Hotel is very nice, staff and accommodations are top notch. Will be our place each time we head to Door County

I cannot say enough about this place. First I will say, I was looking for dog friendly. This is the most dog friendly place I have stayed so far in WI. First time I stayed was Christmas travel. Called direct to make a reservation. It was Christmas so, He was so nice and waved the pet fee for my two large dogs. We arrived and checked in quite easily. He was helpful, answered all of our questions and gave recommendations. Very nice. On arrival. We went hiking and cove park and White dunes state park and it was cold! Snow storm. Even still, there was a really nice fenced dog area. Quite large really. There was a nice basket for toys and extra leashes, dog bags of course. The dogs loved it! They ran around and jumped on the picnic table in the middle. The room. See pics. I was very surprised. It was quite large, lots of space. Bathroom large. Plenty of space for the dog bowls. Oh wait let me say that there was a basket for pets! Dog bowls, a bag of treats, a bed and a blanket and a beloved tennis ball. So sweet. The bed and bedding was comfy with plenty of pillows. Larger room than usual in my experience. Plenty of entrances and ways to the outdoors, front desk and dog park. It is very welcoming, even during a snowy storm and cold. there are areas with comfy chairs outside with a gas fire pit that is toasty. I was surprised but it was quite nice and warm! We stayed again in January for some ice fishing and the dogs knew right what to do and where their treats and ball were. Throughout the whole hotel, there were pet decorations and just really cozy. Very clean and upkeep was amazing. The property is beautiful. They do have a small amount of wine and beer at the desk, pizza that they can make you if you're stuck in and snacks. Prices are very reasonable and convenient. Oh yeah, there is a really cute, nice pool area. We didn't use it but I would recommend it! Highly recommended! I'm not sure what it'l like in season but I would definitely recommend it in off season! They do everything right at this place. What great planning on a wonderful property! read more

Our weekend stay at Open Hearth was great! The owner/staff were so accommodating and nice. He was always available at the front desk. The rooms were clean. The amenities were nice - I loved the fire pit in the front and back, the board games and books available to guests and also the variety of beer, wine, snacks and frozen pizza for guests to enjoy. They also have a pool and hot tub that looked nice. This place is also dog friendly!! They have dog friendly rooms on the first floor and a door on one end that leads to a gated area for dogs. All in all, this place has it all and it was very nice. read more

unfortunately my review is not based on staying there but more on the money back guarantee . I had to cancel , which I did back in December. 2025 . I was assured I would get a credit on my charge . did not happen. I then called a few times and was assured they would send a check . immediately , nothing . it's been 2 weeks . the policy is full refund to a specific date , which I'm under less the 15 dollar service fee. sounds good . but still no credit , no check . The people were nice , just not getting my refund and 348 dollars is a lot to lose . I hope this is seen by someone of authority . if I get my check I will gladly reverse my rating. 3 months is a long time to wait for a refund . Edit I need to edit my review , I finally received my money the day after I posted this review. Thank you for sending it. I still feel the time frame was too long , but I have it and I am appreciative of receiving it. read more

Extremely Disappointed with Front Desk Experience! As a professional working for a travel agency, I contacted Open Hearth Lodge to inquire about a reservation I booked on behalf of a client. Unfortunately, my interaction with Sally at the front desk was anything but welcoming. She answered the phone with a noticeably unprofessional tone and immediately told me I "did not book the reservation," despite my having a confirmation number from the lodge's own website. When I began reading the confirmation number, she abruptly cut me off and said, "We don't have confirmation numbers like that -- sorry, I can't help you," and hung up! I attempted to call back multiple times -- 2 to 3 calls were answered and then instantly disconnected. After several more tries, I finally got through again, only to be told I couldn't speak to a manager and would have to call back after 4 PM. As someone conducting business on behalf of a client -- who is currently without confirmation of their booking -- I found the entire interaction extremely unprofessional and frustrating. The website doesn't allow us to retrieve bookings independently, so we rely on staff assistance. Unfortunately, that support was completely lacking. I sincerely hope this experience is not typical of Open Hearth Lodge, but based on my interaction, I would hesitate to recommend it to future clients. A welcoming lodge should begin with helpful, respectful customer service -- not repeated hang-ups and dismissiveness. read more

All round wonderful. Staff is so kind and full of recommendations (good ones) coffee there is so good, breakfast was great. Place was very clean. Plus a pool & hot tub but we didn't check it out. Perfect for us and our 2 samoyeds. Amenities we loved- whirlpool for humans, and for dogs - dog bed, blankets, sheetes, towels, food and water bowls, and a bag of treats and poop bags. The dog play area right outside our door, doggy art on the walls and all the dog amenities was very welcoming for us and our fur babies. Hot fresh coffee and nice continental breakfast, too. It was very clean and had a nice pool and hot tub. The out door campfires were very nice and welcoming. John also had great advice on local attractions. We really enjoyed our stay. Everything is fabulous! Door County flavored coffee in their continental breakfast, a market to grab snacks and food, and comfy rooms. I arrived during a snow storm and the owner, and another guest, pushed my car out of the snowy parking lot! The rental didn't have snow tires. So helpful! read more

