Lamb Chops, Mac & Cheese, Mash Pot

We got so lucky we were able to reserve a table 15 minutes before a time slot, which was very nice. Staff was very nice and quick to get and bring out our order. The place is nicely decorated and dim, very intimate, unless you're sitting right next to people which is fine but maybe not for a date. Everything was going so well. Had the wings and fries, really like their wings, nice crispy texture and good sauce. The lamb chops were good and paired well with the sides. The mash potatoes did taste like they had maybe a bit too much garlic? The thing that brought this visit down was the peach cobbler that we ordered, it came out and it was raw. I mean we put our spoons in and the dough was stretchy, like you could tell right away, wasn't even hot.

Considering the historic connection of this place in East Austin, I had to stop in for brunch. This restaurant isn't that big, seats about 20 but also has a small bar area. They only have street parking so depending on the day, parking can be hard. Customer service and music was great! We were a bit late to the reservation and to my surprise, they called us to ask for eta. Our waiter was very personable and great knowledge of the menu. I figured you could never go wrong with chicken & waffles but I have never had fried chicken thighs as the chicken choice for a chicken & waffle dish. The dish itself was served hot & fresh! The waffle tasted great, fluffy and buttery but the chicken on the other hand, could have used more seasoning. The chicken just tasted like fried batter. I had to ask for hot sauce to give it some sort of twang. I also ordered a blackberry mimosa. It tasted as good as it looked. Be sure to grab one!

Sometimes you can go to a place several times and then you rethink your vision of the place. This happened on Friday night. My leadership cohort was meeting at Victory East (formerly Victory Grill) for happy hour. Within the same location is a Speak Easy (Busy Signal) at the back of the building. As I was taking pictures of the mural inside, the hostess told me that everyone in that mural had played or sang at Victory East. These artists where a part of the Chitlin' Circuit, such as legendary artists like Billie Holiday, James Brown, Ike & Tina Turner, B.B. King, and Etta James. Wow! I knew Victory East had historical significance; however, I did not know the ties ran so deep and wide. According to the hostess Victory East was originally created as a safe space for African American soldiers returning from World War II where they could freely drink, dance and eat in then segregated South. After my talk with the hostess, I had a new appreciation for Victory East. Our cohort had drinks (lemon drop, margaritas, mojitos) and food (fried chicken wings, fried catfish, mac n cheese, salad and jerk chicken sliders). One the highlights of visiting Victory East is its beverages. For cocktails, their mixologists combine the perfect amount of alcohol and other ingredients. The Lemon Drop martini was superbly made. The food was all 5+/5...perfectly seasoned and cooked flawlessly. Service was at the next level. We had two servers frequently asking if we needed anything and removing dishes from our table. They both were very attentive. Victory East is a vibe. You are instantly transported to a different place and time. The restaurant / bar is dimly lit with dark walls giving a romantic ambiance. There was a DJ spinning mellow, sultry tunes...such a warm and inviting environment. Victory East would be great for group gathers, date night or friends catching up.

Tried this spot on a whim, and it did not disappoint, tried the deviled eggs for starters, didn't try a drink at this location , service was fast and our waiter was very helpful, for my meal I tried the lamb chops, Mac n cheese and collard greens, everything was flavorful and good, the sauce was amazing, overall everything was good but just a tad overpriced, but I would most definitely return to try something else. The ambience was amazing as well, cute spot for a day night or girls night out, the night I went there was a live saxophone player

Pasta was wrong, however the manager did take care of it without us even asking. Sat at the bar and the bartender was new but she still was great! Redfish was great! The music is always a great vibe and the aesthetics is always nice. Although it took a while to get our food, the staff (bartender especially) made it unnoticeable but interaction and conversations. Will return as always.

    Valentine's Day selected menu

Despite today being Valentine's Day, Victory East was very accommodating and the service was great! Our server, Mo was very attentive to all of our needs and maintained a positive disposition throughout our dinner service! The food was delicious & the ambiance was superb! All the love was felt in the air

Okay, I feel very conflicted giving this review because I really want to love this place. So I'm going to be very thorough because there are aspects that I like about this place but then things that I don't like. Firstly, I'll talk about the vibe. Cute spacious area with a restaurant that leads to a lounge and outdoor space. So many events are kept here and there's always something going on. The thing that stands out for me is the quality of the food and drinks versus the price. The food and drinks are pretty mediocre and overly priced. If you are going to NY prices in Austin, you have to have well crafted drinks and amazing food. I will say the one drink that I liked was the peach pecan old fashion. I would come back again just for the vibes.

