My boyfriend and I came here April of 2025 and we LOVED our experience. We were celebrating our one year anniversary and April and Larry were the highlight of our trip. We got into so many deep conversations and it was truly an enlightening experience to learn about wine with them. Perfect service all around and they really make you feel at home. We also fell in love with their Dia de Los Muertos theme, and ended up bringing home some wine glasses so we'd have souvenirs to remember our time there. We came to Via Vega Winery for their Wings and Wine class, and it was an incredible experience. The session started with learning about, launching, and catching birds of prey -- something truly unique and hands-on. Later, we came inside for the wine portion of the class, which made for a fun and memorable twist. During the tasting, the owner personally guided us through five of their wines, sharing background stories on each one. He also talked about how he got into winemaking and his journey from the corporate world to running his own winery. You could tell he's passionate about what he does -- both the wines and the experience felt genuine and down-to-earth. Overall, it was a great mix of education, fun, and excellent wines. Our visit was on July 12, 2024. Somehow I managed to convince 14 of my family and friends to dress up like Helen Roper for my 50th Birthday in Paso Robles. We had an amazing experience with Larry and April. Loved the stories about each taste, we really got a good sense of the love these two have for winemaking and sharing it with friends. Stopped in on Friday and really enjoyed this place. Larry was very funny and informative and it is well worth a stop in to try and buy the wines. The tasting fee is $5.00 and waived on purchase which we got a bottle of the Bullpen Red which is 85% Cabernet Franc, 9.5% Merlot and 5.5% Aglianico for around $20 something....can't remember but around there. Larry had too many funny stories so I just handed him my credit card....hmmm, better check it....lol. Go there and enjoy. read more

Great place and great atmosphere. The owner and his wife were very sweet. We were able to experience a little more then the basic tasting as well since the owner was working on some blends for bottling purposes. We were able to taste from the oak barrels, which I had never done before. Larry and his wife have a very sweet setup, however, due to COVID-19, everything was out doors. This vineyard is actually in front of a zoo. So just something fun you can do as a family as well! Larry loves this business and you can see that in his work. You'll be happy to know that Larry's vineyard is as organic as you can get. He doesn't spray or use chemicals bc he wants the grape in it's purest form when harvesting. Definitely recommend visiting this winery! read more

Found my way back to Paso, and had to stop by Via Vega, again. The wines are fantastic, and the tasting included some aged reserve wines. We purchased a few of our favorites, including a port style dessert wine ... that I previously said was "the best in California", but now think is better that those in Porto, Portugal. So I will declare it the best! The atmosphere is very much your friend's backyard. Fun conversations, true wine enjoyment, a little chaos, and no pretentious attitudes. The family owners, operators, and winemakers make you feel welcome. We had a special musical performance from the winemakers' daughter, who provided the perfect backdrop to wine tasting. This was such a treat! The winemaker, Larry, has extensive knowledge of the wine and his wife is such a gracious host. She really has a great feel for hospitality. The wines were delicious- we liked their zin the best. They have a super fun tasting room that is whimsical and playful with an Airstream trailer inside. What a great vineyard and tasting room! Wines are very good, but Paso is surrounded by very good (and some GREAT) wines. What sets Via Vega apart is it's laid back and welcoming atmosphere. This is a place to taste wine without stuffy atmosphere and the wine pourers repeating rote comments about "fruit forward with blackberries and lingering tobacco on the palate." Took a group of friends here on June 20th. It was our 4th and final stop of the day. They closed at 4 PM we got there at 4:06 PM. I believe the wife's name is April and the winemaker Larry. April let us in and Larry started talking. He is one of those passionate winemakers that loves talking about wine and life in general. I asked if they char the barrels to give it that smoky rich texture and flavor. he brought us over to the barrels and explained to us the process. 20 minutes later he was still talking about the process and I no longer felt like they were in a rush to close shop. It was like winning the GOLDEN ticket and going up to meet WILLY WONKA. He showed us the barrel room where the stuff is made. He even poured wine that he was about to bottle out of the barrels. I have never had a tasting experience like this before. This will probably be my favorite tasting room of all time as a result of not only great friendly people but they are making wine but the overall quality of the wine would bring me back again. I got a few bottles of an AMAZING MALBEC! I think the other one I got was called 3 amigos. I need to double check my bottles. I will bust these open on the 4th of July weekend. If you are a San Francisco GIANTS fan you should tell Larry. He's a true fan. In fact he had the game projected on the wall next to the hanging skeletons. Make this place one of your stops next Paso Robles trip. Also they never pushed their wine club on anyone. I love it when it doesn't seem like a big sales pitch. Some of these bigger corporate wineries try selling you memberships. This place is home grown family run and have amazing wines. read more

