$$$ Every year for my partners birthday we like to go to steakhouses , since she loves steak. This year we decided to try Vida since we came across a few reviews on the place. The restaurant was much smaller than we anticipated however it was such a cute aesthetic. Getting a reservation was seamless, availability all around, please note if you decide to reserve you will be charged a deposit which will then be discounted from your total amount. When we got to the restaurant which was at 6 it was rather empty which we loved! Lol We first started our night with some drinks, I had the lychee martini since I'm just a girl and she had the "99 problems" which was the perfect blend of smooth & strong and not overpowering. We then had the chili Thai wings which were amazing!!! Cooked perfectly and really appreciated the fact that they brought 3 drums and 3 flats ( I love drums and she loves flats). For entrees she had the NY strip with mashed potatoes & asparagus ( she rated her plate a 9/10 , she said she would've really appreciated a little more flavor, but nonetheless the dish was amazing) I had the whole roasted Branzino(which was cooked beautifully ) with mash potatoes and asparagus ( I rate my plate a perfect 10) . For dessert we had the cinnamon caramel bread pudding and that was honestly to die for!!!! The service was immaculate, our server was such an amazing guy ( we forgot his name :/) The only thing I would change about this place is the music they were playing , the music was giving Old Navy so we requested a music change and they accommodated us immediately. The food here is pretty good but the restaurant is a little cramped. It's pretty pricey but it's good time if you're looking to turn up as the music can get pretty loud. The guacamole and tostones were my favorite part of the whole meal. The lobster tails with asparagus were pretty good but the fries were not, they kind of tasted like freezer burn. The wagyu sliders were really tasty (we love wagyu), the sweet chili wings were really good, the grilled octopus was good I liked it. Came here for New Year's Eve dinner back in Dec. & i've honestly been thinking about the branzino here SINCE. The inside is fairly small and when we we came we were told there would be a time limit for the table. No problem for us since we didn't plan on spending too much time here. We got the lobster roll and the grilled octopus to start. The octopus was cooked perfectly and well seasoned. For my entree I got the whole branzino and while i'm normally not a whole fish girlie -- THIS FISH??? Top tier. The branzino was honestly packed with SO much flavor. This was the first time that I think I finished a whole fish. Id be back for the branzino dish alone. This was a back up spot we chose. I have to say it was very pretty inside. We loved how the restaurant was dark and the mood was set. It was cute and very romantic. We had a great time. The food was delicious I had the lamb chops and they were cooked to perfection. I tried my boyfriend's steak and it had a decent amount of fat on it which I don't care for but it was still flavorful. Visited a Monday night to celebrate my birthday. Typically Monday nights are slow and although there wasn't many people present, it was still a good night for me. Had a small party and had to pay a deposit to make the reservation. I've heard you can also walk in but of course wait a while to be seated so keep that in mind. Also the deposit is applied to the final bill. Had shrimp with sourdough bread for appetizers which was good. It was mildly spicy in my option but overall very tasty. For dinner I got lobster tail which didn't come with any sides and pay additional cost for sides of your choice. Broccoli had garlic butter taste and mash potatoes was very fluffy. One of my guest however, lobster tail wasn't to their liking BUT the waiter as well as the manager addressed the concern in a timely manner. Staff and manager were very nice, I enjoyed the customer service there. It's restaurant but also gave lounge vibe, which I'm sure what people attend want for certain celebrations (aka birthday or girls night out). There was music being played and guest there seem to be enjoying the atmosphere (including me!). I was greatly surprised when they came out with a dessert towards the end for me. He stated that a hostess would be right with us, another five minutes someone finally sat us. When the waiter arrived at our table we were told at least 3 of the brunch items were not available. Brunch just started how sway! That was a turn off especially for those at my table who do not eat meat. We asked for water and was told there is none on tap only for purchase ($10). (Red Flag) and the restaurant was cold. Since we already placed a deposit for brunch we decided to stay and ride it out. For the first course we tried the filet crostini (this came out cold and the bread was not tasted), the Avocado toast with a fried egg (the egg was sunny side up not fried as described) and the stuffed French toast with banana foster (my bananas were just