This was an awful experience for my puppy and myself. First, the staff who administered the vaccines did nothing to make her feel safe or comfortable. I have never seen a vet treat a puppy like a livestock animal before this. The vaccine administration was extremely rushed and haphazard. She was terrified before they even got started, and she never responds this way to other veterinarians.
Second, my puppy developed an anaphylactic reaction to the vaccines that "Puppy visit 3" included. I'm not an expert on animal medicine, so when the VIP Pet Care's staff explained to me that my puppy needed several vaccines "today", I agreed. Well, 2 hours later we found ourselves at her regular vet because she needed urgent intervention. Mendocino Animal Hospital took care of her. The staff of this clinic asked me, "How many vaccines did she get today?" and they were stunned to hear that it was so many. They said to me, "We would never give such a small puppy more than 1 vaccine at a time; and it's because they are so prone to having reactions like this. She should get only one vaccine at a time."
--Why was I not advised to do the same by VIP Pet Care? It's hard to imagine that this wouldn't be the protocol of every veterinary care provider. My puppy had to be taken to the ER twice within a 12 hour time period following the VIP Pet Care service. And we have no clue which one of the vaccine products she had this reaction to, since y'all gave her too many at once. VIP Pet Care's "protocol" for puppies even jeopardizes my puppy's future safety, because when it comes time for her to receive booster shots, I don't know what precautions to take.
Long story short, you get what you pay for. I don't want my puppy to develop a lifelong phobia of veterinarians, so I'm not coming back to this clinic. read more
