It's been a while since I stayed at a motel (as opposed to hotel), but motels and B&B's are really the only lodging available in Door County. We found this place online, saw it had good ratings, and decided to book it. We were pleasantly surprised with how clean and spacious and updated the room was. The room was set up like a small one bedroom apartment, and reminded me more of a Hyatt Place or Hilton Homewood Suites than some independent motel. I liked how quiet it was. (Shaking my head about the other reviewer who rated the hotel poorly because the owner/manager told her granddaughter she could not be yelling and doing cartwheels in the room. Just because it's not a "normal" hour to be sleeping doesn't mean other paying guests want to be subjected to that, especially when many go to Door County to get some rest and relaxation. Kudos to the owner/manager for speaking up.) I also liked how well-kept the grounds, including the pool, were. Also nice was the ability to park right near our room. The free continental breakfast was a nice bonus.
Only issue is that there were gnats in the room. I didn't bring it up to the hotel management because there were just a few, and I figured they came in through the door when we were going in and out, or through the window screens (and was no reflection on the cleanliness of the motel itself). I don't really know if there is anything that could have been done to prevent this, especially given that is a wooded rural area, but maybe Cutter spray and/or a bug zapper would have helped. read more
