Had a surprise 60th birthday party for 60 people. All I can say was wow. We had the Pinnacle Cocktail Party. The Food was amazing and the service was on point. Have been going to Violette's Cellar basically since they've opened. Food was always amazing. Small portions & overpriced but food quality was great. Service was never top notch & drinks are always disappointing but guess can't have it all. Went last night with a few friends. I'm so embarrassed that it was my recommendation to go here. Restaurant has beautiful ambiance but the nasty sloppy older hostess who greets & sits guests should immediately be fired. The room we were seated in is practically the size of a postage stamp. We were basically ignored ( restaurant was dead ) One person took our drink order & brought it to the table. Another person took our food order, another person brought our food. I could have died of dehydration before getting a water refill or asked if I wanted another drink. With all the different wait staff serving us, who should I try & waive down?? Food was very good but when I say small portions, I mean SMALL. It was as if they ran out of food & tried to make plate look full by using tiny dishes & over garnish everything. We waited 17 minutes, at a completely empty table, before I asked a water server to please have someone bring us the check. Bill was astronomical!!! I tried this place when it just opened and forgot to leave a review. It was great then and is still great now. The food is delicious, offering an interesting twist on flavors for comforting, classic food. The food: The bread that comes with the table is delicious, fresh, and served warm with butter that's soft as well so no muss with spreading. That's always appreciated in place of hard bricks of butter and cold, crusty bread Seared Ahi Tuna - smallish portion but delicious and cooked well Brisket sliders - super good and that spicy tomato jam is amazing and really amps up the flavor Smoked Mac & Cheese with bacon - good sized portion, not too big not too small, with a great combo of flavors Roasted cauliflower and fried cauliflower - both were good although the fried one was a but too fried for my liking. The cumin aioli that accompanies it is delicious! Patatas Bravas - not the best of this dish I've had but not bad at all. It's a good mix of regular and purple potatoes, small, whole with a good amount of sauce on top. I think it should be given on the side but that's an opinion. The sauce could be better. Pistachio cake with strawberry ice cream - it was super good. The flavors were on point, the cake was nice and dense and the ice cream was a perfect pairing. I ordered the "One L" cocktail, it was good, nothing special, but a good cocktail with a good balance of flavor They have a slightly limited offering of the common whiskeys so we ordered the Lagavulin. It was super smokey and a great whiskey. They don't carry Glenfiddich, which is a good, common order. The decor and ambiance are great as well! I did take a star down because of the staff, however. They were not rude or anything of the sort however it did seem like they were either understaffed or new without training. We had several different waiters, which I'm not crazy about. One was a busser/waiter, the other a bartender/waiter. They had a pretty large party that night so maybe that was the reason but it seemed like they were disorganized. We waited quite a bit for each drink order, as well as roughly 20 minutes, if not more, for the dessert to come out. I get it, you're busy. We also had the misfortune of being seated at the table right near the thermostat and I guess someone was complaining of it being hot inside (it was fine) so random waiters, and what I think is the manager, kept coming and asking us to check if it was set to "cool." I get it, limited access, but it was quite annoying to have to constantly move around and try to read the display. The same person I perceived to be the manager made an odd appearance, after we ordered dessert, and was like, "so um, everything good?" Yep, everything was good. We ordered more than we needed so asked for our food to be wrapped up. They did but my remaining sliders weren't packaged for us, which I only noticed back home. It was definitely upsetting because I really liked them and was too full to finish them there and had planned on doing so later in the evening. All in all, on a less busy night, I'm sure they would have gotten 5 stars from me, but several things really put a tiny bit of discomfort on the evening. read more

