these yelp reviews are awesome. if i had not read these reviews before going to the course, i surely would have given the course a 1 star, but because i was able to mentally prepare myself for the dirt fairways, it really wasn't so bad. in fact, it was A LOT better than i had expected the course condition to be. Plus the greens made up for the crap fairways. The greens were seriously in good condition. My putter was on! made quite a few long putts and i think it had something to do with the condition of the greens. TIP: Because you are hitting onto dirt fairways, these balls roll! You get the right kick and your shanked shot ends up right where you wanted it to be because of the hard kick. some of these dirt patches are like concrete. on the flipside, beware. You could see your ball roll and roll and roll some more into a bunker/bushes/crap, etc.... plus we got a deal for $20 and the pace of play was fast. weather was great! can't beat that! read more

My group had a cancellation in Orange County so we called our local course in a panic to try and get a round in. We talked to Drew at the pro shop and he took care of us. We got there and were on the course within 20 minutes. Thanks for saving our day. read more

This place needs an Upgrade ASAP! First time ever playing the course with a friend. I booked our tee time online for two, and when we got there the worker said I only paid for one player, even when I had a receipt and an e-mail confirming that I had paid for two players. The worker seemed unwilling to help me, and made me call the online service I used to try to figure out the problem. Eventually the issue got fixed. Another nightmare was that the course did not notify the online service that the course was being renovated. 14 out 18 holes were all converted to par 3s due to the renovation! Suggestion is to wait for renovations and see if the course gets better! New staff members needed! read more

The course condition isn't good but that was expected. The pace of play was just awful. The guy working the desk was awesome and did everything he could to get us out there and even let us go off that back but didn't help much. Took 3 hours to crawl through the back 9 and had to leave without playing the front. They need a marshal on the course and control tee times better. read more

Driving range: It's $6 for 30 balls and $10 for 60 balls, no drivers for loan but they have irons.

This is only my 3rd time to play here, the first time being about a year and a half ago and i must say i have definitely seen some major improvements each time. The tee boxes were much nicer and the greens looked great and rolled true. The fairways are starting to come around as well. It looks like they are now doing some major renovation on the driving range. Everyone on staff is all very friendly and professional. Either they got new owners, new management and team, or they finally started to care about the product they are putting out for the public. Whatever the reason for all the improvements its a nice course with plenty of potential. I will definitely come play here again and again especially if it keeps getting better and continues this up slope of improvement. read more

The condition of the course does not meet my expectation. Fairways are dry with tons of patches of dirt and rocks, a total 180 from the pictures from their website (don't let the pictures from their website fool you). The condition was so bad that I had to move my ball a few times so that I can hit off a patch of grass versus dirt so that I don't scratch my woods (this is in the middle of the fairway!). On top of it, it was almost $50 to play and drive with a cart (I think that's even with the EZ Links special). They definitely need to start reinvesting some money into the upgrade and maintenance of the greens. read more

Hit there for 1st time the other day, and i originally wanted to rate it a 2 Star. The reason I'm gonna give it a 3 is because of 2 reasons. 1) The Greens are so true, (... must have made 8 One putts... not short tap ins, 6 to 10 foot putts ) and are MY FAVORITE GREENS EVER. 2) met an "associate mgr. of some sort" Andrew, who was telling me about all the improvements they been doing, and the on going improvements coming... Players Beware!!! Tee times don't mean shit to these people. My threesome got a 5:45 tee time online. When we got to the #1 tee box at 5:40 there was a threesome on the tee box ready to hit. Then a twosome came and went before them. That was followed by a foursome who had a "standing time". So by scheduling the first tee time we actually were the 5th group out. This place takes under the table tee times and there was no starter to kick people off in the dark. Totally unacceptable! read more

