They had both the ceremony and the reception there and they were able to transform the space quickly. Officiated a wedding here on a rainy gloomy day. The locations as beautiful but not rain proof, however there could have been some precautions to avoid slips and falls which did occur. We got married at Villa Del Sol in October of 2022 and it was the absolute best experience! The venue itself is so atmospheric, it is like a little oasis in the bustling downtown Fullerton area. It feels like you traveled back in time to a Spanish courtyard, and it has such a charming feel to it. Of all the venues I looked at over the year plus I tried to plan the wedding it was head and shoulders above the others, and it was SURPRISINGLY affordable!!! Another plus was getting use of the entire venue. The price was reasonable for the venue ($5250) and that included the onsite coordinator, Celina, who helped us figure out our layout and other details, as well as 2 security guards who make sure downtown Fullerton bar hoppers do not wander into your party. We also used the Bridal suite on the 3rd floor to get ready which was such a great option to have on site. I cannot imagine us getting married anywhere else, it was just so perfect, and our family and friends loved it. There is convenient free parking for all your guests across Harbor Blvd., and they even saved a couple spots in their parking lot for our older family members, such as my husband's grandparents and my parents, and of course for us as the couple. We had a little over 100 guests and we fit comfortably (with a little more room open) in the courtyard. They flipped the venue for us, (we used Hidalgos--check my other review for more details) so we were able to have our ceremony, then the guests were taken upstairs for cocktail hour (there is an elevator for guests who need one) and chill while we took our wedding photos, and the staff flipped the venue into a reception space. It is cliche but it was ACTUALLY magical, and the best day and I do not think any other venue would've made us as happy or satisfied. My husband and I used to go sit on the 2nd floor with pizza specials from Angelo and Vinci's when we first started dating back when we were going to Fullerton College (about 15 years ago) so the venue was already special to us. My husband and I got married at Villa Del Sol just before the pandemic and we have visited the venue many times since. We had just moved to OC and were looking for an affordable outdoor venue for a small winter wedding with lights overhead and this place was just perfect! The on-site coordinator was very helpful and offered us multiple contacts for the vendors we would need and ultimately we went for catering with the Fullerton Brew Company which is actually in the same building making it super convenient and the food fresh. The most compliments we got for the wedding aside from the beautiful venue was that we had the BEST wedding food they've ever had! We had plenty of heaters for the wedding guests as it was a little chilly in the evening but everything went so well. We were all about making the day elegant and easy and it was better than expected. The venue is just gorgeous with the Spanish style architecture, multiple levels of walkways and balconies, and beautiful staircases. We had plenty of options for wedding pics. Since the wedding we have referred many friends to throw parties here and have come back just to have dinner at the Fullerton Brew Co. again and revisit the big day. Villa del Sol is described on the Yelp page as an event venue. It's a regular plaza in downtown Fullerton that hosts nice restaurants and cute stores (a British food store among them). Maybe regular isn't the right word to describe this place. It's a beautiful plaza, built in Spanish style, hard to miss if you walk around downtown Fullerton. If you're in the area, pop in, it's a nice, relaxing, cool, quiet place off the beaten path. You can stroll around, admire the gorgeous building, browse some store, even enjoy lunch or have dinner here. It's a beautiful, romantic setting. I get why people use this place for nice events, weddings, it's photogenic and rich in details. Villa del Sol should make your Top 10 of things to visit while in Fullerton. read more

Poor communication. Takes weeks to get responses from any kind of staff here. Super unorganized. They never tell u the exact floor plan you need for your wedding. They expect you to get contracts signed 2 days before your big day. If you like to plan accordingly and on time, this venue is not for you. This venue fits max 130 comfortably if you plan of having more guests it's going to be super crammed. Also the shops and stores in the venue will still be open during your ceremony and reception so you get a bunch of randoms walking around looking at your wedding. read more