regular sliced, nothing like how banana foster is normally). second course we has the steak and eggs (This was simple uncomplicated but did not come with the chimi sauce as described), the chicken and waffles were ok and the lobster benny was nothing to rave about (this dish should of came with a salad or something). for dessert he only item they had were the churros. Lastly, we went to pay the bill and there was a service charge and gratuity already placed for a table of 3! how sway! w asked why he service charge they sated it was to use our card. The ambiance was nice upon entry. The hostess greeted us and walked us to our table. The table location was not the best but hey it is what it is. We sat at the first table from the kitchen so a lot of foot traffic while trying to eat. Our waiter Brian was on point but seemed like he was holding down the floor with a number of tables and also assuring that the birthday celebrations were set up and presented well to all of the Birthday tables. The drink delivery time was delayed which was not the best, but the food was good. The shrimp was very flavorful, the lobster was good but I felt that it was not cooked enough as I saw red as I cut closer into it. The salmon Rasta pasta was good but there was too much cheese on the top. I had to pull back the cheese on the top to actually enjoy the pasta. The drinks was about 18-20 dollars a drink and the food was fairly expensive. The waiters tell you the food is shareable, I would say the steak is but the sides are small if you're in a group. It wasn't a huge deal, but when you're paying for a steak, you kind of expect it to be just right. What also threw me off was that the steak didn't come with any sides. You have to order those separately, which made the meal feel incomplete. On top of that, they add a 6% fee to your bill(credit card and group fee). It's mentioned on the menu, but it still caught me by surprise. With the tip and the fee combined, I ended up paying an extra 26%, which made the bill higher than I expected. From start to finish, the service was unprofessional and the atmosphere was uncomfortable. Not only did they completely ruin our celebration, but the manager was extremely rude -- not just to us, but to another customer sitting near our table. I actually witnessed him verbally abusing a Black woman in front of the entire restaurant. It was humiliating and heartbreaking to watch. The way she was treated was unacceptable, and it ruined the entire vibe of the evening. We ended up leaving early because the energy was so negative and disrespectful. I would never recommend this place to anyone, especially if you expect kindness, professionalism, or basic respect. After about a 5 minute wait, we were seated in a booth that could comfortably sit 10. We had to call the floor manager who tried to extend the seating area by adding additional tables. We were still waiting 10 minutes extra for the additional chair to be placed for us to settle in. This might be one of the only restaurants I know that doesn't sell coffee or offer you water. The only water available is the water that you have to purchase: aquafina still or Pellegrino sparkling. I ordered the steak eggrolls appetizer with lobster Mac and cheese (I asked for bacon to be added but there was no bacon), and jerk chicken wings. The egg rolls were excellent. The lobster Mac and cheese was bland as were the jerk wings. The check came and we wanted to pay for the birthday girl and settle amongst all of us. Only at that point did they tell us that they only accept a max of three credit cards. For a group of 12?! Could they have not waived this policy or adjusted it to accept six cards?! Additionally, we received one bill that said ~$900 to include the deposit that we paid, surcharges for the credit cards used, a cake cutting fee and gratuity. We paid this off with cards and cash. They then gave us a second bill for ~$1100 and charged that amended amount on the final card. After they received the amount, they realized the second bill did not take into consideration the deposit and confirmed the first bill was the correct one. Honorable mention: - The table was set so far from the seats that we had to stay in a "sat up" position for the entire dinner. - they didn't place the cake toppers on the cake because it was "leaning" - for the experience, there were no discounts or additional accommodations. At the end of the day, the day's gotta end and the cost (and up charges) is not equivalent to the experience, which was a less than stellar birthday experience for the birthday girl. I do not recommend this restaurant until they become more customer-oriented. read more

