MIKE is outstanding! He welcomed us with open arms. He gave us many recommendations and especially the pizza place called Bad Moravian. He showed us some places on the map and where we should go and see! He even makes pizza! Go see Mike!

Mike and Jamie are terrific hosts! We have been coming up every year for the Fall Festival for at least 20 years, and we love these accommodations! We travel with another couple and rent "the apartment." It has two bedrooms - one king and one queen. We're always fighting over who gets the king! ;). There are two full baths, a full kitchen, and living area. There was a new fireplace and some new furnishings this year which we liked very much. Very spacious and comfortable. My adult children sometimes come up with us and rent traditional hotel rooms in the same property. The breakfasts are simple but delicious: homemade oatmeal with seasonal toppings, homemade breads, bagels, fresh fruit, juices, granola, cold cereals, fresh coffee. Thank you, and we'll see you next year!

After a month of researching sites, trails, parks, and restaurants around Door County, I was finally left with the difficult decision of finding a place to spend three nights during Memorial Day weekend. Many of the options are outdated and over-priced, at least according to Trip Advisor. Now after spending a wonderful long weekend here, I write this review: Village Green's location couldn't be any better being just a block from the scenic lake front in Ephraim. To follow it, follow the hotel arrow signs (or turn right on Cedar then the next block will be Poplar). Upon arrival, it looks like a converted motel. Once you enter the lodge and main dining room, that all changes. You're greeted by one of the owners, Sue or Steve. You have a pleasant view of their well-kept gardens with hummingbirds and orioles feeding while you take care of the business of getting your key and getting the scoop. While this is considered a B&B, you have the privacy of a hotel and breakfast of a B&B without being in a stranger's home. They offered the most reasonable King bed room (it's a rarity to find, especially at this price) I could find in Door County. Even more so, a hotel that is FREE of pets, cigarette smoke AND kids---Triple score! That's what I call a true escape! The room was extremely clean--and I mean immaculate. I'm one of those who examines my bathroom and sheets for hair or any other uninvited critters. I didn't find any of this my entire stay. The room had an outdoorsy theme with wood and leaves. The room also came with a mini fridge, a desk, TV with WGN (to watch Tom Skilling's weather report), plenty of lighting, a bathroom heater, bathtub, everything I would ask for. Breakfast is served between 8 am and 10 am and was exceptional. Everything is homemade by their European assistants who have talent. They made the best oatmeal (with all the works on the side, including local Door County fruit preserves) and almond Kringle I have ever bit into (see it here: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/village-green-lodge-ephraim?select=A1BOaJURv25S5DTYTDdy1A#maZRia7VWV5OGJY-mGIAnQ)! Be sure to partake in free cookies, tea and coffee at 3 pm. The only one fuss is that Wi-Fi is only available in the lodge versus all the rooms. This is unfortunate since cell phone signal is hard to find on the peninsula. If you're looking for a reasonably priced, clean and perfectly located place to stay while in Door County, I would highly recommend Village Green Lodge.

The decor throughout the house is gorgeous and every room is very unique, so there's a nice variety to pick from all of the photos when booking online. We had the Jessie and it was such a treat having both a fireplace and jacuzzi in the room! The staff were lovely and fun to chat with, as well as hear more home history. The food was fresh and delicious-there was no doubt about who was making it because it was done in the same room. The Inn is right in the bustle of town so its easy to walk for shopping, different restaurants, going to the water (etc) but you never hear any noise inside of our room. Thorpe House is reasonably priced if you're celebrating something like we were. It was like stepping back in time but nothing felt dated. The room was freezing…read morebecause the bathroom heater didn't work in the middle of winter, which made the entire space uncomfortable from the moment we arrived. The jacuzzi tub -- one of the reasons we booked -- was filthy, clearly not cleaned properly before our stay. We also paid for a horse‑drawn carriage ride, which was canceled due to weather. That part was understandable. What wasn't understandable was the complete lack of communication about the replacement trolley ride being one‑way only. We were dropped off and left to walk back to the B&B in bitter cold temperatures with no warning. Breakfast was another disappointment. What was served tasted reheated and stale, like it had been sitting around far too long. And the truffles we ordered -- which should have been a special touch -- were stored in the laundry room and all tasted like detergent. For the price and reputation, we expected a warm, welcoming, and well‑run experience. Instead, we left cold, frustrated, and extremely let down. We won't be returning.