We just had a wedding there . Not only did that cost a grip of money, they only had maybe a few vendors to choose. Like 1 or 2. They sucked . Buffett style , not all tables were announced to get up to get their plate . They quickly served , and kept the rest and I saw their staff stuffing their faces while they had 2 full trays of chicken and steak left. Our 3 last tables never received cake . And the manager of Villa Del Sol , Antonette said we had to get all our stuff out of the bridal suite before the reception started . Very stupid. We were walking around lost trying to get all our stuff out of the bridal suite before the reception, while the quest we're watching us from below. Embarrassing and very unorganized . They promise you everything, just to get $27,000 out Of you. And you get nothing in return, Crappy service, and then treat you like garbage. And their ceremony area could've been power washed. I booked the venue for my wedding back in 2019 for April 2020. Unfortunately due to COVID I had to postpone several times. The wedding itself was able to happen in June of 2021 and it was beautiful because the venue is beautiful. The one star review is because of the site coordinator at the venue Noemi. When I booked the venue she was not working at the venue and the management company should really reconsider her as an employee or at the very least train her. Understandably because of COVID things were confusing but, that does not make any excuse for not replying to people. I was able to confirm my wedding date and guest count only 2 months before my wedding, not Noemi's problem or fault I will say. The issue was though that she was completely unprofessional and NOT HELPFUL from the beginning. I had a few incidents of her not calling when she was supposed to and taking DAYS to respond to an email. Along with her communication issues there were issues with her work and promptness. Once we were finally able to get ahold of her we had to re-do our layout for the wedding because we had to cut down the list. We went into her office (we're not local) and sat and redid the layout. She said she would send it to us the next day. She did not. When she did finally get around to sending it to us: 1. The first time she sent over something completely different than what we decided on and it did not seat all of our guests. 2. The second time she sent over something it was similar to what we had decided on but I noticed that the table sizes didn't look like they'd fit as the previous coordinator told me I wouldn't be able to do it. When we asked her about it she said yes it wouldn't work... 3. The third time we got a layout from her it looked as discussed and we asked her if it would all work and be fine , she said yes and that she verified. Once all of this was complete she sent over an invoice for the rentals and asked if i'd be able to make the payment for the rental company. I scheduled time with her to go make my payment (again not local) and when I got there to pay she told me that I could not pay with a debit card or credit card. Only check - I would think that considering people do not pay with check she would have made sure to communicate this but after thinking about my experience with her, I wasn't too shocked. it was very inconvenient to have to go back later that week with a check as she wasn't sure if i went to the bank and got a cashiers check or money order if that would be accepted.... All of these mishaps were annoying but seeing as they happened before my wedding and she's "new" I was going to let them go and not write a review. BUT my interactions with her before my wedding and her rudeness the day of my wedding prompted me to write this. The Thursday night at 9:30PM before my Saturday wedding I received a text message from her asking me to check my email. I go into my email and see she emailed me at 9:25PM. When I looked at my email she was asking if we had assigned seating because the layout she sent over would NOT fit. I was FURIOUS because I verified with her that the layout would work, I put a lot of work in on that seating assignment, I paid to have a seating assignment table board made, and it is late at night less than two days before my wedding and she's trying to communicate this all via email and text message. I was extremely upset because that was not the stress I need that night. I called her and her tone was apologetic because she had to be I told her that the layout was going to need to work as we do not have the ability to make the changes at that time . She said she would call me back but sent a text instead. She got back to me she said they would take care of it and order the correct table sizes at no cost to me. It was a bit frustrating as she isn't doing me any favors. The day of the wedding came and the two tables had guests squished together but it was day of and there's nothing I could do or say. The last lovely part of all this was that she was onsite the day of the wedding, I saw her and she didn't have the decency to say hello or anything. My husband said the same thing. And our bridal party who had never seen her asked who the girl standing around giving dirty looks was. I did not appreciate her lack or professionalism at all and would highly suggest if you are interested in using the Villa for your wedding venue that you do not work with her or double/triple check with her. read more

