I don't believe that there is a way to adequately express how incredible this experience can be for those who can book it. We were treated with a tour of the production areas (incredibly clean) by Scotty along with an explanation of the processes they use in production. This was capped of with a long walk down the caves leading to an incredibly impressive tasting room. We were treated to some current offerings along with a few Library wines all of which were stunning examples of wine making. The added extra which we will remember for a long time was the three small plates/pairing offered by chef Jimmy Day. We will dream of this tasting for years to come and enjoy the wine forever. read more

Vineyard 29 is the sort of place that blows your socks off when you least expect it - wow! JJ was our guide and is so much fun, knowledge and experience bundled in one. The tasting room boasted gorgeous views and a lovely complimentary grazing board but the wines are truly the star. What not to love about Vineyard 29, the only second one in Napa Valley to use of gravity nature's own gentle crushing method, is central to the process of winemaking at Vineyard 29. Making this possible are advances such as a specially designed freight elevator used to fill, lift and empty tanks as an alternative to the common oxygen-driven pumping of wines around a facility. At Vineyard 29 free-run juice is transferred around the tank room and to barrel in the caves by gravity. It's a private place where you have to make an appointment but it's WORTH a trip! Locate at the end of highway 29, gorgeous estate, gorgeous view, and a state of the art wine making facility. I got to try these wines at Vintage Wine Merchants on Santana Row, now to visit here it was so perfect. Because there was only 2 parties on our weekend visit. They truly limited on appointment to give guests all the attention and let their guests enjoy their visit. We truly appreciated that! Their Chardonnay was also a treat! We love all their red. This is 1 of our favorite wineries we had ever visited! read more

I really liked the décor here and thought sitting on the couches for the tasting was very fun and super different! We were able to get in right away, probably from showing up early, and the staff was super polite and professional! The 3/5 stars comes from the staff presenting the wine.. One of the staff members just handed me the glass and didn't tell me anything about the wine, tasting notes, or anything and I felt that is a huge part of the experience. Also I did a tasting of 4 wines and instead of bringing them out one at a time, they were all queued up on the table. It really took away from the fun of the tasting. This place was super nice, but not sure I'd want to do a second tasting here. A little more personalization and attention to the experience would of been really nice. read more

Our tasting was supposed to be at the tasting room in Napa downtown, but we went to the vineyard instead by mistake. This property and its winemaking have evolved over the years, from a family owned hone with a small plot of vines, to a full production winery. They have a clear mission - to offer small production of high end wines Estate and Aida series) and large production of premium red wine (Cru) for restaurants and retail. Philippe Melka, a man of many top Napa wines (Lail, Gemstone, Hundred Acre, among many) is the man behind the curtain. Visits are by appointment only and run about two hours for the full tour and tasting of the entire portfolio. Each of the wines is paired with seasonally inspired small bites to complement the wine in your glass. Not talking cheese and crackers here - a chef prepares these tasties, and each is served on a small ladle spoon. In our case, it was lamb, beef and a third I cannot recall, each worthy of a fine dining designation. This was simply killer as far as tastings go, and I have attended a lot. I fell in love with the Estate cab franc, harvested on site, and bought what I could on the spot. The Aida Cabernet may have been the headliner of the show, but the cab franc was the star for me. Yesterday my sister, mom and I had a tour and tasting with Annamarie Ciotta at Vineyard 29. Let me say off the bat, Anna was amazing!! She was extremely knowledgeable about the Vineyard 29 property, their wine making process and especially their amazing wines. She took us down into the caves and into their beautiful wine cellar/event space. By the end of the tour and tasting we were all chatting like old friends. I personally fell in love with their Pinot Noir and their Cab was out of this world amazing! They also have great shopping bags that we purchased and spices that pair with their wines. I took home the spice paring for Pinot Noir, it's amazing! Vineyard 29 was a beautiful and very special wine experience. Be sure to make an appointment since they don't allow walk-in's. We like to find wines that aren't distributed mainstream, and are delicious. Vineyard 29 fit that bill. We started the visit on the terrace with two tastings. We then went through the tour which is clear quality is the center stone and ended in the wine cellar. It was a beautiful setting. Austin was our host and very knowledgable. He was kind, but also kept our group on track. We tasted a variety of wines and loved each one. They were paired with bites of food that were amazing!!! (Also made by Austin.) Sterile, boring, unmemorable experience. Our host was very nice, but she just seemed to be repeating the presentation she had been taught to learn. The Cru wines are average at best. And the high-end Cabs for $295? They might...might...be worth $150. You can drive about 1/2 mile north and go to AXR, where everything is better. The $200 single vineyard Cabs at AXR are twice as good as anything at Vineyard 29. And the whole experience is way more enjoyable. read more

