This place is absolutely gorgeous - the decor is elegant and views are stunning. The lighting inside is dim, which can be hit or miss. For dinner I'd say it's a hit but during lunch it's a miss. I was here for lunch so it was a miss for me. The service was fantastic - they make you feel at home and want you to have a great time while there. Everyone is very friendly and took great care of me and my friend while we were there. The food is on to be pricier side but the quality makes up for it. I had the chicken gyro with fries and beets salad. Chicken gyro was seasoned very well and cooked perfectly. I'd get this again for sure. The beets salad was also delicious, it's worth trying at least one. For drinks I had the Agapi and wow, this place does a great job of crafting cocktails. It's on the unique side so if you're not adventurous when it comes to drink, this one might not be for you. My friend had the strawberry spritz and that was also delicious! For a dressy dinner with a date or your besties, the decor, furniture, and ambiance is top knotch! Experience is upscale, and the servers will even separate your meat for you. About the food - unfortunately the dishes we ordered was a bit bland. The preparation and texture of the food was good, but I wish they used more spices. The short rib pasta was pretty rich - you can taste the fattiness of the dish, and the truffle flavor is apparent. The 2nd dish (starts with an M) was kind of like a glorifoed lasagna without the pasta. Also wish they had added more salt & pepper here. For those that like rich foods with less spice, the foods here might fit your taste. As someone used to flavorful ethnic foods, it wasn't quite my jam. After a long over due date with my wife this weekend, we wanted to extend our evening. We tried out Violi. A spot we've passed by, but have never been inside. I spoke with a gentleman in a suit and asked if the kitchen was still open, unfortunately it wasn't. As we were walking out, he suggested we stay and enjoy the bar but it looked pretty packed. When I walked in, it looked very nice and elegant. Whether you're sitting inside the restaurant or the patio (I guess you could call it, even though it is still indoors) the atmosphere is very nice. We ordered some drinks, appetizers, and food. I wanted to try the espresso martini, but it's not for me. Not a drink that I like. At least I tried it though! We started with the breads and spreads. The pita and crisps were great with the spreads. I liked them all except the charred eggplant with pine nuts. That one was okay. The grilled octopus was cooked perfectly. It was so tender. Our waiter asked if he should cut it and I agreed before taking a picture. Rookie mistake on my part. I had the half order of the lamb gyro with fries and it was delicious. To the main point, We waited for an hour before our main courses were served, despite the restaurant having only about two occupied tables at the time. We had an excellent dinner here a few weeks ago. The outside patio is gorgeous - and I recommend you get a table out there. Flowers everywhere - just really pretty. We started with the brussel sprouts and then had the gyros and Chicken Souvlaki. All the dishes were delicious and I would recommend all of them. We ended up taking half the gyros and souvlaki home and it was just as great the next day. The meat of the gyros was so tender. Our wine was also good - loved the reisling. First time visiting, won't be back. The ambiance and decor of the restaurant are fantastic, but that's where it ends for me. Let's talk about the drinks. $16.99 for a 5 ounce glass of Kir-Yianni, The Fallen Oak. That's a $18.99 BOTTLE of wine at Binny's. I asked the bartender about the pour and he said, "5 ounces is our standard, but I didn't want to die on that hill, so I don't say anything." Lovely. I know there is a markup in restaurants, but to try and squeeze 5 glasses of wine out of a bottle is a joke. Old Fashioned? Same deal, short pour with Tin Cup whisky ($28.99 at Binny's) for $15.99 a cocktail. Regarding the food, taste was fine, but the octopus dish has gone from two pieces, which is highlighted on all their social media, to one piece at the same price. Rock shrimp and Feta didn't include a single piece of feta and the meatballs were dry. The highlight was the Horiatiki salad which was fresh and vibrant. When the bill came, there is a 3% surcharge added, for what I cannot explain, seemingly par for the course with this place. There are way too many great restaurants and even mediocre ones in the Western Suburbs to waste your time here. As a final kicker, valet is $8 and when handing the attendant a $20, I was told that he had no change at 8pm at night because I was his first car. IMO, go to a family owned place in Hinsdale, Downers Grove or even Gibson's or Perry's for that matter. They at least don't short pour their drinks and add 3% for nothing. read more

