Ski runs are very short but it's a good place to practice without a huge crowd. Turning wide is hard because they're fairly narrow. There were lots of ruts so you have to watch out. Chair lift is good but the smaller runs with rope tows are annoying because they're difficult to get started on and you get held up if someone falls. Rental equipment is easy to get and seems to be in decent shape. Food options aren't great but it's edible. It's about what you'd expect out of a freezer bag. Price is decent but it's hard to say great because it's essentially underwhelming school cafeteria food. read more

(This is only for the golf course) Me and my friend were just playing golf and driving the cart then a service guy came up to us and was being very rude to me and my friend he was saying we can't drive on the fair way every golf course I went to we were able to drive on the fair way so we were finding our balls driving on the fair way and the rude guy said ( if I catch you two driving on the fair way again I will ban you from this place for good and I'll make sure you never come back ) me and my friend apologize to him at least 10 times and he didn't even say a thing back but there was this very nice guy were you get the tee time set up. I don't know what happened with their brunch but it has gone downhill. The eggs Benedict was sitting so long getting steamed that the muffins were like hockey picks, you could not even cut it with the knife, same with the French toast, the dessert table has gone downhill to cutting donuts in half and displaying them and the cut of cake was so thin I am surprised it made it onto the plate without falling apart. The orange juice was so bitter there was no way to drink it. Even the beef at the station was overcooked to medium which was tough to eat sliced thin. Went to Villa Olivia for brunch for my mother-in-law and my wife just three of us cost $212. They did not have a sign when you walked in saying that the brunch was exceptionally high at $55 a person. They also included a 20% gratuity when the service sucked all the food was cold. That was horrible experience. I would not recommend to anyone to go there for any kind of brunch or food? had no hash brown potatoes. no waffle station no prime rib pretty high price for what was served. read more

We had a very frustrating experience at Villa Olivia today. Before driving out, we called their snow line specifically to confirm that skiing was open, and the recording said that it was. We arrived to find the ski hill completely closed and empty -- no staff, no skiers, nothing. Trying to salvage the day for our kids (who were beyond excited to experience snow activities for the first time), we figured we'd at least go snow tubing. We carried all of our gear inside in the cold, only to be told at the front desk that snow tubing is reservation-only and absolutely no walk-ins are allowed. Here's the problem: NOWHERE on their website does it clearly state that snow tubing requires a reservation and NO WALK INS ARE ALLOWED!! There were also people visibly finishing tubing sessions and leaving early, yet we were told there was zero flexibility and no possibility of accommodating walk-ins -- despite open lanes and families exiting. We drove hours with kids, hauled snow gear, and left with nothing but disappointment. This could have been avoided with clear website communication and an accurate snow line update. If you're considering coming here, do not rely on the snow line, and do not assume tubing is available without a reservation -- even if conditions appear open. Very upsetting experience for a family outing, and unfortunately we won't be returning. read more

We enjoy coming to Villa Olivia for their Sunday brunch. There's a wide variety of good food to choose from. Breakfast classics like scrambled eggs, French toast, waffles, omelettes made to order. There's a carving station with roast beef. Also roast potatoes, pasta, fish, eggs Benedict (sooo good!) So much more too. Service is great and you can't beat the ambiance of looking out at the golf course. All at a very reasonable price. They make a pretty good bloody Mary, BTW. read more

I play Villa Olivia about twice a month, and my experience is usually very good. The course is fun, well laid out, and always keeps me coming back. The back 9 are definitely the highlight -- especially the Par 5, downhill Hole 13, which is always a blast to play. The staff is friendly, the pace of play is usually solid, and the course conditions are generally well-maintained. The only reason I didn't go with 5 stars is that a few areas, like some tee boxes and bunkers, could use a little more upkeep to really bring the course to top shape. That said, Villa Olivia remains one of my favorite local spots, and I look forward to every round here. read more

