The room was outdated and it was the Worst night sleep ever. The mattress was full size not queen so my husband and I barely fit. It was as hard as a board and the room smelled damp like a musty basement. In the morning my clothes were damp, the blanket was damp and all the clothes in my suitcase was damp. Moisture must be a problem. This was overpriced and not at all worth the money we spent which was around $170. We won't stay here again.

What a terrific stay! How can I begin? We checked in early (about 2:00pm) and were received graciously by Angie Meacham, the owner. She gave us recommendations on the best places to eat and events in the town. We stayed in room 114, a suite with a fold out couch and a separate bedroom (we had two kids with us, a terrific idea). Very close to both pools we went swimming right away in the outdoor pool, which was wonderfully clean- no grass/leaves, no remnants of animals. We made sandwiches in our room for dinner one night. We packed a large cooler but were happily surprised we had a large "mini" fridge (oxymoron) with a little freezer, also a microwave, a 12 cup coffee maker and a set of dishes! What thought! In and out of both pools for two days, try kept our towels well stocked. At night, we watched cable TV (a treat we don't have at home) and movie we brought since there was a DVD player. There were a lot of board games in the lobby, nice to get away from a screen, and windows between the indoor pool and lobby so we could watch the kids in peace while playing Scrabble. We were pleased about the convenient parking and back door for easy access when we unloaded our belongings. The room had new carpet and a big shower, both important to me. The bed was comfortable and there were extra pillows! Given our "vacation diet" consisting of pizza, burgers and cheese curds, I had some pretty bad reflux but I didn't bring any antacids/ TUMS with me. I walked down to the office to see if I could buy any, which she didn't have available for purchase but Angie was so sweet and let me have a few of hers! When we return to Door County we will be staying at Somerset Inn, guaranteed.

My boyfriend and I needed a mini-getaway so we went to Door County for the weekend. My boyfriend found this place online and decided to book it the morning we left. When we arrived to check in the lady at the counter (I believe she was the owner) was very friendly and offered us a free upgrade! The room was very nice and offered lots of space. I wish we could've stayed longer to enjoy it more! Next time we stop up we will definitely try to stay here :)

I've only ever been here in the fall so I've never been in the outdoor pool, but I do know that there is one.

Edgewater Resort & Condominiums - Living room in the condo

Wow! That's my one-word review for Edgewater. I stayed in one of their small condos while I was…read morevisiting Door County, and it was a spectacular experience. I knew this place would be great when I stepped into the condo and saw that my bedroom had a giant jacuzzi tub in it. Plus a fireplace in the bedroom and the living room! The coziness and luxuriousness was turned up all the way to 11 here. My condo also had a balcony that faced east and overlooked Lake Michigan. I visited when it was snowy and cold, so I didn't get to sit out on the balcony, but I loved looking at the sun coming up over the water every morning. The condo had a full kitchen: refrigerator, stove and oven, coffee maker, dishwasher, bar counter seating, all of the utensils and dishes and cups and storage space you could desire. It was like a home away from home. Plus, there was a living room, small dining room, and a big bathroom, with a shower that had great water pressure. If I visited during warmer weather, I would have taken advantage of the pool outside. But I visited when there was snow on the ground, so the pool was closed, obviously. They do have a gym here. I was able to visit the fitness center each day of my stay, and it also has a dry sauna! I didn't use it, but I love that they offer a sauna. Inexplicably, the fitness center also had a bookshelf full of books that you can borrow. The woman at the check-in/check-out desk was lovely, and gave me lots of good tips about the local Door County scene and suggested that I visit a local bar (Bad Moravian), which I ended up visiting and loving. The front desk also has a big bowl of chocolates, so make sure you grab a handful when you stay here.

Despite the…read morepeaceful location, we were never able to fully relax because the windows (which faced the main drag) didn't lock properly. We were told this was due to the building being so old, and that we should have called for maintenance every time we wanted to close/secure them. (We ended up propping oven racks and a cutting board inside the window tops to prevent them from being opened from the outside.) The doors didn't line up either making it impossible to open them fully. If you don't mind dealing with some of the issues that come along with an older building, this one definitely has a wonderful view and some convenient amenities.

