The second time I went here was much better than the first. I got some great oysters, and had much better service. I will be back.
This is my second time trying this restaurant... first time we came it was a better experience. This time around had the chicken and poke bowl which was okay. The ambience is lovely and staff are friendly.the poke was subpar .chicken was juicy and garlicky
What's great restaurant, we had a group of 20 and they had a side room for our group, the bar looked like a good place to sit and have a drink, outdoor seating is available directly in front of restaurant. Street parking may be hard to get but public parking lot nearby. Food was excellent, I had the foxtail paella, plump shrimp, mussels, sausage veggies and orzo instead of rice made it feel creamier, full portions. The "big wood" was a tasty whiskey drink, but the Negroni was a little too bitter. Everyone in our group enjoyed their meal. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable about all the menu items and made good recommendations, fast attentive and good service.
Another visit today- amazing! This visit had the crab claws which were spectacular! The claws were over a bed of fries covered by a tarragon butter sauce! Delicious! I paired with a lovely Bordeaux blanc- a perfect combination! The service was excellent. They have a nice outdoor space, but I chose a lovely table inside to enjoy the ac and atmosphere. A lovely afternoon.
Food and atmosphere is so cute! The food was all great. I got the mushroom flatbread, although feel like it could have used more mushrooms tasted great. Most of the breakfast entrees that everyone else in our party ordered came with a hefty portion of potatoes that mostly got wasted so keep that in mind when ordered if you're sharing. Coffee and service was great though

The Foxtail has such a beautiful ambiance, but we chose to sit outside on a beautiful day during an impromptu lunch date. We started with the lobster dynamite. It was okay, I don't think I'd order it again. I had been super curious about it after seeing the pics and reading other reviews, so maybe it had been hyped up a little in my head, but it just reminded me of warm seafood salad. The shawarma my husband had was good, he enjoyed the dish. My chicken was spectacular! Definitely the reason I would return. The portion was perfect and the chicken was so well done! Crispy yet juicy, moist and delicious. The service was great, very friendly and attentive without being overly so.
Foxtail has officially become one of our favorite spots for date night! We sat outside on their gorgeous patio and the atmosphere was absolutely perfect--romantic, relaxed, and just the right vibe for a summer evening. The drinks were super refreshing and had a strong kick--exactly how cocktails should be. We started with the lamb and kefta kebab, which came with hummus, salad, and warm pita. The kebab was insanely tender and juicy, full of flavor in every bite. Next up were the chicken wings, and wow--tossed in the most mouthwatering sauces, juicy, crispy, and cooked to perfection. But the real star of the night? The flatbread with pork sausage and Calabrian chili. Hands down one of the best flatbreads I've ever had. Perfectly balanced spice, crispy edges, and loaded with flavor. We finished with the chocolate coffee crunch cake topped with ice cream. Rich, indulgent, and perfect for sharing--though I could've easily eaten the whole thing myself. Everything was spot on--from the service to the food to the ambiance. Can't wait to come back again soon. High highly recommend!!
Delish and delightful! Gorgeous atmosphere, tried and true variety of East getting along great with west, us three enjoyed a brunch time with a spicy yellow cocktail and a fantastic spicy bloody Mary complete with shrimp and bacon. I was surprised the menu kept going then realized the wine list shames the food! How do people decide?! Thankfully the staff seems capable to assist but we didn't need guidance. Tried the pork belly omelet special, burger, and I had the something I don't know how to spell! That egg tomato sauce sausage dish! Unfortunately I couldn't find any sausage at all during my eat, which was the main reason to get it. The others did much better finishing off their dishes quickly. I can see this being the main hotspot for downtown Downers for years to come and perhaps they'll add a couple more burgers, savory crepe, and southern shrimp and grits to the plates.