Weather was not on our side but the staff quickly reacted and rearranged everything and within 1 hour we were doing an indoor ceremony. This was my first time ever going snow tubing and it was so much fun!!!! The slope has maybe five or six lanes. People can choose to go by themselves or connect themselves with a friend. I couldn't even tell you how many times I went, it was so much fun! The speed and bumps add to the exhilaration. There is a moving ramp so that you don't have to walk back up the slope. It's not too long of a wait between slides, probably about a 5 minute wait. Villa Olivia also offers skiing which I have not yet explored. It's also a banquet hall with plenty of spaces and rooms. I appreciated that there were indoor bathrooms and a rest area so that people could come in and warm up if they needed a break. There's also a concession stand inside with hot chocolate and some snacks. This winter was not a classic Illinois winter at all but they do maintain the slope so it's not melting away. Service was good, many of them enjoying letting us race and joking around. Our tickets were $30 per person for two hours which was completely fair in my opinion and very affordable. I think snow tubing is also a great activity for all ages and I did feel very safe. I really enjoyed snow tubing with Villa Olivia! I will definitely be back as I think I want to make snow tubing an annual winter tradition. I'll also be trying out skiing in the future! read more

This is strictly based on the skiing/snowboarding experience. I have a season pass to a real ski resort in WI, but decided to check out this place, since they were running half priced "lift" tickets. I knew Villa Olivia wasn't huge and recommended for beginners rather than intermediate/advanced riders. But I did not expect this.....This is the stuff nightmares are made of. First off, the one lift they do have was shut down, as well as that side of the hill, which is what I came to check out. The only thing open for $23 was a hill that is smaller than my local sledding hill (which is free). I understand that the tickets were discounted, but nowhere was this mentioned prior to purchasing. Surprise, surprise, NO REFUNDS. Totally misleading, but I tried to make the best of it. Next up, the downright dangerous rope tow situation. There were huge craters and ruts all over the rope tow area. I mean BIG! Not little imperfections from people using them. You can tell these were never properly groomed prior to opening. Kids were falling into the center of the two ropes and getting stuck. Wreckless teenagers were flying up, completely out of control, and hurtling off to the side, hitting other people and their equipment. After I got my equipment run into a couple of times, I decided this sledding hill was not worth trashing hundreds of dollars worth of gear. The sad part is, this could so easily be fixed by cleaning up the snow a little and having some workers supervise the area. Ya know like most resorts typically do with rope tows/magic carpets/lifts? Especially when you have so many young beginners falling and fearful. A tiny bit of supervision and grooming would drastically improve this situation. So I will chalk this up to this place just being intentionally negligent. If you have ever been to any other ski resort, steer clear of this one. You will feel robbed, even at a discount. The only way I could recommend checking out Villa Olivia is if you've been unappreciative of your regular resort. I can promise you, you will appreciate it again after VO. If you're thinking of taking your kids or some beginner friends, please reconsider. There are so many safe and well maintained places in the Midwest. Take them somewhere that will help them love the sport, not hate it. read more

I had 2 recent experiences at Villa Olivia, a banquet and brunch. Lisa in sales was a tremendous help in navigating all out options for the banquet and the food was terrific. The highlight was for sure the service, their staff was outstanding! Always there when we needed something. It is SO rare to have an opportunity to compliment service people so I wanted to make sure to recognize them. Secondly, we were so excited to see an all you can eat brunch, haven't seen one in years! This is a review for the skiing/snowboarding part of Villa Olivia. It's a very small ski area that is in the middle of the NW suburbs of Chicago. For that I love it. I don't have to drive up to Wisconsin or go to Colorado to get an afternoon or late evening ski in. This place is great for beginners. Don't go here if you want extreme sports or a challenge. The double diamond is more like a green run at almost any other place in the country. So why the 4 stars...cuz it's great for beginners and close to home. They are friendly, have all the rental equipment, lessons, one lift, have a small selection of gear for sale (goggles, hats, etc), make their own snow (so you usually won't find powder here unless it's snowing, but Midwest skiing is all about skiing on icy snow anyway), and they are open till 9:30 most evenings. Check out their website they go over all the details. Here's a little back story: So years ago I broke my wrist being an idiot and trying to do some ski jumps. I saw blue sky and then felt a crunch. Prior to this I skied annually for years and you would usually find me on the double diamonds flying down and loving the adrenaline high. After this...it took me 3 years to get back on a slope, and I had to force myself, barely challenging myself. So input Villa Olivia.... more years passed and this season I decided to get pass my fear that has now built up into a mountain...so I decided to start as a beginner.... on the bunny hills at Villa Olivia with a rope tow and a snowboard. Only reason this place is getting a 2 star instead of a 1 star is because the workers were some baddies other the. That the place was absolutely dog water, on the website they only provided information that the ski resort was open but what they forgot to include was that the ski lift was closed and that the rest of the hill was occupied by ski school making it impossible to ski for more then 2 seconds before reaching the bottom of the hill, in conclusion experience was bad but if they just provided information about the hill could have saved everybody a lot of time and money. read more