I had made a reservation for a table of 4 for for my birthday brunch on a Sunday at 11 AM. Around 10:30 AM I called because I needed to adjust the reservation a bit.. they told me they had no availability until 11:45 AM the earliest. We ended up getting there around 11:35 AM and the restaurant only had a few full tables. I'm not sure why they told me that there was no availability. The decor in the resultant was nice and the chairs were comfy - not something I usually notice, but it was nice. My friends enjoyed the complimentary croissants. I did not have one because I've never been a fan. We had ordered an array of food and beverages for our table. Butternut squash omelete + fries - just okay - definitely missing something/ fries were good Philly cheese steak + eggs - miss/ very mapley/ sweet? Sally's French toast + extra bacon - enjoyed Truffle Egg toast + extra bacon - enjoyed We also ordered BLT Bloody Marys/ Bloody Marias (tequila instead of the vodka) which were just not up to snuff for $9 each. One lowly piece of bacon and one piece of lettuce. I really felt gypped. Bloody Marias are my all time favorite drink and I was truly disappointed in the flavor. Definitely a miss. Waitstaff was friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, the food/drinks were expensive (just about $130 for 4 brunch and drinks + tip on top of that) and we really were not that satisfied overall. I hosted my sister-in-law's baby shower at Violette's Cellar this past weekend and it was absolutely perfect! We had the brunch buffet in the Button Room with 35 people and were taken care of by June. June was so attentive to our party from the moment we started setting up until the last guest left. The buffet was fantastic, and at a very reasonable price, and all of the food was incredibly delicious. The pancake and omelet station was a huge hit with our guests. The room was the perfect size for our party and the decor worked great with our Harry Potter theme. I am so grateful to Violette's Cellar for helping to make this baby shower as special as it was. Ambiance and food are great. I've gone for brunch multiple times and they never disappoint. The location on Hylan Blvd is sucky for any business there but I've been there prior to the renovation when it was a crab house and it has changed so much for the positive. One thing I'd also like like to commend the restaurant on is how generous they are. When you go you can read a bit of history and cancer battle on the back of the menu and overall the establishment and the message is amazing. I hope people continue to go and help keep the doors open. It is definitely a gem (I would say hidden but the outside far from blends in) read more

I went here for a brunch with my three friends. We were given our brunch menu and then ten minutes later, the waiter came over and said sorry, I have to take them back, we are now on dinner menus, it was 3:25 pm. The place is warm and inviting. Decor is beautiful. Our waiter was nice but not very knowledgeable with the food and drinks but he tried. The drinks were good. I had a man bun which is hibiscus and Tito's vodka. Very good. I ordered the skirt steak with whipped potatoes. The flavor was good but it was cold, so was my friend. I hate cold steak. I was afraid to give it back to the waiter because he was so overwhelmed. Spoke to a lady on the phone when booking a reservation and she said i could do the regular dinner menu and when we got there they said only prefix menu which was $80 a person. horrible place with horrible prefixed options. read more

Had a horrible experience here. I was seated by a table of screaming, crying children jumping around which was definitely not the environment I thought it would be. The food was average tasting, nothing really memorable but I can't complain about it as the prices were reasonable. The place was understaffed and it took a while to get our orders taken. The management is unprofessional and allowed other guests without masks to get into our personal space during the covid pandemic, which I feel is very unsafe. It felt more like eating at a playground than a brunch spot. I personally felt discriminated by the manager, Marina, as she antagonized us, while the party with irresponsible parents and children running around got away scot-free. On top of all this, they tried overcharging me by sneaking in two extra drinks on my bill that we never ordered. read more

