There exists NO BETTER MECHANICS in LA than Zack + Jack. Took my Ford Ranger in because of a "check engine" light. They took the whole thing apart over the weekend. Come Monday -- they gave me my truck back all tuned up and clean. But the engine light was still on. They couldn't find the issue, so they DIDN'T CHARGE ME A DIME! I took it to Ford to find out that it was just a BS computer error... Ever since, I've been a returning costumer. They're fast, cheap and know how hard an auto bill can hit you when you're down. I am a small, very young looking woman, and I probably look like an easy target to be taken advantage of, but these guys never do. This place continues to impress me Everytime I go. A while back I took my car to my dealership for a check up since I had been having issues accelerating. They said they didn't know why I was having acceleration problems but that I needed to get my brakes replaced. I took my vehicle to Vine to get the brakes done and while there they asked if I was having any issues accelerating. Turns out I had a transmission fluid leak. Thankfully my car was still under warranty, 1 month left, and I was able to get it fixed at my dealership for free (that's probably why the dealership tried to tell me they didn't see a problem ). Recently, while driving my sunroof flew off. After taking my car to a place my insurance recommended that, after a month, couldn't locate the right part I took my car to Vine. It turns out my car had an after market sunroof put in which Zack found out after making numerous calls and scouring the web. It would have taken a while for the glass to come in so he called around and found a place that had the piece and sent me there. So grateful to have this place in my neighborhood!! read more

Zack and Jack are simply great! Good professionals, easy going and down to earth, they listen to what your problems are and try to get on top of it and they are BMW fanatics. Worked just fine for me! I came with my e46, got my suspension fixed (control arms, bushings, struts and left knuckle), also oil filter housing gasket and some hoses got old. all at once and i didn't have to overpay for labor. Once I came and got my transmission, engine and undercarriage inspected, and tire leak closed. I spend there more than an hour and he charged me like 10 bucks, just cause I was the first customer that day and he was superstitious!:) His office has a lot of celebrity and movie industry ppl photos with autographs, and mechs are not dirty and grumpy, but actually singing there.)) Saw the Yelp reviews, so I decided to give this place a try for the new rattling noise coming from under the hood. Thought it might be a timing chain, but was unsure. I dropped off my 2005 Ford Focus in the morning, took a Lyft to work... and an hour or so later Zack called to give me the lowdown on the problem with a price quote to fix it (engine mounts were shot). The price seemed reasonable, so I told him to go for it. Got a call later that day to let me know my car would be ready by 4pm. I was able to get there just before they closed and was completely shocked to find that my car runs smoother than ever now. It's been a week now and there's no rattling, so they've earned my trust! Luckily, I have never really had any "major" repairs needed, but plenty of the usual things: brakes, oil change, windshield wipers, a/c motor, brake lights, etc. Each and every time I have been 100% satisfied. Zack owns the place and his team are all good guys and excellent mechanics. I was shopping at the Albertsons up the street one night; when I was finished and returned to my car, it would not start. The check engine light had been on for a long, long time and I was having horrific visions of a seized engine in my head. The next morning, I had AAA tow my car to Vine Auto Center -- it was close and the reviews I read were good. I spent the day anxiously wringing my hands, anticipating a high cost repair that I didn't have the money to pay for. It turned out that there were several issues with my car (why? WHY did I have to be such a stereotypical girl and be all 'TEEHEE WUT IS THIS CHECK ENGINE LIGHT? I WILL IGNORE IT WHEEE!' I asked while I kicked myself repeatedly) but luckily, not all the issues needed to be addressed at once to get my car started again. Zack got my car running and gave me a list of things that still needed to be done, prioritized them, advised me on how long I could realistically go before addressing each item, provided very reasonable estimates, etc. Most of all, he was very reassuring and told me not to worry. He didn't make me feel stupid, didn't lecture me or look down on me for ignoring the check engine light for as long as I did, and didn't try to take advantage of my car naiveté. Went there for years, no problems. Finally had them do a complete engine rebuild on my classic car. Turns out they never pulled it apart to machine the crankshaft. I moved away, the shaft failed and I had to rebuild it all over again. Don't trust them with big jobs! read more