Went to Villa Olivia last night to go snowboarding. It was my daughters birthday and we have family in from out of town. None of us are experienced snowboarders and did not know what we were getting ourselves into. Our plans did not go as we thought and after 15 minutes of struggling with equipment, (our fault not theirs) we called it quits. Nobody there was authorized to give us a refund or voucher for another activity but I was given Bobby's business card. Sent him an email and he was very prompt with a return call and provided excellent customer service and compassion for our night that didn't go to plan. He did right by us and did so happily. I also wanted to give a kudos to the staff last night because they sensed our frustration and were very apologetic and kind. Took the kids skiing there for the first time, and they had a great time. The two younger ones are 4Yrs old and 5yrs old and enjoyed the bunny slopes. They were taught to go up the hill on "magic carpet rides" so using the rope tow to get back up the hill was something new to them. Thankfully they picked it up fairly quickly. Took the elder one (9yrs old) on the green slope, and he loved it. However, there were a lot of newbie skiers who kept having trouble getting on the ski chair, losing their skis, getting off the ski chair, etc. And for safety reasons they kept having to stop the ski lift machine. No biggie since we aren't in a rush. But be prepared that it will take some time (and less ski runs). The food court had the usual fare (pizza, burger, etc.). Nothing fancy, but the prices were definitely much more affordable compared to other places. When u add in the quick check-in and rental, we will definitely come back here again. read more

We've lived in the area for about 5 years and finally this year were able to make it to the Tubing slope. The cost I think was reasonable. $20 pp for 2 hours. The staff on the hill itself was mixed. Some were really friendly and attentive and helpful. Some acted like they were stoned and just rolled out of bed and would rather be anywhere but there. At one point, the guy at the top of the hill was not even telling people when to go down the hill, he was talking to some dude on the ski side. They also had their smoking area set up right at the base of where you get on the pulleys to take you to the top, so you had to have smoke in your face for a good 10 minutes everytime. That was really irritating. If you go, go EARLY. After our 2 hours were up, we wanted to do 2 more hours. So we went into to extend our time and waited there for about 20 minutes in line, not moving one inch! When we asked what was taking so long, we were told, "You are in a line and you are waiting." At that point we left. I'm not paying another $40 bucks to a place that was so rude and inconsiderate. We were all in hot ass snow clothes and crowded in a room with way too many people. The attitude was not needed. So in general A-OK. Good if you go early. Bad if it's crowded, or if the staff partied too hard the night before. All in all, it's a fun experience. read more

I seriously don't understand why Villa Olivia has so many negative reviews. My brother & I were a bit hesitant after seeing the reviews, but we decided to check it out anyways (& we're glad we did)! Note: We only tried snowboarding & tubing here as it is winter so this review does not apply to the golf resort. STAFF/SERVICE: All the staff here was quite friendly. My brother called beforehand to get an estimate on prices for lift tickets, tubing, board rentals, etc. They patiently and kindly answered all of his questions. My nephew & I took semi-private lessons with Megan. She was really patient while teaching us new snowboarders the basics. Most of the staff (restaurant/tubing area/instructors) are quite young. However, I think that if you speak to them respectfully, they will do the same. SNOWBOARDING/SKIING AREA: This is a great place to learn how to ski or snowboard if you are a beginner. Just note that there are no crazy hills for you intermediate to professional snow bunnies :) TUBING: I think it was about $20 to tube for 2 hours. It was a good time. There are two staff members on the top of the hill who asked how you want to be pushed down (forwards/backwards/spin). PRICING: Again, if you're a beginner, Villa Olivia is a great place to start. The lift/rental prices are cheaper than at Wisconsin. Plus, food was dirt cheap (just don't expect gourmet food. They had the usual burgers, pizza, fries, etc). read more

