I really wanted to love this restaurant, and it has many positives going for it. To start they have a large, comfortable dining room, private dining area available for parties and a take out/quick service area. The staff are friendly and remember past customers. Most of the time the food is great and they have a large menu to choose from. The seafood dishes have been tasty and the pizza pies are great. The subs are ok, but at times have been soggy. My worst experience is with the eggplant which was bland and very soggy on two occasions. I will never order it again. I would say 80% of the meals I have had here were very good, but the other 20% have been subpar. If you are dining in, I think you'll be happy here but be cautious about takeout orders. read more

Vinny's is great. They have something for everyone. You can choose whether you want to sit in a dining room environment or a carryout sub shop area (or just plain take it to go). The carryout side sells massive pizzas, and you can get individual slices too. The pastas come with a salad with their tasty house vinaigrette (an oil and vinegar with shallots and herbs, served on the side) and also a bread basket. The bread is worth mentioning because of the red bread (aka tomato bread). You have your standard Italian bread slices, as well as a puffy toasted focaccia-like bread that is brushed with tomato sauce. Awesome! The portions are plentiful; I will probably get four meals out of my spaghetti and meat sauce. And what guy do you know that can get filled up on a salad? Well the DBF had a blackened chicken Caesar and it was huge. He needed nothing else (other than some red bread of course). Vinny's has good food, decent prices, and large portions. I've eaten in the carryout section of Vinny's maybe half a dozen times, and every single time I think, good, not great, and why aren't there more places like this? What Vinny's does, it does well. Not groundbreaking well, but solid, well put together, reasonably priced. I've only had pizza and subs. The pizza, at least that I've had, is more NY style than anything else. It's well proportioned, with very good sauce, decent cheese, and a crust that's more crunchy than chewy. And, they have very large slices! Subs are served on above average bread with, at least in the case of cheese steaks, above average meat. If anything, they could use a fattier cut of beef since there's none of that grease running down your arm thing. (I don't eat subs often, and when I do, I expect messy!) Then I wonder why there aren't more places like Vinny's, I mean places that are comfortable, unpretentious, with counter service and booths. There are sweet decorative touches like Italian-inspired trompe l'oeil on the walls and assorted tschotskies on the counters. While not my taste, it does show a level of care and pride of place. My boys and I went here ready to enjoy some delicious pizza. Unfortunately, the pizza we had was anything but delicious. It was a notch below mediocre. This is a big deal to us because we love pizza and were looking forward to trying this place based on the reviews. When arriving, know that there are two sides to the restaurant. We initially walked into the restaurant on the more formal dining side. It was quite busy for Saturday lunch, so we decided to sit on the other side, which is more informal. That side also has the option to carry out. Upon entering, we were greeted by a nice woman. We ordered 6 garlic wings as an appetizer and an order of fries and a large pizza with half cheese half pepperoni for the main entree. The wings came out first. They had a really good flavor but were a bit saltier than we liked. They're weren't too salty to the point they were inedible, but we wished there wasn't as much. They were, however, cooked well. The pizza... it lacked a little bit of everything from the sauce to the flavor. Disappointment is quite the understatement for a family who eats pizza more often than I'm eager to admit. I'm not suggesting that the pizza we had on that day represents how the pizza always tastes; I'm just saying that the pizza we had that day helped us come to the conclusion not to return for their pizza. Ok a positive note, the fries were good. Overall, we didn't care much for our experience there and are unlikely to return. As an important side note, it does seem like a well known and popular neighborhood gem to many. While there, many people came in and were greeted by name. I called today, spoke with one owner who then transferred me to another owner. After i explained how upset I was the other owner hung up on me. I was randomnly introduced to Vinny's about a month ago by a neighbor. As a Chicago girl, I didn't expect much. But, holy cow, this pizza is insane. The