I used to stay here with my parents sometimes when up in Door County in the mid 90s- early 2000s and I continue to come back as an adult. I could not recommend this place more. It's on a beautiful, quiet property with lovely decor, gathering spaces with fireplaces, a great continental breakfast, beautiful pool and hot tub space, and the father and son team who operate the place are wonderful. On top of that, they are very accommodating with dogs (probably the only place in northern door). I stayed there this week for the first time since the pandemic and I was so impressed with the new wing they built and the added dog amenities- including a dog park, dog bed, treats and bowls. My dog felt so comfortable I even stayed one extra night than I had initially planned. I have family and friends in Door County, but I like to spend time with them and then return to this peaceful space in the evening with my dog while I'm up there. It works out well. I highly recommend this place. read more

This place gets better each time we get to come here. When you book rooms, try 220. The pictures we posted show how nice, even pocket doors to separate other tv and seating area with sleeper couch too. They treat us like royalty at this this location. I'm so amazed by this place and will definitely be back! So modern and spacious king room is actually a suite! Love the pocket doors to have privacy and comfy furniture. Felt like I was in a perfect apartment with all the amenities! The only issues were the late start times f breakfast at 7:30, pobut perhaps due to labor shortages and being family business and only one person working all shifts is understandable. Quality and comfort throughout and I cannot wait to go back! read more

We took a chance on this place by just looking on the Internet, and not looking at any reviews. We are beyond pleasantly surprised. It's clean, it's a great location, the grounds are beautiful, there's a fire pit . It's very clean and slowly being remodeled. Indoor heated pool & hot tub . They also have electric car charging station s. They even have cute tees , cups, wines, & even frozen pizza they cook for you if you want. Wonderful place. We stayed there years ago.... Perhaps 15. This year my wife and I went there for a few days over July 4th. It's greatly expanded but is still a warm welcoming place. Both the management and staff are excellent and will bend over backwards to take care of any needs. Upon arrival, the manager (perhaps owner I'm not sure) saw that we had mobility issues and, while there were no accessible rooms available, he moved a bunch of rooms around just so we would not have as far to walk. He did not have to do this, but did so without our even asking. That's "over and above" hospitality. read more

Beautiful place to stay with super clean rooms, pool, hot tub, and spacious outdoor seating area with huge gas fire pits for those chilly but memorable nights. Also has a large dining area inside for free continental breakfast. The room had all the nice amenities of refrigerator, coffee maker , etc. and beds were newer and very comfortable and tons of unbelievable comfy pillows! Room was very clean and updated. You will be coming back here over and over. Staff is very friendly and polite and always available. Late night snack vending machines are a plus also. Fireplace and seating area in lobby for reading and sipping wine or coffee to meet friends or just for some soletude. read more

We first planned to stay here in the winter of 2021 for the Christkindlmarket, but we had to cancel at the last minute. Because of this they gave us a gift certificate towards a future stay. Since we try to come up at least once a year this worked out perfectly. We usually like to stay somewhere different every year and we have stayed in some nice places but haven't found that "one place" where we have to stay...Yet! We may have finally found our place. There is nothing about our stay I would change, the staff and the guests we met were so nice. It was a very enjoyable stay. The rooms are larger and very well kept. The place is very very clean and inviting. It was more like staying at someone's house than a hotel. We like to stay in the Ephraim / Sister Bay area and they have a great location, just outside of town. We sat and met some other guests around the fire pit one night and had a great time. They have a large space in the back for activities, a great place to stay with a group. I very much look forward to returning again next year read more

Stayed here over the weekend and have zero complaints. Everything was so extremely clean and organized. The man at the front desk (Jacob?) was so friendly and accommodating. At night, we hit the hot tub and it was very nice and relaxing. I'll be staying here again whenever I'm in Door County and will recommend to anyone. read more

Awesome stay despite a cold, wet stretch of weather. Got the dog-friendly room that included a doggie bag with treats and a ball, dog bed and blanket, and plenty of towels. There was even a dog wash area complete with oatmeal shampoo and conditioner which was great after our muddy hike and visit to the dog park. Door County Coffee and donuts were a delicious start to the day. Got a pizza from the front desk that was delivered hot to our room. Highly recommend if you are traveling with your pup. read more

This place is an amazing place to stay for a week in dorcounty it is so welcoming and nice and it is pet friendly like WHAT! Some flaws where, we came here during the late fall and the hot tub was broken down and the main pool did not smell sanitary. The elevator is extremely slow and when you just walk in it dose smell a bit strange. But other wise amazing place to stay. (P.s. a lot of old people come here and when you have a younger family you kinda feel like an odd one out) read more