I scheduled a group ski lesson for my 7 year old. She was so excited as this is her first intro to ski. Due to the lack of snow, 2 of the three days were cancelled. To accommodate they moved the days to the weekend. We can not change the weekend due to scheduling conflicts. Not their fault ours. I asked if they could accommodate with semi private lessons at the same cost so that we could get a more flexible schedule. The semi private are double due to the equipment not being included or the lift tix. I asked to discuss with a manger. The manager refused my request to talk and the girl said there is nothing they could do. Annoyed because they did not accommodate for their lack of planning. It's winter break and they cancel on Christmas Eve. So now I can not reschedule at any other locations because they are either closed for the holiday or already booked. Poor customer service in my opinion. My options were to cancel or reschedule. Most of their ideal class times are of course booked by this time. I am so glad I rush to book on the first day of reservations to ensure the date I wanted. They lost my business for ever. read more

I knew. I mean, I really knew. I have lived in this area for 8 yrs now, have played over a hundred rounds in the area, yet had never played Villa Olivia, because I knew. But curiosity killed the cat, and frankly, this golf course nearly killed my desire to want to play golf. At best, it is gimicky, being a par 73, yet only 5500yds. At worst, it is a disgrace. The greens are THE WORST in the entire area, and it isn't even close. Feel free to check out my photos of the condition. How a superintendent can allow this to happen to a course, and maintain his job, is beyond me. No wait, I know. It's because Bartlett Park District isn't paying attention to what they are doing here. Signage to let you know where to go for the next hole is nearly non-existent. Cart "paths" are gravel with heavily eroded areas too. The safety hazards on this course are insane! I beg of you, not to fall in to the trap I did, and play this course. It is one of the worst golf courses I have ever seen. And I can assure you, I will never be back. read more

This is for the golf course. Disclaimer: it had rained the last 2 days and morning of when we played. The course was surprisingly dry for all the rain we received, however the only knock I have is that the blue tee boxes were not well maintained. The course is very hilly but plenty of room to the left and right of the fairways. The greens were in great condition and played well. The rough was very rough and hard to see the ball but overall it was challenging enough with how the holes were laid out. Water doesn't come into play too much and surprisingly I didn't end up in any of the sand traps that were in difficult condition (but have noticed the same in all other courses I've played). I would come back again but preferably in better conditions cause cart path only is rough with the up and down. read more

