Dr. Kelly Might performed TPLO surgery on my dog, and the results have been truly excellent. Unfortunately, my dog needed surgery on both legs, done one at a time, but each procedure went very smoothly and successfully. Right before her second surgery, I needed an emergency appointment because she ended up having a total TPLO tear just three days before the scheduled procedure. The team was incredibly responsive and got her in quickly, which made a very stressful situation feel under control and reassured me that she was in the best hands. Recovery is definitely not easy--it's a long and sometimes challenging process--but Dr. Might and his team made it so much more manageable. They provided clear step-by-step instructions and scheduled regular recheck appointments, which gave me confidence and peace of mind throughout the healing journey. My cat developed respiratory distress due to congestive heart failure and we needed care fast at 2am. Violet Crown was great- my partner called to fill them in on the situation while I drove, and when we arrived they immediately took her to the back and were able to stabilize her. Their overnight vet was focused on getting us to a separate ER VET for an echocardiogram asap (which they don't offer at Violet Crown), but we opted to wait so we could go to a familiar facility. He agreed to board and supervise my cat for the night, which was a huge relief. The day vet called me as soon as her shift began, reviewed Nancy's case and inquired about diagnostics we were offered in-house, and was able to offer a much more comprehensive in-house diagnostic plan with hospitalization. My cat was hospitalized for the night and had a ton of tests done, which are so helpful for diagnosis and further treatment, and Violet Crown was able to improve her state and start her on medication. The staff was kind, sensitive to the level of stress both my cat and me were experiencing, and kept me regularly updated along the way. They were willing to take the time to answer our questions and clearly care about their patients. The fact that the day vet cared enough to review my cat's case again and follow up on any unoffered options is a huge green flag, and my only complaint is that the overnight vet didn't initially offer those diagnostics. My cat's heart failure developed in part due to our primary vet missing warning signs, so it was a relief to know Violet Crown was checking and re-checking my cat's case for anything missed the first time around. They provided me with a ton of information to continue care and I would go back to them if we ever need another emergency vet. read more

This is a case where five stars is not enough. Our little Zoe was diagnosed with a large liver tumor. Through consultation with VC's Dr. Bailey and our regular vet, we decided to have Dr. Bailey remove the tumor. They were able to get her into surgery the very next day. It is now two weeks later and Zoe seems fully recovered, with obvious quality-of-life improvements to boot. Dr. Bailey is a skilled surgeon. Staff is caring and competent. My toy poodle has had to have 2 surgeries on her elbow, and VCVS has done both. In both cases, they've been amazing at communicating before, during and after the procedures and recovering her with such loving care post-op. The first accident occurred just prior to Thanksgiving holiday in 2023 and Dr Katie Kennedy was the only vet in town willing to work my baby in for surgery that week. She was so invested in making sure she was ok and gave us incredible results with such tiny little bones that were repaired beautifully. I am beyond grateful and thankful for everyone at Violet Crown. My sweet Rottie was diagnosed with bone cancer in February. I met with a couple of oncologists in Austin to figure out the best treatment. Ultimately, I went with Dr. Brehm and her treatment plan which was to amputate the back leg and do 6 rounds of chemo. Dr. Kennedy did Mack's amputation and was so grea throughout the entire surgery day keeping me informed and constantly communicating updates to me. Forrest and Casey were predominately my oncology techs and always so warm every time we came in for a chemo treatment. Today was his last round and his scans are clear and he is moving around so great -I thought not having a leg would really slow him down, but it has not! After his major surgery, the team was on-call for me 24/7 - someone was always responding to texts/emails for my questions and concerns. It was truly such a comforting feeling during this emotional and hard journey. I can't say enough good things. We scheduled our golden retriever, Amber, for straightforward larynx tie-back surgery. With age and paralysis, her airway had narrowed and breathing was increasingly difficult. She was a good candidate per our vet: strong and otherwise healthy. After surgery, we received a call saying the procedure went well. She was monitored overnight, and we were told to pick her up the next morning. Still, no problems. Managing surgeon, Dr. Might, said he had examined her and just a "disappointing" level of noise when breathing. We were stunned when she was brought to us. She looked miserable: unsteady, still struggling to breathe, and eyes glazed. We were both shocked. This was very obviously not a dog that was "recovering well." I asked to see a doctor twice. For some reason, nobody was available. We just wanted to get her home, hoping that once she slept off the apparent drug dosage, the reports of successful outcome would come true. Instead, once home, she worsened and started fighting suffocation. It