We went to Door County for a birthday celebration and sadly this is the first negative review I have had to write. We arrived on Friday 9/12, and the check-in process went well, the room was nice, and everything seemed ok. We were told that the housekeeping service would come in daily and remake the beds, cleanup the room, remove and replace any used towels and empty the garbage and resupply any coffee and toiletries needed. This was true only the first day. The second day we were out for the day and came back late and noticed that nothing had been touched? We went to bed and figured they would come back the next day. Nope...nothing. We had to empty our trash and reuse the "towels, etc. I had to go to the office get my own coffee supplies, etc. The only response I got was "Sorry"...help yourself to what you need. No....what is your room number? so, we will make sure they service you tomorrow. Nope...didn't happen. The worst part was the extremely loud pipe banging noise that began off and on from 12:00 midnight to around 4 am the last night we were there. It was intermittent and lasted 30 minutes each time it happened. No sleep for us that night. We went to the office to report it and were told.....we have had that happen in the past...and the obligatory "Sorry".....Very dismissive and after I explained the lack of room service and the noise that kept us up the response was an amazing," Sorry but we hope you will come back" followed by a smile? Very disappointing.....customer service? I hope future potential visitors have a better experience than we did... not a good birthday weekend. . They seem to not to care about living up to what they promise they will do. We will definitely not be returning here!!! read more

Rating: 2.5 stars My family came to stay here for 2 nights while we explored Door County. We went on Wednesday and left on a Friday. When we first arrived Wednesday afternoon, the lady at the front desk was kind of rude, standoffish and didn't really want to answer any of our questions. Walking through the hallway, everything looked very antiquated. When we got into our room I was disappointed to see that our over $350 a night room was pretty dilapidated, old and tiny. However, there was a small mini fridge and microwave available which was nice. There is free wifi available but can be fairly laggy. The resort itself is located right across the street from the water so you get a nice view of the water and you do get a small balcony to sit on with some patio furniture; however, there always seemed to be so many mosquitos there so I never did go outside. There is free breakfast available for guests. There were a few trays available for guests to bring their food up to their room. The selection was pretty simple but filling with some fruit, cereal and frozen jimmy jones breakfast sandwiches. There was a guy working in the breakfast room one morning that was kinda rude but apart from him and the lady at the front desk all of the other staff were quite friendly especially the housecleaning staff. All in all, a fairly average accommodation that wasn't too impressive; however, if you're not planning on staying in your room for too long while exploring Door County it may be adequate. read more

Excellent choice for a stay in Door County. This is at a prime location for touring everything Door County has to offer. It is located dirctly in front of the water. Great for viewing sunsets. There are chairs to sit on and a lovely screened in sitting area by the water. Walk to the restaurants. There is a cute place for wine close by. There is also nice restaurant that had live music that wss calming, not loud. You can hear the music from the wine venue too. Also walk to boat ridss and kayaking tours. There is cute ice cream parlor across from the boat rentals. The hotel is extra clean. I would highly recommend this establishment. read more

We truly enjoyed our stay at Pine Grove Resort. It was perfectly located right on the water and made exploring Door County a joy. Plus, there are stellar new restaurants walking distance south. The room was clean, the indoor pool was a huge hit with our boy and the breakfast was just fine. Pleasant people running the place as well. My only complaint was the hotel was a bit musty. Not sure if it was from former smokers, water damage or what. That is something they can fix, surely. It was so reasonably priced as well. read more