sauce and crust don't even have words. My bestest friend at work is leaving and I contacted Vinny's via Facebook about delivering downtown. Immediate response. They delivered three of the 30" pizzas today. Mt first time ordering take out for family gathering. Had ordered large pan of meatless lasagna. They left the mozzarella out so I called and Tony offered to deliver. Since I had lots of mozzarella I told him I would use what I had as I was ready to start preparing. As we were eating I noticed my vegetarians were only eating bread and salad. I told them I ordered the meatless lasagna for them and they informed me it had ground beef in it. I immediately called and spoke to Tony again. He said they do not sell meatless lasagna even though the lady who took my order told me they did not have vegetarian lasagne (which I originally requested) but could do meatless. Tony proceeded to say I should have looked at the menu. Why would I have to do that when I'm ordering with sales person. He offered to bring stuffed shell's which at this point I was so frustrated and embarrassed I said no it was too late. Everyone had already been eating and another hour would have been too late. It goes on still I ordered a full pan and was only given a half pa. Had I not questioned this I would not have known. He said no o only ordered half pan and I asked him to check the order. It definitely said full pan. He refunded half pan of lasagna or so he said. We'll see when my bill comes in. What a mess this was. I'll never order with them again. His attitude about the situation was uncaring. He wasn't the one not having food for his guests. That was 3 mistakes on one order He should at least compensated the full meal and at least seemed concerned. I'd like to add. I've had many affairs at vinneys in the past, birthday parties and my moms wake. The food has always been outstanding as well as the service. Don't know what happened to them this time. I got a call today canceling my dinner reservation stating they were going to be closed for remodeling. After our early morning flight from Huntsville we were famished; let's face it airline peanuts and cookies just don't satisfy one's appetite. It has been a long while since I went to Vinnie's Cafe for pizza (April 2009, when I returned home from Iraq). I live in Harford County and going to Vinnie's is a bit of a hike when Fortunato Bros has great pizza here. But today was an opportunity that was hard to pass up since I had to drive right by them in Dundalk. Sheri and I ordered a Vinnie Salad (Mescule Salad Mix, Cheese, Onions, Tomatoes, Red Roasted Peppers, and Balsamic Dressing), this is a great Italian insalate appetizer to split. Lots of fresh mozzarella and roasted red peppers and a very flavorful balsamic glaze dressing. We also ordered slices of pizza, cheese for Sheri, and mushroom for me. There is nothing like a slice of pizza that is reheated in a real pizza oven. The bottom of the crust gets nice and crispy & chewy while the cheese gets stringy and gooey!!. The mushrooms on my pizza were freshly sauteed prior to being added as a topping, OMG they were so tasty!!! Vinnie's pizza is 100% New York Style!!!! The red sauce has just the right amount of sweetness and seasonings, while the crust is tender, crispy, and chewy all at the same time. Having been born in Upstate NY, raised in Jersey, and went to college in Upstate NY, I was spoiled on NY style pizza, and Vinnie's definitely satisfies my pizza cravings!!! In my opinion, Vinnie's has one of the best pizzas I've had in the Baltimore area. They also have an extensive menu of subs, salads, and italian foods. Also, Vinnie's has two sections... the formal Italian dinning / eat in restaurant (with Baby Grand Piano) and the take out Pizza shop with 8 booths to sit at too. My boyfriend and I just ordered delivery from here and oh my gosh I cannot recommend this place enough! We got the Chicken Chesapeake and the Chesapeake pasta and both were LOADED with crab meat. They both came with bread and salad and the chicken chesapeake even came with pasta. It's pricey but we treated because we had 50% off the whole order BUT I would still order from here again because you get a lot for your dollar. Only complaint is I ordered whole wheat pasta ($2 extra) and got regular but I didn't even mind because it was swimming in lumps of crab meat. The side salad was good but if you get takeout just throw the house dressing away and use your own because I'm pretty sure it's just olive oil and pickled onion and it tasted pretty gross-- neither of us were fans. The pizza is pretty good...slices are massive...could have more taste to it, but better than most in Baltimore. For what you're paying, the slice is a good deal.
