Great place! Ordered a #12 Sophia Loren, one of their cold cut specialties. Their own roasted turkey with thin sliced prosciutto, lettuce, tomato, and mayo. I added provolone to it. Me and my girlfriend both got chicken cutlet sandwiches from this place and they were the worst chicken cutlets I've ever seen/had, they were worst than frozen store bought. Slimy bad quality over microwave mess! Absolutely awful and a disgrace to chicken cutlets. No seasoning or breeding to be seen. I'm never disappointed with anything here. My entire family has eaten here for decades now, the reason why is -Consistency. They had construction of the roadway and bridge right on their doorstep, for 2 years or so and any other place would not have survived this. They survived and thrived and have stood the test of time, so that right there tells the story of their history of great food and service. read more

This place is nuts!!! Terrible parking-there's construction on the street in front and parking is tight. However, the patrons never stopped coming, including ME!! My friend was visiting from California and used to live in Wallingford. She recommended we go to Vinny's. She had remembered that they serve a thanksgiving styled sandwich around this time of year and wanted to see if they were still doing that. Yes! Still serving it! It's fresh roasted turkey, sliced to order, gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce served on a hard roll! I chose a (deli) turkey sandwich on rye bread. The bread was thick and fresh and like no other bread I've had. They serve many types of soft drinks that are all made in the USA. At the counter, you can add chips or a homemade cookie. As we sat there, there was an eclectic variety of "memorabilia" on the walls to enjoy. What a goldmine. Can't imagine eating anywhere else if you lived/worked in the area. read more

Excellent local deli. They make and roast their own beef and turkey, which is amazing! We had the politician, chucks baseball championship, mayor bill d, and a chicken cutlet. Portions were good size for your money. Egg salad was the best we've had locally. We really liked the turkey and the roast beef because it was way less salty than normal delis. Rolls were fresh and tasty. Wish we had gotten some cookies, but we'll get those next time. read more

They throw off the old end piece sitting in the slicer an plopped on a half cut roast. Looked an tasted like Stop & shop brand. But dry an over salted. I love finding a good sandwich place and Vinny's did not disappoint. I was torn on what to order so I got both a small lobster roll and the all-nighter roast beef sandwich. For the lobster roll, it was tasty but very small. The disappointing thing was that I ordered it online so they had it in a heat bin and the butter made the hot dog roll pretty soggy. Good amount of lobster but just not worthwhile to get here. The roast beef sandwich on the other hand was so tasty. Roast beef was so tender, juicy and thinly sliced. I never heard of a kummelwick roll before but I thought the bread went perfectly with roast beef. The sandwich was huge so ended up eating it the next day and it was still delicious. Will definitely return for the roast beef. We also tried the potato salad and macaroni salad, which were typical but very mayonnaise-y. All in all, I'm sure their sandwiches are pretty solid and I need to try some other items on the menu! read more

Can't believe I haven't reviewed Vinny's before, since they serve my very favorite Thanksgiving in a roll sandwich! My very good friend gets excited and introduced me to this limited time sandwich last year. For November & December this amazing roasted turkey breast (not regular turkey deli meat, so so much more) layered with stuffing, gravy, and cranberry is a crave worthy menu item. The deli has small tables and seating for roughly 18 I'd say inside. You order towards the back, and are called to pick up/pay in the front, or if you want phone ahead your order in. They also do catering and the prices are super reasonable. Years ago at the Durham Fair I first had a Thanksgiving Sandwich and was upset that I didn't think of the idea myself, that booth has never been at the fair again and thank God my friend introduced me to Vinny's! They are well known for their roast beef, which I've never tried only because roast beef isn't my thing, they are also known for their lobster roll and seasonal alligator, yes you read that right alligator. I haven't made it there yet for alligator but it's on my to do list. Just follow the sounds of Elvis playing in the parking lot to the front door of this deli and get ready to be wowed. read more