This is a great place to stay. Currently at this location and the room 102 is terrific, sofa, two chairs, king size bed. The room is super clean, the corridors are painted white and again super clean, doesn't look bad, like some comments. This place is a good spot to stay, been here couple of times and would be back again. Snack bag, complementary popcorn, water, cookies, wine and cheese after four till it runs out. We flew up to Door county for a last minute long weekend with my family. As a former VIP manager of a 5 Star hotel in Chicago I would have never checked anyone into the room we were staying in. I understand with Covid, staff is strained but the dirty toilet and missing/loose bathrooms tiles are unacceptable. I had family staying at a campground nearby and they were able to keep our 5 lb yorkie with them. The first day we were there we spent a wonderful day on the water in front of the hotel. We were on the beach all day. Spoke to several hotel staff who noticed out dog while we were there. Not one person bothered us or told us dogs were not allowed on the beach. We had so much fun we decided to do it again the next day. We were told by a staff member that we had to leave the beach as dogs were not allowed. The thing is the day before my husband who is White was with us all day not one staff member said a thing. The day we were told to leave my White husband decided to take a nap and it was just me and my Mexican family. I find it very odd that when my husband was there it was fine but when it was just a bunch of Mexicans we were asked to leave. I am not one to ever play the race card but I find this very disturbing. First visit and stay in Door County, this motel has a lot going on for it and also a few drawbacks. First, the waterfront location right between Fish Creek and Sister Bay is very convenient and if quiet is important to you, it is a bit quieter than either of those communities. The property is very clean and the beds, pillows, sheets and towels were very comfy - reminiscent of a Hilton or Marriott property. The seating and fire pit on their section of waterfront was quite nice and well maintained. The staff was pleasant and they stock a nice blend of teas and seem to care about your experience. Breakfast was a COVID adaption and everything was well wrapped, unfortunately this was held in the pool area which smells so strong of old chlorine that you might want to skip it. Other downsides: 1) the WiFi sucks big time. It was incredibly slow or none existent most of the time, 2) there was an odor and humidity in the hallway and rooms situated directly over the pool and hot tub. This was very unpleasant and left the towels and clothing damp all the time, despite the air-conditioning. We did ask the desk about this and if anything could be done and they had no answers for us, and 3) the bathroom , while clean, was quite small and wet. Overall, we had a lovely visit in Door County but from what we now understand about Pine Grove, we would likely try another location or asked for a room further away from the pool area. read more

BED BUGS !!! Woke up after the first night with multiple bed bug bites all over my body due to unsanitary conditions. Sheets are not washed and towels are not replaced unless you get them yourself. Filthiest hotel and most incompetent staff I have ever experienced. Only writing this review after begging 3 times to get clean sheets and towels replaced. They were finally dropped off on the floor in front of our door after the 4th complaint. So overpriced for the quality. This place needs to be shut down. Calling the health inspecto asap. Awful. Stayed with another family. I sprung for the full water view king room and the other family stayed in a queen room with partial view. I didn't think the full view was worth the higher price as the other family actually had a better view of the sunset! Although, their room was more dated with a 1970's looking bathroom. I was pleasantly surprised by how clean the room was considering it's an older hotel. Their Covid procedures also seemed to be well thought out. Thank goodness I did not let my first impression change my mind on this hotel. When I first called to make the reservation the receptionist tried to charge me $200 more for the room I found online and put me on speakerphone after she asked for my credit card number. I told her never mind and that I would just book online. 5 Stars for - location, breakfast, cleanliness 4 Stars for - value 1 Star for - reservation process over the phone Overall, I would stay at this hotel again but would stay in a partial view room next time. read more

Pretty basic hotel but really has everything you need! Hotel staff was friendly and accommodating. In time of covid, they very much encouraged masks in hallways and have some very safe procedures in place. You can use their fire pit nightly right on the water which was a perfect place to eat our carryout pizza. There is an indoor fitness center and pool too. read more

My first time in door county. This is a great location. Right by the Anderson barn/hardy gallery. Water front access ...has a sitting area across the street with firepit..grill...indoor screened seating and outdoor chairs by the water. Rooms are a decent size..larger than anticipated. Theres a balcony and they are clean and comfortable. The shower is a bit outdated.. unless you're a mermaid...or into shells... We went Door County for a girls trip and stumbled upon this resort while looking for places to stay. We feel grateful to have found this gem. What makes this place special is the staff. EVERYONE was so kind, helpful and friendly. The staff always introduced themselves and asked if we needed anything when we encountered them: Many of them shared that they loved being there because of Rita the manager. We also appreciated how clean the property was and enjoyed the quick check in the grab and god breakfast with tons of choices as well as the screened in porch on the lake where we played games one night. Beautiful views of the lake of our balcony. It is a very nice place to relax and enjoy some time away. read more

