Edgewater Resort & Condominiums - Living room in the condo

Edgewater Resort & Condominiums

Wow! That's my one-word review for Edgewater. I stayed in one of their small condos while I was…read morevisiting Door County, and it was a spectacular experience. I knew this place would be great when I stepped into the condo and saw that my bedroom had a giant jacuzzi tub in it. Plus a fireplace in the bedroom and the living room! The coziness and luxuriousness was turned up all the way to 11 here. My condo also had a balcony that faced east and overlooked Lake Michigan. I visited when it was snowy and cold, so I didn't get to sit out on the balcony, but I loved looking at the sun coming up over the water every morning. The condo had a full kitchen: refrigerator, stove and oven, coffee maker, dishwasher, bar counter seating, all of the utensils and dishes and cups and storage space you could desire. It was like a home away from home. Plus, there was a living room, small dining room, and a big bathroom, with a shower that had great water pressure. If I visited during warmer weather, I would have taken advantage of the pool outside. But I visited when there was snow on the ground, so the pool was closed, obviously. They do have a gym here. I was able to visit the fitness center each day of my stay, and it also has a dry sauna! I didn't use it, but I love that they offer a sauna. Inexplicably, the fitness center also had a bookshelf full of books that you can borrow. The woman at the check-in/check-out desk was lovely, and gave me lots of good tips about the local Door County scene and suggested that I visit a local bar (Bad Moravian), which I ended up visiting and loving. The front desk also has a big bowl of chocolates, so make sure you grab a handful when you stay here.

Quaint older place with a fabulous lakefront view and a number of onsite amenities. Despite the…read morepeaceful location, we were never able to fully relax because the windows (which faced the main drag) didn't lock properly. We were told this was due to the building being so old, and that we should have called for maintenance every time we wanted to close/secure them. (We ended up propping oven racks and a cutting board inside the window tops to prevent them from being opened from the outside.) The doors didn't line up either making it impossible to open them fully. If you don't mind dealing with some of the issues that come along with an older building, this one definitely has a wonderful view and some convenient amenities.

Hillside Waterfront Hotel - Romantic Trillium Suite

Hillside Waterfront Hotel

(5 reviews)

Buyer Beware! I…read moremuch prefer to write positive reviews but we trusted these guys and they so abused our trust that I feel we should warn others. The Hillside Waterfront Hotel is not really an hotel. More like a poorly run Airbnb'? The basic functions of even the most modest hotel are conspicuously absent. At check in there was no one there to greet us, answer questions, help us orient to the area or even help us with our luggage. When we reached out for help via their phone number they were unresponsive for an entire day and when we followed up at the end of day our host chose this moment to make it clear she had more important things to do than respond to guest questions. Perhaps this kind of attitude is typical of Ephraim, Wisconsin? Other things to know: We booked a suite which turned out not to be a suite. Any seasoned traveler will know the difference. They told us they were in very high demand at the height of the fall season but the hotel was empty but for one older couple. Makes sense now. Talking of that couple we only noticed them because the lady nearly fell down the stairs backwards as she struggled upstairs with her bags. Only hosts who don't care about their guests would allow that possibility. The plumbing is terrible. The sink didn't drain properly and the toilet blocked on first use (Not our fault! We know how to care for older plumbing) and of course there was no one on hand to help us The house smells of mold. Old houses sometimes do, but it this is especially bad. Our room was infested with biting bugs! In conclusion, Door County is a stunning area and not to be missed. The same cannot be said for the Hillside Waterfront 'Hotel'.

Very nice resort with heated outdoor swimming pool, hot tub, private beach, and the best shower you…read morecan ever imagine. Let me tell you about the shower: it had a rain showerhead on the ceiling activated by a push button. Temperature was totally adjustable and then there was a handheld sprayer also activated by a button and three sprayers mounted on the wall in front of you that you could aim in different areas of your body and they were activated by a button. Each of them was separately adjustable; for instance, let's say I wanted to do something with the showerheadsthat we're shooting at me from the front - by turning the knob to the left or right I could adjust the pressure. It was the best shower experience I've ever had, OK wow I very much love the resort and the shower, which I spent a lot of time in but there was one negative. There was a table and chairs in the room. The chairs were very uncomfortable to sit in so if you were gonna spend much time in the room, it was difficult however, there was a nice soft couch just outside our room and so when I needed to sit, I sat outside on the couch. There was also room to park a boat in the parking lot, which I did. I plan to go back in the fall to Door County and based on that wonderful shower I think I wanna go back to Bay Breeze Resort. I think you would love it too!

