Veterinary Emergency Group My impression, explanation & personal experience with the Veterinary Emergency Group, as a customer. I am beyond impressed with Veterinary Emergency Group a.k.a. VEG. From the first phone call I made back in early 2021 to every call or concern since. The entire staff has been superior. They've always taken the time to listen to my concerns, answered my questions and even offered to put me in touch with a Dr. (unless in the middle of an emergency) The care, professionalism and customer service that we've always experienced has been impeccable! You can tell they genuinely care for the pets they treat. Keep in mind... VEG is a VETERINARIAN EMERGENCY facility. Think of them as a ER for our fur family. They treat on a emergency basis, however we've never had to wait long. Honestly in my opinion, any wait time is worth it. Not only to get help when you need it 24/7. They offer you the ability to be seen by a medical staff with the upmost capability and impressive level of knowledge. As a team, they provide the best possible care to their patients. (The ones with fur and the ones that love them) When our vet let us down, the Veterinary Emergency Group was there for us! read more

I cannot say enough good things about VEG Denver. When my Newfoundland suddenly started crying out in pain one morning, I suspected it had something to do with his neck but I had no idea what. I tried calling his primary vet and they told me they wouldn't be able to see him until the following Tuesday (this was on a Thursday). My friend looked up nearby emergency clinics and I had no idea how well she'd chosen until I met the staff at VEG. From the moment we got there until we left, I was never separated from my dog. When he underwent x-rays, there was a window I could watch through to reassure myself that he was okay. He was loved on and coddled by people who clearly have a passion for what they are doing, and I never once doubted that he was exactly where he should be to feel better. Not only did they explain every single test result in detail, but they followed up with me regularly and the doctors remained available for me to call with questions 24/7. When a similar incident occurred a month later, I called his primary vet once again and NEVER received a call back. This time my dog didn't have to spend an extra second in pain because I called VEG immediately after. Not only did they remember my dog, but they expressed genuine concern over the phone and encouraged me to bring him right in. The energy in this clinic is healing. It makes a huge difference when the people who are working somewhere genuinely care about the patients that they treat. If I could put up a billboard telling everyone to go here, I would. They've given me peace of mind and helped me when I was absolutely hysterical and terrified that my dog wouldn't be okay. I can honestly say I'll never go anywhere else. read more

Outstanding service, we were helped in a timely manner and were informed of the issue our dog had. Doctor Israel was a major help he provided support when we were worried about our pet and even went out of his way to trim our dogs nails, after noticing they were long. read more

They sent us home with our dog laying his head on the ground, circling, fever, eye twitches and obviously our pup was in distress. I even asked is he ok, when he laid his head down like this? He wasn't! He died the next day at Wheat Ridge Vet who said it was too late. VEG should have kept him there or sent us to Wheat ridge immediately instead of taking $600 and us losing him! I really think he needed intravenous support with antibiotics last night too and I'm devastated that he's gone too soon. read more

Steer clear of this place if you love your pets. They obviously deleted my previous post. They recommended putting down my new puppy without good reason. They made me think that not putting him down would make him suffer, which, after a lot of research, I realize was untrue, and the vet on staff was unqualified. I would be very very careful with these people. I'm not sure they really care about pets, and they only care about profit. read more

We had a GREAT experience at VEG. The staff was friendly, patient with our barking pup when we had to leave him there, and extremely informative! They explained everything to us in great detail and helped us feel a lot less stressed about our situation (our dog got bit pretty badly in the leg by another dog). The two follow up visits went smooth. Each visit we felt welcomed as if it were our regular vet that we go to. I would definitely recommend this group to others who are in need of an emergency vet! read more

Absolutely great experience here. Every member of staff is incredible... kind, thoughtful, gentle, accommodating to both me and my pet. My dog was one of the less emergent cases, but I did not mind waiting at all. It was so obvious these people are trained, capable, and passionate for what they do. Truly the definition of superheroes to come in and help save these animals every day. They followed up with me after the appointment, and the doctor personally gave me her contact info for questions. I cannot recommend this place enough if you find yourself in the worst kind of bind. My only complaint is the price... it is quite expensive, but that's to be expected in these situations and I was prepared to spend a high dollar on my animal's care. read more