Great food, drinks, and service. We shared the lamb chops with Mac and cheese and Brussels sprouts. The lamb had great flavor, but just a tad overcooked. I wish it was taken off the grill 2 minutes before. But it was still great. The Mac and cheese was fine, it was just regular Mac. And the Brussel sprouts were amazing. They have a little sweetness and saltiness from the bacon. My husband said the first time he went his experience was better, but I thought this was great, and I would love to come back. The drinks we got were the peach pecan old fashioned and the rum punch. They were both amazing. Great mix and high quality. Our food came out before the drinks which was weird, but everything was great and we would be back. After we finished eating we went into the back to the lounge and we really enjoyed our night there too. I'm surprised there wasn't more people.

One of the best restaurants I visited while in Austin. It was delicious from the food to the drinks and the staff were very knowledgeable of the menu. They had great recommendations. 10/10 no complaints

Honestly, my rating is a 2.5 1. I must give a shout out to the hostess who answered my call. I wanted to get a feel about seating and parking. She gave me detailed instructions. Also when we came in, even though she already had a table ready, she accommodated my (extra) request to be seated at a booth. 2. There is not a lot of park but there is free street parking behind the building and a parking garage next to the establishment. 3. I love the ambiance and the vibes!they had the game on and good music playing! 4. Our second waitress, Jasmine, really saved the day. She was as attentive as she could be and she corrected the errors made by the first waiter Foood: 1. The chicken and waffles was pretty good, i just wish it was bone in(personal preference). The sauce that came with it, was a great addition. 2. We also got the kitchen sink and that was fine 3. I think we were disappointed with a lot of things being out but I concede that it was a late brunch. 4. Also yalll, they have bottomless mimosas for $30 (2hr max) (first waiter said a carafe with multiple juices was $50) and for a premade carafe with OJ is $20. Listen they said bottomless and i said say less! My complaint: 1. I always want to support a black owned business but i have to call out the issues like i do everywhere else. 2. Our original server was not the best. He gave us a lot of misinformation about ordering a carafe, forgot to put in orders. But to some defense, it did seem like it was just him and one other servicing everyone.

Lamp chops; Mac and cheese; Brussels sprouts
    Haley F.

Surprisingly, my favorite thing I had was the Brussels sprouts. It was sweet (had maple syrup I believe) and had GOOD pieces of bacon. The lamp chops were good but I've had better. They could've been more tender. The Mac and cheese was disappointing. 0/10 would recommend. The only enjoyable part was the top layer with the crust. The cheese sauce wasn't good. My drink was very tasty! I got the WAP (stands for watermelon and peach). Tasted just like a watermelon jolly rancher. The music was awesome. Classic R&B - at the perfect volume! Loud enough that you can hear and enjoy the music but not too loud that you can't hear each other talk.

We visited on a Saturday and had a 7:00 reservation. We were seated immediately but it took about 10 mins to put our drink orders in. It took about 20 more mins for the server to come take our appetizer orders. At that point the hostess tried to take our menus and we hadn't even ordered entrees. We finished our appetizers (the wings were small but good) and drinks and waited a very long time to put in our entree orders. The hostess came over to tell us that another party was waiting on our seats and we explained that we were waiting on our checks and that she needs to check with the server. Being rushed while also being forced to wait is nuts. Food: Lamb chops 7/10 flavorful but fatty Mac n cheese 3/10 no flavor, dry Brussels sprouts 10/10 delicious Peach pecan old fashion 9/10 Hennessy Sidecar 10/10 We didn't get to check out busy signal because there was a private party.

Ambiance: Sunday brunch--Nice brunch vibe with music playing over the speakers so it's a nice brunch atmosphere. Service: It took a while for us to get our order taken and for us to receive our food. Our group size was 5 so I'm not sure if that was a factor or not, but our group size wasn't too large. Food: I ordered the Rasta Pasta and the food tasted really good. The food was seasoned well and blended perfectly. It just wasn't filling for me though because I was still hungry afterwards.