I frequent this establishment nearly every time I'm in the Chicagoland area, and the thing they do best is consistency. I've been here dozens of times and every visit they get 5 stars across the board. From service, to atmosphere, to food - great place.
It was pretty nice dining in there the food overall was nice. Kids liked their burgers, dishes were good except I didnt really like paella much as it lacked flavor and smelt and tasted overly fishy.
My wife and I went to dinner at The Foxtail and loved everything about it. The atmosphere was fantastic and our server made some amazing recommendations for every course. I started with the Rhyme & Reason which was outside of what I normally order but absolutely loved it. For appetizers, we had the Brick Oven Roasted Couliflower and Merguez Flatbread. Both were great and the flatbread was perfectly spicy. My wife had the Shrimp Poke Bowl and added edamame and I had the Herb Brined Pork Chop based on the recommendation of our server. My wife said her poke bowl was perfect and the porkchop was one of the best I've ever had. Very juice, perfectly cooked, and the shrimp and accompaniments were a perfect match. We finished off the meal with the Double Mousse Carrot Cake which is a must-have. It was a unique mix of mousse, cream cheese, caramel, and carrot cake that paired perfectly. Highly recommended, we will be back soon!
First of all, the restaurant has a very modern, cool design. The service was really great too. Then their food- Wow, the small plates octopus was absolutely delicious! They don't give you a lot. I wish we ordered 2! Their shrimp saganaki (wasn't the flaming saganaki) had a tomato & feta crumbles base with grilled bread. Delish! I felt like the 1/2 baby lobster dish was just OK, more filler than lobster & not a lot of flavor. Overall, I'm glad we finally tried it, however, it was a very, very expensive lunch for 2 ($90 incl. tax/tip).
Cute restaurant with great service and a broad variety of food on the menu. They gave us the option of sitting inside or outside. The outdoor patio was cute and shielded from traffic with high wall dividers. Food wasn't the highlight, but I would come back to try other dishes. White Chocolate Pistachio Martini $14 - Not too sweet, nor too strong, good flavors. Grilled Octopus $20 - Small portion, tender octopus. Chicken Wings $17 - 8 meaty wings, naked, skin was slightly crispy and caramelized. Salmon Poke Bowl $19 - Simple and straight forward salmon poke bowl. The fries were crispy and delicious. Another great dinner at Foxtail! We had to come back to try more of the menu, and this time we ordered: * Pork belly bruschetta: 5/10. Unfortunately, this one wasn't for me. The pork belly, ciabatta, and balsamic were all good individually, but together the flavors just didn't work. It felt mismatched... * Colorado lamb kebab: 10/10. This is one of the more $$ entrées on the menu, but it's absolutely worth it. The portion was generous, the lamb was high quality, and the artichoke pesto paired really well with the rich, gamey flavor. The roasted pearl onions were a great addition too. I would definitely recommend this dish. * Foxtail paella: 8/10 flavorful orzo paella loaded with seafood. Definitely a sharing type of entree! Muhammara 6 out of 5: Amazingly flavorful. Just get it. It's sweet and savory while maintaining balance. Chicken Wings 4 of 5: I like the flavor it's supposed to have, but the sauce just doesn't stay on the wing. Just spoon on the Lebanese goodness sauce. The crisp of the chicken is great though. Short Rib 5 of 5: I also really recommend this dish. Very tender with really savory gravy that binds the dish together. Crispy duck risotto 3 of 5 The duck is nicely cooked but with no seasoning. The risotto is the same way. Nicely cooked with no flavor. I still recommend trying the restaurant. Good prices and most excellent food. read more

First time trying the Foxtail and we had a great experience! We had a few apps to start, the Maine Lobster Dynamite was our favorite with a fancy presentation and touch of heat. The burrata fig mostrada was not my favorite, and a small portion to share for $16. For my main, I got the Chirashi poke bowl which was excellent; 4 different types of fish and generous amounts of each, along with avocado and a touch of heat, would definitely get again. This place was very happening for a Saturday night so definitely make a reservation in advance! read more

Salmon is wow delish. No notes. Our server was great and attentive. Make reservations because we didn't and got lucky by getting there right before rush hour. Especially if you're not a fan of small high top tables. read more
Every time we go, this is a special place for dinner. It feels like a special occasion whenever we are here, even if it's a casual night out. The vibes inside are incredible, and the space is beautiful. The staff are so friendly and helpful, and the food just takes it over the top. Foxtail is probably my favorite restaurant in Downers Grove. On our most recent visit, we made a last minute reservation for dinner on a Friday night around 8:30. When we arrived, there were a number of tables who had finished and paid, but didn't leave their tables, which caused for a backup in seating the next guests. It totally happens, but what The Foxtail did during the interim was about the best experience I could hope for! The hostesses were super friendly and kind, and kept us up to date on when we would be seated, and the manager offered us our first round of drinks on the house. Usually, we can't decide what to get so order a handful of shareable dishes for the table, but our most recent visit, we decided to get the octopus as a starter (so deliciously fresh and crisp!), and I ordered their spin on a duck risotto and my husband got their spin on paella. The food was incredible and so filling, and we left with lunch for the next day. The Foxtail is always a great choice if you're looking for a way to turn a regular night into a special occasion. read more
Great place for solid food. Plenty of space and our group of seven got a reservation earlier in the week and got a great booth table. Big cocktail list with unique drinks like the night Morocco bourbon based take on a New York sour with passion fruit, and the jet plane, paper plane type drink with hibiscus infused aperol. Food wise the appetizers hit the spot. The octopus was cooked well with a bit of spice, but the portion was tiny. The crudo was flavorful with great melt in your mouth tuna. I had the duck confit appetizer for my entree and it was delicious. Shredded duck flavorful and moist with Brussels sprouts and hint of sweet in the sauce and pomegranate seeds. Another at our table had the duck entree and my appetizer was significantly better. The lentil soup was not to be missed. Overall, we had a delicious dinner and would love to return. read more