Veterinary Emergency Group - My girl getting X-rays. So incredibly amazed at how gentle and caring this team was. - Emergency Pet Hospital Near Me - Denver, Colorado

I took my cat in for a same day appointment and I waited an hour until they even gave me a price quote. They wanted to do bloodwork, a urine test, and x ray, (all just to see what's was wrong) for $1,200!! That's before any treatment, they also had a bunch of extra charges on the list, including $185 just to be seen! I decided to wait since my regular vet could see me the next day, and we did the first two tests (bloodwork and urine) and got her on medication, for a total of $500. I have nothing bad to say about VEG but do wish I had done more research ahead of time to know their prices were extreme (apparently they have a reputation of this) and I hope that you will find this review helpful when considering them. read more

It's been almost 2 weeks since my visit and I'm still talking about the impressive and compassionate care my dog received when we were visiting Denver. From the moment we arrived, the staff at the East Colfax location were calm and friendly but also had a sense of urgency expected from an emergency vet. The facility is spotless and modern. My dog was seen by Dr. Voss and her team of several capable and kind assistants. They constantly checked-in while I waited for results, and answered all of my questions with patience and reassurance. After a thorough exam and diagnosis, I left with clear instructions for my dog's recovery, prescriptions and a wish that this same type of care could be found in my city. read more

My cat Frodo was attacked by a friend's pitbull when he visited our home. I was in such a panic I didn't call ahead, just ran through the front door. We were immediately rushed into a room and Frodo's injuries and vitals were checked right away. When they determined she was stable, we all let out a huge breath of relief and settled down to wait for the vet. Every person we interacted with was so kind and concerned for both me and my baby. We got an ultrasound to check for internal bleeding, which plus the medication made for a bit of a pricey visit, but I felt it was worth it for the peace of mind. Everybody that saw Frodo gave her VIP treatment, which helped make a very scary experience much more manageable. read more

I brought my dog here for rehydration when she wouldn't eat following a dental procedure which involved multiple extractions. Based on weight changes in my dog and my careful description of my dog's lack of eating and drinking and the time involved, VEG should have been able to safely rehydrate my dog in 48 hours. Instead, they underestimated my dog's fluid needs, and we left 72 hours later with my dog still dehydrated, still not eating, with poor kidney function, and me $6600 poorer. I will not bring my dog back here. read more

I've been to the facility on Colfax and Hampden and both times it has been a great experience (well...as great as can be expected when you have your dog at an emergency vet ). Their model is different from other vets in that they let you stay with your pup rather than taking them away from you into a back office room somewhere while you wait in an exam room. Most recently, my dog was very anxious and they let me stay with him as long as I wanted/he needed. They really do provide an outstanding practice. read more

My son's American Bulldog suddenly became ill. He rushed him to VEG on E.Colfax in Denver, CO, early on a Sunday morning. The dog, Jigsaw, was diagnosed with a ruptured tumor on his spleen, which had not been diagnosed previously. This was a serious and emergency situation. Jiggs was bleeding internally, and was totally unwell. Dr. Molly Comisky presented my son, and eventually me, with a comprehensive overview and objective options. My son chose surgery, despite the odds, and I was in agreement with him. Not only was the surgery a supreme success, but we were treated so well throughout this stressful day by the entire staff. Jigg's outcome was the best. Recovered. Healed. Happy. And, the best ... CANCER FREE. I would only go to this group for an emergency. Dr. Comisky is the best. read more