The dark and elegant decor, lighting, design, & layout made me feel as though I were in a high-end Tokyo cocktail lounge. The front room as I mentioned is an intimate bar and lounge area with artwork adorning the walls. It's a modern, minimalist, and sleek space. The artwork is ever-changing (every couple of months or so) and the cocktail menu changes right long with it. Note: artwork is available for purchase. What an absolutely glorious way of combining different mediums (liquid art vs physical art). The craft cocktails & mocktails are the epitome of works of art. I've had great cocktails and mocktails elsewhere but honestly I'd be hard pressed to find anything on this level. You're taken into an entirely different realm just watching the genius of mixologists. It's mesmerizing watching them hone their craft. The bartender claimed I was drunk and cut me off anyway. I was at the bar talking to a girl while waiting to get a drink (the wait was long because the service is very slow, despite the bar not being very busy at all). She was clearly into me, and the bartender kept jumping in trying to talk to her too (instead of doing his job making drinks). He was doing all sorts of things to try and flirt with her and make her laugh: pulling out and showing her buckets of pre mixed cocktails, running and sliding under the bar, etc. She was engaging with both of us , and right in the middle of that, I get cut off out of nowhere. No explanation other than claiming I looked drunk, which I very clearly wasn't. It felt very clear what was going on--he wanted me out of the way. I left and asked the bouncer on my way out if I seemed drunk. This was literally two minutes later. He said no, not at all, and asked me why I would even ask that. I then told him exactly what happened and asked him to let the owner or whoever was in charge know about this extremely unprofessional conduct so they can discipline the bartender. His response was that the bartender has discretion to cut anyone off, and let me know the bartender is supposedly married so he couldn't have been flirting with any of the customers. Well, sounds like his logic is flawed--not only COULD he flirt with his customers, he WAS, and was therefore cheating. I hope his wife finds out. This is perfectly representative of Austin customer service lately and not normal in other places. I was in Tampa for an entire month earlier this year and this would've been unthinkable there. Then we were finally seated in a section barely big enough for 6, we were crammed in like sardines, sweatin. We asked the parties next to us if they could push over a bit so we all could fit, luckily they were friendly and accommodating. We were greeted not too long after being seated, Our order was taken by the first server, It took about 30 minutes for drinks and food to start to come out. After 30 minutes of waiting, my server told me that everyone & their momma ordered a bunch of stuff at the same time since the food/drink special was for a short period of time, which resulted in extremely long wait times for food. The Eventbrite page didn't mention that the special was only for the 1st half of the game, which led me to believe that management pulled this not-so-bright idea out of his anus at the last minute. I waited over an hour for my food & when it finally arrived, it was not the flavor I asked for. The servers are very kind & had a great attitude despite the chaos. The food at this place is always really good. But the overall experience and timely delivery of food during their football watch party left a lot to be desired. I'm going to give this place one more try because you can't beat $1 wings (that actually are very flavorful) & $5 drinks on GameDay. However, I wouldn't go on an empty stomach. I also hope they expand their special for the whole entire game like it was the last time I went for UT/Oklahoma. ***UPDATE*** I returned for UT/Texas A&M. I paid $60 to reserve a table indoors. The service was a lot better! I really enjoyed DJ Hella Yella playing music during commercials. The overall vibe was great this time around. My initial review gave this place 2 stars, but now I'm giving it 3 stars.

Here Nor There is one of the best speakeasies in Austin, hands down…read more The drinks are always incredible--thoughtfully crafted and consistently good. The ambiance is moody and intimate, with music that makes the whole experience feel elevated. Definitely a go-to for a great night.

Last night we rounded out our evening with reservations at Here Nor There…read more If I told you the location of this speakeasy then...lol. It's been around since 2018 so most folks know where it is by now. Heads up, you no longer have to use their app to make a reservation. Simply do so through Open Table and that's when you'll get the entry code. So glad it's no longer a members-only spot as well. The basement location gives anything but a basement vibe. When you enter, you'll see the infamous black paint on white walls mural but then you're transformed into something more. An elegant and elevated high-end speakeasy that transports you to what life in speakeasy settings must have felt like in the days of olde. Who doesn't love being greeted by a tasteful, giant, fake bear with welcome cocktails? The low-lit space brings a feeling of warmth, secrecy, romance, and mystery. You absolutely get the feeling you're in a special and secret hideaway space. From the refined wallpaper to hand blown glass lighting fixtures to the lush and velvety sofa seating, you are truly immersed in the vibe. It brings a feeling of noir and romance with even sexier drinks. Being seated in one of the nooks is my favorite and just really adds to the overall experience. If you follow my reviews then you know I often refer to excellent cocktails as liquid works of art. And, in this case, it's like the most exclusive, high-end art gallery of liquid masterpieces. Cocktails with branded cubes, top tier alcohol and other ingredients from around the globe make for a worthy piece of drinkable art. It doesn't end with cocktails! The mocktails are equally as beautiful and delicious. I highly recommend the cocktails and mocktails. Service is exactly what you would expect and want it to be in this environment. Yes, the prices are a bit higher than average but you're paying for art, atmosphere, and experience that is beyond wonderful.