Has a nice little kick of spice with it (i love spice). Very very very good! Next, the gator sub, first bite was weird lol iv never had gator up until now so it was weird. But it was good! Good option to stop for lunch. Small sandwich stop with a few tables. Mostly two seats and a few four tops. You order from the counter on the right and pay on the left. You can get your regular run if the mill sandwich like turkey or ham but they have a ton of other combinations. I had the Godfather and it was sausage and mozzarella cheese with the sauce on the side. Delicious. They have a good drink selection too with their own drinks. Iced Tea, Cream Soda and Root Beer. Nice touch. The parking fills up quickly when it gets busy. You can also take out too. Service was nice and friendly. read more

I'm in Wallingford for the week and our training facility had Vinny's cater a HUGE tray of sandwiches, some potato salad and some chocolate chip cookies. So, I cant speak for service or prices, but the food was excellent! The bread for the sandwiches was VERY fresh, along with a great selection of deli meats, roast beef, and turkey. But it's the potato salad that really blew me away!! I thought only my wife made a great potato salad, but this stuff is GOLD! Creamy, flavorful potato goodness, with bits of pickle and.....pimento? and just a hint of garlic. I couldn't stay out of it. The chocolate chip cookie was soft, gooey and delicious as well.....even after waiting a couple of hours to have one. Vinny's is definitely a welcomed surprise here in Connecticut. My partner and I ate there last weekend and we looked forward to it, based on the Yelp! reviews. It was a big disappointment. I had a "politician" sandwich which is a turkey and bacon on a sub. My partner had an egg-roll sandwich with prosciutto. Don't get us wrong, the sandwiches were good -- but not great. Very much standard deli fare and almost any NY deli would be better. There was almost no mayo on my turkey/bacon and the turkey was dry. The proscuitto on my partner's sandwich also was sparse. The bread on both subs was ok, but not excellent. The price for both plus coffee was $17, which I thought was kind of expensive. So in conclusion, it's an average sandwich store. Maybe the best in Wallingford, but certainly not something you should travel out of your way to go to. And Vinny needs to do something about his love of signs, there were signs everywhere for every little thing. A bit annoying after a while. read more

I was driving down an unfamiliar street in Wallingford when I saw Vinny's sign and the 3D sandwich jutting from the side of the building. How could I not stop in at a place displaying confidence like that? I don't know what I was expecting, but I was very surprised on reading the description of item #54: "Hot roast beef, horseradish, and au jus on a Kummelweck roll." I'd heard about beef-on-Wecks (or is it beefs-on-Weck?), and understood them to be a specialty of western New York. I'd never have expected to find one in south-central Connecticut, but here it was, apparently! The roll had a light amount of caraway and coarse salt compared to photos I'd seen, but it was plenty for me. The beef was satisfyingly tender, juicy, and flavorful, helped by the au jus; there was enough horseradish to accent the beef, but not enough to overtake it or even burn my sinuses. I could see how some might find it insufficient, but I'm sure you could get more if you asked. The place itself was pretty roomy, and dominated by attractive wood paneling along the length of the counter. There was a sign advertising soup, but the placeholders on it were empty, which was disappointing as they didn't seem to have any sides other than chips or green salads. I wouldn't have minded some potato or macaroni salad alongside my sandwich. I'm down in Wallingford once or twice every few months, and what I had at Vinny's was good enough to inspire future visits while I'm in town. Their menu featured an array of very appealing sandwiches, though it would be hard to come there and not get roast beef in some form. read more

I tried the buffalo chicken sandwich in a wrap and it was just TOO MUCH, I tasted nothing but salt from the sauce breading, bacon and waaaaaay too much crumbled blue cheese. I asked for light on the ranch dressing, but it probably would've helped with adding some flavor other than SALT. I'd be willing to say that it was the worst wrap/sandwich I've ever had. Im a new resident and I won't be back. I did have a turkey sandwich here prior... nothing special but the turkey was good. I just didn't know what to order because of the lack of appetizing suggestions. There are MUCH better delis in the area. Some within a few blocks. read more