My husband I played this course on Sunday morning. While the price is "right" for 18 holes of golf, including a cart, we both agreed we wouldn't play it again. When my husband checked in, the starter asked him if he knew that they had aerated the greens the week prior. My husband said no, but didn't think we'd mind. What the starter should have asked was "Are you aware our fairways have little to no grass, essentially rendering any shot you hit one you must hit 'from the rough'?" Now that I've read the other reviews, I can attest to the fact that they are all true. The greens, despite having just being aerated, were actually the nicest part of the course (oh, and the cart was well-kept and ran smoothly). The fairways were not really fairways, there were a lot of sand bunkers that were more gravel than sand. That said, if the fairways were maintained, it'd be a great course for us to play with its nice wide fairways. The location was convenient for the rest of our plans for the day (that involved a concert in Palos Verdes), but we'd prefer to try another course in the area should we find ourselves in the same situation. I was surprised at the lack of maintenance at this course compared to the other LA County/Muni courses in So-Cal I have played-- BIG difference between this course and say, Rancho Park, or Penmar. read more

I have given this course multiple tries and the most recent one solidified that I will never be back to this course. Yes the greens are in very good shape for a muni but the fairways are non existent. But the course conditions are not the reason for why I won't be back. Each round I have played out here has been over 5 hours, and while yes you do have to expect slower rounds at public courses you do also expect that the marshals actually care. There are multiple marshals driving around who don't do anything. When you point out that groups are multiple holes behind their responses are just to throw their hands in the air like there is nothing they can do about it. But like I said this last round made up my mind that they won't see me again. Our tee time was 9:07am, we went to check in and they said they were 20 minutes behind. Okay, that can happen I guess so we waited our turn. We did not tee off until just after 10:00am. A course should never be an hour behind on their morning tee times. When we were in the pro shop someone radioed to the front desk saying that there was a group 3 holes behind!! But do you think they moved that group forward to make sure they stayed close to on time? Nope! We had two groups in front of us just quit because the group in front of them was so many holes behind. This should never happen when your paying $50 for a round. Maybe if this course was no more than $25-30 it could be acceptable. This course is grossly mismanaged. So the whole day took 6 1/2 hours from what our original tee time was to when we finally finished. The one high note is the guy who does the cooking in the snack shop, the food is really good here. The cook should be hired to run the whole place, he seems to be the only one who knows what he is doing. read more

Big bang for the buck! It's $28 to walk on weekends. Green is inn a good shape, not many trees, but there are other feature to penalize balls outside fairways. However, there always seems to be a slow group... those who zig zag the ball across the hole... If you are one of them, don't play on weekeds or be considerate and pick up the ball to move on. Also, too many tee times seem to be 'sold.' I can get tee times for this course anywhere else but the pro shop at 5:00AM on a Saturday (for next Saturday). read more

Im writing this review because Victoria is actually growing grass. The course has improved over the last 6 months to a year. They still have some trouble spots but overall good improvements so far. Also the staff in the clubhouse has improved. Its also good to see the first tee program going strong. Keep up the good work. Thanks read more

Played Sunday afternoon. Took well over 5 1/2 hours to try to finish Lots of greens have ball mark spots, tee boxes & rough were hit or miss with lushness, sand traps were pretty good overall. Fairways were also hit and miss, a few nice holes, but some terrible holes. One spot, my friend hit a great drive to the middle of the fairway, he ended up in dirt in the middle of the fairway. Might as well as sliced it into a trap like I did. This place won't make my normal rotation. Lots of slow groups of 5 here as well. read more

This review is for the driving range only. The reason I gave it three stars is that you get to hit off of the grass. That alone is worth the 9 dollars for a large bucket of balls in my opinion. But you have to get somewhat lucky to get a good piece of turf because most of the driving range grass is all chewed up nowadays. The range balls vary from very crappy and cracked to pretty decent pro v 1's that if rather take home and use during a round than hit at the range. read more