I want to say thank you so much to the wonderful people who helped my kitty Leela and me at 4:45 this AM. I had never brought my cat to an emergency vet before so I was really scared & confused about her symptoms. From the phone call on the way, to the first steps when I arrived & through treatment options and discharge, the staff was extremely helpful and calming for me and my cat, I'm just really grateful for them. I wasn't able to afford every precautionary test that I would've wanted, but they were still understanding and worked with me to make sure my cat was safe, and it was clear that my financial restrictions weren't shamed, rather they worked with me to make a plan. Leela seems to be feeling much more comfortable and more like herself. I have to say that I don't have anything negative to say about any vet we have visited in the past. I have seven dogs, and I have never had a complaint--until now. Unfortunately, Alayna and the other staff members at this clinic were highly unprofessional with me. They did not leave my dog in a better condition than when I brought her in. The service they provided was incomplete, and I felt like they kept us waiting until we paid. I have never paid for a service before it was completed, and it was incredibly disheartening to be kept waiting while my dog was in pain, especially during an emergency. Not one of the doctors were empathetic towards my dog who was neglected at the vet clinic. read more

Pretzel did not feel well yesterday. He had a bump on his jaw and we were lost, not sure how to help him. This place was recommended to us by one of the vets that could not take him because we needed to make an appointment. This place is amazing. I never expected to see what I saw. A lot of doctors and nurses are working extremely hard on each pet in care and you can actually see it. I was given options and I decided to see if he gets bit better (he did) and I came back second day to evaluate on his progress and get fluids. Stuff was amazing. I was honored to see their hard work in action today. Unfortunately the dog I saw could not make it and died on the table. But I saw stuff trying to save it and not giving up and comforting the owner and providing cpr for a long period of time. I saw how heartbroken everyone was. How hard they worked to save the pup. It was beautiful sad experience and made me appreciate this place even more. Thank you all. PS Pretzel is doing so much better today. read more

Veterinary Emergency Group - Amazing place. - Emergency Pet Hospital Near Me - Denver, Colorado

I brought my beloved Odessa in this past holiday weekend and they were incredibly busy. I appreciate how kind and patient everyone was despite a clearly hectic house. Odessa was taken back for vitals right away and she was stableish so we went back to the waiting area. I know that EDs take people based on acuity and the animal ED is no exception. I was offered water, drinks, and snacks frequently. I weeped off and on as I sat there and someone brought me tissues and reassured me that Odessa would be seen soon. Odessa had a mass that had developed very quickly in February. She was elderly and cars/vets/kenneling stress her so much that we made the decision to just watch and wait & basically leave the mass alone. Cancer? Lipoma? It wouldn't change the fact that we didn't want to put her through surgery or stress really at all. She was arthritic and just loved a good blanket & snuggles. We hoped this last time of her life would be peaceful and happy until we could help her transition when she needed it The mass had seemed to stop growing and she was living her everyday life in the way she always did. Seemingly without pain or much bother. I couldn't fathom that this mass would suddenly lose blood supply and literally rupture through her skin and rot her from within. It quickly evolved and was getting worse almost by the minute. That's not how I thought this would end. The vet was so compassionate but also didn't mince words or waste my time & money on useless tests or treatments. My weeping in the waiting room was my denial slipping away, and I think I knew there wasn't anything that could realistically be done for her beyond letting her go peacefully. This was also the veterinarians immediate assessment of her situation. I didn't get to see her off at home like I had hoped we would someday, but she couldn't wait for an at home euthanasia team. Things just went too far too fast. Though they were busy and crowded they set up a quiet room, with low lights and a cozy blanket for her. They gave us all the time we wanted with her, let my girls come in to be with her too. They didn't rush us. They were so gentle and compassionate with her and us. I felt so bad that the mass evolved so horrifically. I thought we'd slowly see her fade away over the next year or so and that we would know when the time was right to bring in euthanasia to our home. I was so wrong and my denial so deep, she wasn't a complainer at all and seemed overall well until this burst. I just didn't want her to suffer anymore, I didn't want her to suffer at all. Everyone at VEG was so understanding, kind, and caring in this horrible moment for us. The price was fair and we'll get Odessa back in a week or so in a beautiful box that was included in the price. We were able to make these decisions there with the help of staff. Even more touching was the beautiful card we got today. Not just a generic, "sorry for your loss"... So many of the staff took the time to sign a card for a patient they only had for an hour. Thank you for helping her in her last moments. Thank you for the kindness and love you showed us during a crazy busy night for all of you. It helps this pain just a little bit knowing she was so tenderly cared for by you all in those final moments. Thank you to our vet who stayed by her side as we left that night, not leaving her alone in that room when we walked out of it. That was so kind and meaningful. Here's my majestic Odessa just this year in healthier times. She was so loved! read more