My daughter and sons and their spouses gave a us a 50th anniversary party in the Sapphire room. We had the room from 12 to 4 pm. It was perfect. The setup was great with the tables for dining, cake table and appetizer table. The staff was extremely flexible and set up another table for a guest who was a little late with her 5 children, lol. The food was delicious, punch was very good. It was a perfect Sunday afternoon for my husband and myself and all of our families. Bravo to my children and bravo to Villa Olivia. The employee threw the keys at my father and called him a bitch because my father didnt see that the employee was busy. I live very near Villa Olivia, so when I was choosing a venue for a baby shower it was my first choice. I made an appointment with Courtney in Banquet Sales to come in to look at rooms and dates available. Courtney was extremely friendly and professional and answered all my questions and explained the contract thoroughly. I was able to book the Saturday that I wanted in the Sapphire room. During the planning, Courtney also responded promptly to questions that came up and helped me with room setup ideas. The event went very smoothly. The room was ready when I arrived to setup decorations, centerpieces, etc. before the event and everything was exactly as I requested. The wait staff was also very friendly and helpful and checked with me often to see if we had everything we needed. The lunch was really delicious and served piping hot. The room itself is beautiful with the stone fireplace and large windows overlooking the pond and fountain. I received many compliments from the guests on both the venue and food. I am here for the sunday brunch hosted for my good friends baby shower reception -the facility itself looks very nice and the servers are very polite -sunday brunch is usually busy and i think there 3 other events going on -the servers are attentive and are very prompt when asked for anything (although i think they should have been more proactive for asking if we need anything, been sitting for 45 minutes and no one asked me for any refills and our plates are still sitting infront of us cold) -they have a nice center bar with open bar options but no tv, i know some people dont mind the no tv but i think with centralized bar you should at least have one (that did not affect my review rating) Overall the brunch was ok the reason i gave the rating 3 stars was based on how the speed and availability of the food, ive been to the food area 2 times within 30 minutes and the bacon/sausage was empty, the fruit / cereal selection, and drink area was bare and looked like a mess. Had my daytime wedding reception on 5/20/23 from 11 am-4 pm and everything was perfect. Lisa was my wedding coordinator and she made sure the set-up was perfect and it was. We received so many compliments of the venue and food. Part of the package was the wedding cake and it was beautiful. I have never attended an afternoon wedding and it was so elegant. Plus comments everything was perfect and fun. My dj, ReVrb Sound, was recommended by Villa Olivia and they were perfect. We even received a gift from Villa Olivia. My only complaint was the staff started cleaning the tables off 15 minutes before the event was over, which made my guests leaving a little early and having the dj get our last song in 15 minutes early before all the guests left. My room was the Emerald room and they even took the platform out which made the room even bigger since we had a sweetheart table. I rarely write reviews...and when I do, they are nearly always positive. My rehearsal dinner was here 12 years ago, and I attended a bridal shower here 10 years ago, and both were handled flawlessly. This place was special to me because of it, but I'm having a very different experience now. I signed both my kids up for lessons on the slopes... One for skiing and one for snowboarding. The first day went great! They had to reschedule the second and third dates due to the weather. No problem, not their fault, we made it work. My boys' lessons we're back to back, so I was present for nearly 4 hours each day. When I signed the boys up, I asked where we would be able to view them from inside. There is not a designated area for viewing during lessons, which I thought was odd, but they told me we could watch from the banquet room window. It wasn't fancy, but I don't need fancy. The first day, there were chairs set up to make a makeshift viewing area, which was great. The second day, I was told I couldn't go in there, because they were setting up for a banquet. I was really disappointed, and my son was looking for me to watch, but when I asked a manager, she was super nice and said I could just move some chairs against the window and watch. I assumed that the confusion was probably due to the fact that the lesson had been rescheduled. I was wrong. The third day was a Sunday. I was again told that I could not sit at the window. Now I was starting to get annoyed. What is the big deal about watching my kids? I'm not the only parent trying to do this. I spoke with a different manager... This one was in charge of the brunch. Neither the manager I spoke with the day before, nor the manager from when I signed the boys up, were there. I was told I could sit inside, but in a room where I couldn't see my son. Or I could stand outside, but I had not dressed to be sitting outside for an hour and a half lesson. She then said the first two managers didn't have the authority to allow me to sit by the window the first two days. Wait, what? Am I asking for something totally unreasonable here? The corner where I was the previous two days was completely empty, no one would have been inconvenienced at all by me standing quietly by the window. I was treated like I was asking for the moon and stars, when all I was looking for was a warm place to stand and watch my son during his lesson that I paid $150 for. Why was this such a big deal? Why isn't there a place already designated for this? I don't normally post angry reviews, and this is my first experience with snow lessons. Maybe nobody ever watches their kids in this sport? But I was totally shocked that I was being treated so rudely, like I was a giant inconvenience for even being there. Just the day before I had been excitedly talking about taking lessons myself. If I do, I won't be taking them here. The rest of the staff were really great, they were. But I will not pay money to attend a place where I may have to encounter this woman again. Or where the rules are different depending on what day you come in or which manager you talk to. It really does take one person to ruin a good experience. read more

I went here for skiing, and I also considered it for my wedding (though decided against it, but it seemed like a very nice place!). There's some reviews here for skiing that don't make it sound great, and of course it's not fantastic - it's in a flat part of a very flat state. Our land was not built for it. But for what it is, it's pretty good! The only downside is the rope tows, but that's just a reason to go to the bigger hill (with 4 person chair lift) sooner! It's a great place to go if you're not a very good skier, if you just want somewhere local to practice before you go elsewhere for the season, or maybe if you're taking kids who aren't ready for a larger hill yet, anyway. They often have some good deals (just yesterday I got a $20 lift ticket, and at the end of last season there was a $30 deal per person for families for lift ticket, rental, and group lesson, though I skipped the lesson part!), and Chicago's only other options are much smaller (I think Four Lakes is really the only one) - you have to go to Wisconsin or Michigan for the most part otherwise. Took my dad and my husband (soon to be dad) here for Father's Day brunch. We really enjoyed ourselves and our food. Plenty of gf options for me too. The only thing that irked me was that at every table there was a sign saying champagne included. I inquired for my family and I was told no that wasn't for today. I then heard her say to another sever 'why do people keep asking for the champagne?' Hmmm.... maybe check the signs at every table. read more