I was really excited to go into this Winery from hearing such great review from friends. Yes we were a large group of 12 as soon as we walked in by unprofessionalim by the owner himself. At first we thought he was just joking as he kept saying we have to go easy on him he's an old man ect. In reality we just walked to pick up our friends order..but got super intimidated by our group. We all left very disappointed. Who made an huge ass out of himself..but on the other end went up to Riverstar Winery and treated top notch by Eli.. This didn't have a winery feel. It was chaotic and no one provided information about the wines we were tasting. All wine we tasted were reds not a variety. The wine were 3 red wine blends, all that we tried I wouldn't have bought 1 bottle. They had no pairing fruits/cheeses, we couldn't even order any cheese plates. I would not recommend going, so many wonderful places to visit. Take a pass. read more

This was our first stop on our wine tour, and our most favorite winery. It is such a treat to be given a tour by the owner/winemaker because you feel the love and passion. Larry Gomez knows what he is talking about and by the time we left, we felt like experts too. We sampled several bottled wines, sampled wines direct from the barrels, and even experimented with mixing different varietals of wines from the barrels. We also got a first hand look at the vines themselves. We felt like we were family while we were there. His son showed us a magic trick, his daughter sang us a a song, and we even left with some life lessons. But, most importantly, we left with a lot of wine bottles because we too fell in love with the product. I can't wait to visit again. read more

On my trip to Paso Robles we took the Wine Line and stopped at several wineries and I have to say this was my favorite stop of the day because of Larry (the wine maker and owner). He was funny, told great stories about the wine and took us on a tour of the winery. He even gave us tastings right from the barrel! Also, this is the type of place you can show up in flip flops and shorts since it is so laid back and relaxed (which I like). This is not the typical experience you would expect from a winery so if you are a bit more traditional you may not understand the atmosphere. Unlike the big name places, Via Vega was a personal experience that left us talking on the bus ride back to the hotel. read more

Every time we come to paso, which is usually 6 times a year, we have to go go via Vega. Wonderful people and wonderful wine. Larry is always there to teach you about the wines. His love and passion for his craft shows up in all of his wines. April is always the gracious host. As to the 1 star reviews about this place, if you read them, they were a large group. You can't go to very many wineries out here with a group of over 6 and not make an appointment. Especially coming in 5 min before closing. Don't let those reviews sway you from going to Via Vega! The most laid back and inviting tasting room in Paso Robles. If you want something different than the corporate wine tasting experience Via Vega is worth the stop. The owners are usually there pouring the wine, providing information, answering questions, and suggesting meals for each wine. My review is because of the friendly response we received when looking for 4 wines to have a dinner and wine tasting event for friends. I sent an email inquiring about wines to fit menu, and I received a call back from the owners to help me finalize the wine list. All of the wines were excellent and paired perfectly with each item, including the Smokey Syrah to end the day around the fire pit. The best part, I wasn't pushed to the high priced reserve wines. I got the feeling that Larry would serve the same wines at his BBQ, or would happily have joined us for the evening. read more

This place is amazing!! We happened upon it by searching for wineries nearby and read all the rave reviews on Yelp. We were greeted by Sally the dachshund and Larry the owner/winemaker. Larry is super passionate about the wines he makes, and extremely informative, but in a down to earth way. All the wines we tasted were delightful, the atmosphere was fun, and family oriented, we even had the privilege of hearing a live musical performance from his daughter whom he endearingly calls "Miss Ella". This was the coolest winery that we stumbled upon. Larry, the owner & wine maker was fun to talk to. He's a San Francisco Giants fan but we forgave him because he was so nice. He worked for the big wineries in the area but eventually decided to make his own wine. My boyfriend and I were visiting Paso for the weekend from San Francisco and Via Vega was our second stop of the wine tour. Larry realized we were SF Giants fans and immediately poured us a glass of wine and took us into his workshop where he had all of the Giants opening day banners hanging up! This was an awesome/unique surprise. After the tour he put the Giants game on the projection screen and kept pouring the delicious wine. We wish we had made this winery our last stop because we could have stayed and talked with Larry and his awesome wife for hours! We had a great time wine tasting with the owner and winemaker Larry and his wife, April. They are a small production winery with the entire facility on site. Tasting is done in their barrel and case storage room. The winery and bottling line is on site and you are surrounded by vineyards. My favorites were the syrah and can franc. read more

Stopped in this week on the Wine Line trek. Larry was very welcoming and treated us as a part of his family. He explained his work experience, what types of grapes were grown on-site, and showed us the operations in the back building. During the tasting, he let us sample several wines and did a great job explaining the differences between them. You can tell he loves what he does by talking to him... and it definitely comes through when you drink his wine too.