My wife and I got married at Villa Del Sol last November. It was amazing! I personally work in the wedding industry and there are a lot of unique great features that make the venue stand out. It has such an amazing vintage Spanish California allure. While you are right in the heart of downtown Fullerton, once you have the venue courtyard to yourself, you feel like you're in your own world. I've worked at hundreds of different venues in California, it is very rare to find a great outdoor venue where you can have music going until Midnight. That was a huge reason for selecting Villa Del Sol. You need to go through one of the restaurants at the venue for catering. We went with Fullerton Brew Co. Nick and his staff did an amazing job and our guests have still be talking about how great the food and atmosphere were. I was blessed to partake and witness my friends getting married and celebrate with their family and other friends in a reception here at Villa del Sol. I really like the venue. Imagine a courtyard in a villa. So it's outdoor seating but it definintely doesn't feel like it. Once the doors close to the streets, you wouldn't know you're in downtown Fullerton. At least I didn't. The staff was absolutely wonderful. They were attentive, patient and nice. I don't know if I would consider them friendly or unfriendly as they were there working and not to socialize. But they weren't rude or disrespectful. Free valet is offered if there's an event but there's also free parking in the lot right next door. Villa del Sol was the venue and Cafe Hidalgo catered the event. I don't know if you can bring in your own food but you wouldn't need to. The food that was served was great. From the main meal, to the desserts to the Taco Stand that came in to finish out the night - late night snacks. It was an awesome, fun event at a great venue. Can't ask for much more for a momentous ocassion like a wedding. read more

The second my husband and I saw the Villa, we immediately fell in love with it. We wanted to have a wedding reception venue that was different from your standard golf course country club reception, and this was exactly what we were looking for. It was perfect for a summer wedding, and it looked absolutely beautiful at night when the al fresco lights turned on. We had 200 guests at our wedding, and they were comfortable and never felt too crowded because there is so much space on the terrace. All of our guest tables were downstairs, and reserved the upstairs for cocktail tables and the photo booth. I highly recommend this venue! We absolutely loved it! read more

My friends had their wedding reception here. Not your typical wedding venue, but very cute, unique and random (in a good way! :) Wish I could give this 3.5 stars but there are no halfsies! This place is located in a commercial area, the outdoor reception patio area is surrounded by little shops, bars, restaurants. The patio was decorated just beautifully almost like an outdoor secret garden feel.. Reminded me of back home at Santana Row the middle outdoor area or a little bit of Palo Alto... Tables were set up all around and in the surrounding "walkways" which were also the door entry ways to some stores.. That was different. But also not my fave since some were backed up against the wall.. The desk above was nice and open, overlooking the patio reception. Service was good, but at times just felt a bit right and crowded or you had a bush/ tree in ur way. I think this would be a great venue for much smaller parties or one not catered for sitting down.. read more

After endless searching through the internet and yelp, I stuck some luck and came across the Villa del Sol through instagram. I knew right away that this was the place I wanted to get married in! It is absolutely beautiful and pictures do not do it justice, when my now husband and I first did a walk through Celina showed us around and even showed us some set up examples to truly give you a vision of what you can create. The great thing about this venue is that Celina is very attentive at responding to any questions or concerns you may have and also provides a recommended vendors list if you are in need of it (BIG HELP). When the day came, the venue came together perfectly with the help of Hidalgos, Yenny's Rentals, and of course our wedding coordinator (part of that list) plus the rest of our amazing vendors. Your family and your partner will not regret booking the Villa del Sol, for whatever event you may have. We just had our wedding here in February and it was BEAUTIFUL! Our day landed on one of the wettest days of the year. But the rain honestly made for beautiful pictures! And thank you to Shawna for taking care of everything to assure our day still ran smooth. Without me even knowing she was there first thing in the morning to try and vacuum out all the rain from the courtyard (yeah the rain was pretty bad). We had to last minute decide on the tent with the lights and as you'll see in pictures, it did not take away from the elegance of the wedding whatsoever. We had 140 guest and the rows went all the way to back comfortably (even with the tent). We had tables down the aisle ways but it was still really open to the courtyard. The bridal suite was made up for me early in the morning and made the day feel like a breeze. I am sooo beyond happy we chose this venue to really fill our Spanish wedding vibe. There's soo many places for great photos, rain or shine. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for an affordable and beautiful location!!! read more