Hillside Waterfront Hotel - Romantic Trillium Suite

Hillside Waterfront Hotel

Buyer Beware! I…read moremuch prefer to write positive reviews but we trusted these guys and they so abused our trust that I feel we should warn others. The Hillside Waterfront Hotel is not really an hotel. More like a poorly run Airbnb'? The basic functions of even the most modest hotel are conspicuously absent. At check in there was no one there to greet us, answer questions, help us orient to the area or even help us with our luggage. When we reached out for help via their phone number they were unresponsive for an entire day and when we followed up at the end of day our host chose this moment to make it clear she had more important things to do than respond to guest questions. Perhaps this kind of attitude is typical of Ephraim, Wisconsin? Other things to know: We booked a suite which turned out not to be a suite. Any seasoned traveler will know the difference. They told us they were in very high demand at the height of the fall season but the hotel was empty but for one older couple. Makes sense now. Talking of that couple we only noticed them because the lady nearly fell down the stairs backwards as she struggled upstairs with her bags. Only hosts who don't care about their guests would allow that possibility. The plumbing is terrible. The sink didn't drain properly and the toilet blocked on first use (Not our fault! We know how to care for older plumbing) and of course there was no one on hand to help us The house smells of mold. Old houses sometimes do, but it this is especially bad. Our room was infested with biting bugs! In conclusion, Door County is a stunning area and not to be missed. The same cannot be said for the Hillside Waterfront 'Hotel'.

Let me tell you about the shower: it had a rain showerhead on the ceiling activated by a push button. Temperature was totally adjustable and then there was a handheld sprayer also activated by a button and three sprayers mounted on the wall in front of you that you could aim in different areas of your body and they were activated by a button. Each of them was separately adjustable; for instance, let's say I wanted to do something with the showerheadsthat we're shooting at me from the front - by turning the knob to the left or right I could adjust the pressure. It was the best shower experience I've ever had, OK wow I very much love the resort and the shower, which I spent a lot of time in but there was one negative. There was a table and chairs in the room. The chairs were very uncomfortable to sit in so if you were gonna spend much time in the room, it was difficult however, there was a nice soft couch just outside our room and so when I needed to sit, I sat outside on the couch. There was also room to park a boat in the parking lot, which I did. I plan to go back in the fall to Door County and based on that wonderful shower I think I wanna go back to Bay Breeze Resort. I think you would love it too!

This place makes me want to be an innkeeper when I'm older…read more It's an old 2 building inn nestled off the main road of Hwy 42 in the quaint lil town of Ephraim in Door County. The accommodations were renovated, clean and well-maintained. I stayed in Bill's Room - b/c it was the least expensive boarding with a good reputation. At $80/night (for either on or off season), it's definitely more affordable than the nearby inns/motels. Don't expect a lot of amenities with the small room though - but there is coffee, free WiFi, and cable TV. No phone though, which made things difficult since we had absolutely no reception on our cell phones. A complete Cell Phone Dead Zone - I had to drive out a few minutes onto the 42 in order to call the innkeepers to have them come fix some broken blinds. Inconvenient, but not too bad. As it's a small, family-owned inn, they don't have someone manning the office everyday. But Hugh and Alicia were just a phone call away and would drop by when you needed something. Definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a great place to stay - the other rooms they have available are really nice - w/ fireplaces, sitting areas, etc. Their website is well set up with photos of the rooms and prices for the season. It's centrally located in Ephraim and walking distance to the water and restaurants. Check it out next time you're in Door County!

Dorr is a lovely, comforting, modern hotel with the hot trendy Scandinavian vibe that's all the rage right now. Their open lobby is like a living room in a big beautiful home or lodge. Cozy fireplace with a bar on one side. Grab coffee or tea any time of day or night and relax by the fire, or engage in a jigsaw puzzle or game with your kids. The best part is that the location couldn't be more convenient. You can easily walk to shops, restaurants and the beach right across the street! The harbor is right there too so you can hop right over for your boating adventures. Chop, the steak house right next door is literally steps away. Famous Al Johnson's is a quick stroll (which is important to note since that place usually will form a line out the door early that lasts all day). We also enjoyed shopping, ice cream after dinner, bowling on rainy days, and Lure, the seafood restaurant (similar to Chop with emphasis on sea). Plus it's an easy drive into Ephraim, Fish Creek or Egg Harbor to enjoy what the other towns have to offer as far as shopping or dining. (I think Fish Creek has the best shopping. While my husband and sons are boating, that's my jam!) The hotel rooms all come with balconies or patios. There's a nice open courtyard with a fire table to enjoy later, or at happy hour (Chop next door has a happy hour, but so does the hotel bar). I think it would be cool if they brought a rolling bar outside for happy hour on the patio...Chop might not like that tho. The hotel rooms are padded with modern comforts one expects these days. Unless you or someone you know owns a cabin up here (which can be great too), why bother to stay somewhere else?

The variety of breakfast is a little lacking, but it is a small operation. Our suite was a bit funky, as you walked in through one king bedroom to get to the Living area. There was another king bedroom that was lofted and both have their own en suite bathrooms with a fabulous shower, set up, with a regular head, range, showerhead, and three body sprays. There was an issue one night, where there was a constant clicking, and being a musician. I measured it with my metronome, it clicked 42 time per minute. The manager and this person went on the roof themselves to try to discover the problem, along with her HVAC service, and found the issue, comping us one entire day. We will definitely try to stay at the same resort on our next trip, and will try to book far enough in advance to get the penthouse suites!