Came across Vida Steak in Astoria on social media..After reading the reviews decided to make reservations for my girlfriend's birthday..Let me say it was a mistake..Nothing but the usual social media hype (Instagram/ Tik Tok)..I've been to Carbones, Maestro, Delfriscos, STK, Peter Lugers, Quality Italian, Ricardos and this place is by far no where even close to the quality of those restaurants..Our server Alex was courteous and friendly..Never felt rushed..The place is small..Really small..The drinks were ok and the music wasn't outrageously loud..However a $360 dinner it was not..The Filet egg roll was decent..The shrimp were definitely not even medium size..Our 5 (YES 5) asparagus stalks were tasty and had a nice crisp to them..But 5? For 2 people..Their version of spicy rigatoni was a fistful of pasta in red sauce..We had a 24 oz bone in Rib Eye..It was tasty but definitely not 24 oz and not worth the $90..Since it was my girlfriend's birthday they came out and sang happy birthday with the bottle service sign..Nice gesture..But the 3 churros that they sent were hard as hell!! The food I ordered was the t bone steak.. lobster mac and cheese and lobster roll. The lobster roll filling was great but the roll itself was terrible. Definitely not worth $17. The seating is very comfortable, well cushioned. Server was on his job, seemed like he had a lot to do. Along with waiting his tables, he was lead orchestrator of all the bday celebrations. This made him forget the drinks on 2 different occasions. Ask for flat(Acqua Panna) or sparkling(Pellegrino), but they don't tell you it's a huge 1 liter bottle you will be purchasing, not a personal size. One bottle is fine for 2 ppl, ended up taking one home. Drinks were flavorful, but forgotten up at the bar because of aforementioned circumstances. Food was good, Latin flare seasoned and tasty. My friend and I picked the perfect place to indulge in a night of drinks and food at Vida NYC. The ambiance was amazing as we walked in I immediately began to feel the romance (btw I was with my friend lol) the music was buzzing, the lights were glowing, the setup was perfect and very modern. The staff greeted and accommodated is immediately after my friend made the mistake of booking a reservation for vida verde in the city instead of vida in Astoria. I can't remember the receptionist name but she was kind to resolve the issue. Our waiter was very attentive, knew the menu effortlessly, and made sure all of our needs were met. I started off with a Branson side car and it did not disappoint at all, filled with Flavor and I can't begin to tell you how strong of a drink it was. I then followed up with a 2nd one because it was so good lol. I then asked the waiter for another recommendation, he pointed me to the Avatar that he considered one of the strongest drinks. It was perfectly blended with flavor and alcohol but it surely had me feeling tipsy. I ordered the rock shrimp and let me say it was delicious, the right crispness with a soft inside. I really wanted to shake the chefs hand to how good this appetizer tasted. For my entree I got the salmon and mashed potatoes and I'll say this salmon was fluffy, tender, thick in size, and full of deliciousness. I did not want it to finish as I ate it all. The mashed potatoes was a rich taste and texture it blended well with the salmon. I highly recommend making reservations before coming here, it's a very hip and popular restaurant and it will be growing even more, so to avoid a long wait reserve. Date night started off nice and easy as it wasn't that difficult to find parking which was nice. It's a nice intimate place that with a full bar. My server was accommodating and made some suggestions throughout our experience here. For appetizer we got the sweet & spicy Thai wings which he enjoyed. I got the spicy salmon crispy rice which tasted to much like olive oil so I switched it out for the garlic shrimp which also comes with bread it was a much better choice. For entree I got the Branzino Al forno which was good soft tender, inside it was stuffed with lemons. He got the Filet mignon 10oz steak which was good but it was small. For sides we got the roasted cream corn which was so good I highly recommend, the lobster Mac and cheese which was just ok not enough lobster at all, cream spinach that doesn't look appealing at first but it's good! Now on to the food we ordered almost the entire menu and did family style, everything we ate we enjoyed some things just needed some salt but overall nobody had any negative things to say. My faves were the lobster roll, salad, the branzino, mash and rock shrimp. I did enjoy the garlic shrimp flavor but not the shrimp itself and that Parmesan crusted chicken was chefs kiss. My friends enjoyed their lobster tails steak the salmon was so so but still edible. I have absolutely no complaints at all. As soon as you walk inside, the design and music is all definitely a vibe. Our server was very polite and we were greeted as soon as we came in. Everyone was extremely nice and accommodating. I took my girlfriend out for her 26th birthday. She loves steak so I was really hoping this one was gonna be perfect and it hit the spot completely if you're looking for a nice kind of a club feeling vibe but at the same time with some class, this is definitely a spot for you. I can't express enough how well the service was for me as they were very attentive and hardly had to wait.