Lyra in the Fulton River District has been said to have some of the best octopus in Chicago. They've now opened a sister restaurant in the Oakbrook Center, which is very exciting to see! Violi is bringing the same delicious food, beautiful atmosphere & taste of Mykonos to the burbs. This restaurant opened around Thanksgiving. Unlike Lyra, Violi is open for lunch. The plates on the dinner menu are meant to be shareable, but we were also able to share items off the lunch menu as well. Portions are generous, and the food is fresh & flavorful. Even though the menu is similar to Lyra (do not miss out on the octopus) it's still different enough that you don't feel like you're eating at the same restaurant. If you drink alcohol, the espresso martini for dessert is A MUST. It was one of my top 5 espresso martinis. The flavor was perfection. The cocktail menu was thoughtful and well curated. We enjoyed the Hades, violi martini & then ended with the espresso martini. The menu was very descriptive& I loved that they have a photo of how to cocktail will be served (martini glass, rocks glass, highball glass etc). They also have 2 zero proof cocktails, wine list & some tap beers including ones from Greece. For our meal with started with the "breads & spreads" board and grilled octopus. The board was awesome, and a great way to sample a variety of spreads. The Tarama spread with black caviar was a first for us & that was the favorite spread along with the beetroot tzatziki. The octopus was phenomenal. The portion size was good for the price, and it was cooked perfectly. So tender & flavorful. For our main course we split the 1/2 order lamb gyro and chicken thigh souvlaki. The full order of the gyro could seriously feed 4 people after apps with how generous the portion was. The lamb was tender and juicy. I really enjoyed how it came deconstructed so each person could build their own gyro. I usually don't order chicken when I'm out because o feel like it's boring, but I do like chicken souvlaki. This one did not disappoint! The chicken was very flavorful and the ladolemono sauce was delicious. You didn't even need to add tzatziki. We had plenty to take home as we were pretty full from the appetizers. We were 2 adults & 1 child sharing everything. Even though we were full there's always room for dessert when I go out to eat. We ordered a traditional Greek dessert--Portokalopita, which is an orange syrup cake. The presentation on the dessert was very nice, and the flavors were fresh. Service was excellent, and all the staff was very attentive. Our server gave us great recommendations. She let us know that on Fridays and Saturdays after 8:30/9pm the restaurant will turn into a dance club for those who want to really feel like they're partying in Greece. They will bring in a DJ & move some tables aside to create a dance floor. This was a wonderful Greek meal in a gorgeous space. We went the night before Christmas Eve after going to the Morton Arboretum to see the lights. We had actually came too late and the kitchen was closed but they were nice enough to seat us anyway as the kitchen was still busy serving the customers that were already there. We asked if they were sure and they said yes! We had a few appetizers and desserts with a couple glasses of wine. The apps were great we got the shrimp and the calamari and the spreads. One of the best I've had. Already filling up we split the lamb gyros. Now I hesitate to get gyros at nicer restaurants as my local fast food Greek stop is perfection, but both the servers and the reviews online said it's very good and it was different than typical gyros meat. If you're visiting, you will need reservations so make sure you plan in advance!! Even for weekdays!! The menu is very much shareable so we tried a bunch of different items and it was perfect to share for the 3 of us! We got calamari for apps, short rib pasta and chicken skewers for the main, and roasted potatoes on the side! The calamari was very well cooked! Came with a very creamy dip that went perfectly! The pasta was a total surprise for me! The rib fell off the bone and literally melts in your mouth and the pasta was UNREALL! The combination of the two was absolutely unique and delicious! The grilled chicken skewers are INCREDIBLE!! They were perfectly seasoned and juicy and were cooked with tomatoes and onions which added another layer of flavor! It also came with pitas so we were able to assemble! The roasted potatoes were very well cooked! Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside! Went very well with the skewers on the side! This is one of my favorite restaurants and I hate to leave a review but tonight's Valentine's Day and my boyfriend and I come here for all of our special events. We made this reservation in early January and was not notified of the specific Valentine's Day menu which he and I were not going to pay $89 each for menu items we don't prefer. The options were extremely limited (one halal option, not even chicken option) and overall we left after finding out the very small menu they gave us were their only options. For appetizers we had the zucchini & eggplant chips. They were thin, crispy and full of flavor. For my entree I had beef tenderloin and it was cooked correctly and delicious. Co-workers had scallops, lamb chops, and pita...no one had leftovers. We had a side of cauliflower and they were probably the best cauliflower I have ever had. With a large bar as well, I can see how this is a popular gathering spot for those looking for a special experience. The entire restaurant is quite noisy however regardless of whether you're in the main dining room, side room, or bar area -- so the ability to have a casual evening conversation may be quite limited. For me, not considering the price at all, the food was a bit underwhelming. I found the grilled meatballs to be tender, but quite underseasoned. Even with the smoked yogurt and mint, the flavor was a bit flat for me. In the deconstructed pastitsio, the short rib ragu was pretty flavorful though a bit overcooked for me. The black truffle bechamel provided a nice salty flavor to the dish but may have made it a tad too salty. The beef tenderloin souvlaki was pretty tender, but once again tasted very underseasoned. I did enjoy the fresh charred broccoli in conjunction with the sheep butter yogurt and found the cucumber salata to be pretty good though a bit salty (instead of light and fresh). The chicken thigh souvlaki was probably the best of the dishes in terms of portion size and overall balance. I found the skin to be charred nicely though there wasn't much marination on the meat itself. The crispy potatoes had a good texture and level of seasoning to match. Overall, not a bad spot if you're looking for a party-like atmosphere inside a very nicely decorated restaurant. The food is a bit pricey and presented nicely, but I didn't find the textures or flavors to be anything special. read more

I was very much impressed by the presentation of everything , the ambience of the whole place was very cozy with the dim lighting but also very elegant, and overall a great experience. We stopped in yesterday to grab a late lunch/ early dinner. We ordered the 4 dip platter and octopus to start. Both were delicious. The real star is their warm fluffy pita that definitely tastes super fresh. The octopus was lemony and delicious. After our apps my hand accidentally hit the garnish in my cocktail and I spilled and shattered my completely full glass all over the table and myself. The staff was so sweet and brought me a dry towel to dry off, moved our table without us asking and replaced my drink before I could even order another. They also ended up comping the extra drink which was very nice and entirely unnecessary as it was my fault. The waitress and the rest of the staff were so nice the entire visit. For dinner I had the gyros which was amazing and my husband had the seafood linguine which he proceeded to talk about all night long because it was so good. The restaurant is beautiful and the grilled Octopus, Greek Meatballs, Fresh Oysters, Roasted Beets, Hummus and Pita and desserts were 2nd to none. Best grilled Octopus I've had anywhere in Chgo. The sparking Greek wine was excellent, not usually a fan because sparkling wines are often sweet - this was not, it was on the Brut side and was excellent. Darwin was our server and if I had a restaurant, I would definitely want him representing my brand. Excellent attitude, fast service, great sense of humor, and overall he made an excellent experience even better. For 'the Karens' complaining about the parking at Oak Brook - I say get a grip! Can only imagine your whining if you had to park and walk while you shopped at the mall, or when you go downtown to almost any restaurant or bar only to spend a small fortune just to park! There are 2 FREE garages - 1 at Nordstrom and another across the street by The Cheesecake Factory. My husband and I will never come here again. Our anniversary was ruined by being served 2 burned Branzino fish. We complained to the waiter and nothing was done. We also complained to the second waiter and nothing. We literally picked around the burnt pieces to eat. It was FIRE! I was uncomfortably full but I did not care. The orange syrup cake was to die for and you will only like it if you like orange-flavored things. If you don't then just get the bougatasa. This place is great for photo ops. Good Greek food but not many vegetarian options. Cocktails were okay. The ones we ordered were very sweet. But we had fun eating and spending time with friends. Fun ambiance for instagram worthy photos. Service was decent but dinner time can be very busy so the server was rushed and a bit rude . But not to worry - when it's time for the check they always come back with a big kind smile. At least you leave with some respect back, right? read more