Violette's Cellar. I came here in a group of 6 for my friend's birthday brunch. Behind us was a 7 year old girl's birthday brunch. There were balloons, about eight kids under the age of ten running around. Once we sat down, the kids were running around and knocked down one of their chairs. The father was standing there telling the child to pick up the chair. My friend rushed over to help the child pick up the chair. The father nor the child said thank you. The child was of age to know her manners and should've been taught such. Heck, the father was old enough to have some manners too. From the moment we sat down at 12:30pm till the moment we left at 2pm, there were a bunch of kids running around, flying their balloons everywhere, hitting our chairs. We didn't say anything because it's a kids birthday. Granted, it's a KIDS' birthday at a BRUNCH place. Maybe they should've went to Chuck E. Cheese. But still, we didn't say anything. Not to the parents, not to the Violette Cellar's staff. We moved our tables away from their table by 3-5 Inches (As much as we had space to do so during this outdoor dining phase). We moved to give space between the kids and us so they would stop running into us. They continued to run into us. We continued to not say anything. We continue with our brunch, the waiter took a long time to serve us. By the end of our meal, the table behind us started packing and leaving. They had a big number 7 balloon and other smaller balloons which they were trying to pack with them to go. All the balloons were now hitting us in the head over and over again. We still didn't say anything. My friend blocked my head with her hand so i wouldn't get disturbed again. At this point, the dad of the birthday girl accidentally popped one of balloons. The mom turned around and started screaming at us, telling us not to touch the balloons. Keep in mind, my friend didn't touch their balloon at all. The fan was blowing the balloon around and it popped. She kept yelling at us not to touch the balloon, but it's ok that your children and balloons to be hitting me my entire meal? we were disturbed the entire meal and didn't complain once. Because we knew it was just a kid's birthday. Now the mother is screaming at us, and we tell them to keep packing and leave. They were disturbing us the entire time. The dad started waving his checkbook in my friend's face ALMOST smacking her. And at this point we said don't get in our face and Please just leave. The father was in front of me and the mother behind me yelling at my friend when suddenly the mother tapped me on the shoulder three times. Now, you can talk, you can scream, you can yell, but DO NOT put your hands on another person, especially during this time with COVID. That's just asking for trouble. Do not put your hands on anyone. And I stood up, and I said don't touch me. At this point, this lady named Marina told my friend that we can't be doing that here. Immediately accusing us for starting trouble, why? I don't know. We didn't start anything. We didn't say anything the entire time. The mother got angry because the balloon was hitting us the entire brunch time, her children kept running into our chairs? Now here's Marina asking us to tell her what happened. My friend said "why are you only asking us? we don't have to explain anything." Marina didn't talk to the Family at all. She was only talking to us. Since she wanted an explanation so badly, I asked for the manager, Marina claimed to be one. I told her what happened, and she didn't apologize for the inconvenience. She wasn't sincere in whatever she was saying to us. She was speaking in a sarcastic tone. Terrible customer service. Already not a good start when she only spoke to us and told US "you can't do this here". But "this" was the screaming. The mother screamed at us first, then the father almost smacked my friend in the face with his checkbook, then the mother tapped me. Again, you don't touch other people. You can be verbal, but not physical. We asked for the check, and Marina brought it to us. We doubled checked the bill, and we were charged two extra items. We got that fixed. As we walked out, the MANAGER, Marina, should've apologized. She didn't look at us. She didn't acknowledge us. Is that proper customer service? Is that the proper way to handle the situation? Should she have spoken to the family and TRULY tried to resolve this issue? Instead of just talking to us, and immediately blaming us for the situation. read more

