I don't know if it was the warmth of the room, the heat and gentle spice of the food or the efficiency of the sole waitstaff... But this was a relaxing and delicious meal. Ban chan were 11.. Unheard of in lower 48, all tasty, crisp and cool. Soon dubu filled with oysters and bits of meat, bibimbap with a completely different set of banchan and perfect beef. This was good: good value, good food and good atmosper. Sigh. read more

This is a wonderful small Korean restaurant. I really enjoy how you get the whole Korean spread with your meals. I can honestly say this is my favorite Korean restaurant in Anchorage. As someone who has been to Korea I can completely recommend this place. read more

This is a decent restaurant, but too average for Korean food. If you want authenticity, don't go here, try tofu house restaurant or Jin Mi if you want the real, homemade cooked food. VIP commercializes their food with lots of oils and heavy msg, therefore the food doesn't have that same homemade taste. The service is so-so, depending on who you are. I am Korean and I eat korean food every day, and the food here isn't that great compared to my mom or home restaurants like Jin Mi. read more

Been going here since 1997. Love the place, taste just like home cooking in Korea! We try to come here at least once a week!!

Hands down by far the BEST Korean food I have had in the US. I like it spicy and they do not disappoint. Kim Bob, Djegi Boulgi, and bean sprout soup are out of this world. It's owned by a wonderful couple who are always there. You swear it is someone's Grandmother who doing all the cooking. BOTTOM LINE: Service and be a little (LOT) slow because there is usually only 1 person waiting on ALL the tables. OUTCOME: If you have the time go and enjoy this wonderful food. read more

The food is good, but there is only one waitress everytime I dine in. Its terrible. I would only go back for the food and suffer at the same time. read more

Their food was great! But their service was very poor. They weren't so welcoming and they did not check up on us to see how we were doing. read more

Vip Restaurant - One of the best I've ever had. Beef soup. - Korean Near Me - Anchorage, Alaska

Best Korean food in town! Some thing must be right if they've been around for so long. I can overlook the service for the food.

The best Korean food we've had in a long time. On par with places we visited in Seoul. The banchan were varied, flavorful and generous in number and amount. The japchae was light, chewy and fresh. The galbi was slightly sweet and cooked to a perfect tenderness. Tremendous! You must visit! read more

Very pleasant surprise. The Bibambap was very good. The PaJun was not as crispy as I like it.

It was very crowded and yet the one and only waitress/busboy/hostess/bartender was whipping around like the Tasmanian devil and she single handedly waited/bussed/cashed out all of the customers. Our food came out right away and was EXCELLENT as usual. I love this restaurant. read more

I was skeptical about going to this restaurant, after reading the reviews. I'm glad that we took the chance and went. Our party of 6 received excellent service. We were seated right away and mugs of hot tea were delivered to us. Our food was brought to our table in no time at all, piping hot. All of our dishes were delicious, including the first course of soup with daikon. We ordered seafood pancakes, stone pots of bibimbab with rice cooked to crunchy perfection, galbi, spicy squid with vegetables, and spicy pork. The side dishes (which must be labor-intensive) were numerous, fresh and tasty. Our waitress volunteered to take a picture of our group, and even offered to retake it, if we weren't satisfied. The majority of our party is from out of town and eats Korean food, regularly. We liked this food and we will definitely eat here, again. read more

Best Korean food!!! The house made banchan is soooo good. The dok boki rocks and so do the kalbi and spicy pork. Wish I lived in anchorage.

This is my first time went to VIP. I gave it 2stars. Maybe I'm a little picky, but as a customer, I prefer services to foods. Especially in a restaurant, how the service is will directly determine the mood of the customer is while they're eating. The foods of VIP deserve its price, but not the services. The waitress who served us look and talks like we owe her money. My friend while was looking for bathroom, but they seems like very busy.. we have to wait until they came up then ask. Anyways, the foods are pretty good! I probably will visit one more time and see if they change their service ways.. cause, to be honest, their foods I very enjoy. read more

Food is awesome but service sucks! Sometimes i get the feeling that the server is just going with the motion and not really putting any effort in customer service. Especially, this one Korean lady who can be rude at times (not sure but it can be the owner). Back in 2001 is when my mom first took me to the restaurant and loved it but as the years passed, food still great but service declined. And, food is a bit expensive but hey its Alaska. I haven't been in the restaurant in awhile since I moved out of state but I hope their service has improved because their food is great. read more

