The Makery - A view from my seat

As someone who isn't exactly the next Martha Stewart but occasionally likes to dabble in…read morecreativity, The Makery was an absolute delight! I spent a Saturday morning there with a wonderful group of ladies, ranging in age from our 40s to 80s, and with crafting skills spanning from "I've got this" to "help me, please." The staff? Top-notch. Seriously. They were like crafting superheroes--swooping in with paint suggestions and design tips and even taking over when my creative stress levels hit their peak. And they did it all with a smile and words of encouragement. The store itself is a crafter's paradise. If you can dream it, you can probably make it here--flowers, bows, 3D words, endless embellishments. Me? I had my heart set on a Husker door hanger (because, well, priorities), and I pulled it off with the staff's help! We were there for about 2.5 hours and had a reservation for our group of six, which I'd recommend because this place was hopping. My masterpiece set me back $48.18, and I happily tossed a $5 tip in the jar--honestly, I wish I'd had more cash because the staff was that helpful. I spotted a few other projects I'd love to try... once my art anxiety settles and I start believing in my crafting abilities again. Until then, I'll admire my door hanger and look forward to my next visit to The Makery--where creativity meets encouragement, and even the most hesitant crafter (like me) can leave feeling like a DIY champion!

The drinks were excellent and creative, and the bartenders were great about making something off-menu based on what we liked. The staff were friendly and made us feel welcome. It was a fun, relaxed spot with great cocktails and a memorable vibe. We would definitely go back.

Wouldn't recommend unless you had no where else to go. Vibes & service were off. We went in on a…read moreSaturday evening, there was live music but not a band or act to where you had to pay to get in. It was DEAD, one other couple at the bar and 1-2 tables. We walked up to the bar, the bartender came over to us put his hands on the bar & just stared at us getting our purses off, putting them down, sitting down, etc. I didn't have a menu in front or close of me, so I had to ask my friend to pass me one from further down the bar, again the bartender was right in front of us, hasn't said a word, didn't hand us menus, bring water, etc. we took out our Omaha Passport Martini books and the first thing he finally says to us is "oh you have the passports", and we were like oh yes, then he flips open my menu and goes here's your options and points to the martini section. I asked for anything mocktail martini and my friend got one on the menu and didn't finish it. I can't remember the name but it was orange, like nyquill and tasted really bad. My mocktail was good, nothing special! We paid and left. Definitely wasn't welcoming & didn't feel like we needed to stay any longer or order any additional food or drinks!

I was a bridesmaid for a wedding here and it was so fun! I thought the venue was beautiful and…read moredidn't need many additional decorations. It gives off the modern barn style that is super trendy right now. They had a room for the wedding party to get ready and it was pretty small but still served its purpose. I do like the fact that both the ceremony and the reception were right across from each other so it made it super easy.

I attended an event here (Boomer Radio Sock Hop). The place is very nice. Parking lot would be…read moresuitable for most events, I think, but since there were A LOT of people at this event we weren't able to find a space in the lot. I really liked that there were two separate spaces on this floor, so there was a room where people were dancing to loud music, and another room that was quiet, spacious, and well-lit where people could eat and have conversations. I really appreciated that and it definitely added to my enjoyment of the event. The room where we ate was rather plain (still really nice). The other room was unique and beautiful, and has a patio. A downside is that there is a separate event space downstairs, and if something loud is going on down there you might hear it (and feel the floor vibrate). So that could be really problematic for some events. I also have a complaint about the bathroom. It is quite narrow and cramped. The ladies' room has 5 stalls, which honestly is not enough for a large event, especially since there are only a couple sinks and not a space for a larger mirror. Also - a HUGE peeve of mine - the doors of most of the stalls hang in a closed position, so to see if they are occupied you have to bend over to check if feet are there, in this very narrow space. It's not cool at all, and it's really annoying because the latches are designed in such a way that with a small amount of extra thought put in, they could indicate if the stall is occupied or empty. The building overall has been renovated so nicely and someone really dropped the ball on this aspect. It is a really lovely space, the event was enjoyable. I DEFINITELY appreciated not having to yell to have a conversation; this makes the venue a great place and accessible to groups that include guests who don't want to spend an entire event in a loud room.