Sometimes one person can ruin an entire experience. I'm referring to the heavyset, red-hair-dyed woman at the front desk. First, if you are going to require masks for guest in public areas, then she should have to wear one. Each time I went to the desk to ask for something she was on her cell phone, and she came up with an excuse as to why she couldn't get up to do it. First, we told her about the dirty staircase in the back that needed to be vacuumed (including dirty Kleenex- particularly gross during a pandemic). Then they ran out of tea bags and I asked if there were anymore. She said the people in the morning do that and she doesn't know where they are. I took it upon myself to open the cabinet door under the tea counter and low-and-behold there were tea bags. I helped myself. Then later in the stay I asked for another bar of soap. She said she doesn't have access to those items. If your desk receptionist can't even give guests a bar of soap there is no point in staffing them there. On the last night, we wanted to enjoy the sunset by the fire. There is a lock on the fire. A really nice maintenance man lit it for us every other night. I went to ask if he could come light the fire. She said he's not working. I asked if we could use the key then to light it ourselves (it used to not have a lock on it a few years ago). She said she would light it at 5:30. More than 2 1/2 hours from when I asked. Everything I asked her for was a "no". It's a shame because all of the other staff have been so nice when we've interacted with them. The girl who worked the desk a few years ago was way nicer. But this is one bad apple, ruining the bunch. Also a few eyesores besides the dirty Kleenex: broken beer bottles by the fire pit, broken shower rings on the floor in the pool room. No towels left in the pool room. read more

Stayed here for a wedding. Staff was super friendly. Room was fine. Shower good, AC a little loud. They give you water and popcorn which is nice. They have an indoor pool and "private beach" which really just means some chairs and a dock on the lake. Good location with walkable shops and restaurants. Our one problem was the other patrons. Some guy left his floaties off the dock so they looked like they belonged to hotel he was SUCH an asshole about it. When I complained to front desk I clearly wasn't first. I think the hotel has to figure out a way to mitigate this or else the good natured midwestern vibes they are going for are totally thwarted. read more

This was a very nice place, just a few things were off but really not enough to drop down to three stars. It does look much nicer on the website photos, the whole area seems much more spacious than it really is. Rooms are very large, there is at least five or six feet between the end of the bed and the dresser. Carpeting was new and freshly cleaned. The bathroom color was a bit outdated...where did they find that odd shade of gold? Not quite harvest gold, not quite avocado...more like bilious baby poop. Towels were fluffy and actually smelled nice, like Downy. I've never been in a hotel that used softener on the towels. Cookies, coffee and tea are off the lobby, coffee is always fresh and actually pretty tasty for hotel coffee. In the office/lobby, you can use the internet, or borrow a book from the "library." Continental breakfast of fresh fruit, scones, cinnamon rolls, muffins. Picnic table and barbecue grill out on the green in the back. The hotel has an indoor pool/spa, game room and exercise room. There was a washer and dryer on the 2nd floor but on the other side of the building. The hotel also owns a tiny portion of beach. TINY! The cons: The light bulbs were not very strong, in particular, the swag lighting was very dim. One of the outlets was dead and the lamp didn't work till I plugged it in across the room. The table was a bit lopsided and made eating difficult...we were afraid of spilling coffee on the cream colored carpeting. No pad of paper or pen in the room; I had to go to the lobby to write down the places we wanted to go. We couldn't leave the sliding door open at night, there was no lock on the screen door, so we had to use the AC. The room got very hot and stuffy despite the cool weather. It took all night for the air conditioner to cool the room to a comfortable level. The TV was too low to watch in bed which made for painful necks. Despite the minor problems, I think we'd stay here again. read more

There are some really nice things about this hotel -- the location (just across the street from the lake), the complimentary breakfast (their blend of flavored coffee is delicious and the continental breakfast was more than I was expecting with cinnamon rolls, some fruit, yogurt, scones and packaged bagel treats), the pool & hot tub and as another reviewer mentioned the smell of the fresh towels. The staff was all friendly but there were a few things that really irked me about this place and would make me reconsider staying here again in the future. My main concern was the cleanliness. When my friends and I arrived in our room I happened to be sitting on a chair reading and looked down at the bed. We had JUST checked in and I noticed pretzel bits and Oxy clean pads pushed under the base of the bed. SO gross. We said something to the management, we moved the mattress so the cleaning staff could see. Nothing. We were there for 3 nights and this is pretty much unacceptable for a hotel. If they're not vacuuming here what else is dirty? read more

