First let me say, I had no idea this was a chain restaurant. For years I genuinely assumed this place was a bed and breakfast awkwardly situated in the middle of downtown bustling Fort Smith. When my wife suggested we eat lunch there yesterday I thought she was pulling my leg. Based on the name and my incorrect assumptions, I expected to walk in and be enveloped in waves of Americana nostalgia. No such luck as the only relics in the place were the diners. Seemed to be a pretty up-to-date diner reminiscent of Denny's or IHOP, senior citizens and endless cups of coffee were abundant. "Breakfast served all day" did seem pretty inviting, but I opted for the classic Reuben sandwich with seasoned fries. Usually diners like this one have a habit of knocking the classics out of the park and The Village Inn didn't disappoint. Easily one of the best Reubens I'd ever eaten. Perfectly crusted rye, tender, juicy corned beef, rich, flavorful thousand island dressing, and crunchy, perfectly tart sauerkraut all combined to create a sandwich worthy of praise and recognition. The fries were classic crinkle cut in miniature form, deep fried to a golden color and perfectly crispy on the outside and soft in the middle, however there weren't very many of them. I'm normally not a fan of crinkle cut, too much mush and not enough crispy, but the size of these tater sticks perfectly balanced the two adjectives. My wife opted for a "create your own breakfast" platter and I've got to say, it looked pretty underwhelming. The bacon and sausage looked overcooked and small in size, the bowl of grits looked like two bites at most, and the hash browns should've been more brown than white. However, the Belgian waffle (according to her) more than made up for the rest of the meal. Smothered in strawberry syrup and topped with fluffy, frothy cool whip, the two inch thick pancake with pockets put a smile on her face from ear to ear. A waffle connoisseur if you will, my wife decided we would return here again based on this dish alone. Service was average, nothing to write home about, but nothing to complain about either. The manager who greeted us seemed genuinely concerned that her patrons had a pleasant experience, but the waitress seemed like she was just going through the motions. Which, I can't hold that against her...I'd probably be the same way if I had to constantly top off coffee mugs all day for tips based on dining prices from 40 years ago. All in all, a nice, quiet place that does NOT in fact offer sleeping arrangements or provoke feelings of being in an episode of The Andy Griffith Show, but does offer tasty plates of "home-cooked" food and free refills on hot coffee and ice cold beverages. Worth stopping in at least once just to try the Reuben and a warm slice of pie. read more

I have to be honest from the very beginning. I cannot write a review on Village Inn's food because in all the years I have never had any of their food items. To be truthful, I have only eaten their pies. Yes, I will go in and have pie. But really, when I am craving pie, I want a whole pie not just one slice! So, when holiday seasons, birthdays, potlucks and truth be told, meals put together by our church for the family of loved one's passing, I no longer have to raise my hand to volunteer; everyone around me knows I will bring the pies. Everyone has their favorites, but I'm going to describe my favorite Village Inn pie. If you are a chocolate lover, then their Chocolate Silk pie is to die for. However, do not serve me this pie with coffee! No thank you; I smile and ask for a glass of cold milk!!! I'm not sure what they do to make this pie so special, but it is wonderful. To be honest, spots 2,3, and on down the list may vary depending on where I'm taking pies to, but number one will always remain Chocolate Silk! read more

I ordered a whole pie online on a Saturday to be picked up on a Monday (during my lunch break) so when I went to pick up I was told they didn't have the one I ordered so when I told the guy upfront I ordered 2 days before I was told they only get the ticket order 1 hr before pick up but if I waited 2 mins while one was baking and then wait another 30 mins (since they wouldn't put a hot pie in a container) then I could get the one i wanted .. so I got a different pie because I couldn't wait that long and left to my car and then decided to come back a second later and get my money back because I ordered that specific pie for my husband for Valentine's Day since that's the only pie/sweets he eats .. I was met at the front by a lady who asked to exchange pies since she heard the conversation between the guy and I .. I really did appreciate this sweet lady for her compassion (unlike the front desk guy) . Now that pie from that lady was hot in a container so didn't understand WHY I couldn't of gotten one after the 2 mins also and what's the point of PICK UP ONLINE. If you can't get what you want .. shame on you .. I won't EVER go there again .. there are OTHER places who makes pies and I will pay more for them .. I know this place doesn't care about meaningless complaints like this but maybe one day this place will go out of business.. good luck people! read more

We often eat here when we are in Ft. Smith for doctor appointments. We were there today and the definitely need to fire the cook. I think they were on lunch break when we got there as my husband remembered seeing them eating in the restaurant when we came in. Our order to much longer than usual to arrive and we did not order anything complicated. My husband's adult grilled cheese was only grilled on one side, only had one small slice of tomato on one half, and was generally poor. Parm bread was a joke. My Ruben sandwich was very dry with no dressing and little kraut. Cheese soup was cuddled. Will think twice when we are in town again. read more

I was happy to grow a brain and realize it's a old person/trucker/hipster-ass restaurant where you can get some greasy food to give you some horrific bowel-movements later. WORTH IT THOUGH. The service was excellent. we ordered breakfast and the scrambled and over medium eggs were cooked on a too hot of a grill that caused crispy edges and a horrible just cleaned grill taste. Our hash browns had that chemical grill taste too. Coffee was good! The biscuit was covered with a minimal amount of gravy but was able to eat. The last 4 times I ate there it got worse each time. Went there today for a free Veterans day breakfast. The pancakes were barely warm. The eggs were good but the bacon had a strange taste. My family & I was looking forward to our first visit based on the reviews & the fact that the parking lot was full during a recent drive-by. We went early today & were happy to see plenty of parking places. We went in & was greeted by a nice lady at the front counter & seated by another lady who said our waitress would be by soon. After sitting there several minutes, we began to wonder if they had forgotten about us. When our waitress did show up at our table, we got our drinks fairly quickly & since there were only guests at 4 other tables, we thought our food would arrive in a reasonable time. We were wrong...our waitress passed our table several times & advised us that our food would be out shortly. " Shortly " turned into almost 45 minutes. The little interaction we had with the waitress was disappointing. We had to asked for silverware which seem to annoy her & asked us who seated us without giving us silverware. I advised her that this was our first visit & didn't know the lady who seated us. As she was walking by my daughter asked about when she should order pie. Using what seemed like an irritated voice the waitress said she would be back shortly to take the pie order. I suppose she realized how rude her answer was because when she came back she apologized & said she was just very busy. ( again, 4 tables plus our table & 2 waitresses). Very disappointed. read more
