Ive been to Villa Catrina for Mother's Day brunch two years in a row, also for my dad's birthday and another time we rented the back room for our grandma's birthday. The food is pretty good. The brunch has a good selection of foods, menudo, posole, an omelette station, and a taco station with freshly made tortillas. The mariachi is great and very entertaining. It's a nice touch for celebrations. I love the colorful decorations throughout the whole restaurant. There's 2 different options for the brunch. I either includes 3 mimosas, or you could choose the bottomless mimosas for only a few dollars more. It's a go-to spot to celebrate with a large group. This was my first time here and l had such a great time!!!! This place was "Sha-boppin", so l knew it was gonna be good. Staff was very courteous and our drinks were never empty, that's a huge deal for me. The Aguas frescas were AMAZING!!! Be on the lookout for the green one that has spinach cucumber and pineapple! Solid service and casual atmosphere. Family friendly restaurant serving authentic Mexican food. Came here on a Tuesday and they had a taco lady set up out front. That's what caught my attention. Three tacos for $7 now that's a deal. Handmade tortillas to seal the deal. Couldn't have been any happier. The tacos were amazing. Had to get a second plate. I love a good hole one the wall and this place did it for me! The service was great our waiter was very attentive and most importantly made a mean drink! The food was delicious! We rented one of the rooms to have my 2 year old niece's baptism reception here. Rosa was our waitress and she went above and beyond her duties. My niece had found some balloons from an empty room where there was another party. As she happily played with her balloons, an older lady came into our area and took the balloons from her and said "they belong to our party". My niece began crying. An old adult woman really snatched balloons from a baby. A few moments later, Rosa came out of with a latex glove she'd blown up into a balloon and gave it to my niece. My niece instantly began playing with it. The food was also amazing. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted amazing. The drinks were made very well too. Excellent food. Brought the family here and as surprised it was very good. We just happened to find it when we missed our exit and saw the sign so we helped it and decided to give it a try. The only reason for the missing one star is because we are in a pandemic and everyone is trying to stay safe. Our waiter had a face shield but he put it up and didn't cover his face. He also had a cloth face mask but had it under his chin. So he was completely exposed while our group of four were covered up until the food came out then we noticed that most of the staff inside (when went to bathroom) had face masks below their noses. This place is racist! My cousins husband was harassed by the security guards because he was the only black man in the party. They continually harassed him all night. This was a private event for my other cousin who was turning 50. They stopped my other cousin as well thinking she wasn't apart of the party even after they had seen her talking with everyone in the party! The food was mid and I will never be back here again. My cousin who turned 50 is known at this restaurant and has celebrated many times here with his family. So for them to target a member of our family is unacceptable. Well I would comment on their food, but we never got to try it. It wasn't that it was full. No it was that their staff was too busy taking care of two different special bookings and couldn't be bothered with the parties of two, yes there was more than one of us, that walked in to get a table that were left standing and ignored at the front with multiple tables empty and clearly visible to all of the waiting patrons. What makes this even more pathetic is that this was our first time trying this spot because we were looking for someplace new. We will never be back because of this experience. We will be sticking with the Mexican restaurants we know will treat us like a valuable customer like Margaritas and Cabrera's, who are both closer than this anti customer service pit. Great find. Walked over from our hotel. Was surprised by the wait to be seated, but once we took the first bite of the beef empanadas, I knew why people were waiting to be seated. The staff was excellent! Friendly, courteous, and exceptional service. The jalapeño and cucumber margaritas were delicious, and the Steak Ranchero was unbelievable. Horrible experience ! Don't have events here! Management failed. We recently had a private family party and the restaurant hired security. We thought "Oh great we will be safe " but unfortunately they turned out to be the most unprofessional & childish security guards. They targeted and profiled certain black guest for no reason at all! Instead of protecting our party, they chose to give us problems when we did nothing wrong ! Instead of diffusing the situation, the manager did nothing but got scared and called the police to end our party short. Recently attended a private party at this restaurant. Having a good time when a security guard decided to confront a family member for no apparent reason. The restaurant acted as if they had no authority to ask the security to stand down even though they are very familiar with the family who hosted the party. The first basket of chips we received were so oily that it left this horrible taste in my moth that I couldn't get rid of. I was afraid to try the new basket of chips I requested thereafter. It took about 10 minutes to get seated as there were 3 groups ahead of us. The buffet cost $25 which includes 3 mimosas (I only had one and I liked that it wasn't too strong in alcohol taste). The waitress was very attentive and checked up on our table several times. I tried most of the dishes and I like that the buffet servers for hot food have a cover to keep things hot and sanitary. They also have menudo and pozole. My custom omelet was also very good. The desserts I enjoyed the macarons, tres leches cake, and churros. There were also two juice drinks I tried. Oh and I had a small taste of the cafe de olla, which was very aromatic and tasty. I'm pretty sure this is the best Mexican food I've had in the san Gabriel valley! That's a big statement considering there are about 23,000 options. I grew up 15 minutes away and I don't know how I had never come here. The service was friendly and quick, but most importantly the food hit the spot 100%!! It was about 4 hours after my wife had given birth to our baby at Arcadia hospital and she was craving real authentic Mexican food. I went out to find it and glad I landed here. We will definitely be coming back soon. Looks like a cool spot to come for happy hour as there was a big bar up front and I caught a quick glance at some of my favorite tequilas. Very spacious and looks like good times are had here, too bad for me it was a little too early for drinks. Shout out to the manager Genaro, super nice guy that made sure my food was ready quickly.