Upon booking in April, They mentioned that they had a beach and is a "resort." When we got there we were diappointed. There is nothing about this place that is a resort. Its basically a motel on the (usually) busy main road through the bay side of Door county. Yes, they do have a water view, but its across the road. The "beach" is laughable. Across the road they have a very small (24 feet?) section of sand sandwhiched between the breakwall of the yacht club, and a large cement slab. Old cheap plastic chairs and loungers are available, but this is nothing relaxing being right next to the highway. We stayed in room #116. We left our rooms Saturday morning to only return to personal items missing. The only people that would have been allowed was Housekeeping! I reported the missing items to front desk to be told by staff the didn't know who cleaned our room, but manager would be in Sunday morning. I left a written note about my concerns on Sunday morning bc manager wasn't at work yet. I have yet to hear a response about my concerns. All in all, this was the low spot in our visit. Most everything in the town is closed at 6pm even during peak season. There are lots of places to stay if you plan ahead so skip this one, go up the road to sister bay, or back to fish creek. Lots of nice places to choose from for the same price. For 138.00 per night you can stay at Pine Cove Resort (motel) have your items stolen, have pitiful small beach, semi- bayside view across from a busy Highway (watch your children), and have non responsive owners, managers, and staff to your concerns. read more

This place was great! My boyfriend and I (25 and 27 years old respectively) stayed here for a couple nights just to clear our minds and get away from the hustle and bustle of Chicago. We were by far the youngest visitors in town, but we were ok with hanging out amongst the blue hairs. We needed the peace and quiet. The resort has a good location - right on the bay so you can see the water and nice sunsets. Not a perfect view since you see the other side of the bay, but better than a lot of the little resort motels in Door County. I think next time we'll stay closer to the northern tip (closer to Ellison Bay) so we can get the uninterrupted view of the lake without seeing land on the other side. The resort was nice - friendly staff, upkept grounds, decent amenities in the rooms. Definitely needs some updating, especially in the hallways. Their continental breakfast is laughable but adorable. Tiny muffins, pieces of strudels, pieces of scones. Do what you can to save a couple bucks, huh, Pine Grove? Haha - it sufficed but was a little funny to see. Overall we had a great stay and encourage any first time Door County visitors to try Pine Grove resort. The whirlpool topped off the whole trip! read more

Great customer service. Beautiful fall landscaping of the grounds. Comfortable rooms (pillows and mattress were very comfortable). Great view of Green Bay from our little balcony. But above all, great location. This hotel is walking distance to the shops and restaurants of Ephraim and a short drive to either Fish Creek or Sister Bay. Really close to Peninsula State Park. So happy to stay here and minimize the driving all over the place. Oh! And almost forgot to mention a wonderful little amenity! We've been visiting Door County for 40 years. This is the first time we've been welcomed to our room with a personalized note, a bag containing a few snacks, complimentary water in the fridge and some popcorn for the microwave! Nice touch Pine Grove Resort! The continental breakfast is a nice touch, too. read more

The outside was beautiful. The pool/hot tub were great!! B U T--- the room,not so much. Hotel needs to be updated to the present era. i have parkinsons so getting in/out of the bed was exhausting to say the least!! i went to plug in my cord for my tablet,the outlet face plate was MISSING!! BARE wires as well. S C A R Y!! carpet was,well, like I said this place needs updating. Give "Anthony" from "Hotel Impossible" a call, he could help you I'm sure of it. Breakfast was really good,friendly staff. Need to post a time limit on your gazebo across the street from resort. We couldn't even get near it!! I've stayed at Pine Grove twice upon visits to Door County and loved it. The suites are large, updated and comfortable, haven't stayed in any other rooms yet. The second time we stayed was in the lower level which had a bit more street noise, would recommend second level. Staff is always very accommodating, complimentary breakfast is good (no hot food but good selection) and although we've never used the pool, it looks very well kept. Although it's a bit of a drive for most of the activities, you're only 5 min from Fish Creek. The front desk staff recommendations were great, can't wait to get back to Door County. Only negative was a weak wifi signal but I just used the data on my phone. read more

One star for location. One star for the people. That's it. Clean but so old it was hard to tell. Horrible bed and pillows. Needs to be updated. Glad we stayed during week and our room fee was 126.00 vs 189.00 for weekend. I don't like beating up on places. The people are nice. The pool was nice. The location was nice. However, the place needs a makeover. The bath tub is gold with 1970's molded sea shells in it. Anyway... We would not go back. read more