We just had our wedding at villa del sol this weekend. It was catered by Stadium Tavern managed by Tom Dow. The food was amazing and service just as good. My guests raved at the amount of food they were given and how good it was. They even packed is some leftovers from our wedding to bring home. Now for Shawna. What an amazing woman. She made our day go on without any hitches. She is patient and professional even when myself and my fiancé had a couple of freak outs. We loved working with her and recommend both Shawna and Stadium Tavern at the Villa Del Sol for any wedding. After knowing exactly what I was looking for, and spending a couple of months searching and searching for my perfect outdoor venue, I finally came across the Villa del Sol. It was like a dream come true from the moment I walked into the courtyard, I was floored with how perfect it was. It was everything I envisioned our venue to be! I met with Shawna and she gave us a tour, and walked us through all the details of what would be included. I was so impressed with the package they offered and knew from that moment that I had found my perfect venue! I've only been here once, and it was because I was in a wedding party. Villa del Sol was the site for both, the ceremony and the reception. My friend (the bride) immediately liked this venue because it featured that slightly rustic, vintage look she was going for with antique, historic Hispanic décor. She also liked its location (her and her fiancé spent a lot of time hanging out in the Fullerton area beforehand) and the fact that she could contact some of the surrounding eateries as catering options for dinner. The villa had a quaint feel to it, but it also felt modern at the same time because it was close to downtown Fullerton. At least, it felt like we were downtown because there were so many trendy-looking shops and other restaurants up and down both ends of the street! This venue was a neat one because, even though it was close to a busy street, the interior was enclosed (you had to go through two huge doors to access the courtyard). So, even though we felt like we were in "downtown," the venue itself felt very private, since the courtyard area is completely enclosed by the parameters of the building (much like a fort). During both the ceremony and the reception, we weren't really bothered by much street noise or noise from the surrounding businesses. From a wedding party individual's standpoint, there were a lot of pros with this venue. There was a spacious room for the bridal party to get ready. It felt like a suite - there was a huge mirror and adjoining bathroom area. There was a sofa and several chairs to lounge on. We had to bring all of our own food, snacks and supplies, but it was nice to have a large area to get ready in. (I'm not sure where the groomsmen got ready, but I think they got ready off-site and then arrived later). This venue also had a parking lot (valet I think) for guests, and parking was limited. I didn't have to worry too much about finding a stall, though, since I got there so early. I liked how there were different "tiers" of the building (ground level, a second level and the top). So, while the ceremony and reception were on the ground floor, the bride and groom's first look actually took place on the second floor. The venue actually presented really great photo opportunities, including a space across the street in an alleyway that was still semi-private. Because the ceremony/reception were at the same venue, it's always interesting to see how everything is set up/broken down in the time between the ceremony and the reception. There was a cocktail hour upstairs on the second level while downstairs was set up for the dinner reception. It ended up working out perfectly - the second level was a little cramped cause everyone was up there during cocktail hour, but the heated lamps were a lifesaver (it was spring so the evening was still chilly). And, the set-up for the reception was beautiful - the table for the wedding party was actually a square and it was toward the front of the courtyard area. The rest of the tables were circular, but I liked how they were relatively spaced out across the courtyard (and there were lots of heat lamps around the courtyard). The dinner buffet (it was a DIY taco bar, enchiladas and other Mexican food) was set up at the right, and there was also a station for drinks. Everything was organized and fit really nicely in the courtyard space. This is a great venue in the Fullerton area, and it worked really nicely to have both the ceremony and reception in the same spot. Restrooms are on site, though they were a little tricky to find at first, and for a smaller wedding (this one had around 100 people), it was perfect. read more