Suprise- no driving range and dirt is everywhere- I played here a couple times a week for a couple months years ago - and it was awesome haveing a decent place to play /cheap / that's not packed with people- I came here today to try a couple clubs that I picked up at plaza golf(awesome store). The employee running lobby said maybe around Christmas to get the range back- the greens just from my view didn't look maintained very dry and lots of dirt- as I was questioning the status of this course a man came in and said he entered the cafe and a alarm went off- the cafe is close also - so bring snacks food and water - none here- the maintain economic guy cursed went being told of this issue- the man at the counter looked overwhelmed by the disgrace of the course he works with - I will play here m because there's nothing else around but moving my ball to grass will be a must- there is also no chipping area - the man said I could go to the very last putting hole in the back and chip away - but there no balls to use - I found some balls where it looks like the set up two net caged areas to hit balls into a net - which he said I could only take a couple - the balls were so old that the chalked up my wedge that I just purchased - if you play here you get what you pay for I guess - I don't understand what happened this used to be a awesome coarse to play read more

This golf course located next to the Goodyear blimp airfield in Carson is a very nice layout. Converted by the Arnold Palmer design company many years ago from a rough pig-track to a respectable links course, you can enjoy wide fairways and very good greens. They have had great difficulty maintaining the fairways as the course is built on a former landfill and methane kills most varieties of grass. Now they are planting paspalum and having some success. I love to walk and not pay a lot of money, so this place is ideal. The wind is the most challenging factor as with most links style courses. With a county card you can play for a very reasonable price and the crowds have not yet come back from the hay days of its initial redesign. read more

Played this course 7/18/14 and will never return. Yes the tee boxes are decent and the greens better than average, however, the fairways are covered with bald spots with rocks and hard packed dirt and the rough is ridiculous. My lawn is better cared for. I haven't been golfing long and have never complained about a day playing, but this will be my first. read more

Probably the worst experience I have ever had golfing. I moved to the Manhattan beach area in February and have given this course 3 chances. The management is terrible. They allow fivesomes out on the course at all times and the marshals golf regularly and act as if they own the course. It is in horrible shape for their green fees and I will not be returning. The round today was just under 6 hours and felt longer than that. It was excruciating. Please please please don't play here. EVER!!! read more

This is the worst conditioned golf course I have ever golfed at. Worst course I have every golfed at too. Horrible. How do they even get away with charging you to play there. You hit a ball in the fairway, you end up on dirt. They have these sticky scrubs everywhere that are just awful. Let me preface this, "worst conditioned fairways in history of golf courses." This course is FLAT, it has hardly any trees. The greens are ok but the fairways are pretty thin on grass.... you'll most likely hit from dirt many times in your round. The afternoon winds are strong and there is a ravine that comes into play on a couple of holes in the back. I love thinning a 3 wood 150 yards in the air and getting another 100 yards of roll, haha. Victoria is cheap, the waits aren't as long and it's a good place to practice your swing. read more

This course has a nice view of the LA River and the highway. It costs $40 when it should cost $20. The grass is crab grass and there are huge spaces of dirt in the middle of fairways. And I don't mean sand traps. Rather than spending money on buying grass to replace these spots, they are trying to grow new grass, which will never happen. There are divot fillers lying in the middle of the fairways, lawn mower guys going, and sprinklers mid day making it like a Mario kart of golf. It's built on a landfill. Terrible. read more

Played 5/4/14 after it's re-opening to a par 72. Many fairways have been improved, but there are still plenty of bad spots. Whoever was in charge of placing sod should be fired. They placed sod on holes #7 and #13 between 200-250 into the green (rewarding a bad shot), but between 150-200 into the green is still terrible. A waste of money on sod placement in MANY places. Greens were also shaggy and much slower than they used to be. Greenskeeper needs to be replaced. read more

Course is coming back. Tee boxes and greens are always good. The fairways are finally coming in nicely. When I played it was breezy, and the manure smell kinda sucked, but I guess you get used to it after a few holes bc I noticed it less and less. The only problem with the course being better is that it is now quite busier. Over 5 hours on a weekday mid morning. But still, if you haven't played it in years bc of the conditions, give it a re-try, you won't be disappointed!! read more

