The food is ok and they are fast. The service is good. The reason I think it's 3.5 stars is: (1) the home fries were not crispy enough (cooked but not crispy) (2) The white of the Eggs Benedict were too soft (not cooked enough). They did offer to remake the food but I said no. My wife thought the biscuits and gravy was pretty good. I tried hers and I thought it was was pretty close to a classic biscuits and gravy. Went here for breakfast after unsuccessfully trying to go to three other places. Thank god everything else was busy because this gem was delicious! We got the speciality French toast, egg sandwich, and the fajita omelet. Everything was delicious. Service was fast and helpful. Never had an empty cup of coffee. Really delicious. This is a real Diner, with great food, 2 of us stopped in for breakfast and were greeted like we had been there a hundred times ( it was our first visit) . Clean bright and inviting is my best description. Waitress was at our table in no time offering coffee or water, I got hot tea, my daughter asked for water, we were given menus and told the specials. We ordered, I got eggs (sunny & runny) , sour dough toast, crisp bacon and home fries, my daughter got a Belgian waffle with strawberries. It was at the table in just a few minutes, it was awesome, there were several other tables eating and others ordering, impressive. Our food was perfect, fresh strawberries covered the waffle, but it was wonderfully plated. My eggs were perfect, bacon and toast were on point as well, the potatoes were flavorful with nice crispy stuff that makes it great. An excellent choice, we will be back! read more

We had breakfast there Sunday morning. I ordered a breakfast sandwich with sausage and egg, I literally took two bites and sent it back, as it tasted terrible, possibly spoiled sausage. The other meal had undercooked eggs and overcooked toast. After getting the bill, they still charged for the sandwich that was sent back, the owner said to charge for it and refused to come out to see me. Finally as I was outside trying to call him, he came around from the back and was yelling at us to not come back. He also said it to another customer getting into her car. In my 57 years, I've never been treated like this by a business owner. Completely unacceptable!!! read more

My wife and I stopped in for lunch today, it wasn't very busy. A group sat down before us and were greeted like they were regulars while we received a side eye look and No hello or we will be with you soon. Another couple entered and sat , they were brought menus and water while we still were ignored, not even a hello. This is my favorite Diner in Vestal! The food is delicious- the service is very good! I order something different every time I go- the gyro is delicious and I only had to wait 3 minutes for my food! The fish is AMAZING- my complements to the chef! Every time I stop in I feel like I'm home with family!!!!! The atmosphere here is delightful. I've been here 4 or 5 times now for breakfast and every time I get the same thing, and every time it's pretty darn good! The menu is pretty standard, but they do the standards well. Actually, I feel like they do it better than the other diners in Vestal. It's been a while since I had Take A Break, and while I always thought Pete's was good I thought it was overrated. Skylark is classic but their home fries are weak, and that's my favorite thing about Vestal Diner, their home fries are great! I've had better bacon, but theirs is still good, as are their eggs and toast. Their pancakes are consistently delicious too, fluffy with a good flavor! I see that other people on here complain about their coffee but I haven't had any issues with it, I just use cream and sugar to get it to my liking I think I remember there being one time when I was unimpressed with the service, but that was over a year ago, all my recent visits have been fine. The place itself could stand to look a little better, but it's cozy and doesn't get crowded like the Petes and Skylark, so I feel more comfortable coming here. I haven't tried any of their lunch or dinner food, but this is definitely a solid spot to start the day with a good meal read more

This place is meh. Waitress was not exactly friendly, nor did she seem too thrilled about having to serve us. She forgot the gravy, brought out our appetizer 20min after our meal came out, and did not bring me a water-I had to ask for one twice. I ordered cheese on my chicken sandwich, both mozzarella and cheddar-it came out with swiss on it. The coffee was terrible, the chicken on my sandwich was extremely over-cooked, my friends burger was as hard/dry as a hockey puck, and the silverware was dirty. Although the prices are cheap, the food, wait, and staff do not make this place worth visiting again. I was quite disappointed, as I generally love diners/"mom & pop" joints. read more