Our wedding was in September of 2011 and I am still in awe of the beauty of Spanish courtyard that is enclosed by The Villa del Sol. The event location exhibits 3 floors, with old world architecture and allows for guests to mingle amongst each other. We used The Villa del Sol for our wedding reception and had cocktail hour on the upstairs outdoor area overlooking downtown Fullerton. We received several comments from our guests. Ruth, the event manager, promptly responded to every question we had regarding any detail for our wedding reception. This is long overdue, but back when my husband and I were checking out wedding venues many moons ago, we looked into Villa del Sol. This venue is definitely a hidden gem in the sense that not many people know about this place. However, the online pictures of the venue are VERY deceiving. I was extremely disappointed when I saw this venue in person. First of all, it's just a courtyard for a bunch of shops. Once we found this out, it was personally out for us. Nonetheless, Ruth was great about responding and trying to show us around. This place is very affordable and if you book here, you get tastings from ALL four surrounding restaurants! That's amazing for catering tastings if you're familiar w/ weddings and all that goes into planning :) You have to bring in all of your own rentals, but they work with an exclusive rental company...so I guess there's really no choice. It's unique and cool how there are multiple stories you can hang out on for different picture shots, but I just personally think it's more of a historical building than anything else, which was not really the feel that I was going for. Ruth is also QUITE a talker, so be prepared to get bombarded with more information than you probably wanted or needed! But she is a sweetheart and overall, I think she means well and seems like she could get the job done if she needed to - I think she's just a bit forward and outspoken! All in all, I've seen a lot of people throw weddings and other events here... and the pictures have always turned out nicely, but again, this venue just personally wasn't for us. read more

My husband and I recently held our ceremony and reception at Villa Del Sol on 8/3/2013. It was beautiful and everything we could have ever wanted. The location is great, downtown Fullerton is very cute and it has lots of great boutiques and restaurants nearby. Working with Ruth Davies (Director of Special Events for Villa Del Sol) was a breeze. She was always available to answer any questions, and I definitely had a lot! She even put together the 6th and final (a result of my OCD) table arrangement at 9pm the night before the wedding! We chose Cafe Hidalgo to cater the wedding. This is not your typical wedding food; it was nothing short of amazing. They even made a special vegan plate for myself and a handful of our guests. Usually when restaurants don't specialize in vegan food, you basically get rice and veggies or pasta and veggies. Not at Cafe Hidalgo, my guests and I received a vegan enchilada with a cashew cream sauce, Spanish rice and beans. It was beyond delicious. We also hired Dena David of Cafe Hidalgo as our wedding coordinator. I don't even have words special enough to describe this lady. She is sweet, friendly, organized to a T, and creative. I had a lot of DIY ceremony and reception decor items that her and her staff were able to set up for me, they even packed them up within 10 minutes at the end of the night and put them in our car for us! I didn't even give her a picture of what I was looking for; I guess just talking with me about my vision was all she needed. She was able to capture the exact look I was going for (bohemian, country-chic). She even threw little touches in there that we hadn't originally talked about that really just topped the whole decor look off. If you are thinking about hosting your wedding here, do not hesitate. The price is right, the staff and catering is top-notch, and where else can you have an outdoor wedding reception until 12am in Southern California? Stop looking; Villa Del Sol is it! read more

