Why do I have to pay 42.00 plus tip for a pizza that has sausage the size of small meatballs on a thin crust pizza that wasn't cooked enough but the green peppers on topped were cooked like they were dehydrated.No flavor because all you could taste was the sausage meatballs.I don't get it from one or two weeks to the next the pizza is so different.Its why I quit a few years ago.I gave it a try a couple weeks ago it was great.Guess I'll try again in a few years again and hope I get lucky. read more

Im 61 yrs old, have been enjoying the pizza since grade school. 2 months ago, the pizza was a bit off...not sure what to blame it on...cheese, sauce, sausage, dough?? A week ago i ordered again. It was awful, like biting into a dry slice. Hardly any sauce at all...cheese on dough..sausage not bad so picked at the sausgae and deep sixed the rest. Best tavern style pizza in Chicagoland. Thinny thin crust and savory sausage. I opt for canned mushrooms, green pepper and sausage. I know there are a ton of pizza places in Chicago, but take your butt to Stickney, IL and try this pizza. The dining room is basic, no frills, they've got a tv and its byob....but you're here for the pizza. Can't recommend enough. Its a must stop when I fly back in town. read more

Wow. The hype is real! Highlights - crust is crazy thin, sausage is thick and juicy, sauce is delicious, cheese is greasy. Pizza is 10/10! I live in the city and don't venture to the burbs too much. I ended up in Downers Grove and decided to try a new pizza joint for #nationalpizzaday before heading back to the city. Based on the reviews I got a family sized sausage pizza and HOLY COW it was amazing. I love a crispy thin crust and wasn't disappointed! I was a bit nervous bc with my drive and other errands I had to run I actually couldn't eat the pizza until about an hour later, so I thought the crust could get soggy. I was really impressed that it mostly was still really crispy! I'll be honest the pizza as a whole was a tad greasy for my liking, but I was very impressed that the crust held up so well. I highly recommend the sausage - it is SO incredibly thick and perfectly placed that every piece has 1-2 large sausage rolls on it. Don't be fooled by the size naming - a "family" is only 16" and it was a great size for 2 of us. Cost ~$22 which pretty standard for the area. Also don't get turned away by the initial appearance. Yes, it shares a building with an automotive shop, but they always say that the hole in the wall places are the best! Not sure when (if) I'll be in the area again but would definitely recommend if passing through or if you're close by! read more

If I could give them no stars, I would. I hadn't eaten their pizza in years, decided to give them a go again. I ordered a medium (they don't have medium, only large) pepperoni, sausage, green peppers, garlic pizza. I arrived a little earlier then the time they said to pick up so I waited in my truck parked out side the restaurant. NOT ONE PERSON WAS WEARING A MASK. not the person taking orders, not the person taking your money, not even the cooks making your food. There was a man who seemed like they was running things that had on a mask on and then off... I waiting in my car for 15 min. Honestly, it took so much from me to not call and cancel my order. I recognize the stress that restaurants are under right now. I am lucky enough to be able to afford eating out. I paid for my food. these covid regulations that they list as being followed are FALSE. I could give them a break but I see what this virus does. It's hard not to take it personal when I deal with covid almost daily. I rewarmed my pizza in a toasty 500 degrees. Friday evening, as always, Villa Nova hit the nail on the head with their great pizza! They offer it normally with a very thin crust or you can order it with double dough so that the crust is more common as with the other vendors in the area. Their sausage is noticeably larger than most giving you more to juicy meat to chew. They offer mushrooms from the can or freshly cut. This is a nice option that makes the pizza taste better than the canned mushrooms most competitors offer. Their red sauce is very tasty too. COVID-19 no fear! They require masks to go in but the only person wearing a mask was the cashier inside. Must have been 8 people behind the plexiglass not wearing a mask and talking/yelling behind there. I understand some people think this is fake, but for most of us it's real. It's definitely up there with my top five. I probably would have had them cook it extra crispy, had I not taking 5/8 of it home. Cons: pizza shape may not be consistent, but didn't bother me, crust doesn't hold up as well if you go over two toppings if one of those were a meat topping. I went there after work. Definitely tavern style. I loved my pizza. Those balls of sausage are so good. I enjoyed it. They treated me very nice there as well. I asked for it to be pie cut and well done and they hit the mark. The wings were ok. If I ever want a healthy version of buffalo wings I know where to go since they bake their wings here. I entered alone and cashier had mask but all employees on assembly line working did NOT have a mask. Was tempted to say something but paid and moved along. I think Villa Nova and their perfectly square-cut pizzas are delicious. They're super thin and super crispy with a bunch of toppings--which come to the edge of the crust--so there's barely any crust. Let me warm you though, because they're so thin and delicious, they slide down so fast that u can eat half a pizza all by yourself. This is one of my favs of Chicago. We got the pizza bites, the chicken bbq pizza and a slice of cheese pizza... they threw in an extra slice of pizza! The Giardiniera is phenomenal! The pizza was excellent and i highly recommend it! If I was just rating this place based upon the crust, I'd have to give it FIVE stars. The crust is GREAT!!!! But the really bizarre thing is that everything else was not. It's weird because they got the hardest part done perfectly but screwed up everything else. The pizza reminds me to Vito & Nick's in the crust but V & N's is much better in every single other aspect. We ordered 2 pizzas. The first one was a family sized Sausage, Mushroom and Onion done well done. It looked fantastic. The mushrooms were good. But what struck me was something strange about the sausage. Usually sausage browns-up a bit, especially if you order it well-done. This did not, at least not the same way that PORK SAUSAGE does. (Pork is customary) The other thing is that it was VERY LIGHT ON SEASONING; I mean super-light, light they were making it for a senior citizens home. The Sausage was bland, bland, bland..... The first thing that I noted about the sausage was that it seemed to lack fennel, along with also seeming to lack garlic, basil, etc... but what it did seem to be loaded with was Oregano, basically an oregano bomb with little other flavor. Oh and the most noticeably absent thing was SALT... basically NO SALT... someone was asleep in the kitchen that day. They must have been because this had to have been an anomaly, since so many other people love the place. And the sauce, same thing, bland, bland, bland...... No garlic, no salt, no basil, etc... (I'm not a smoker, never have been... so I can taste seasoning) Now if that's not bad enough, it was EXTREMELY LIGHT ON CHEESE!!!! Imagine having a pizza where the cheese pulls/stretches unctuously upon cutting, making separating pieces a challenge....well this was NOT THAT PIZZA. This pizza, when cut, had a sheet of cheese that was paper thin, amazingly thin, hardly resembling cheese on a pizza. I was very blown away by this so I figured that I would order another pizza with a different topping to see how that would come out. (But I forget to ask for extra cheese on the 2nd one, big mistake) So the 2nd one was a Pepperoni. Since we all felt that the 1st pizza was flavorless, we decided to order DOUBLE PEPPERONI on the 2nd one with the hope of getting some flavor, and we requested for it to be well done. Usually pepperoni is put ON TOP OF THE CHEESE, and it gets a nice crispiness with the flavor getting enhanced when browned. Well, THAT is not what we got. They put the pepperoni beneath the cheese and it sucked. I was flabbergasted... what a joke!!! We had 3 people in our group. We also ordered fried mushroom. They were good... but the order only had 5 little mushrooms. It was the smallest order of fried mushrooms that I've ever seen. I feel like I somehow entered some sort of alternative reality or something!?!?! Twilight Zone??? Was a prank played on me?