my experience here is not what i expected when i brought my cat here. firstly, the space is open, so the exam tables are all near each other and it's very loud with lots of dogs barking and whining. second, it took SO long to get his tests complete - you get a "treatment plan" at the beginning which is basically the bill. my cat got his vitals taken, i paid the estimated amount which felt weird to me before he was even really seen, and then we waited in a room for 2+ hours. the wait made me realize that i should have taken him somewhere else, considering i paid $1500+ upfront and had to wait this long for anything to be started with him. after finally being called to start the needed tests, they realized my cat was too feisty and decided he needed a sedation (added $$).. so we waited for that. something i really didn't like was when they went to give him his shot, they put a towel over his head - and he freaked out more than I've ever seen. he's been to the vet (cat specific one) to get shots before and never had an issue, literally he hadn't even hissed at a human in his life before coming to VEG. throwing a towel over an animals head would clearly freak them out. i kept hearing from the techs how feisty he was, how he hates being held (he loves being held... just not at a vet) and other negative commentary about his behavior. i get they were probably trying to lighten the mood and it can't be fun working with an angry cat, but it made me anxious and definitely didn't make me build trust with them. he deserved empathy and had been there all day being handled and poked and hadn't eaten since early in the morning, so of course he'd be upset. i don't really see this location as a "cat friendly" space. it was helpful to get in quickly, but i regret not going to an Urgent care that specialized in cats. for $1600+ i am not happy with my experience at this VEG location. i put 2 stars bc i know that vet emergencies are demanding and i do appreciate knowing my cat is ok. i hope this feedback can help other cat parents have a better experience here. read more

Dr. Gabriel DeFrancisco should be FIRED. I have been rescuing senior dogs for decades now.. My boy Rocky became very sick very fast. I found this place and was amazed at the level of care I initially experienced there. He was kept for 2 nights there. I was called this morning to come and pick up my Rescue Weimaraner Rocky this morning, they said he was ready to come home. I was total SHOCKED to see when I got there Rocky couldn't move or was even aware I was there. This was not my Sweet Loving Rocky. He was CLEARLY dying. Long story short, I opted to humanely euthanize him. Dr. DeFrancisco kept pushing me to do more for him. Transport him to a specialty hospital... Take a picture of his heart... give him 1 huge amount of an antibiotic. It was to the point that I had to raise my voice and ask her not to MAKE ME BEG HER to have him put to sleep.. "I know my dog" I said. She just kept on and on until I said I've given you $5000.00 already, if you want to treat him for FREE of CHARGE....GO AHEAD.... She came back with a different attitude... I seriously cannot believe we were sitting there arguing in front of the whole staff and people with their dogs being treated and me having to say at least 12 times that this was not his best life and I wanted to have him put to sleep.... 12 Times People Whatever you do...DO NOT let Dr. Gabriel DeFrancisco treat your pet. read more

I cannot say enough good things about VEG. I brought my 6.5 year old Doberman in on Easter Sunday because he was vomiting and wasn't eating. He was starting to get extremely lethargic, and just wasn't doing well. When I brought him in, we were taken back immediately and allowed to stay with him the entire time. Capone ended up having a blockage from swallowing a washcloth, and he needed emergency surgery to fix it. They were so kind and empathetic and they not only allowed me to watch the surgery, but they allowed me to stay with my dog the entire two days he was there in their care. They set me up in a private little room with a futon, and after he had come out of anesthesia completely and was less critical, Capone got to stay with me in our private little room. They took amazing care of both of us there, and truly had our best interests in mind with every single interaction. They allowed me to walk him every 2 hours, and he slept with me on the futon they set up for me. Once he was released, they continued to follow up via phone and email to make sure Capone was healing well and on the right track toward healing. I cannot recommend them enough for what they did to save my puppy. read more