This place makes me want to be an innkeeper when I'm older…read more It's an old 2 building inn nestled off the main road of Hwy 42 in the quaint lil town of Ephraim in Door County. The accommodations were renovated, clean and well-maintained. I stayed in Bill's Room - b/c it was the least expensive boarding with a good reputation. At $80/night (for either on or off season), it's definitely more affordable than the nearby inns/motels. Don't expect a lot of amenities with the small room though - but there is coffee, free WiFi, and cable TV. No phone though, which made things difficult since we had absolutely no reception on our cell phones. A complete Cell Phone Dead Zone - I had to drive out a few minutes onto the 42 in order to call the innkeepers to have them come fix some broken blinds. Inconvenient, but not too bad. As it's a small, family-owned inn, they don't have someone manning the office everyday. But Hugh and Alicia were just a phone call away and would drop by when you needed something. Definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a great place to stay - the other rooms they have available are really nice - w/ fireplaces, sitting areas, etc. Their website is well set up with photos of the rooms and prices for the season. It's centrally located in Ephraim and walking distance to the water and restaurants. Check it out next time you're in Door County!

That's how petty I have to be to find anything negative about the Dorr Hotel. Perfect location. Cozy lobby. Immaculate rooms. Beautiful views. Other fun details: lots of board and yard games. Indoor and outdoor fires. Picnic baskets and other goodies you can check out for your door county adventures. Byredo toiletries! Good plentiful coffee. Friendly staff. Electric car charging ports (2). What are you waiting for?

THE PROS: You are definitely paying a premium for location here- it is right in the middle of the…read moreaction. The ceiling height in the rooms is pretty grand, windows are large ( but had darkening curtains). Overall while the place was busy- guests were courteous about noise levels in common areas. The common spaces were a lot of relaxing areas- just chairs and sofas and tables. They offered a small selection of board games which was nice for families. We did bring our own board games which so it was nice to have a place to be able to sit at a table with our friends and play. Outdoors there is a nice looking fire pit, but we only saw it actually in use once. The rooms have a wine fridge style fridge and a keurig. A microwave was out near the ice machine in the hall for anyone to use. They have happy hour 4-6 and offer a selection of of ciders, beer and wine discounted. The room was clean and hallways were kept nice. THE CONS: We had warned that we would be checking in late- they did make me aware that after 10pm I'd have to use a code sent to my phone and there wouldn't be staff available. So no warm greeting for us which was weird but at least I'd been warned I felt misled though on arriving to the room because the guy on the phone told me I was getting a "king suite"- what I actually got was a normal classic king room. That was a big letdown. I just wish I hadn't have had that idea put in my head. And due to the high rate $$$$ I believed it had to have been more than just the room. That was also a major drawback- every hotel online ordering place I found it it on said to "call the venue to book"- no prices published anywhere - even on their website so when calling you have no idea how much things are. As to the facilities or real extra perks- no pool/hot tub-no gym. Though my husband said they told him he could use an off-site place (not sure if there was a discount offered on that), but it didn't interest us enough to want to go figure that out. They did offer a breakfast, but the con here was that the offerings were basically anything I could have just grabbed from a grocery store store (fruit, bars, bagged boiled eggs, muffins, snack stuff) no hot breakfast here. Last cons were personal experience and will not apply to everyone, but for some reason the toilet paper irritated my skin - it was a recycled brand (which I appreciate normally on principle), but clearly it didn't agree with me. I ended up using Kleenex instead. I use a wheelchair part-time - so I didn't need an ADA room - so I never mentioned that at booking, but I was offered 2 different rooms one on the 1st floor and one on the second. Thinking I would be avoiding waiting for the elevator I chose the first floor. Unfortunately when we arrived we discovered the lobby and entrance are actually on the second floor because it's built into a hill. So to get to the first floor you have to take the elevator down- so much for my plan to help avoid the elevator. OVERALL: It was clean which is my #1 priority and it has a fantastic location. It's high end with great location and pricing reflects that- very expensive - though you won't know that until after you call to book. I feel like for the money we should have stayed elsewhere, but we were booking on short-notice.

The variety of breakfast is a little lacking, but it is a small operation. Our suite was a bit funky, as you walked in through one king bedroom to get to the Living area. There was another king bedroom that was lofted and both have their own en suite bathrooms with a fabulous shower, set up, with a regular head, range, showerhead, and three body sprays. There was an issue one night, where there was a constant clicking, and being a musician. I measured it with my metronome, it clicked 42 time per minute. The manager and this person went on the roof themselves to try to discover the problem, along with her HVAC service, and found the issue, comping us one entire day. We will definitely try to stay at the same resort on our next trip, and will try to book far enough in advance to get the penthouse suites!
