They just injected my dog and sat there watching me hold my dog with zero privacy with both of them looking on with autistic looking stare their faces. I brought my other dog in for a dental visit. Dr. Warren forced me to give him a rabies vaccine, which I am pissed off at myself about after hearing all the stories of animals dying from the rabies vaccine and getting turbo, cancers and tumors at the injection site which I showed her from a previous Rabies And tried to tell me that it was a fatty deposit which was total bullshit! I have a multi-dog home and Dr. Pete Edquist has been our veterinarian since he first opened his clinic. He has seen us through the entire gamut of furry-kid emergencies ranging from wellness check-ups to emergency surgeries and, finally, gently helping our older pets at the end of their time with us. Pete has always treated each of our four-legged babies with kindness and affection and has shown great respect for our feelings and concerns. Our dog had surgery recently at West Side Veterinary Clinic. On a Monday, my ex and I sat in Dr. Edquist's office with our dog. 2 days later, he performed surgery on our dog. Later that evening, I learned there had been another treatment....not invasive, less expensive. In response, Dr. Edquist said he had told us that "repeatedly." My ex and I are very well educated and intelligent and yet we missed the better treatment option "repeatedly"...???....Why would anyone choose to put a pet through surgery unnecessarily and to spend more money in the process...???...Does not make any sense! Okay, for argument sake, let's say Dr. Edquist did recommend this other, better option, and we somehow missed it. Well, I was an APRN for 10 years (an RN for years before that)....admittedly my practice had nothing to do with animals or surgery, but I can tell you from working in health care that if a patient is choosing a more expensive, more invasive procedure, there would be a non-judgmental inquiry as to why (perhaps the patient is not understanding?). It just does not add up. Red Flag. Interestingly, I was speaking with a friend about my experience. In response, she told me she took her dog there once and had decided never go back because of the way her dog was treated and could have been injured. Apparently, she did not write a review...because I could not find the account she told me of what happened anywhere online. I recently had to put down my dog, after months of watching her suffer from tumors/cancer. The other clinics we went to seemed like they didn't want to talk to us about euthanasia until we got their pitch for more surgeries. So, I called around and found Dr. Pete. His staff were very polite and courteous over the phone, making me feel confident that it was the right place to take our dog to have her put to rest. I was a wreck when I brought my dog in, but they were very kind, understanding, sympathetic, and professional. We adopted a senior Labrador, Norma Jean (yes, she's a blonde!), and took her to West Side VC after a recommendation from a friend. Dr. Warren and her staff were attentive and patient, and, instead of lifting her to the exam table, they just sat on the floor around Norma for her wellness check. It was awesome! They gave her a couple tiny treats, and updated all her shots with kindness and professionalism. We are very grateful for their sweet interaction, and Norma walked out happy and content. read more

I have taken my dog to Dr. Edquist since he opened in 2011 and have been satisfied until Fri December 13th, 2013. I made an appt to have my dog, Bear, euthanized so he wouldn't have to suffer through thyroid cancer any longer...We went in at 530pm and Dr Edquist gave Bear a sedative then the blue euthanasia solution. We paid and loaded Bear into my Hummer and went home to bury him. We decided to make a headstone with his paw print in it so we left Bear in the truck while we got it ready. At 745pm, we carried Bear around to the deck and noticed he wasn't stiff, and upon closer look, saw his tongue was still pink and his body was still warm. I grabbed my stethoscope and heard a faint heartbeat and bowel sounds. I then called the Clinic main number and got a recording directing me to press 3 for emergencies prior to 9pm, I did, and was redirected to Dr. Edquist's mobile number. He answered and I stated that Bear was still alive and the signal dropped. I called again, he answered and asked "What can I do to help?" and the call dropped again. I kept calling and getting dropped another six or seven times so we decided to meet at the Clinic. At 9pm, Dr. Edquist drove up and by that time, Bear had passed away but was still warm. He listened with my stethoscope and told me what I had heard was bowel sounds and that "it takes time for things" (to cease?, for rigor mortis to set in?, for cellular death to occur?). I was a vet tech for eight and a half years before I became a nurse, so I have been around many animals that were euthanized and left for disposal and one thing I know without a doubt, is that when they die, they turn cold and get stiff very quickly, never taking two and a half hours to do so!! Dr. Edquist was obviously annoyed at having to drive back to the office and find a deceased dog, and his comment to me as he handed back my stethoscope was "this is NOT EVEN WORTHY OF DISCUSSION." I was floored with his lack of compassion and attitude! I stated that I wouldn't be arguing the point if I wasn't a nurse and hadn't worked as a vet tech for so long!! I am extremely disappointed in Dr. Edquist and one thing that may have made a bad situation less bitter would've been receiving a sympathy card or phone call afterwards, but that did not happen. read more

We have been customers of of West Side Veterinary Clinic and Dr. Pete Edquist since he established his private practice earlier this year, in Dripping Springs. He has cared for our 3 cats and 2 dogs, and most recently our little daschund "Cosmo" who was attacked viciously by another dog, and Cosmo need urgent help. It was almost closing time and when the call to this Clinic was placed we were told to "come on in. we will wait for you". We rushed to the clinic and there was Dr. Pete and Olivia waiting for us. We left Cosmo there overnight-knowing he was in the best of hands and when I went to pick him up the next day, I was so happy to see "our boy" awake and excited! We knew then he was going to be ok. I was given clear instruction in Cosmo's post op care and expected to pay alot of money for after hour care, surgery, pain and antibiotic medications and was shocked that the cost was alot less than anticipated. I can tell you from previous experiences with other Vet Clinics in town, that the cost of cosmo's care would have been at least 3 times more than what I paid for. Today, 10 days after the attack, Cosmo went back to get his stitches out and is recovering very nicely. For those of us, whose animals are loved and taken care of as members of our family would be, Dr. Pete is a Vet whom you can TRUST to care for your beloved 4 legged family members, AND who charges a reasonable price for theEXCELLENT CARE he and his staff give.
