    Cooper

We took our 16 year old dog to VEG in Cedar Park a little over a week ago. They immediately triaged him and made a diagnosis of an inverted (flipped stomach). They took all the precautionary measures to ensure his condition did not worsen while we decided the best course of action. The lead nurse Drew, Lily, Dr. Coulter, Dr. Naqvi, Dr. McDonald, Dr. Pritchett, and the entire team went out of their way to make sure Cooper received the best care possible. The surgery went exceptionally well and his recovery is too. Thank you!

Her primary vet has recommended and continued the same treatment. We were told by the Central Texas Vet that if this situation should arise again, provide an extra dose of the furosemide and take her to an emergency vet. The morning of the emergency, our dog refused to take her medication which prompted the visit. Upon arrival, a tech took her to the back treatment area. We were taken to a treatment room to wait for the veterinarian. When the Dr. arrived to discuss medical history, we conveyed all listed above and had the diagnosis on the phone to show him. We stated what the previous emergency vet had done when she experienced a similar situation; placed her in oxygen chamber and provided a high dosage of meds (same listed above.) He stated that she was likely in an uncontrolled chronic heart failure (CHF); however, couldn't rule out other issues. After conveying all to the Dr., we were taken back to see her prior to being asked to leave. While we were visiting with her and talking with the tech, the tech expressed that they needed to conduct x-rays and assessments. We conveyed to the tech and the Dr. that the stabilizing of her breathing should be priority prior to x-rays, especially since we had the diagnoses with same symptoms from just 4 months prior. We became frustrated when the tech asked us to leave because we were questioning the level of treatment being provided. The tech was beyond rude after we started inquiring. The oxygen chamber which they had placed Loli in did not feel like oxygen was flowing, especially when compared to the other Emergency vet clinic we had taken her to in April. Had we known the limited amount of Furosemide that had been provided to our dog (only a fraction of what her normal dosage) during her treatment, we would have, again, brought this to the staff's attention. We firmly believe that had she been given the baseline amount of Furosemide (6.25 mg via IV immediately which she had been taking for the last four months), then subsequent additional increased dosages, she would still be alive today. Unfortunately, we had no idea how much medication was being given to her during the treatment as we were asked to leave the facility upon questioning the sequencing of her treatment and focusing on x-rays to validate what was already told to them. We were told it was the maximum amount of medication she could receive. The utter disgust and mistrust we have in this facility cannot be understated. Now, we have another chihuahua who has not been separated from her in 12 years, alone and refusing to eat, engage, or anything else. I will never recommend this location to anyone needing care for a loved pet and we firmly believe that they were NEGLEGENT in their treatment of our dog.

It seemed like there was always another test, treatment, or add-on being pushed, even for routine appointments. I understand recommendations are part of veterinary care, but the constant pressure made the experience uncomfortable and expensive. Overall, I wouldn't personally recommend Buttercup Veterinary Hospital based on my experience. We've raised German Shepherds for years, so we're very familiar with the breed and common skin and allergy issues. My son's GSD is currently visiting, and I stopped by Buttercup Veterinary Hospital simply trying to purchase more of the medicated shampoo they had previously recommended for itchy skin. I was denied because my own GSD, who was a patient there and was ultimately put down at their clinic, had passed away, so I was told I was no longer considered a current patient. Losing my dog was heartbreaking, and the interaction felt cold and unnecessarily transactional. Unfortunately, that experience reinforced my overall feeling that this clinic focuses more on upselling appointments and services. Find a vet who doesn't shut people out when their pet passes away.

My poor boy. We called around and were luckily referred to Parmer Lane Pet Hospital. They answered the phone and were extremely helpful & had genuine concern about our problem. They had availability & said as soon as we can get there. So we opted for the next appointment spot. When we walked in, we were greeted with smiling faces and quickly checked into the exam room. Our vet tech, Amanda, came in and quickly accessed Hobbes, asked us some questions to get his baseline down. She also offered him some treats, which he loved! He's pretty picky normally, so of course I had to find out what kind they were so we can buy them for him. (Pic attached) She also let him explore and he was very happy about that as well. Then Amanda walked out and back in with Dr Thevis. Dr Thevis said hi to Hobbes. Gave him some pets and told him how cute he was while checking him for any other injuries since we explained we thought Hobbes got a scratch from his sister when they were playing. Thankfully no other injuries. Dr. Thevis and Amanda kept Hobbes very calm and put a yellow dye in his eye so that we could see if he had any scratches. He blinked a few times, but didn't seem to care because it happened so quickly. Dr Thevis showed us with a black light how a scratch/cut/inflammation would light up in his eye. Unfortunately he has a corneal ulcer. We were given eye drops, a cone, and then asked to schedule a recheck so we can make sure he gets better. The next day, his eye had some gunk in it, and I was so concerned! I called Parmer Lane and Dr. Thevis was not in, however the receptionist (sorry I forgot her name) answered the phone and was so sweet and caring and told me that they would have a vet tech answer my questions and give me a call back as soon as possible. She also said if I had not heard back by lunchtime to give them a call again. The number they have on file is my husband's and he did not answer his phone, but they left us a detailed message. The following day, they called us again to make sure that we had gotten the voicemail and were not worried about his eye. I thought it was so thoughtful to call back just to make sure that we had gotten their previous message. I called in to reschedule the recheck appointment and it was a breeze! Everyone who works here seems to genuinely want to help you! The level of care, concern, and customer service from the team at Parmer Lane Pet Hospital is 10/10. You guys are doing everything right. Thank you so much for making finding a new vet so easy. Definitely referring my friends.

I see why she came here, as every vet and tech we interacted with was a world more experienced and compassionate than we've seen anywhere else. Other vets we had seen after she left wouldn't even give us guidance or concern for her condition, so we had tracked down our doc and truly, they saved her life, it bought us at least another happy year or so with our gal. In her many years of life, we'd moved lots and have seen a full spectrum of vets and emergency vet hospitals and just wow. It feels good to be able to trust the staff this well. Our gal had advanced kidney disease, but they were able to stabilize her and get us on a quality of life maintaining spot with fluid therapy. We had a vacation, and a tech was able to make home visits to help out while we were gone to keep our girl in good shape. It's been around a year since she passed, and we recently brought a new pup into our lives! Made our first visits this month for her shots, and it is heart warming to see all the staff again. It's a bit of a drive for us, but I really wouldn't go elsewhere.

Reason for this review: There's obviously a lot of trust involved in letting people take care of your pets and access your home. We have 100% confidence in Melissa and her team and want to share our experience because - when we were looking for long-term pet sitting - we didn't have any recommendations to help us. Five-star details: 1. Outstanding Communications. Melissa is always available, including by phone, text, and email. She does what she says she is going to do. We've spoken on the phone & Melissa has a great app which gives you updates and photos of your pet! 2. Genuine Caring. On our most recent trip, the weather got cold. Melissa's team members worked with us to turn on our well heater, ensure our pup was kept warm and cozy, and gave us detailed updates and photos. 3. Going Above & Beyond. Melissa called me about the cold weather to alert us in case we didn't know it was going to be below freezing and to ensure our pet was fully taken care of. Her team actually plays with your pet, spends real quality time, and ensures your pet feels loved. They brought our dog extra treats which was incredibly thoughtful because our dog is a senior citizen - and they actually know about dogs so they brought treats that are great for his health as well as being yummy!