was torture for all of us. We took video and sent it to the clinic. About an hour and half after arriving home, she was in desperate crisis and we had no choice but to get her back to clinic. She stopped breathing with the movement to car. My husband (40-yr ER doc) tried to clear mucus with a baster just so she could breathe. Dr. Might called and I explained that my husband was rushing back to clinic. I was following. With minutes lead time, Dr. Might did not even alert staff that a critical, dying dog was arriving. My husband had to run in to reception to get help. By that time, we could not put her through more trauma and we let her go. We have spent considerable time with Dr. Might on the phone. But he and staff have now concluded that Amber was fine when discharged and implied it is our fault for not returning her to clinic. They say video shows her making it out the door to be carried to car. But it was her increased breathing difficulty that was the issue!! Their stories have all changed over days. Medical bills and reports to us do not match the final narrative as all in the clinic "got on the same page." Bottom line, Amber had surgery and it reportedly went well, but there was a disastrous reversal. She was not re-examined as she was discharged. She was in no condition to be far from an oxygen kennel. And putting her through the ordeal of carrying her back to car, once home, returning to clinic, in her desperate state was unthinkable. We finally had to take her back, and it was too difficult for her. We waited for days to hear from Violet Crown that they regret the error and that procedures have changed to require a qualified vet exam of any surgery patient that is showing signs of complications or reversal before discharge. Releasing her in that condition, the misinformation, and subsequent contradictions are inexcusable. Our beloved dog deserved so much better. We suffered along with her, and will never forget. read more

don't think I have words to describe how amazing our experience has been with Violet Crown Veterinary Specialists, but I am sure going to try because they deserve all of the praise. We were referred here in January of 2024 by our regular vet after she discovered a mass in our dog Huey's neck. Violet Crown was able to get us in & assessed quickly, and it was determined that Huey would need surgery to remove his mass. We had experiences with all 3 of the major veterinarians at this practice during our time here. Dr. Kennedy did his surgery. She was kind, communicative, and did a great job. His surgical site was clean, and he was up and back to his usual self within a few days. Dr. Might did his follow up appointment with us, and he was also incredibly kind and personable. We also spoke with Dr Tabares while Huey was in recovery & doing medical boarding pre surgery, and he was also incredibly helpful. After surgery, Huey was diagnosed with an aggressive form of 2 different cancers, but fortunately we were introduced to Dr. Amanda Brehm who is their oncologist on staff. I have never met a more kind, compassionate, and skilled provider. She helped us develop a plan to manage Huey's cancer & try to give us as much time as possible with him. Unfortunately Huey's cancer was very aggressive, and we ended up having to help him transition out of his life earthside. It's never an easy choice, but Dr. Brehm and her staff treated us with so much kindness and empathy around it. The experience itself was as calming, loving, and supportive as it could be. I wouldn't wish doggy cancer on any family, but if your family is facing this scary diagnoses I can assure you that Violet Crown will be an amazing group of folks to have on your side. I wouldn't have wanted anyone else to help support us through such a difficult experience other than Violet Crown. Everyone from the doctors to the vet techs & admin staff was so sweet and helpful. They all would remember Huey when we would come in for appointments, and loved him just like we did. They never got frustrated or short tempered with me calling 20 times a week with questions or concerns lol. They were always there willing to help in any way they could. They were just an amazing team to have, and I am incredibly grateful for this group of providers for supporting us during this difficult time. We were so grateful to have found such a caring facility to care for our elder dog that became ill on Xmas eve. Dr. Might, Ali and the rest of the staff were so compassionate and professional guiding us through options which included surgery. In such a stressful and uncertain time the loving care they took of our dog sending us pictures after surgery and keeping us posted before/after plus answering an endless supply of questions was so comforting. We were referred by our local vet to a surgeon at VC to have a polyp removed. We called VC and wanted to go ahead and bring him in because there was some bleeding. We were told that the surgeon could probably see him. We took him in, no surgeon available, and paid $190 to learn that the surgeon would need to see him. They scheduled another visit. At the next visit, they had a surgeon and an oncologist (which we didn't request) who agreed that he needed surgery. That was another $400ish for the consult. The estimate for the surgery was very high. We took our pet to another surgical center in Austin and spent less than half what was estimated at VC and our pet received very good care. It was really upsetting to spend so much, after spending at our vet, just to hear what we already knew-he needed surgery. read more