Started with the cheese plate and very much enjoyed the selection. I wish they would have provided more bread or crackers but that is because I'm a carb lover. Additionally, we had to clarify what one of the items on the cheese plate was because it tasted like alcohol to my husband. Looked like olives or cherries. It was indeed a type of cherry and had alcohol. I was grateful we had asked before trying myself at 8 months pregnant. My husband got the pressed 1/2 chicken and we both loved it. It had an incredible depth of flavor, great seasoning. I got the braised short ribs and enjoyed these as well. However, I wished they had been served with mashed potatoes instead of what I believe were grits. We ended our meal with the flourless chocolate cake which was the perfect cherry on top. Caramel spoons with popped amaranth on top were served with our check. Nice touch! Cozy atmosphere, nice fire crackling and friendly servers. What more can we ask for?

They have a great location atop a hill on main thoroughfare Highway 42, and a short 5 minute walk away from the heart of Sister Bay's vibrant commercial strip.  They are also a relative good value and get bonus points for having an English theme.  Having had many memorable and pleasant stays in the UK, any place that takes me back is a plus, and this place did that to a degree.   The owner and innkeeper Mike was at the desk when we arrived.  He's my kind of guy - a friendly Brit with a sense of humor.  When I said we had a party of 2 for 1 night, he dryly replied "Oh, but we have you for a party of 1 for 2 nights". As I rolled my eyes, he broke out into a chuckle, ha.  He's a native of Portsmouth, England and has owned and run this nice property for 25 years.  The 2-story property is homey, inn-like and not hotel-like, nicely and quaintly decorated in English style, and has a bar and several cozy sitting areas.  There's a 24 hour complimentary bean grinding coffee machine and the bar works on a self service guest honor system.  A swimming pool is also available in the back for those interested.  The included breakfast is comprised of a large and delicious selection, and their particularly delicious almond Danish pastry was more pie like and quite distinctive.  Each room has a name (ours was #104, the Winchester) and a small patio and it was comfortably laid out.   I really want to give this place 5 stars particularly for its location and value and theme but will have to hold back to 4 stars.   The reasons being that I didn't get a great sleep because 1) the pillows were too spongy and soft for me, 2) the king bed was a bit soft and bouncy, and 3) the wall A/C was quite loud when it kicked on briefly and frequently.    We may be back someday during the quieter heating season and try a different room (i.e., bed) also.  I may also start bringing my own pillows as my pillow complaint is not uncommon and not aimed just at the Inn here.  I really do like this place and the owner.

They also gave us a list of all of the local establishments serving breakfast, lunch dinner, and bars. This was very helpful since it was my first time in the area. If you're looking for a pool, don't bother staying here, but if you are looking for a quiet, relaxing, clean establishment this is your place to go. The breakfast was good for a cold continental, and there was plenty of it during breakfast. I always enjoy having coffee or tea available 24/7 and it was. The beds were very comfortable and the room was very clean. They do have a whirlpool that was pretty large. It was too cool for me to use it, but they were more than happy to let us know about it. And if we wanted to use it, it was available. They also had a gas grill that was available for use. We met a family of five who were using it one evening during my stay. I highly recommend this establishment.

To begin with, the accommodation lacked any hot water entirely, rendering showering impossible, and the hot tub was also therefore useless. Furthermore, the presence of mold and mildew was evident, and predictably, I suffered allergic reactions, respiratory irritation, and ultimately, lung infections, which necessitated our early departure due to respiratory distress. Although a dehumidifier was provided, its filter was clogged, and despite my attempts to clean it with cold water, I discovered substantial mold growth in the unit itself. Upon inspecting the collection bucket, I found it to be in a deplorable state. When we opened the windows, we were greeted by an influx of lake flies, only to discover that the screen had become detached from the frame, which was also warped, allowing house flies to enter alongside the lake flies. Additionally, the stove was dirty, with aluminum drip bowls caked with burnt oil, which seemed like a simple matter to rectify with new replacements of four available at a reasonable cost of $12 at any Walmart. The uneven flooring, exacerbated by the addition of new vinyl over old, presented another issue, and the flooring's appearance was unappealing, potentially due to the poorly chosen color. The overall condition of the furnishings was decrepit, with the stained and smelling faux suede sofa being particularly ill-suited for high-traffic use. I also noted that the plumbing's exposed pipes detracted from the ambiance. Regrettably, the accommodation appears worn out and in dire need of renovation. The breakfast was subpar, and the provision of instant coffee was disappointing. While there are potential positives in its excellent location and pleasant grounds, I must advise against booking here until significant refurbishments are undertaken.