Up in Napa Saturday, a few friends and I had the great pleasure of getting a full tour and tasting at Vineyard 29. Coming from across the street at Revana (http://www.revanawine.com) tasting some of Heidi Barrett's recent releases (Amuse Bouche, La Sirena, Revana, Barbour) , I wasn't sure what to expect. This is some of the best wine you can find in Napa. Walking into the "estate", (it's actually more of a high tech elegant fortress of wine), you are welcomed by a magnificent door that opens up into the winemaking facility. For all you wine dorks, this is heaven. Owner Chuck McMinn, utilizing his high tech background, has invested in a winemaking process that is a brilliant blend of new world and old world wine technology. The facility is gravity fed to create a gentle crush and minimize imperfections. From the pick to the cellar you rarely see such care and precision in winemaking. The caves below the facility venture into the mountain and span 17,000sq ft. At the back end of the cave (see pics) is a large wine library room where you can host a large dinner or taste the great wines of Vineyard 29. Daniel Ha, the hospitality director, generously guided us through six of their finest releases. These are not your ordinary Napa wines. Each wine reflects different characteristics of varietal and terroir. The Aida Vineyard 29 Red Wine transcends it Napa birth and evokes the Rhone Valley. The 2003 Zinfandel was the best Zin I've had to date and I've come away from ZinFest several years with black gums. So here's the bad news. The list has a 2 year wait, and if you're not a list member, you're not allowed in. Vineyard 29 is closed to the public due to their extremely limited releases. This makes for a perfectly quiet tour and tasting. So find a friend who is a member, because this is how you do Napa. read more

I admit that my review will definitely be an outlier compared to the others, but I have to write about one of my least favorite experiences in Napa in many many years. I won't critique the wine, that is definitely an individual thing. There were four of us and not one of us really enjoyed them but didn't hate them either, but sometimes the experience sours the wine. The Experience was a huge disappointment. We did have an appointment for courtyard tasting. They "squeezed" us in but when we got their the place was pretty deserted. The courtyard was a table outside the main structure, closer to the parking lot than the building. Definitely gave out a second class citizen feel. When we arrived we were greeted by a young gentleman who would be our host. Nice kid but knew very little about the wine and gave us very little info on the winery, etc. etc. He poured us four wines then disappeared into the building. He would come out now and then from behind the big wooden doors to check on us but we really felt we on our own, maybe even being bother to them that we showed up. Who know what was behind those doors. We only did the $45 tasting, maybe that was the problem, but I think some sort of hospitality should come with that price. The sad part was it was our friend's birthday and he had been really wanting to try Vineyard 29 for a long time. When he gave us the list of wineries to go to it was at the top of his list. I enjoyed Vineyard 29 wines at a private event which they poured at. Unfortunately I was very disappointed from the start for our "private library food and wine pairing". Austin took about a week to get back to me after I emailed and also called to set up a date. On the day of, he sent a somewhat terse email telling me that our four-person group must be there at 12:00 SHARP. He had an attitude during the tour, and was a bit odd during the tasting when he discovered that the wine had been corked. One of my friends was a bit weird that day (something personal was going on), but Austin couldn't roll with it. We spent enough $ on wines that day, but he couldn't deign to send the recipes he had told me that he would. About a month later, Austin sent thank you card and offered to be of assistance in the future. Yeah, right. The wine is very good, the marketing director just needs to remember what he is there for. read more

