So my one disclaimer is that this review only pertains to one stylist at Vibe. I went back and forth on whether to write this review, but I really don't want what happened to me to happen to anyone else. Amanda was my stylist for well over a year, and I even followed her from her previous Aveda salon to Vibe. I love fashion colors and like to experiment with different colors in my hair; most recently silver. That being said, I often spend over $200 every appointment. I saw Amanda like clockwork to either touch up my color or try something new every 8 weeks. That is until a couple weeks ago. I had an appointment scheduled with Amanda for a Saturday, and a few days before that I sent her pictures of my hair. It was extremely damaged and broken, and I was panicking. During my previous appointment she had bleached my hair in order for the silver to be more vibrant. Unfortunately my hair was really over processed and it was breaking all over the place. So needless to say I was really looking forward to my appointment so she could help me nurse it back to health.
I woke up on Saturday to the attached text message that she sent me at 11:22 pm the night before.
Please note: the reference to her "more often than not" redoing my color is in actuality TWO times.
1.) When you do fashion colors you want to go more vibrant than you would want because it fades so quickly. The end color was the shade I wanted it to fade to so I asked if she could put the color on again so it would be more vibrant. I told her she didn't even have to wash it out, that I could rinse it and do my hair at home. All she needed to do was put the color on.
2.) The first time she did my silver she left an awful ring of warm blonde towards the top of my hair. I told her I didn't love it, that the warm contrast with the cool color didn't look right, to which she responded "Ya, that was an amateur mistake...".
If she did not want to continue to do my hair that is completely fine, and ultimately her right. However, for her to cancel with such short notice, especially in a text message, and to leave me with completely damaged and over processed hair, is completely unprofessional. Saturday morning I scrambled to research color specialists in the Denver area. My new stylist not only got me in for a consult that day, but got me in to fix my horrific hair that Tuesday at 6:30pm after her normal hours. Both her and her colleague were shocked that a stylist would even consider telling me that silver would be a possibility given how dark my hair is, and above that, bleach all of it the way she did. My new stylist ended up having to cut up to three inches off one side of my hair because the other side had broken off so much. She also fixed that awful warm ring of blonde that had returned, and toned my hair to a pretty ashy blonde.
So what did spending hundreds of dollars at Vibe get me? An unprofessional stylist, over processed and broken hair, and wasted loyalty. However, I will ultimately thank Amanda because now I have a truly capable, professional, dependable, and talented stylist. My only hope is that the owners at Vibe seriously consider the way this kind of behavior can and does taint their reputation. read more