First time here. Service was okay. Took a few minutes to get us seated. I ordered the bulgogi with rice. GF ordered the seafood soup. Came with all the little veggies. The bulgogi was okay. I was expecting it to be great considering this was a actual korean spot. Also it was $12.99. The little veggies was good though. GF like the seafood soup. Service never came around to refill my water. The bill came out to $35 or so. Pretty expensive. I was hungry an hour after. Might give them a try again. read more

Vip Restaurant - Korean Near Me - Anchorage, Alaska

I've been there three times and very much appreciate the place. This is for Korean or Chinese food. They don't serve Thai tea and they only have white rice. Just so you know. They have luncheon specials for about $13. which is reasonable given the variety and the twelve little plates of taste treats that come with most offerings. On these I identified cabbage kim chee, radish kim chee, flavored potatoes, green beans, bean curd, and bean sprouts. My meal was the squid which I found fresh and flavorful. Service was brisk and efficient. As people left, the tables were cleared and thoroughly wiped down. read more

Excellent service and delicious food, prices are reasonable considering the amount of food. Bring your appetite!

I've been eating here for over 20 years, it is the best Korean food in anchorage and I consider it to be a top 5 restaurant in anchorage. Some times it could be warmer, some times the waitress is busy, but overall I have never felt neglected or poorly treated. The food is a bargain and always consistently delicious! read more

Excellent food and service. My boyfriend's favorite Korean restaurant in Anchorage. Favorite dish is Torzo Bibimbop and Kalbi. Try it .. You don't be disappointed. read more

Food was yum. It was an authentic korean food but the server was not friendly and the restaurant was not clean.

Had my baby shower there today, granted it was short notice due to venue complications. The party was hardly checked on or offered refills, demanded to order 'more' 'more'. Was denied a knife or even plates, because the restaurant 'didn't have any' for our party cake. Staff couldn't hardly speak English. One of the guests had to leave for the overwhelming burning food smell the private room aid had. All in all, it dampened the joyous occasion. On top of it all they generously tipped themselves. read more

Had low expectations for Korean food in Alaska, but was pleasantly surprised. A lot of banchan (side dishes) and a diverse menu. I had the crab stew and it was spicy and tasty- the vegetables were a little undercooked and the crab itself wasn't too great, but the soup was good and like I said the banchan were great. This is a standard Korean restaurant so if you are looking for service and atmosphere, forget it. But for a korean place outside of CA or NY- pretty good. read more

I find myself CONSTANTLY craving this place after the first time I had ever eaten here. VIP does Korean and they do it exceptionally well. If we're being honest, I've never tried anything besides the Kalbi and Hot Stone Bibimbap, but once you have had the best - why try to change? I've eaten at every Tofu House in Anchorage and while they're all pretty similar in terms of flavor, VIP just has something about it that I cannot help but be attracted to. Go there tonight! read more

Good authentic Korean food! So delicious and reminds me of South Korea.beef bulgogi is shredded thin and marinated and charred to perfection. read more

Vip Restaurant - Korean Near Me - Anchorage, Alaska

It wasn't bad service it was nonexistent. Waitress sighed, tapped her foot and was looking in a different direction as we ordered. Soup and kim chi showed up with meal, not before. She threw my bibimbap in my general direction as she walked past our table, not even glancing at us. Food was ok but not great and I couldn't get over the fact that she frisbee-style flung my food at me. Was $50 for 2 lunches and 2 drinks. Am never coming back here and I highly do not recommend this place. read more

Great, amazing food!. Just a little dirty and I seen a big fly flying around . Other than that , they're really fast with making the food. Just a little pricey for little portions of food. read more

It was a wintery night in Anchorage and you could hear the wind howling. There was a flu going around and you could hear people everywhere coughing and sneezing. I went in this night expecting an average tasting quiet dinner. What I got was a waitress that sneezed into her hands then without washing or sanitizing her hands began setting service on our table, along with glasses of water. I noted this to her. She was deeply insulted and denied everything that I saw just moments before. I asked for another server cause I was tired and hungry, but Mrs Public-Health_Disaster kept coming back to my table to yell at me, so I just left. Needless to say, I have not gone back and would not recommend this public health hazard to anyone. read more