Awesome spot to stay in Door county. Rooms are spacious and clean. Me and the girlfriend got the king bed whirlpool and we throughly enjoyed the room. The location is excellent as it's on the south side of sister bay. The pool is nice. We did not go to the nightly fire on the back patio but we heard very good things about it. My family has been coming here for 30+ years, but this will be the last time we stay here thanks to the new owner (previous owner's grandson). No experience with him has been good, he's ruining what his grandparents worked so hard to build. Immediately at check in, there was a sour taste in our mouth. We asked questions about the Kris Kringle market as parking changed this year. The owner could not care less, telling us "How should I know? I just work in the hotel". Come to find out the answer was written on a whiteboard in a lobby and in a paper also in their lobby, but he could clearly care less. Coffee was empty every morning in their breakfast nook. One morning while we were attempting to get coffee, the owner bumped into us whilst refilling it, didn't say "excuse me" or "sorry". Their hot tub closes at 10:00pm, but at 9:50 he will stand in the door of the hot tub staring at you waiting for you to leave. He'll give you a "2 minute warning" at 9:55 and even after you tell him there's more time he just puts his hands at his hips and stares blankly at you. He told us he needs to workout because he's in the army, which I can respect, but I am not in the army and do not appreciate being talked to like he's my drill sergeant. It's very disappointing to see the lack of respect for patrons from the new owner. Don't expect this place to last at this rate. Everyone we know who's stayed here in the past seems to have similar feelings. This place was great, but is going downhill fast under new management. read more

If we could give this place 10 stars we would... 1) the rooms are CLEAN and comfortable. We had a mini fridge which was super helpful b/c we like to take our leftovers to enjoy later 2) the property...so beautifully maintained. I wish I could have their backyard year round. They have an amazing fire pit, beautiful landscaping...the patio was a vacation in and of itself 3) breakfast...continental breakfast every morning and I heard that they MAKE the donuts on site..Don't miss out on these delicious rings baked with love! And A++ for good coffee in the am! 4) the indoor pool and sauna area are clean and so relaxing! Everything is enclosed but with large windows to view the outside you can enjoy this year round! 5) Everyone on staff was amazing and really went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. Had THE most delightful conversation with the owner and his son. 6) they have a bike garage you can keep your bike safe in if you come up to the area to bike...no lugging your bike up to your room or worrying about it locked to your rack. 6a) We didn't use their gym/sauna facilities as we worked off enough calories biking...but we did check it out and they have a well equipped area to get your fitness on. 7) if you are staying here and miss your furry friend at home, just ask if 'Loki" is around. He is the son's 4 yo Berner Doodle -absolutely gorgeous and such a good pup! 8) THANK YOU OPEN HEARTH for an amazing couple of days in Door County! We will be back soon! read more

We had no power at home in Baileys Harbor & spent the night with our dog at Open Hearth...what a treat! The manager couldn't have been kinder. The room was clean, well appointed & had a dog bed, treats & dog bowls. Great bed, plush bath towels, great coffee and breakfast items in lobby. So fortunate a friend recommended this cozy, well run lodge. I'm happy out power is back on, but wouldn't have minded staying there longer! Very reasonable prices & great location! read more

My family and I have been coming here for over a decade and each time seems to be better than the last! I have stayed at many places around Door County, and I can say that none have the hospitality or the quality of stay as Open Hearth Lodge. My favorite time to stay here is during the winter months because the ambiance created by the cabin-like interior along with the snowy outside which makes everything feel like it's out of a Christmas story. The owners are the nicest people as well, and they show their passion for their establishment by making sure everything is perfect for their customers. The beds are really comfortable, everything is always very clean, the pools/hot tub/workout facility is always in superb condition, and the free breakfast is stocked everyday. It can be hard to find a vacancy here, but I highly recommend it as the first choice! read more

I was pretty pleased with Open Hearth Lodge. I booked it using an online service. I was trying to stay on a pretty small budget and was afraid I was sacrificing quality, but Open Hearth exceeded my expectations. The hotel is very quaint and well kept. The pool area was very enjoyable and my friends and I really enjoyed the large lawn that the lodge offers as well. The continental breakfast had a reasonable spread. There was even a pancake station. My only issue relates to sustainability. I was really pleased to see that the shampoo and other toiletries offered in the rooms came in biodegradable packaging. I'm a big fan of businesses that recognize their environmental impact. However, at the continental breakfast, all of the plates, bowls, and cups were made of styrofoam. I just really wish businesses in Wisconsin would get rid of styrofoam considering it's negative impact on the environment. read more

Pros: Clean rooms, comfortable beds, short drive to the downtown area, great water pressure. Cons: Noisy. Not only did our toilet run nonstop but you can literally hear conversations in the hallway and outside. I am not sure if it isn't well insulated or that all the other patrons were very loud talkers and heavy walkers, but it was anything but peaceful. The continental breakfast was a joke. Our room was great, the beds were great, the owners are very nice people. Our room didn't have a bathtub, maybe others do, I'm not sure, but if that's important, be sure to look into that. We loved staying here! It is a super cute place and the management was awesome. We brought our boat up for Memorial Day weekend and they let us park the boat in a special place and put down a cone so that was our spot. Rooms were very homey, comfortable and clean. They even have a fridge with local bottles of wine that you can pick from. I am very critical when picking a hotel and I would highly recommend this place! Very affordable too. read more