Brought our pup in with an eye issue. They quickly put us in a room to in case it was an infection so that it would not spread to others. The doctors were super knowledgeable - and asked each other for second opinions. They gave us options and we ended up putting him under to remove the foreign object. They let us be with him and watch. My favorite moment was during the chaos they helped us with our other pup who was along for the ride and happened to step in gum in the parking lot. The tech got a trimmer and cut the gum out from her paw. They did a great job treating the animal along with the humans and situation. Great full we chose them and will return for future emergencies. read more

I took my dog Taz in after waking up this morning and seeing him feeling very unwell. We were extremely nervous and anxious to get him into a Vet ER. Taz was seen by Dr. Liz Lawrence, who made sure to show us exactly what she was doing and why. Taz does NOT usually tolerate the vet, and feels very anxious going in. Today, this was not the case. From the veterinary staff --who made sure to safely hold Taz down for examination-- to Dr. Lawrence, we thank you from the bottom of our heart. Although we are unsure where this leaves Taz (we are following up with a private clinic vet), we received so much comfort and compassion during a scary time. Also, to previous reviews that claim they were pushed for further testing: this was not our experience AT ALL today. Dr. Lawrence had recommended certain tests and procedures --but made sure to explain the reasoning behind, any alternative options available to us, and did not push further when we opted to pursue diagnostic testing at a private clinic. She even went as far as to show us pricing before we made a decision, and made sure we had a vet to follow up with. Thank you again Dr. Lawrence and the entire vet staff. I took my cat in for shortness of breath and they put her in their oxygen box. They did an ultrasound of her heart and said it looked enlarged and that more tests were needed to determine what was going on. After checking her blood oxygen levels, they were under 80% so they gave me an estimate for testing they suggested saying it seemed like something was wrong with her lungs. Meanwhile, I had taken my cat in about 3 weeks prior for difficulty walking. They did xrays then and said she had degenerative disc disease in her spine. I mentioned that our regular vet noticed a spot on her lung about a year prior and they called to tell me that her lungs looked "great" and there was no such spot on them. So now, 3 weeks later I agree to the X-ray of her lungs and they inform me she has what appears to be "fibrous fluid" in her lungs that is likely cancer. Dr. McCorkle pressures me into euthanasia without confirmation of what the actual problem with my cats lungs was. She flat out told me I could not take my cat unless I had someone scheduled to come to house to euthanize her. I'm not saying she wasn't sick. But I am saying I find it odd that within 3 weeks my cat went from "great" lungs to cancer so horrible that she had to be killed. I think they should have suggested some sort of diagnostic bloodwork before forcing me to put my cat to sleep. Which is exactly what Dr. McCorkle did. She refused to let me have my cat back. read more

They deleted my review so: Unfortunately Yelp doesn't let me give 0 stars. I took my dog there because he was going into DKA (Diabetic Ketoacidosis) throwing up, lethargic, all the things. The entire time I was there, they were trying to focus on other things I didn't bring him in for (a benign cyst on his stomach) as I have a very good relationship with my primary vet, I wasn't going to focus on those as my dog was slowly dying before my eyes because his blood glucose was so high. I left with antibiotics and an anti-nausea medication and advised against giving my Diabetic (key word) dog his insulin. I kept calling asking about giving him his insulin and their main concern was a paycheck because they asked for him to be seen about his glucose levels (something I took everyday multiple times a day) but refused to take results from a device manufactured by the same company but didn't care about one was in my hands and but in theirs. A couple days later my sweet boy died from DKA and I watched him take his last breath on my living room floor. I watched him suffer in pain over something preventable. How do I know it was DKA that killed him? I conversed with my primary vet. We tried fast acting insulin - the appropriate form of treatment for DKA but it was too late for my sweet boy. I will never forgive or trust their judgement EVER again. I am very sad to say they will never again see one of my beloved pets because their veterinary negligence bought me my best friend in an area I lack expertise. I'm reposting this 6 months later and will keep posting this review to save someone else from the profound grief I deal with everyday. I hope to save someone else from the loss of their best friend, a life needlessly STOLEN. read more