Shawna, the Events Coordinator for the property, has you visit during an event to allow you to actually visualize what your event could look like (unlike most places that you have to use your imagination). She is flexible, friendly, informative and a genuine blast to work with. Have a crazy idea? She'll help you see it through. Not sure how something works? She'll be there. We catered through Fullerton Brewing Co, and did their taco bar and an open bar during cocktail hour and the reception. My fiancé and I wanted to book our wedding for 2021 here. We tried to contact the venue through The Knot and got an automatic response that the contact person had changed. I emailed the listed address, no response. I went to the website and tried the email address listed at the top of the page and got an automatic response referring me back to the email address from the first automatic response. I emailed the same address AGAIN with no response. I finally called the number in the contact information from the automatic email replies and got in touch with Katherine. She told me she would hold our date for a week with no deposit, awesome! The pricing sheet did not include any catering menus or pricing and so she included me in a group email with the four catering options. NOBODY got back to me with menus or pricing. She also scheduled us for a Zoom meeting with her but never sent a link or called at the time of the meeting. I know COVID has made times difficult, but I would imagine that a venue would have more than one contact person if schedules/availability are restricted due to COVID. And I certainly know the restaurants are still open and running. We were also really disappointed with the catering options since we have had terrible experiences at Hidalgo, and Brownstone cafe, have no idea what FBC would offer other than bar food, and assume The Cellar would be expensive. Once walking into this spanish colonial courtyard it sets you back by it's beauty and simplicity. We instantly fell in love when we came across this place in looking for a spanish outdoors wedding. We met with Ruth and she gave us a tour of the building and it's history. This place is a historical landmark and is home to many office buildings, boutiques, and surrounding restaurants. Ruth was incredible to work with - she was very communicative with us which I greatly appreciated. I have seen this place rented out for not only weddings but for other events as well. It was love at first sight with the Villa del Sol venue! As soon as we walked in, we could see the possibilities for an amazing celebration there. It is truly a blank canvas with the bonus of lush vegetation and beautiful Spanish architecture. I love the option of vertical space and a venue like Villa del Sol offers dimension for your photos, and staircases, archways and little nooks to really personalize the space and wow your family and friends. Our wedding was a dream! Everything sparkled and glowed as the sun set and the candles were lit and the string lighting came on. Absolutely! Shawna was incredible to work with from the beginning and everything could not have been more perfect. We danced five hours straight. We had so much fun and the venue was perfect. In total we had 80 guests, dinner was served buffet style, we rented the dance floor, the barn tables were perfect for our style and everything was just super easy! The greenery around the venue makes it easy to decorate for your big day and you do not need a lot of flowers. When the sun goes down it is even more beautiful. The lights hung across the venue create a beautiful soft lighting for your guests. I definitely recommend this venue. read more

This beautiful venue will always have a special place in our hearts! We got married here 10/2/16 to the most perfect weather! Shawna was helpful along the way and even allowed use to make early payments so that we didn't have anything to worry about our last month! We choose to have Spanish food catering as we felt that was the right fit for the decor. Because this venue is so beautiful, we did simple baby breaths down the aisle and that was it. Everyone loved the place and when the lights twinkled at night, as you look into the crowd of love, it is so damn magical :) I literally ask my husband at least once a month if we can get married every year haha. Would highly recommend this venue if you're looking for something Spanish-inspired, with a little history, space that fit 115 perfectly in the courtyard for the reception, with classy and romantic features. read more

Great historical place to hold your wedding reception! Ruth Davies is so easy to work with from booking your date to ordering your table rentals. She is easy to communicate with and answers your texts so quickly. It eased me as a bride knowing I am in good hands. All my guests were amazed that this oasis was in the middle of downtown Fullerton. Guests even raved how they felt they were transported to Hawaii. I don't know about Hawaii but the Villa del Sol has such a great Spanish feel. I feel so comfortable and relaxed in this space and the view from the terrace overlooking the cityscape is amazing. Once those alfresco lights strung across the courtyard go on, it gives that romantic glow. This wedding venue is not your typical boring ballroom. My hubby and I had our nuptials at this beautiful-quaint venue. We got marred September 27, 2015 on a Sunday evening. Words cannot describe how gorgeous this place is. For the theme of our wedding we went with the buildings structural theme, Spanish Colonial. I changed it a little and made it Vintage Spanish. At first I found it hard to find decor items that went with the surrounding since it was so unique, but my vision became reality because that's what I do. Shawna, the sites event coordinator, is so sweet and funny. My hubby and I love her! As for the catering we went with Cafe Hildalgo. The food was amazing! Our guests and vendors loved the food. We hired Dena for wedding coordinating services and its a decision we do not regret. Dena is kind hearted, fun, and easy to work with. Her work is amazing and I did not feel nervous the day of the wedding-I trusted her. Honestly, this is one of the best venues in Orange County. When we first met Shawna and took a tour of the Villa we knew this was going to be the special place where we would get married. The Villa is gorgeous, classic, and absolutely romantic. Shawna took the time to get to know us very well especially Jose. She was so patient with us with the many questions we had. Although we do think that the Villa is pricey its definitely worth it. Our wedding day was perfect and Shawna was there to make sure that everything with the venue was perfect. Our family and friends could not stop talking about how beautiful our wedding was. We highly recommend the Villa. We chose Cafe Hidalgo as our caterer and the food was amazing! The steak chimichurri and the green enchiladas were a huge hit! Shawna, where do we begin?!?!