Got lucky enough to have some friends invite me to join them in tasting this amazing wine. Daniel was extreme gracious and knowledgeable. The wine is in a class all its own. If you are into Silver Oak, Stags Leap Cask 23, Groth Reserve, or Rubicon Estate this wine will blow your mind. The tour and tasting runs about two hours and is worth every minute. I have only one suggestion. Do this winery on its own in a day. The reason being? All other wine you taste will pale in comparison. This is the case where you truly get what you pay for. read more

Lovely place, great staff and good food! We went here for a dinner/drinks event and it was fantastic. It started out with canapes and Sauv Blanc, which I normally am not a huge fan of but was in love with. The space is relatively new (2002), clean but sitll didnt feel super pretentious. We then sat down for dinner, sturgeon which was paired with their cab, which was really delicious as well. The dessert was a decadent chocolate mousse with sea salt cookies and a nice port. Uber Impressed. We had an epic tour led by Jessica and it was truly the highlight of our Napa trip. AMAZING wines and although not typically a fan of Sauvignon Blanc it was my favoirte wine of the day. The wine production room and barrel caves were immaculate. The barrel storage room which lines the walk way to the library has a grand entrance (beautiful wooden door) and doubles as space to host events. Truly amazing. I'm glad that this was the first winery that we visited during our trip. Our palates were clean, we were parched and excited to learn about this fairly new winery (they have been harvesting grapes for esveral years but the actual winery was built in 2002) . Pardon my word choice but one word comes to mind when I think of Vineyard 29. Aroused. This simple yet eclectic atmosphere was mysterious and inviting. The floor that the barrels line was a medium brick almost rust hue alongside the slightly dimmed lighting was very sensual. You know when you are on the brink of developing goosebumps but not quite? Well the temperature controlled rooms kept us chilly as we walked up and down the aisles yet the barrel tasting kept us warm. Although a couple of the wines we tried were still young (not going to be bottled for another year or so) like the winery itself the wines were well balanced yet somehow bold in making a lasting impression. We finished our tour in the lab which consisted of test tubes, a white board and a few sinks reminding us of high school Chemistry... our group hit with nostalgia had a few of us raising our hands with questions. Vineyard 29 is by far the best winery I've ever been to...in Napa, Paso Robles, and Santa Ynez. We had an amazing tour led by Austin and could not have been more impressed. The tour was really fun and we also learned a lot about the winery and their wine-making process, which made us appreciate their unparalleled wines even more. The Cru is to die for, a great wine that you can't believe you are getting for such a good price. The caves and tasting room are just gorgeous and the winery looks out on a beautiful view of the valley. In our group of five, every single person said that Vineyard 29 was hands down the best part of their entire Napa experience. The fact that i feel the need to post something negative bums me out but feel it important to do so ....just came back from vacation and had some friends set us up at Vineyard 29 for a private tasting with Austin. Wine was great ...Austin NOT so much! In fact , I left in tears.....BIG regret in NOT saying something at the time but felt because our friends have a relationship there I didn't want to tarnish that ...We had a private tour and tasting with another couple from Florida who were obviously more experienced with this whole process and knew Austin....it was clear that we were not Austin's type of customer (he knew we weren't wealthy) so he basically ignored us. It was one of the most humiliating experiences i've ever had. I wanted so much to tell him off....everyone we met in Napa and Sonoma were all very very pleasant ....Austin = loser!! He needs to learn a few things about treating people with respect! He summed us up the second we walked in and he was done with us! Would never recommend this place to anyone! Spent two hours with Austin today touring a very impressive winery facility. We began our experience with a glass of sauvignon blanc on the upper patio overlooking the entire valley. When Austin arrived he sat with my wife and I talking about the winery and enjoyed a glass of the cru 2009 cab before we were off on the tour. Our tour concluded in the wine library where we experienced a great wine and food pairing. The wine lived up to expectations. A wonderful experience with outstanding wine. I would highly recommend Vineyard 29 and will enjoy the wine for years to come. read more