The quality of this place has deteriorated over the past few years. The sandwiches were once excellent and now are average at best. They beat Subway, that's about it. The new push is "King of Roast Beef." Ok, I'll give them that the roast beef is good but again, it's not great. The staff hasn't changed but the overall quality has. Quality not quantity? These guys have so many sandwich options that for one it's hard to decide what to get, and 2, some of the sandwiches fall flat on the flavor side of things. It bothers me that their chicken cutlet is cut into strips..no longer a cutlet and microwaving them makes it soggy. Stumbled upon this place recently and stopped in for a sandwich. I was impressed with the variety of creative concoctions they advertised on their menu board and very pleased with my choice, a sub with sausage, eggplant and ricotta cheese. It was awesome. Their back wall is lined with plaques commemorating the "sandwich of the month" going back years and years. It was fun to read some of the crazy sandwiches they made in the past and it seems like they occasionally resurrect some of the oldies. read more

I finally made it out here after hearing good things from friends and former co-workers. Vinny's knows how to make a sandwich, but the place didn't blow me away. I got a "politician," which had turkey and bacon on it, and there was a lot of turkey and bacon, but I've had better turkey, and I've had turkey and bacon piled on much higher from other delis for the same price or less. I liked that they have a lot of sandwiches on the menu, so if you don't know exactly what you want, there's always some new combo to try. I also liked that there's a lot of options for chips and drinks, and I couldn't leave without grabbing one of those whole deli pickles. But I thought Vinny's was just a standard deli, where I could get a good sandwich. The sandwiches are stuffed, but I would expect that for $7 and change, and I'd actually probably expect a little more. read more

Looking for a lighter meal I stopped for a dinner salad, the description of the ,"Italian salad " sounded good for $8, However it was nothing more than a soggy, cold, bland piece of diced and breaded chicken breast,1/4 of a thinly sliced tomato that lacked both color and flavor, 4 to 5 slices of cucumber w/ the skin, and about 1/4 of a head of iceberg lettuce! No actual greens worth eating! On the positive side, it was fresh lettuce. That's about all the good I can say about my $8 salad. read more

Vinny's is certainly my go-to place when grabbing lunch. There's such a variety of original sandwiches, that you could honestly spend a good five minutes deciding on what to order. I've found that Viinny's makes the best tuna I've had. I prefer the #16, the "Sorry Charlie", which is tuna on a hard roll with bacon, lettuce and tomato. Delicous. I'm also a big fan of their turkey salad, which has cranberries and walnuts mixed in. Throw it on a hard roll with some swiss cheese and it's sure to satisfy. Another thing about Vinny's, they pack your sandwich! Other deli's you may visit can sometimes leave you feeling jipped. Not here. If anything, you won't be hungry for dinner after having one of their sandwiches. Vinny is often seen working the register or simply chatting with the customers. I liked the feel of this place. There are signs all over the restaurant about buying American. Strong political feelings for a business sometimes turn me off, but being a small place like this where you can see the owner working the cash register, it was fine. Anyhow, the menu was a bit difficult to follow. My husband just wanted to try their "famous" roast beef and wasn't sure how he should go about ordering it. I wanted to make sure I had my roast beef heated since I'm pregnant and won't eat deli meat unless it is from a reputable place and is warmed up (even still I've only had it twice since being pregnant - this being my second time). We ordered our sandwiches after much heming and hawing and grabbed some drinks from the fridge. My husband tried Vinny's home made rootbeer. He said it was pretty good. The sandwich was definitely really fresh but it was pretty dry. Mine didn't taste heated after I had asked for heated roast beef. My husband said his tasted kind of warm. My sandwich was supposed to have ranch on it but I couldn't taste any ranch. The cheese and meat themselves were delicious but I never found the condiments (and I like tons of dressing) and I didn't find the tomato until halfway through the sandwich. They should do a better job evening everything out over the entire sub. It was definitely good tasting though despite its flaws, and a very big sandwich at that. I took half of it home! I would try this place again but I don't know that they are the best deli in the area or that there is anything spectacular about their roast beef. I do like the small and family owned vibe to the joint though. I just wish their sandwiches blew my mind more than they did. read more