Used to play here all the time, little rough and no range at the time. The staff was great and worked hard to get you out keep the pace moving. Stopped by today to try and get in 9, watched a couple friends of starter go out on 10th to play 9. Asked the starter if I could get out and play 9 on the back. Nobody making the turn but he said nope too many people coming around. Sat for 30 minutes a 2 some and a 3 some in 30 minutes. Another friend of starter as I'm sitting there..."okay to tee off on 10?" Starter says yeah go ahead. Guess it's who you know here now. Skip this place go to Alondra! read more

The playing conditions are getting much better. The greens have always been very good and now the fairways are beginning to show positive results from the turf injection process. Andrew in the pro shop and Mr. Hood, the starter, are very pleasant to deal with. I play at Victoria twice a month and will play there more frequently in the future. read more

Played as the guest of a friend. First time at Victoria and last. The dead poisoned rats all over the place was a unique experience.

I played here today. Negatives- the course was in poor condition. Fairways were mostly hard mud with patches of grass. The greens were just okay. Positives- My brother and I finished 18 in 3 hours. Staff was great. $20 to play from golfnow.com so you can't beat that price but you get what you pay for. If the fairways get into better shape I will definitely be back here. read more

First the good: The greens are among the best I've played at a muni, the staff in the shop and the restaurant were great and the tee boxes were fine. The bad: If the fairways are in such terrible shape to the point that par 4's are turned into par 3's that information should be on the website so golfers can decide if they want to pay full price for less than a full course. I can understand that the course is being worked on but if I had any idea of the condition I would saved myself the hour drive and $40.00 for another course. Once things are back in order I will try again though. read more

had a good experience on the course with everyone on the green as well as the pro shop. then i went into the cafe area and because of that is why i am giving this rating. the gentlemen in there was completely rude and obnoxious, no common curiosity what so ever. i felt as though i was bothering him for a hot dog and a soda, i guess i interrupted his time, he has feet kicked up on the table watching tv. unfortunately if the cafe staff doesn't change, i will not be returning, totally ruined my experience at this course after an amazing 18 holes. just my honest opinion, if i did not interact with him, i would of given the links a 5 star. read more

Staff was very polite and professional. Drew was awsome. The course i can honestly...wow...what a difference from what it was a few years ago. What ever they are doing to the fairways with a new hybrid grass. Keep putting that stuff in! Next step is to get rid of those ground squirells that make those dirt mounds. Other than that. The fairways are coming back. I will be coming back to play this course more often now. Greens has always been pretty good here. Some bunkers need some more sand...concidering playing a round at around 3 hours and 15 minutes for public? Thats pretty uncommon. Thanks! read more

I played earlier today despite the rough reviews i had previously read and I'm out $50 because of it. The day did start with a couple of positives; the golf shop employee was welcoming and helpful and the re-done driving range is above average. The course however, is atrocious, even for a municipal. The tee boxes are well kept and the greens roll true but the fairways are so bad, it takes away from it all. Every single hole was torn apart with football field sized patches of hard pan dirt lining the fairways and don't give me the drought excuse, there are plenty other municipals in the area that still have some semblance of a fairway on each hole. All I kept thinking was $50 for this?!? $20 would be a little steep all things considered. I ended up leaving at the turn and enjoying the rest of my day. My suggestion: use it for the range but nothing more read more

I think the previous reviews speak for this. But I will reiterate what has been previously said. I recently relocated to LA for a new job placement (wasn't my choice) I have been playing different courses every week and have yet to find something within the 35-50$ range that is not horrible. Today is no exception. I booked this course on golfnow.com and came to course with an open mind. It's not the fault of the people that work here but this course is honestly unplayable. To charge $50+ for this place is absolutely criminal. California golf in general is criminal. You can't find a course in LA/OC for 40$ that has actual fairways. Where you pay 30$ in any other state for solid well kept golf courses. I will never come here and suggest it be shut down. I hate to be harsh but that money they just put into the driving range is a waste. Everyone do yourself a favor and just go play somewhere else. read more