I recently booked Violette's Cellar for my husbands 30th birthday. I had the button room with its own bar and about 45 people! It was perfect , the appetizers were delish and kept on coming ! The chicken pot pie empanadas were amazing and the buffet was delish! Violette's chicken, penne vodka and Caesar salad. I had a Dj , which gave It a lounge type atmosphere! Perfect for a 30th birthday party! The bartender Kayla was awesome and the drinks were on point! Top shelf open bar! Rodrigo and Phil were great with helping me make sure I was comfortable and had everything I needed! The room was set up like a cocktail hour and plenty of space to move around and dance and mingle! The menu read very well and the food presented very nice as well. When it came out we had high hopes because it did look very good. Unfortunately everyone at the table left a little disappointed. Grilled chicken with avocado and quinoa. Quinoa and avocado were actually good. Chicken was a little bland. Chicken and waffles...were ok. Chicken was dry and also a little bland. Waffle was OK. Cheesesteak and eggs. Steak was a little lackluster and it had too many layers of sweet with the onion and bun. Fries were good. Lobster Benedict. Eggs were overdone and the yolks were hard. Lobster tail also seemed steamed not butter poached. A little overlooked too. Sriracha hollandaise was good though. All in all...kind of underwhelmed. I have been wanting to try Violette's Cellar for quite some time now. I made reservations for a party of four for Father's Day through a website called OpenTable. The reservation was placed a week in advance. I get a phone call two days before Father's Day from Violette's Cellar about changing our time from 1:15 to either 1:00 or 1:30. I called back and said 1:00 is fine. The next day, I get another phone call asking if we are coming to our reservations. Again, I called back to confirm our 1:00pm reservation. I just thought it was a little annoying that I had to call twice just to confirm my reservation especially when it was made a week before. Violetta's Cellar is a beautiful place with unique decor. It seemed clean and a fairly new restaurant. We were seated right away and our waiter was pleasant. Everything seemed to fall right in place from seating us to getting our orders. Once our food came the service just went downhill. My family and I ordered the Philly cheesesteak and eggs, Lobster Benedict, Crab cake spring roll and potatoes and eggs with side order of sausage. The food was okay at best. I did have high expectations from Violette's Cellar based on reviews from friends and family. Perhaps their dinner menu might be better than their brunch menu. For the price of each dish, some of the portions could be bigger, especially the crab cake spring roll ($17). In my opinion, the crab cake spring roll could be served as an appetizer as opposed to an actual entree. The portion size was just too small. As for the service, we were initially pleased with our waiter from the moment we were seated. However, after we received our food, we did not see him at all. Nobody asked us how our food was or if we needed anything else. One of the servers came to pick up our empty plates and left. We sat there looking for our waiter but he was nowhere to be found. I had to catch someone else's attention so we can get the check. It was only then did we finally see our waiter. We were not offered to see the dessert menu or if we wanted any tea or coffee. Overall, we left Violette's Cellar disappointed. I definitely wish I had booked somewhere else to spend our Father's Day brunch. I hope that Violette's Cellar can find a way to improve their service and food and be consistent. It seems like they have something going for themselves but there is definitely more room for improvements. read more

I love supporting local businesses. I decided to try this place with a group of friends for a birthday dinner. It's definitely a good place to celebrate. They have lots of drinks, a happening bar, tapas style food perfect for sharing and a festive atmosphere. I have to knock off two stars for the weird, terrible bus boy experience. We had bought drinks at the bar before sitting down. Once we sat down, the bus boy poured water into my friend's wine glass (the water is served in wine glasses so I understand the confusion). No big. I said "oh, that was wine." And the bus boy screams at me "No! It was water!" Huh? We just let it go because we didn't want them messing with our food and we were a huge group on weekend night. I would have given it 0 stars bc he was rude, wasted my friend's wine without replacing it and then we had to ask another bus boy for a water glass so my friend could have water. The head chef/manager/owner (IDK which) kept checking on us and asking how the food was. He seemed really interested and caring. The waiter was polite and professional. The food was OK, I recommend the spinach pie, cheese plate and grilled octopus. My 5 friends liked it very much. read more