I will give it 0 star if there is such option. Overpriced weird tasting salty food and one cold poker faced waitress serving all tables, She will only stop by your table to take orders and bring dishes. Watch out for pre-calculated tips on your bill because she won't tell you tip is included, and the receipt is written in Korean, so you have no idea what they are. My friend almost paid double tips until I asked the waitress, and she gave us a very inpatient and bad look. This will be my first and last visit. I forgot to mention that she shouted at the kids "If you spill the water I won't give you a refill" right after we settle down at the table. Nothing is refilled anyway even if there are no spills. While she running around tables, she did not forget to look at the kids with evil and witch-like eyes. Those eyes creep me. It is definitely not a kids-friendly place. The food is very bad tasting, because you can only taste salt and hot pepper. You will intake 10 times more salt comparing to regular meal. For the sake of health, please avoid this place. The dish is tiny. If you come in hungry, you need to double the order which bring up price easily to $40 pp. BTW, tiny bowl of rice is charged at $3 per bowl if it did not come with dishes. read more

I've become a regular...meaning I go more than once a month. Seriously my favorite Korean place in Anchorage. I usually get the Kimchi bibimbap, yukgaejang, or the kimchi pork tofu stew. All amazing. They don't skimp out on the banchan either. The service is hit or miss but to be fair they are usually busy. Definitely try it out if you haven't :) read more

This is our fav Korean place in the city. We always look forward to eating there. Tonight at 8pm on a Thursday night it was quiet and WARM! The black cod can serve two medium appetites plus we order dumplings, and took a large take-home box. Service is ok, not especially friendly, even after years of going there, but the food is wonderful. This winter i asked many friends and all say it is their favorite Asian food restaurant too. It is especially nice when you see so many Korean families there too. read more

I am fairly new to Korean food but a Korean friend of mine recommended this place. I have eaten there 3 or4 times now. I love it. I have tried several different dishes, soups, rice dishes, meat whatever. All have been good to excellant. Great portions. The little bowls of appetizers they serve with the meals are fun too. Lots of different flavors. Some of the dishes are spicy hot and some are mellow but all the ones I have had I have enjoyed. It is on my regular circuit of restaurants when I am in Anchorage now. read more

The food is decent; however, the service is really bad. We waited for an hour and watch a lady after us get served first, ate her food, and was about to leave before we finally got our food. I asked the server for a box twice and was ignored both times, lol! I have been here numerous times before leaving Alaska, the service was bad then and is still bad now. read more

Very good food along with outstanding service. First time we tried this place. Not glamorous but we ordered the spicy pork barbecue and it was a great dish with the 15 or so side dishes. Recommended by a Korean friend who said they did it right and authentic. Five of us ate for $100 including tip though we had no alcohol. Will add it to the list of reasonable, ethic restaurants. read more

Service is horrible for the most of the time but their bulgalbi is worth it to go there. Best kalbi ever! Only thing I hate is that you have to sometimes walk up to the waitresses yourself just to get a refill on your water :/ read more

Best Korean restaurant in town. They serve plenty of ban chan (side dishes) free of charge in addition to awesome Korean dishes. Some dishes are a little expensive but the amount of food they give you for what you pay is worth it. Customer service can lack at times but it's because there's usually only one waitress working. They should hire more wait staff but overall a great restaurant! read more

The food is incredibly good, but the wait time and the service can almost be non existent sometimes. I feel so bad for the lone server when the restaurant gets busy. They have no busser and Jose the owner and chef won't hire one to help the LONE server. If the food wasn't so good, they would be getting a 2 star review, but I've never had anything bad there and everything tastes very authentic and tasty. Hire a busser, Jose! One server shouldn't be responsible for serving and bussing 15 tables on a busy night. read more

Excellent tofu pot and the quality is almost on par with New York's Koreatown, the restaurant is generous with the amount of kimchi on the table. Short wait time and big, comfy table. read more

Horrible service. We had been there several years ago and liked it. Today there seemed to be a personal/ family gathering going on in one section so the rest of the restaurant was ignored. My spouses meal came and we waited and waited for my entree. We saw the cooks come out of the kitchen with plates of food and start eating! My husband asked our server where my entree was and one of the cooks eating got up and my entree finally appeared! Never going there again!!!!!! If having a family get together close the darn restaurant!!!!!!!! read more

Food is five star for sure! They have a great samplers (like serious a dozen or so) that come with every order. Customer service is seriously lacking. I'm very oriented on customer service and refuse to go places if the servers are rude. But the food is too good to pass up. read more
