved it. Her raspberry lavender lemonade was the best drink at the table. I would have had a million glasses of that and ultimately fell into a diabetic coma. The star of the show was the big kid's pastrami. He had never had pastrami before. He wants to try all the meats he can. It had an egg, jalapeños and some sauce. He got the potatoes on the side. Safe to say I wish I ordered the potatoes instead of my fries. His sandwich was so delicious I secretly wished I could switch half of mine for half of his, but he was so happy that I dare not ask. (He's a very good kid and would have quickly obliged). Anyway, that was the winner. Portions are ginormous and delicious. I was so worried during the palisades fire that this could possibly been affected, only because of all of the greenery around it, thank goodness it wasn't. I am so grateful for this event as it got me to drive there. It's about 45-60 min (depending on traffic of course) but soooo worth it. The only request I make is that you don't go when I go, as I don't want to wait to park, for a table etc. it's that busy. But go. Go right now. You won't regret it! This is my first time dining here and it certainly won't be my last. I came here the day I'm writing this review to celebrate a late Mother's Day. I never order matcha unless I go somewhere special and this occasion called for it. The waitress was very kind and let us sit with our drinks for a while before we were ready to order. The view made it so easy to forget about how ever long we waited for food. The seating area is nothing like anywhere you've been. I've had Cafe on 27 for brunch with a big group and a smaller group and the breakfast items are pretty tasty but the draw to eat here is the beautiful outdoor Mountain View. Cafe on 27 reached out and told me they were doing dinners on the 27th of the month, which was perfect as I was spending my anniversary in Topanga Canyon this year. I booked a reservation for 2 at 6pm and was seated right away. The experience of dinner is different than the breakfast/ brunch experience but everything was really pretty. There are outdoor space heaters, can't see the mountain view like we can during brunch but the candlelit experience with slow romantic music playing in the background created the perfect intimate atmosphere. Our waitress was super attentive and accommodating and periodically checked in on us. For appetizers we ordered the calamari and spinach and warm feta dip with pita bread. Quotes from my husband "I love this tartar sauce" for the calamari. The appetizers came pretty fast and were delicious. For dinner we ordered grilled salmon and the burger. Everything on my salmon plate was delicious from the grilled vegetables to the butternut squash. The salmon was perfectly grilled to crispy perfection and light and juicy on the inside. The café is incredibly cozy, and the staff made us feel so welcome from the moment we walked in. We stopped by for coffee and dessert, enjoying a cappuccino, an Americano, and the Dubai pistachio cake, which was delicious. The only thing we regretted was arriving after we had already eaten. The dishes being served to nearby tables looked absolutely amazing and beautifully presented. We're already looking forward to coming back when we're actually hungry and can fully enjoy the menu. My mother was visiting Los Angeles and we spent a couple of nights in Topanga. I heard how quaint cafe on 27 was so we had dinner there on Saturday night. We were totally impressed by the service from the host at arrival to the servers and bussers. They were all so sweet and I have to say very attractive!! Food was perfect, had the ribs which were HUGE and tasty. The Dubai Chocolate cake was to die for. And of course the views which the cafe is famous for were beautiful. Will be back for sure. Parking is alongside the street, we had no issues but it is limited so plan in advance if you are coming at a peak time. Service is friendly, a bit slow but it's a gorgeous place so we didn't mind waiting. Ambiance is increíble, wow! It has amazing views and tons of seating that overlook the scenery. Love all the salt & pepper shakers. For food I got! Had an amazing latte I forgot the name of but it was one of the specialities. I got the hearty tuna melt which was amazing with the potatoes. Great portion sizes. Prices were a bit steep even for California but the views and remote location make sense for them. read more