No notes- 10/10 I've been coming here since day 1 and it has not disappoint me thus far. When you walk in, everything is so pretty. The decor, the lighting, the layout. It's so thoughtfully curated and such a wonderfully calming dining experience. All of the food was INSANE. We had the lobster, kefta, caviar bites, literally you name it, we tried it. As you can see from my past reviews, I come to this restaurant a lot. It's one of my favorite restaurants. Last night I dined here with my sister and cousins. I started with one of my favorite drinks, smoke on the water, which is like a Paloma. The smokiness comes from the mezcal tequila. Foxtail has great cocktails and an even better bourbon list. I would love for them to bring back my favorite bourbon drink, though, buffalo soldier. Every time I dine here I ask if they can make it, and they can't for some reason. Foxtail, please add this back to your specialty cocktails. The food is very good here. I've only had one miss while dining here before and that was the lobster dynamite appetizer. This time, however, I was unimpressed with the pear salad. It was overdressed and just meh. I was expecting more. With my pear salad I had the octopus appetizer. This is phenomenal. I love the flavors and the octopus is tender. The best part of last night was our server Juan. He was very attentive, engaging and we loved the banter back-and-forth with him. FYI...this restaurant is very loud in the evening. I heard about half the conversation last night at our table. When I go to Foxtail for brunch, it's less noisy. read more

A friend of mine and I stopped here for a drink prior to dinner elsewhere and we sat at the bar. The foxtail is a cute spot that gives off a calming and relaxing vibe. There is greenery throughout and the space itself is kept beautifully lit. I tried the smoke on the water cocktail which is a mezcal based drink. I noticed this drink has been posted several times with being served in a wine glass and presented smokey. Unfortunately that was not how I received mine. The portion was meh and I was underwhelmed with it due to looking forward to the 'drama' of it coming out smokin. The taste was OK, smokey, well balanced, just nothing special about it. For a $14 drink in a downtown area I was expecting more from it. As far as service it was OK! There wasn't much interaction with staff members but since we came in for 1 drink I didn't expect more than the standard 'how is everything? do you need anything else?' We did not order anything to eat from here but I do plan to come back to try their food. read more

Drink Review Only! Happened into Foxtail to enjoy a predinner drink at their bar. The inside of the restaurant is beautifully designed with lots of textures, subtle color, fun lighting, and gorgeous bar accents. I asked for a recommendation between the Lost in Japan or The Fiona; they said to give Lost in Japan a try. The drink ended up being VERY acidic and tart but our bartender never circled back to check in to see how I liked the drink. I also wasn't able to identify most of the flavors listed in the drink description when tasting it. My friend's Smoke on the Water was much better balanced. Overall, I didn't love the one item I ordered here BUT the food that passed by looked good, atmosphere was great, and staff members we encountered were friendly. read more

I saw this on yelp and since I went to the one in Des Plaines, I thought I would try this one. I am so glad I did. I went with three other people for an appetizer. We had the grilled octopus we got two orders. It's kind of small, but it is the most tender delicious octopus. I could eat that for a meal. We had an appetizer of that and some roasted red peppers with pomegranate, pomegranate molasses and walnuts over warm bread delicious. My entrée was a CHARASHAI bowl it had salmon, Hamachi shrimp edamame FURIKAKE and very thinly sliced Serano peppers. My boyfriend had the salmon with mashed potatoes. I never order salmon out just because it's always so expensive and I could get a gigantic piece at Costco and my salmon is really good. This honestly was one of the best Salmon I've ever had and it was cooked to perfection My girlfriend's husband had a pork belly sandwich that looked amazing. I wanted to bite, but I didn't ask him. I'll have to try that again. He said it was very good and I have a tendency to believe him because he also loves good food and has eaten all over the world That atmosphere is in as cool as the one in Des Plaines but Brandon our server was awesome and the food and my blue Tokyo drink was delicious. I had the rest of my rice bowl for a little snack today and I kinda wanna go back there really soon to try more of their food. Excellent service excellent food. read more