If I could give more stars I would. Not only are these some of the most knowledgable men around, they are also the kindest guys around as well. I just love visiting there, because they are so sweet! They remember you by name, and are always SO warm and helpful. Never once have I felt confused by them any step of the way. My dad was a mechanic, and so I always had someone with a wealth of knowledge and an open garage to take my car to, who I knew would not rip me off. My father passed away after I graduated from high school, and I spent about 4 years getting the run around from various other mechanics. Until finally, I was referred to Vine Auto. They have taken such great care of me and my cars. I had a Dodge Stratus that had over 200,000 miles on it, and at the time I just couldn't afford to get a new car. They kept her running BEAUTIFULLY (and she was over 10 years old). I have a long commute, and with the right maintenance each year, I never once found myself broken down on the side of the freeway. Zack and Jack will be honest with you about what the priorities are to get fixed now, and what to plan for. They give you the choice whether you get the brand name parts, which are better and last longer, or if you want to just get by with something else for the time being. Now, I have a newer car- a Honda Odyssey. I bought it used, so I took it to Vine Auto to get checked out once I first took ownership. They told me what a great car it was, and how to start taking care of her now. I know my father is resting a little bit easier knowing that his daughter has someone knowledgable and trustworthy watching out for his wild daughter and her cars. I've been going here for a few years now and they are super nice and won't rip you off. In my experience, they tend to come in under on their estimates. My friend that initially referred me here can vouch for this too. She has a lemon of a Range Rover and her uncle is a mechanic that has vouched for their honesty in price/service. The location is also easy. It's right next to my favorite taco place, a great body shop (Castle Auto) and Enterprise if you need to rent a car. I needed to repair an automatic window that fell off the track. They repaired it for less than the dealership wanted to diagnose the problem. I cannot say enough about Zack, his shop and how refreshing it is to find an honest and helpful auto guy. He was great for oil changes and new brakes on my Mini. Got the car back on time and reasonably priced - and a hell of a lot cheaper than Mini would have charged me. So when I was having problems with my mini starting in the mornings I took it back to Zack to check out. He told me I wasn't crazy, that there was definitely wrong with it, but his scanners weren't able to pick out what the problem was and suggested I take it to Mini where their scanners are specifically tailored to the Cooper and might have better luck sorting out the problem. Before I left, he gave me two great pieces of advice before bringing it to Mini 1) ask if it was a common problem with Minis and 2) call him when they told me what the problem was and he would tell me if the price they quoted me was fair or not. Turned out it was a common problem and the price they quoted me was fair, but because I asked the question of it being a common problem Mini fixed the car for free. If it hadn't been for Zack's advice I never would have thought of that and probably would have had to pay to get my car fixed. read more

I really like this shop! I will say first off I have *not* had any work done here other than a battery change, but I brought my car in this week for a diagnostic test on a "check engine" light that was coming on periodically, and not only did they charge my half the price everyone else was asking for that, he (Zack) also took the time to explain in great detail the issues he had noticed with my car. He even put it up on the lift so he could show me what he was talking about. As someone who knows very little about cars, having that visual was very helpful. Ultimately he told me what was causing the light to come on was not even worth fixing, and gave me a list of the other things in order of priority. Seems very fair and honest, and not interested selling people repairs they don't need. Update: Several months ago I had my car checked out before moving from LA to Portland (a 17 hour drive), and they did a great job of fixing the few small things that were an issue (an old belt and windshield wipers) for a reasonable price, and giving me their opinion of the car in general (good condition). I felt reassured and in good hands. I'll miss them!! read more

Got a lot of work done on my Mini Cooper at VIne Auto because my car needed some work, and I chose this place because of all the great reviews here. Had to come back here twice in three weeks for different problems that did not exist before. Zach does seem like an honest guy though, so maybe either I had two times the bad luck, or maybe just if you have a Mini Cooper don't bring your car here. First time - the passenger side door lock didn't work anymore. It was fine before I took it into the shop, but the day that I took it home it didn't work anymore. The first time they worked on my car, they opened up the car door to look at why the window wasn't working. I told them not to fix the window when the quoted the price because it wasn't an urgent problem for me. However, they must've accidentally messed something up inside the door because the door lock motor didn't work anymore afterwards. They said it wasn't their fault, but just to make me happy they would split the price of the new door lock motor with me and not charge the labor. So I thought, well my car is old - maybe it was just bad luck, and I split the cost with them. No hard feelings. Second time - my car had to be TOWED back to the shop after the transmission came out. This time they couldn't deny it as their workmanship. They specifically worked on the transmission. The bolts were loose and the transmission started shifting around my car every time I accelerated or braked - making a large thunk that shook the whole car. When the car was in reverse, the car would shake violently. Had to wait until Monday to get my car towed back to Vine Auto. Zach didn't try to deny that it was their fault. He does seem like an honest guy - paid for the towing and fixed my rear brake light for free because he felt bad. Who knows, maybe Mini's are hard to work on, which I know to be true. Or maybe they had a new technician who was very careless. This is one bad review out of many good ones, so looks like I may be one unlucky customer out of many, but I've just spent way too many days and hours here and wanted to warn people. read more
