Craving a beef on weck, all suggested Vinny's Deli in Wallingford Ct A Beef on Weck is a sandwich consisting of thinly sliced, rare roast beef, some horseradish sauce, a little au jus, served on a warmed and toasted bun, topped with caraway seeds amongst other spices. This is a sandwich that originated in Buffalo, New York, that I had the honor of eating on a regular basis when I worked in Buffalo. When this sandwich is prepared correctly, not too many types of sandwiches can top this. So expectations were high going to Vinny's Deli. And there it was on the menu, the all nighter # 54, in its glory, the beef on weck. The order was placed for two of them, as my friend Rick joined me for lunch. He never had one and was really looking forward to what he exactly was getting into. I also ordered storemade potato salad, and one of those famous oatmeal raisin cookies. I also had a lime ricky soda, and my friend had a root beer. These sodas were specially made for Vinny's and were presented so well. The total for this order of two sandwiches potato salad cookie and two sodas came to $38. I left a 15% tip. The food arrived, and let me tell you this beef on weck was simply amazing. Warm sliced roast beef that just melted in my mouth and pulled apart so easy, accompanied by just the right amount of horseradish sauce, on a slightly toasted and warmed bun. This was perfection. This was love. The potato salad which was store made also was delicious, and I liked it because it didn't have onions in it. This was on point. The two made for a store sodas were absolutely delicious. I loved that lime ricky, as it was a great choice. Now for the co-star... you must get the oatmeal raisin cookie for dessert. This was probably the best cookie of this nature I've ever had; so soft, so delicious, so made with love. Located on Center Street in Wallingford, Vinny's is easy to find, and parking is a breeze Seating is extremely limited. I think there were only four or five tables in there. Most were in there just to get the food and run, also known as takeout. This is a can't miss for sandwiches. I saw they had extensive other choices, but come for the star, the roast beef. I really enjoyed my visit here, it was local, the vibe was really cool and friendly, and the place was really clean. I noticed an ice cream store attached, which looked very inviting. I think I would stop there after having lunch here next time. Thanks to Vinny's, I really enjoyed my visit and I look forward to returning again in the near future. This was quite a haul coming from northern Connecticut down to Wallingford, but was worth every mile. I drove home with a smile on my face. read more

a very nice spot for a quick sandwich to go! they're known for their famous roast beef so i went with The Wired Up sandwich on a sub and we also made a custom sandwich with their corned beef. overall, both sandwiches were very good! the bread was nice and crunch, both the roast and corned beef were flavorful and tender. my only complaint was the way the sandwiches are built - the meat tends to be tucked in closer to the opening on the sandwich, leaving the other half with barely any meat, i had to spread it out myself. read more

Ordered 3 roast beef double meat sandwiches on Kummleweck rolls. Ordered the All Nighter, the Ana V and a 3 way. I loved them all. The Kummleweck roll really is such a nice option I have never encountered before. Also grabbed an oatmeal raisin cookie and rice pudding. I'm not often in the area, but I've been tempted to stop at Vinny's every time I drove by and saw the Elvis art and a sign boasting a Beef Monarchy. Eventually, some friends told me it was a good place and I made a point of dropping by for a recent lunch. Vinny's is mostly a sandwich shop, although I saw MANY cookies as well. There are a few tables inside and outside, but most people seemed to get takeout. The inside is comfortable and has some Elvis decor, but isn't trying to be fancy. Service was friendly and very efficient. They serviced a lot of customers quickly while I was there. I ordered a roast beef grinder called the #55 Ana V, with rare roast beef, bacon, lettuce, tomato and orange infused BBQ. I also ordered a side of au jus because I was curious. The roast beef was good-red and tender. The crusty grinder roll was very good. The orange BBQ flavor was about perfect. The other toppings were all good. I thought this was a very good sandwich. It was fun to in dip the au jus, but it wasn't necessary since the sandwich wasn't dry and already had flavor. I would probably skip it next time. I'm glad I finally visited. Five Stars read more

The second sandwich was worse, it was supposed to be a chicken cutlet but in place was pieces of undercooked white meat, the peppers were horrible. Hidden gem in CT! I'm not usually in Wallingford but my in laws said this is the BEST place for roast beef sandwiches and lobster rolls. I was skeptical at first because those are two completely different things but omg Vinny's is absolutely amazing! I shared a hot lobster roll and hot roast beef sandwich and each were absolutely phenomenal. The lobster roll tasted super fresh and was given generous pieces of lobster! The roll was delicious and buttery-just what you need for the perfect lobster roll. But wait...The roast beef sandwich! Oh man that was amazing. I got a hot roast beef sandwich with provolone and au jus and it legit just melts in your mouth! Hands down the best sandwich I ever had. I wish they had more outdoor seating because you can literally spend an entire afternoon here indulging. I ordered two turkey sandwiches and a side of coleslaw off of their website. I was driving away and realized they forgot to add the coleslaw to the bag. I checked my receipt again, and noticed that the "side" of coleslaw at $2.29 was listed under my turkey sandwich. I pulled over, looked at my sandwich and yes, it had coleslaw on it. Mind you, this was ordered as a side on their website, which is separate from the toppings and sauces sections. Also included in this section you will find sides like potato salad, pasta salad, and chips. I struggle to understand how this could have been interpreted as coleslaw ON my sandwich. Had I ordered potato salad would they have put that on my turkey sandwich? The original plan was for me and the other person who ordered a sandwich to split the coleslaw on the side, so I figured okay let me just scrape it off. Well, the amount of coleslaw added was maybe, at best, a quarter of what was in the to-go containers at the deli. Not only did they put it on my sandwich, but they charged me the full amount for next to none of it. Just overall a confusing experience. I saw Vinny's and realized I have driven by this place so many times yet never had a curiosity to go in even with their attention getting exterior. Finally I'm like let's do this! I ordered "the politician" on a hard roll with the extras of salt, pepper, pickles and yellow mustard...... my my my it most definitely hit the spot, it was thick and delicious. I'm not sure what you mean by "deli meats" but West Center Market roasts their own beef in house and slices it as needed. It is NOT "deli meat". I wouldn't know if they, or you have nitrates, since you don't display an official FDA notice concerning it that I saw. Nor an endorsement from any doctors saying it was healthy for pregnant women to consume, as you claim in your response to my original review. Neither does West Center Market. Additionally, I stated that the beef in both places was of equal quality, but West Center charges $7.49 for a GRINDER that has at least as much beef as yours.