My lady and myself went there 2 Sundays ago. The place was packed. The waitress brought us coffee, my mug had dried droplets of coffee on it and her spoon was dirty. When the food finally arrives, the waitress did not provide silverware. It took a whopping 10 minutes and over 3 reminders for her to bring us utensils. When She finally returned, she just placed the silverware on a napkin, unarranged. She also forgot my double order of bacon. The couple sitting next to us also had to wait for their utensils and say there watching the steam on their hot food slowly dissipate. They also asked over 3 times. Not to mention the flies were very annoying. The couple also had a similar problem with them. We've eaten there about 5 times and though we never had this problem, if it continues, we will not be returning. I gave out 2 starts because we like the joint, so get your stuff together read more

Not bad for a place so cheap! I originally planned to go to Skylark but for some reason it was closed for a few days. This place is just right across the street so I just ended up there. The GPS location was way off when I tried to check in. It said it was somewhere near Cortland even though the address was correct. The food was pretty average for a diner. Hit the spot but nothing to really write home about. I got the 3 eggs, sausage, and canadian bacon, but came out missing one sausage(it came in 2's) and 1 egg. Our server noticed the sausage missing because she said she'd bring out another one before even giving it to me. Also only got 2 eggs, instead of 3 but was brought out another one pretty quickly. Everything was ok except for the bread. They were very thin and I'm not sure it was even the kind I asked for. But all in all I give it 3 stars. The bill was like $20 for 3 meals and it didn't taste like it was swimming in grease and oil. nom nom nom read more

A cozy "mom and pop" diner serving comfort food in a pleasant and clean atmosphere. The food quality is good, especially for the price. They are popular for weekend breakfast, but there's rarely a wait unless you have a big party (6 or more). My parents always ask to go here when they come in from out-of-state! read more

While visiting family in the area, we heard from several locals that this place was very popular. Having never tried it, we went for a late Sunday breakfast. There was a small wait but we were assured by some other patrons that the food was "worth waiting for." We shouldn't have bothered. The dining area was noisy and the service was slow, indifferent, and seemed totally disorganized. Maybe there was a staffing issue, but there appeared to be plenty of staff given the number of patrons. The menu has a large variety of dishes for any time of the day: typical diner fare. As we were there for breakfast, our party tried the Mediterranean omelet, Eggs Benedict, and 2 eggs with hash. The food was hit and miss. The omelet was edible but surprisingly tasteless given the volume of red peppers and feta cheese in the preparation. The side of potatoes was completely unseasoned. The hash with eggs was excellent with good flavor. The Eggs Benedict was truly dreadful: 2 small overcooked poached eggs on tiny muffins over a miniscule piece of canadian bacon and a sauce that definitely wasn't Hollandaise. This dish was surprisingly awful given how it is promoted as a special. And don't bother with the coffee. On a positive note, the prices are reasonable, but that alone can't make up for the mediocre experience. There are better establishments for breakfast in Vestal providing the same type of food at reasonable prices, so there's no need to stop here. read more

We love the Vestal diner. It's always delicious. Best hot turkey sandwich and soups every! Anywhere that has hot turkey I get it and this is by far the best one. The only complaint is I wish the portion was bigger, but for the price it's amazing. And I really really wish lunch was served earlier or all day. 11:00 is just a little late. read more

Have been visiting the Vestal Diner now for two and a half years since my review in 2015, and the place only gets better! Still serving homemade fare at very reasonable prices with super friendly service. We try to steer visitors from out of town here and they are always impressed too. I had my heart set on a turkey dinner with the fixings. The portion was the smallest I've ever been served. The menu said it came with cranberry sauce there was none. That's one of the fixings I expect with a turkey dinner. I was not given silver ware, nor was I given a bread plate. The dishwasher gave me silverware. I was asked if I wanted a refill on the coffee. I had said "yes." She never provided it. The meal came with potatoes and salad or soup but no veggie. Not the friendliest place other than the dishwasher. I won't be back. Too bad. It's close by and my wife and I like diner-fare. read more