Didn't get the chicken and waffles we were supposed to get or "freshly baked" croissants, then on top of that the set brunch price per head doesn't include juice or coffee. We went for an additional $60 on coffee and juice. I brought 2 children that didn't eat under 2 And they charged us $20 per child and 1 adult that didn't eat was charged also. RIP OFF!!!! On top of that the food was garbage. We went to McDonald's directly after and I got Myself and Egg McMuffin. I won't be coming back to try the dinner after this poor experience. I love how pretty this place is; it even stands out & isn't hard to miss when you're passing by it on Hylan Blvd. (pretty violet lights & flower painted walls). The decor & design is very beautiful inside, so you'll definitely get some pretty pics! There's even a little photo booth room to get a good selfie in. You can book a table on OpenTable which is recommended for the weekends. Attire is business casual. I have no complaints about the food. My favorite small plate dishes: fried calamari, chicken pot pie empanadas (A MUST ORDER), smoked Mac & Cheese & the seared ahi tuna. Favorite large dish to share was the 48oz Tomahawk Ribeye & Lobster Tasting! *** JUST A TIP: their food is made to share! So they do recommend 2-4 small plates per person as a full meal. When you arrive you don't know what to expect. Walking in you greeted by the hostess and you walk down some stairs to a hidden gem. Decked out like a winery cellar it's really cool. For one it's decorated in my favorite color purple, and the place is named after the owners mother. Super sweet. The food was very flavorful, but it lacked some key elements. I've been wanted to try this place for a while. I decided to check it out over brunch with a friend. We arrive on time and the hostess (lovely manner and customer service) seats us. Beautifully decorated and great vibe, decor gets a 5. Which bumped the overall stars WAY up. We order our drinks. I had white sangria, quite refreshing and not too sweet. My friend ordered one of the alcoholic coffee drinks, also tasty and not too sweet. So I decide to order the lobster eggs Benedict. My companion the truffle toast. At which point the waiter suggests we order the side of potatoes (at 9$ a pop). I thought that was weird. So my friend asks about what the portion sizes are. The waiter hems and haws and doesn't really answer our question so we order the potatoes. My food shows up , order is wrong. I asked for them to substitute their sriracha hollandaise for plain hollandaise and put it on the side. The eggs are on one postage stamp size piece of toast. Is bread REALLY that expensive? And the lobster, I know what a 5oz tail looks like. No way that was 5 ounces, 3 maybe. I hate restaurants that are stingy on purpose to force you to order more dishes. My friends "truffle toast" was meh. Bottom line, although the place is pretty the food isn't worth the price tag. Perhaps getting a few drinks at the bar. Not food though read more

*sigh* I am saddened to write this review about the experience I had this Saturday evening. I've been at Violette's Cellar once 3 months ago with my mom for brunch and absolutely loved it. The food, the service, the decor- everything was fabulous! I have been raving to everyone about this place since then and have been so eager to come back. My dad and I were in Staten Island and decided to come here for dinner. I called ahead to find out about the wait time and was told there is no wait. On our way there I continued to rant about how great my experience was the first time I was here. When we arrived we were seated in the back room. When I asked if we can be seated in the main dining room I was informed that it would be a 30-45 min wait. Just being in the back room already killed the vibe. The main dining room is gorgeous, with the large cushiony violet chairs and the wine cellar decor. The back room was barely lit (at one point the lights got brighter..then later on in the night dimmed again. Not sure if this was meant to be this way or if they were having an issue with the lights.). The chairs were plain silver chairs. Also, we began to feel that the back room may be a bit ignored by the wait staff (as I at this point was still comparing how awesome my initial dining experience was and was now in disbelief over the quality of service we received tonight)..and our experience totally went downhill from here. We ordered the duck molé tacos, pear & bleu cheese empanadas, smoked mac & cheese, and the brisket sliders to share. We were served bread and butter to start. We also ordered the crème brûlée and the spring rolls for dessert. Quality of the food here still deserves 5 stars. Service deserves 2, and that's being generous. During the first half of our meal nobody refilled our water glasses until they were practically empty and then we still had to wait until someone eventually came around. We were first brought the mac & cheese and empanadas. The bus boy took the plate away from my dad while there clearly was still mac & cheese on it and he was not done eating. Then we waited at least 30 minutes before the other 2 plates were brought out. Our waiter did not check up on us even once to ask how the food was during our main meal (he did then inquire about how we liked the dessert..but he totally sensed that we were beyond annoyed at that point). However, we noticed that the waiters did approach the surrounding tables. Next we ordered dessert. We placed the dessert order at around 8:15/8:20 PM and our waiter came over to us at 8:50 PM to say, "Let me go check up on your dessert". We were ready to cancel the order and just ask for the check. About 5 minutes after that it was finally brought out. The crème brûlée was cold. It should have been a combo of warm on top and cold on the bottom. When the waiter brought out the check he left off with a, "Thank you for being patient" remark. read more

Octopus, short rib raviolis, filet mignon, smoked mac n cheese were just ok. The "Sin & Tonic" cocktail was too sweet and too much cinnamon flavor and I couldn't drink it. Their cappuccino was not that good. Dessert sample was ok. Basically, the food is ok. Should have been hotter. Considering what the bill came to I will not be rushing back anytime soon.
