Post 482 established the benchmark for subsequent posts in neighboring cities by emphasizing the importance of honoring all military personnel, both past and present, as well as their families. All American Legion members and their guests are welcome. Limited hours of operation - Generally MON-SAT 1PM to 8PM (later if there's a pool game happening). There are also other scheduled events - like Tuesday Bingo, Friday night dinners, and the occasional BBQ or Veteran Motorcycle run. Big patio in the back with another pool table, a BBQ pit and horseshoes....in addition to a kitchen facility and fully stocked bar.

This clinic is horrible and I was very upset but the way their way of working with the vets. I…read moreworked there for a very short period of time as a nurse and I quit because of the way they treated the veterans. They push them through as fast as they can and don't treat them like they should be treated. I was told I spent too much time with them, I actually went to nursing school so I could work with veterans because my son and my husband are in the military and there's a lot of changes that need to happen and Veterans need to be treated with respect. I felt like they were not treated that way. Attitude is let's just get them through fast as we can and get them out of here. This clinic needs to be completely overhauled with new staff and people who care.

This home is located on the VA Greater Los Angeles (GLA) West LA campus. It has 21 suites, with private bedrooms and baths. Families share a common kitchen, laundry facilities, a dining room, and living room. I was given a tour by the Manager, Dr Erma Pickens, when I was invited as a guest speaker for their annual Breast Cancer Awareness Luncheon. Dr Pickens is proud and passionate about their mission at GLA. This Fisher House is simply amazing. They provide a inviting, warm and comfortable environment for Veterans and their families or caregivers. The suites are also ADA compliant. The staff here is friendly, compassionate and truly love what they do. This Fisher House is fur baby friendly.

Big band night in Newhall at Club 507, a.k.a. American Legion Post 507…read more People showed up in their dancing duds, ready to Lindy Hop, Charleston, Boogie Woogie, you name it...or, just relax and listen to the best music you'll find 'round these parts. This night happened to feature The Ladd McIntosh Big Band. 19 ace musicians lead by Ladd plus the stunning Nina Herzog on vocals for a few selections. I got the feeling, from the very first notes, that this band is a well-oiled jazz/big band machine, cranking out wicked cool, edgy and clever originals - plus super inventive arrangements of well-known classics. All this while the dancers work their magic. Swing, baby! The curator/hostess Wende is remarkably energetic; personally seeing to everyone's happiness while managing technical aspects of the evening - and even managing to dance a few numbers as well. There's a serviceable bar with good pours for a fair price plus a few beers on tap. You'll find a pool table and sports on the TVs there too. Our admission price ($25) included charcuterie and desserts that was a cool added touch. Epic night!
